The bladed jig rod has the biggest difference in opinion among pros than any other rod I know of. Some very good bladed jig pros like a heavy power, moderate action composite rod. Some even Extra Heavy, moderate, composite. I like a MH, MF 7’ to 7’6”
Last month I was throwing a thunder cricket around mats. I was casting on the mat and pulling it off the edge. They would hit it and throw slack in my line. Caught all but 1 and it was a 5lber! Wish I had that rod with me! Great rods!
Great video and I have fished a bladed jig the same way( kinda hopping it) and even on the outside of grassy areas. I found a Duckett White Ice on eBay 6-7 years ago for $67.00 brand new and it’s a Kelly Jordan 7’1” MH but is parabolic and I just know how to change up my retrieve and I very rarely lose one ,which is why it’s still my favorite ( not a fan of Boyd😂)
@@robertpatterson3406 That’s funny, but I don’t think it would burn 🔥 I am not a Boyd fan at all, but I have to admit the White Ice rods I bought on eBay with my brother have been really good 👍 we bought 8 of them for under $70 each or less and that was 7 years ago and never had any issues 🤷🏻♂️🍀🎣🍀
@@willperryman4559 yes I’m sure that they are good products but based on what I know about him I would rather use a cane pole if that was the only two choices that I had.
0:13 Great video Todd. Your thoughts on HH and Thunder Cricket for more tanic water color. Eastern NC in a couple weeks. Of all the HH smooth so far my best producing color. Your videos and insights have truly kept me motivated to continue trying to figure them out.
Todd please tell me you’re gonna be one of the special guests on the bass after dark episode Thursday night on if “Should there be tournaments during the spawn.” Would love to see you on there!
I definitely agree... i use 2 different rods for a chatterbait i like the 6'10" falcon head turner when im up working the bank target casting and the 7'4" falcon heavy cover jig rod when im fishing more open water. It always seems like most chatterbait rods are to limber to me and I've never understood that. These baits have a pretty heavy guage hook and you're normally fishing cover. Whats your opinion on glass or composite rods for a chatterbait??? Ive tried them for chatterbait and cranking and hated them.
My buddy and I have a debate on why younger kids are learning the sport faster I'm here to tell you TODD YOUR VIDEOS ARE HELPING MY YOUNGER COMPETITION THERE IS SOO MUCH INFORMATION OUT THERE ONLINE NOWADAYS !! IM 42 PUT 40HRS A WEEK AT WORK 12 TO 8 AND WAS TRYING TO FISH 40 HRS A WEEK 6 TIL 11 BEHIND THE HOUSE AND THEN TOURNAMENT TUESDAY NIGHT AND THE WEEKENDS IF POSSIBLE B4 LIVESCOPE 😂
Really like the signature series rods! Bought one of those swimsuit rods for big squarebills and hybrid hunters. About same action as your super duty rod. Right? Have 2 of the thunder cricket rods for many uses. Great video!
For your viewer that’s fishing lake Palestine official all the time I live 10 miles from it. It’s a very challenging like to fish. I do pretty well on it. Catch a lot of big fish. You’re not gonna catch very many fish per day. It’s just a really tough lake to fish so hopefully you see this maybe but I’ll tell you my number one thing I catch a lot of fish. They’re on is a jackhammer, commit to it
Back in the late 90’s I was trained by a GLoomis rep how to assess a rods action. First of all, the “action” of a blank is best tested by putting the tip on the ground and flexing the blank. Once you have done this with dozens to hundreds of rods you will know exactly what you have in your hand. Eventually you will be able to tell if it is the right rod for the technique you want to use it for. Fishing is all feel, develop yours!!
@toddcastledinefishing5924 thanks I have quite a few Thunder Crickets but honestly have only used very few times but will definitely start putting in the time... thanks for the feedback 👍
What the hell's a thunder cricket? Does that work with forward facing sonar? 😂 Just kidding. I was just listening to Pros Pick 'Em and was feeling like a smart ass. Fantastic teaching man.
Just another fish catch and bait video. It would be nice if someone would put out some videos with actual useful content that makes you think, and possibly how to navigate through those situations. Maybe one day…..

Exactly. I fish on the Potomac, and there is lots of grass.

I 100% agree line also plays a part in it for me. Braid for composite rod and Floro for graphite rod.
Awesome the way you impart the action with the rod. I like doing this when I'm cranking.
7’3 falcon lowrider bladed jig model is a good one too

Yeah if I had a duckett rod I would use it for kindling to start a fire with .

Falcon rods are the best I’ve got old ones and the new Cara line and love them all
@@lylebayless2685 yeah I'm right there with you I've been using them for 20 something years now and love mine

We have been saying the same thing, RUclips good or bad is shortening the learning curve
For several years I caught tons of fish on a homemade chatterbait . It’s gotten tougher and tougher to catch fish on chatterbsits.
Sometimes I need that more limber tip to keep from yanking the bait away from the fish, too.
Thanks.
I've been back and forth between a mod fast and a fast for a chatterbait. I'm thinking I liked the fast better.
That spot was stacked! Shad spawn?
yes

It’s close, not exactly the same but it would be my second choice for sure
Whats your go to trailer on that?
Great Breakdown 👊🏾👊🏾

Awesome Vid. Very informative...What is your go2 weight for 5' & less?
It’s hard but I would say 3/8 ounce. Seems slower is better

You bet
I don't know how in the world you don't bust them rods on the deck of your boat lol. It's crazy man.
What’s funny is I never have not one
