  • @salt.mechanics
    @salt.mechanics Год назад +3

    Just a quick question, at 2:31 you said to use 90-100 g for 30 meters of depth. Why this choice? Is it because you have high drift ? In the United Arab Emirates, we usually use 1 g per 1 meter of depth, so for 30 meters, that will be a 30g jig. Only when the current is strong i double it and i rarely used more that 60g jig. In the 100 meters depth we use 120-150g

    • @fisheatrepeat
      @fisheatrepeat  Год назад +1

      Hey mate I'm not the most knowledgeable but @fishodavo has said the below
      "subject to testing really, the jig is always going to flutter down whichever way you rig it, its not a knife jig so it doesnt sink fast. typically for mechanical jigging its about having a thin jig that sinks fast and lifts fast as thats what enticies kingies to give chase and hammer the jig hard...
      in saying that Joel (the one in the video) does mechnical jigging with the 300g deep contact as it flutters a bit less than the long contact, but yeah you're paying a higher price for a jig thats designed for SPJ.
      In theory I think you could use an SPJ but it won't be as effective

    • @fahmyosman4220
      @fahmyosman4220 Год назад +1

      I'd like to add that using butterfly jigs or spj jigs for mechanical jigs does end up slowing the jigging speed. For example when i go jigging for Spanish mackerel, i notice that using butterfly jigs always end up w my line getting cut by their teeth as they get further ahead of my jigs when they chase after it. Using a knife jig almost always work out easier and with less chances of the line getting cut.

      @darrychristhoper4595 hey mate! This depends a lot on personal preference and the fish you're targeting along with spool capacity of the reel and strand no. Of the braid!
      In this case I'm use 30lb tasline 8-strabd braid which is strong enough for me and fits enough on my very small spool. You may want heavier fighting bigger fish in deeper water tho. But you do want high quality 8+ strand braid so it is thinnest and behaves best with the rod etc

    Ok but why do all SPJ reels look the same with one giant handle on the crank like it's used for deep sea fishing and then it gets attached to a skinny little rod? Can someone breakdown the science behind SPJ reel design n why they r designed the way they are.

    • @fisheatrepeat
      @fisheatrepeat  11 месяцев назад

      Hey mate I'm not the best SPJ fisherman out there.
      But I believe I can answer this. Slow pitch is all about moving the lure. And usually in very deep water. A thin spool with high edges means when you're winding you don't need to use your thumb to guide the line, secondly it makes it nice and light cause you're winding all day rather than bait fishing.
      The handle itself is simply due to gear ratios altho you have gears in the reel. The longer your handle the more internal gears move around and retrieve line for every single turn of your reel. So it makes it much faster to wind in the lure and to make the lure jerk really well with every turn

    • @chelseapeters7187
      @chelseapeters7187 11 месяцев назад +1

      @@fisheatrepeat so if I had the desire to I could slow pitch jig fish with any baitcaster reel then though correct? It just might not be as convenient or as comfortable?

    • @fisheatrepeat
      @fisheatrepeat  11 месяцев назад

      @chelseapeters7187 yep!! You can definitely spj with anything it's just the effectiveness may be less but with good retrieve rate many people use baitcasters

    • @mikedefee
      @mikedefee 10 месяцев назад +1

      Reels designed specifically for SPJ have approximately 45 inches of retrieve per crank. Huge advantage when jigging in deeper water. If you’re fishing in 300’ of water, your bait caster will wear you out on the retrieve plus it likely will not have near the line capacity to fish that deep. So major advantages are line capacity, retrieve ratio, light weight compared to other SW reels. Typically will have 30’ braid with a 40-50 flouro top shot. When fishing really deep, 20’ braid with 50’ flouro top shot.

    This is a great looking new technique but I’ve been jogging with Diamond jigs for over 30 years. Fished commercially using a “squiding technique” reel up then let back down. It’s all about speed and feel. I’ve been hugely successful at it but the strikes on the way down always sucked. … I’ve caught a huge range of fish doing this.

      Hey mate 🤷‍♂️ this is just what I was advised by the Ocean's Legacy NZ distributor & rep but those weight sizes seem to work for me.
      Also if fishing in US you may have slower water movement overall all I wouldn't know. I do know our pacific ocean is surprisingly fast moving tho. 🤙
      But in NZ 150ft being ~ 46m. 30g would take aaages to hit the bottom and unless you were fishing on an extremely calm, low current day, the angle would be about 45°+!
