that analogy your boy @ around 7 minutes, uses with the puppet to explain "line scope" is spot on. good job on that.
Great shop. Had the pleasure of visiting them. Super helpful
Exactly the video I needed to guide me to select the proper jigs for S. California fishing…thanks.
Johnny Jigs is the best and always eager to provide advice. I love calling them and getting Johnny answering the phone!
Thanks Chris. A compreensive 101 in jigging. For people like me who are just starting out, you really nailed it. Cheers
Thanks Chris, the best selection video.
Thank you Chris, your speech AMAZING....it was my first time when I understood many aspects about jigs.....I will try to visit your store.
Easiest to understand and best way explained I've seen out of all the videos on slow pitch I've watched. This video really made it click. I'm gonna be jigging on the oregon coast.
Awesome info. Always learning. Thanks a lot!
Love the video, couldn't stop watching.
Thanks Johnny. Best video I've seen on SP Jigging. Your 12 pack of jigs is awesome. Thanks for making it easy on us new guys getting into jigging. Much appreciated.
Thank you
OUTSTANDING. Informative and very well presented. Thank you!
Thank you Rob..
Thank you very much. I'm new to jigging & I learned a lot. 👌
Thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge. Slow jigging has become my go to off Summerland Key. Still learning technique. "Always stay on top of the puppet!" Yep.
Excellent training. Thank you
Hands down the most educated and trustworthy business owners in the jigging world in the southeast. Plus they give you all the time needed to fully understand the basics. Great group of guys.
Thanks Brian
JohnnyJigsTV. No thanks needed. Thank you for always being my go to for everything jigging. Happy Father’s Day to you guys
Great explanation! Thank you
Tq for sharing...
Hope next week can catch big fish...
Keep it up...
Outstanding video! Very informative. This and the video about slow pitch jigging rod selection are two of the most useful videos on the 'Tube.
My only issue is with the volume of the music. It competes with your voice too much. Otherwise, thank you for this useful information.
Love your vids thanks guys
Amazing!!
Thanks!!
Thanks for the info. Planning my 2nd Wreck Fishing trip off NC, and first attempt at jigging. Last trip I noticed the people that looked like locals, and had the biggest fish, were jigging. 1 Gram per 1 ft of water.
One gram per ft of water is where I normally start but will adjust based on wind and current to keep the jigs vertical.
Great info, thanks
Really cool video! Just trying to get started.
Thank you Ed.
Great video. This was an extremely helpful video to understand different shapes, colors, and when to use them. Would love to see more videos showing how the jigs work below the water in various conditions and with various rod action. An above water shot of the rod action and below water shot of the jigs moving around. I read a lot about problems with scoped out jigs, would like to see what that looks like under water. Thanks for the great videos and jigs.
That's a great idea Mike..I will add it to our content board.
excellent video, excellent information, great work ,
Thank you very much!
Mine come today - I am on San Diego fleet all summer - can’t wait to try them. A video of putting on the hooks - assist-hooks - and leaders especially for the Pelagics - would be great to see too!
Love the suggestions..Thank you
Additional question: usually the skipper has the boat correctly set-up on the drift and they let you know what side of the boat to fish - usually where the wind is in your face but with respect to the current below as you refer to as “SOG” - what’s the best way to know if the current and drift are the same direction or opposite?
Excellent jig-primer video! Your whole crew has a knack for conveying needed information without ever talking down. Hey, when are you boys coming to Oregon? :)
Man o man hopefully sooner than later...Thanks Jon
Johnny, u got excited talking about Chick-fil-A
👏👏👊 great place great people highly recommended
I like to keep the fish guessing, sometimes I hold onto the jig and throw my rod and reel in. 👍
🤣🤣🤣
@@JohnnyJigsTV professional secret tactic gift from me to you sir 😅
Very nice jig cant I get one.... New subscriber.
Excellent explanation - thanks Chris!
Thanks Adrian
Love the videos keep them coming
Thanks Jack 🤙
What jigs do you guys recommend for NorthEast waters? We're talking Pollock, Haddock, Cod, Stripers, Blues, and Ling.. Pretty much all bottom dwellers except for the Stripers and Blues.. Mackerel are blueish and bunkers kinda go gold to brown. Both are baitfish for our bottomfeeders depending on the time of year. Would you recommend matching the color of the jigs to the baitfish in the area?
diameter of line/braid also affects a lot the capacity of the jig to reach the bottom in current condition
perfect !
Thank you
When you talk of water speed over bottom, how are you determining the current speed below you in say 200-400 feet? Especially if its at a differnet speed than that at the surface?
Thanks for this great information this helps a lot for me. My only problem I’m
Having is getting hung up on the bottom. I took off the bottom assist hooks thinking
That would solve my issue but I still got hung up. Any help in this area would be great.
Take off both sets of hooks? Wait no…
Must be very sticky bottom. Just be careful of feeling the bottom and not setting on it. Tap and do a light pull to get the jig up safely with out being snagged and then pitch away. If you feel the snag tip down slack in the line and wiggle it free. If that makes sense…
@@CHDoyle3 thanks Chris, ill apply that technique. The first idea was good to but that answers my next question why I’m not catching any fish. 😁
Sir shore jigging the best jigg bit which is the best and also mud water and medium clear water what kinds using better
Yes mabuhay
Very good presentation with a lot of valuable info.
Thank you Paul..👊
JIG ON!
I just saw the video you did here in San Diego. I have a penn 25n2 with a Penn slow pitch jigging reel. Plan on fishing around 100 feet water for local rockfish and possible lingcod and sheepshead. What color and set up do you recommend? There are few people here doing this but it is catching on. Keep up the cool videos.
Yakman, Thanks for checking out our video. In a hundred feet, I would definitely go for a power one rod. There is a to of options available. We had a ton of success with this jig in the link. I would strongly suggest calling our shop 954-889-4915 for set up advice. Our whole crew is avid SPJ guys.johnnyjigs.com/products/ridged-red-gold-slow-pitch-jig
WOW. I can see I have so much to learn about jigging and proper selection of jigs. If you don't mind, can I ask a few questions and maybe get a recommendation for a jig pack from you. I fish off the West Coast of Florida, from Fort Myers to the Tampa Bay skyway bridge. Most of the fishing is in depths of 60 to 100 feet. I like to fish for Snapper, grouper, yellowtails as well as cobia, amberjack, trigger fish and the occasional flounder that may be out there . As you can see, it is not deep and I try to stay within 30 miles of the coast. I would usually not go out if we have anything over 4ft seas and like my very calm days. So, most of the time, I do not have a strong wind current and will be dealing with water currents. I understand about SOG and appreciate the fact that you hit on that topic so clearly. What 12 jigs would you recommend to a beginning and how would you advised me to approach it? I have been watching the videos for days now and find it very interesting and a way not to have to use a lot of live bait. Thanks again. Tom
Hey Tom, I would recommend using jigs from 40-100g. Consider purchasing the micro jig adventure pack. Also please feel free to call the shop. My team or I would be happy to help you pick out the correct gear for the West coast.
Johnny
I want to catch a dhufish what jig should I use
😊👍🎣🔥
Can you tell when you have a stronger current in the bottom 1/3rd than you do in the upper 1/3? And if so, how do you know? Seems to me that in this condition, we most likely have an unknown bow in our line near the bottom. Which is maybe why we have days that should be, seem to be good weather days but don't produce numbers of fish? We don't know our jigs aren't acting like we think they are. On a side note, I spent 29 years trolling Salmon/Trout on Lake Michigan. For this we used a Fish Hawk X4 (or similiar) that told us the exact speed our lures were at depth and what speed our boats SOG is, along with our locators. We could then exactly determine what the current speed and direction was in that area on that given day and adjust our actual lure speed into the optimum range. I can see how an X4 would possibly be of benefit to hard core slow pitch jigging crowd. Yet, I've never seen speed and temp gauges being used anywhere in salt water.
when would you use jigs over 200g?
Thanks for the info. But I think it's more practical to use 1g : 1m instead of 1g : 1ft.
If you use 1g per meter you will be around 100g in 330' of water. In our Atlantic waters this will not work.
Pink & Glow is the Delicious Chocolate Shake of SPJ 😎💯
Thanks Justin
Awesome stuff guys! Looking forward to the electric reel video.....hint, hint, nudge, nudge.
It's on the content board for future videos 👊
When is the prototype electric reel / tile fish rod coming out
can i try some of your jig idol? im from the philipines
Which jig slides side to side as it falls down the water columns? I want the one that slides side to side erratically as it falls down the water columns, not the one that goes straight down real fast. So which jig do you recommend if I want the one that slides and flutters as much as possible and hangs in the water columns for a while before it hits the bottom? I appreciate it very much if you could give me a list of them or even link a few of them here for me! Thanks in advance if you could help me!
Hey Grand Wonder..Our Flatty has the most hang time of any jig. Also the Flying Wing as well.
Liked it b4 I watched it! Why wouldn't I? 🤙🏾
You know what’s up.
@@steffensamlal1854 The JJ Crew know their stuff and are always willing to give expert advice. Their customer service exceeds all expectations. I had the opportunity to fish with them on yankee capt and Will stopped fishing to personally change out a straighten hook on a jig I bought from them. No hesitation and he gave me a back up assist hook. Johnny jigs has definitely earned my loyally
Great insight fellas, #jigon!!!
Thanks Gotcha expeditions..🤙
swivel or solid ring?
I’m asking as a beginner. If the lure has an eye on it, is that the top of the jig or the bottom?
If the lure is scooped out on one side, is the scooped end the bottom of the jig or the top of the jig?
Tracy, That is a great question. On the jigs with a scoop the scoop is always down. For the most part the eye is a good indicator of where to tie your leader but not always. If the jig is bottom weighted always heavy side down. If the jig is center weighted i generally will tie to the side with the eye. There's always exceptions to the rules but the is a great guide to go by and you will have success...Johnny
@@JohnnyJigsTV Thank you for taking the time to clarify what I suspected. But now I have a good guide on determining which end to tie to.
Using a slow jig on a fast rod/reel set up, is it doable?
Hi Loryang, You can but it will not give you as much action on a jig as a true SPJ Rod.
Look at all them flatty's!
Sir good day.
if i use the general rule,
1g is 1foot of water.
If i going to a depth 300m, im going to use a 984g jigging lure? Im right sir?
im just confuse, im newbie
We generally will be able to use 500-600 grams in 300 meters. 1 gram per foot works well up to 300' but will really depend on the conditions. The main idea is to use as light of a jig as possible and stay vertical.
nice video. well done
Thank you.
Can you jig while using IPilot and staying in one spot over the wreck or reef?
You can if the current is not to bad. I prefer to drift and cover ground.
Whats the difference from knife jig and a torpedo jig
Great question. Knife jig is symmetrical and made to be worked in the water column fast like a fleeing and bait fish. Torpedo jig is asymmetrical and designed to be lifted and allowed to flutter down as if it were an injured bait fish.
How come some people say 1gr/ft some say 1gr/meter . Not sure who is more accurate?
It's a very a rudimentary way of guessing the jig size prior to your first drop. Ultimately the Ocean will tell you what size jig to use. 1 gram per foot is going to be more accurate for the Atlantic and Gulf Coast.
Where you guys are located?? Thanks
Pompano Beach
You own a shop that sells jigs and make an example of people asking what jig to use for a certain species?? yea lets make fun of those starting out because you are a pro..
How to avail your jig sir,?
I'm sorry Henry I do not understand the question.
The music hurts my ear, thank for trying, also can we have video about colors?
Good info guys #treamjig
