    MY PROFILE:
I started fishing when I was just a young kid and instantly fell in love with Bass Fishing. Started fishing tournaments when I was in high school and have been fishing them ever since. For years I fished every tournament I could enter sometimes fishing as many as 45 tournaments a year. I qualified for the Elites when I was 30 but didn't have the sponsors or money to compete so I turned it down. Got sponsor support later and fished the FLW Tour for 2 years and having been fishing the Toyotas since 2006. I’ve won 5 Angler of the Year Titles becoming the only fishermen to have more than 3 AOYs in the Toyota series. Won numerous events along the way that has helped shape my way into working for Strike King as head of product innovation. Along the way, I picked up a camera and started filming my endeavors. I have now fallen in love with making videos about fishing and delivering it to you. Follow along the journey...it should be an honest and fun ride!

You are dead on right about forcing yourself to use and learn a bait. My dad taught me how to play chess when I was 5, I learned how to use each piece by sacrificing my queen early, even for a pawn. I would focus on using the knights, the bishops, and even the pawns. I applied the same to my fishing. I now know how to catch fish using a variety of baits under a variety of conditions.

Just got back into and I mean really into bass fishing this past two years, fished my whole childhood and young adult years but fell off the last couple years, never was super keyed in to dif techniques n whatnot before, always just threw t-rigged worms which I still love but forcing myself to learn different techniques these past two years has expanded fishing sooo much for me. Basically every few months I’ve been picking a couple patterns and forcing myself to learn em and it’s been paying off a lot. Been using the swim jigs a lot lately caught the first 5 pounder I’ve had in over a month on one last week

I’m with you on the less skirt thing. As a teen i lived on a lake near Minden Louisiana and had family working at Mr Twister. My brother in-law was one of the bait designers. He talked them into letting me test new baits to see if they produced fish. The first was what they called “Double Trouble “ basically a twin tail grub. I had no idea how to fish it, so i took a white spinner bait that i had caught so many fish on that there was little skirt left, i took the rest of the skirt off and wormed the grub on. Wow i caught so many fish on it, way more than on the spinner bait itself.

I don’t have much budget, so I really appreciate the advice about preserving the skirts on my cheap jigs with superglue and about not needing to replace or rebuild worn-out jigs as often if the trailers are robust.

Thanks Todd and congrats, happy for ya. My favorite way to catch bass. I never have much luck with swimbait trailers, you may have put me on to something with the deeper application. Next time you are keeping your jig shallow try a Stanley ribbet or the like. That flat body and kick is great and they are tough. Good luck, stay safe.

It’s really just based on where they are in the water column. Bass prefer to feed up but that because of the way they are built. It’s why where eyes are on top of their head.

Comment #2. Todd, is there much difference between using a very stiff rod (say a flipping stick) and 25-30lb fluoro vs using a softer rod (like a MH/Regular Fast 7’3” Poison Adrena) and 30lb braid? I’m using Sunline Asegai with a Shimano Metanium baitcaster. I live in Central Florida, so I deal with lots of vegetation and dark, tannic water with larger bass. I rarely fish the Alabama Shake or a swimjig on the surface of the water. I fish my swim jigs with a swimbait trailer (Gambler EZ Vibez) fished erratically about 3-5 feet below the surface. Tight Lines, I just subscribed based off of this video’s advice.

I don't know what you are trying to prove by putting a toxic lure in your mouth; this is a very poor example for fisherperson's. I believe you have a pair of cutting utensils, use them, and be a good example of how to use this bait.
