I've honestly starting using almost exclusively elaztech baits on the back of my swim jigs because it slows the fall rate way down and it makes the jig stand up when you kill it. Makes it a killer around holes in the grass and when they're roaming around beds
Mikey it was great meeting you at the ramp yesterday. My husband and I really enjoyed talking to you and appreciate your time. Great video...well try next time .
Learned this last year. Very sneaky technique! Important to note that when it gets really hot in the summer, this works early morning before the sun rises. After the sun and temps rise, this bite falls off. Then the wrightless EZ with a slower cadence will get bit. This is full of great info on the cadence, and what to do when a fish misses it the first time! And a great trick for huge bites.
Most definitely, I've had some "killer" summer mornings fishin the swimjig this way. Throughout heavy wood/grass the technique produces for sure.Tight lines🤙
@@FreedomFishing that is one thing i practically never do - night fishing. seems like it would work, especially a big black jig with a round rubber skirt.
@@mikeybalzz Dude exactly my thoughts, a black swim jig, skirt, and trailer! Between the wake, and that unique tail plop, its got to be money. I never do it either, but I'm doing some this year on the Jon! I heard night time = huge bites.
Awesome video Mikey...Next time I am down in Florida I';ll give it a try not much grass on our SC lakes. As always much love to the Bogs....we miss him when he is not with you....
going to give this a go on the Potomac up here in VA for Snake head in the lily pads. Snakes pile up in them and the only way I have found to fish across the pads is with frogs.
Mikey, had a tournament yesterday on Hatchineha couldn't get a bite. Then I remembered this video because I saw some heavy matted grass and pads tied on a weedless Big EZ and swam it over the tops of that stuff and they were crushing it and I ended up catching my limit for the tourney and man seeing them destroy it thru that grass was awesome. Wish I would have spent more time finding those grass patches early in the morning. Thanks for the great content man !!!
Thanks Mike. Swim jigs are a blast anyway you fish them. I use a toad trailer on a light swim jig, same thing. Works great, I'll give the big swim bait a go.
Used to use a similar technique in Virginia at Back Bay. We used a Johnson Silver Minnow with a white or chartreuse twister tail. Needed a stout rod as Back Bay is basically 29,000 acres of mostly milfoil. I’ve had fish out there that I could get turned and they would snap the line. I’m talking 15-20 pound test. That’s heart stopping action!!!
This technique got me back into bass fishing only thing I do differently is add a bandito or rage bug to as a trailer that keeps the bait rising through the retrieve but that’s really my only difference
I really like the technique. I especially like the fact that you did something I was taught 40 years ago by Orlando Wilson and that is to spread that weed guard on the jig. I do that on all my jigs with heavy weed guards and it really improves the hook UPS And yet keeps the dait weedless. very few talk about that.
Very cool video and technique! How would you rig up using a BIG EZ? Just upsize the swim jig a hook size and to a 1/4oz? Impressed how you can attack that thick cover and walk right through it!
In the deep south with shallow lakes choked with veg, a swim jig is our swim bait head! I love taking that skirt of and running it through the thickest slop I can find.
I have a hard time finding swim jigs that are less than 3/16, I really want to find a 1/8 size head. Even with 3/16 there are only a couple companies that make them. Any suggestions on where to get 3/16 or smaller jig heads? I prefer to tie my own if possible.
Hey Mikey, You stated you use a 3/16 oz Gambler G.O.A.T. Swim Jig. I just looked, and they do not make a 3/16 Oz. They make 5/16 oz. Am i missing something? Love your videos.
You're saying this isn't well known? I'm surprised if that's so. I'm a what-ever fisherman. I've been fishing swim jigs with exactly a Gambler EZ with part of the front bit-off to shorten the bait. The swim bait makes the jig wobble. It's almost like a subtle crankbait action.
I like to cut the first half of the big ez off and use the rear end. More compact and really comes through the pads alot better. Not sure why but i think toho bass go stupid for that technique almost year round in water 4 ft or deeper. They just hammer the jig ez
You're speaking my language! Love a swimjig, especially when I need to fish it just under the surface of the water above submerged grass up shallow in a gill color or bait fish color with a trailer that gives a huge amount of drag. Got really good at it fishing Neely Henry in Gadsden AL just junk fishing.

Mikey I absolutely love this technic, I've caught some of my biggest fish doing this!
I’ll be throwing that Nichols though. I got to check out Brooks operation a few years back when I had a job site at FSU. Super chill dude.

I wonder how (compared to frog fishing) how that would perform over vast Lilly pad fields here in Michigan?
Swim Jig in the pads is deadly.
it works, i've done it in wisconsin on those natural lakes down in the metro areas with pad fields and a slight color to the water.

I'm digging the Komodo alot on the back of my swimjig.
For being a streamlined bait that thing really swims in the water when you reel it
