This isn't dark and depressing at all! It's just a bunch of wonderful bright shiny marine creatures trying to survive a microplastic infused wasteland full of dangerous man-made objects and social constructs that will kill them (inclusive or) make their lives inescapably horrible!

Yeah, I think Jon might have missed the message they appear to be saying. Everytime Jon says how cute it is with a bit of plastic round his neck, or a can as a shell, I'm thinking he's missing the pollution angle.
The Duchess was holding a tea strainer as a mace. This game is adorable.
Most of the weapons are like that, the lobsters have straws and cup tops, some of the crabs had Q-tips. Even the flags in the castle are empty ketchup packets.

I'm not entirely sure how much more cheerful the story of a hereditary despot sending conscripts into an ecological sacrifice zone to die for trinkets amid the poisoned fragments of their environment is than the more typical soulslike environments.

This is what makes games great. The fact that someone likes Souls games and Hermit Crabs thought, lets make a souls like about a hermit crab who gets his house stolen by a loan shark. Absolutely amazing.

Normally I have no interest in souls like games, but then at the end. I love seeing games add accessible options in.

I have so many issues that get in the way of enjoying games, physical and cognitive, that I define myself as an avid non-gamer - I love the artform, I love watching people explore it, but I am, for the most part, entirely excluded from non-vicarious enjoyment. When games got he extra mile for accessibility, it open us new worlds for me that I could not experience otherwise!

I think the environmental storytelling is trying to say that the boss took the pearl for the queen and then got corrupted by the pollution.
The item's description is also "junk" and mentions that it was produced "far beyond the ocean".
I think that the implication is that it's just a piece of plastic costume jewelry.
For anyone mildly confused about MSG - mono-sodium glutamate. Chemical enhancer used in many take away foods, but also naturally occurring in tomatoes and some cheeses. Just that some vids have called it message, but have no idea why it would be 😁
If a food ever tastes extremely delicious, check the ingredients: it probably has msg in it.

You know, this game is wonderful and charming and I'm so glad it exists, but it has also given me a powerful hunger for a Soulslike with a bit more Subnautica visuals/tone

I have to say with my experience and efforts poured into these titles
and a long love and appreciation for dark gritty LORE-filled From-Soft games!
Another Crab's Treasure is exactly what Souls-likes OUGHT to be, using the fundamental game mechanics as the framework to build their own stories and own worlds 10/10!
This also makes me really happy this specific game has difficulty settings because it seems like the perfect introduction to Souls-likes for the next generation of gamers. They can try the combat out at their pace and if they decide they want to 'git gud' they can gradually up the difficulty until they're ready to take on From Soft titles 😄

What I’m curious about is how long a tide is - IRL the difference in peak high-tide and low-tide is about 6 hours, so even if you’re just counting from one high-tide to another a two-tide delay in tax repayment isn’t longer than a day
