Well it wouldn't be Jon if he wasn't fumbling a bit. Honestly there's a bunch of stuff he could have done better but he's new so I wouldn't expect him to know the meta. It helps for the early antes to save your money because not only do you generate money by winning in as few hands as possible but also you begin to earn interest after each blind once you have enough money in the bank. Jon never had more than $10 usually but when you save your money you start to get up to the 20s to 40s easily. Like he noticed in the end, investing in planet cards goes a long way but it helps to focus on leveling more than one kind of hand, having options is nice. Don't be afraid of the reroll button at shops as well, once you've built up a good nest egg you can afford to do it more often and find jokers that might compliment your deck better as well as having more chances of seeing planetary packs.
Overall he did okay for a new player but he should have realized he was stagnating a bit with his largest hands were never going much past 13,000. I think he could have tried to feed the cannibal Joker more, especially that one that only added chips based on deck size, it really wasn't contributing much and would have been better off adding to the other joker's mult. He also underestimated how powerful ×mult is, which could have carried him further.

Snap is probably the most common card game for kids in the UK, or at least it was when I was young (I'm roughly Jon's age). You take it in turns placing one card down at a time, and as soon as you get a match - two kings, for example - you hit the cards and say "snap!". Quickest wins the pile. The winner is the one who has all the cards at the end. Incredibly simple, hence it's appeal to little kids.

The five of a kind which is five cards of the same rank, and the flush five which is five of a kind but all in the same suit. You also won't get planet cards for these hands until you've played them for the first time in each run.
What's really interesting is that lower scoring hands like 2 two pair, pair, and high card are really easy to buff but high scoring hands like strait flush and four of a kind take much more work to build towards.

Right? I''m baffled. I tried watching the live stream (it's Thursday in the future) and was immediately confused. Jon's comparing it to Snap makes zero sense so that's no help. The only relationship to poker seems to be the hands. Based on the live streams Jon seems to think only flushes are worth trying for. Maybe that's true with this game? But I can't imagine how you'd manage ever winning a hand if you ignored all the lesser hands. His comparing it to Snap confuses the issue even more. It's nothing like Snap except that their are pairs involved.

    • @tzera_rhuon
      @tzera_rhuon 6 месяцев назад

@Mixxie67 Flushes are the easiest hand to play by virtue of how many cards are drawn (8+), and the numerous ways to remove cards or alter their suits. This is mitigated by the score of flush hands scaling terribly in later antes.
In short, there are 8 antes with three blinds each; the 3rd blind in each ante is considered a "boss" and usually negates some aspect of your deck. Each ante increases the score needed to succeed (so the very first blind requires 300 points, the last 100k). The deck played determines how many hands and discards can be used per blind.
Score is determined by chips x mult(iplier), which is set by the degree of difficulty of each hand type (straight-flush scores higher than high-card obviously). Cards played will score their numerical value in chips as well.
Joker cards are used mainly to augment the number of chips or mult a hand will score. Planet cards will upgrade a certain hand type, thus scoring more chip/mult if that hand type is played (Earth upgrades full-house, Saturn upgrades straight, Jupiter upgrades flush etc). Tarot cards modify the cards in the deck in some way (changing their suit, upgrading their rank, copying other cards, removing cards from the deck).
The hope is to assemble a group of jokers, upgrade hand types, and rig the deck in such a way that you can consistently score your most valuable hand (which are *not* always the most difficult either ~ my best score overall was with a high-card build)

    Star Control Date 0046!
I really feel like we're picking up steam now.
Speaking of Steam... did you know you can play a modern port of Star Control 2 for free on Steam? It's called "Free Stars - The Ur-Quan Masters". Crazy, the things you can do with computers these days...
Now that that non sequitur is out of the way, I'd like to humbly and promptly request that Jon play Star Control 2 (wait a minute... that's that game from my random steam-related factoid!! what are the chances??).
It is, after all, his favorite game. Regardless of whether or not he knows it.
Thank you very much, and good bye.

I love watching balatro videos but I always get annoyed with some plays 😂. Always feed the knife, it gets you a higher multiplier, and it leaves you a joker space when you're in the shop. I would have knifed the spade joker and astronaut instead of holding on to them.

The term 'snap' can precede any poker action to indicate that the action was taken immediately without any form of hesitation. For example, if our opponent calls our bet instantly it is referred to as a snap call

@@gabrielbarron7667 Snap is a card game present in most of the Commonwealth countries. Very easy - you sit facing one another, and each get half a deck. You deal cards one at a time onto a central pile. If the card you place is the same value as the card on top of the pile, you have to yell 'snap' and touch the pile. First one to touch the pile means the opponent gets all the cards in the pile, and you continue until one player is out of cards and wins - or you could do it where the winner gets the pile, and then the person who is out of cards is the loser at the end. It's really simple, based on reactions. It's a common playground game.

it's always funny when someone says they don't know how to play poker. I would usually say, whats next, you don't understand how to play pictionary or know how to count or know face cards are worth more based on their royalty? except jack, I don't get it, it was called knave, but that still doesn't make sense why its not a prince or something like that.
but basically poker is like memory but with a hand...so kinda like go fish

@Jon The reason James bond can make poker classy is because it not a game about making hands, its about your hand in relationship to others. It is all about probabilities and social abilities. Video games cant capture what makes poker really work. I tied with a professional poker player in my neighborhood through just reading people and perception deception/manipulation. He would have won, but I made it such a confusing grind he just gave upXD

It's called a Blind because in a standard game of poker it's money you have to wager on the hand "blind" meaning before you've seen your hand. Typically the big and small blind rotate around the table as hands are played with the small blind being half the big blind.

Lots of people know what Snap is. You may know it by another name. It isn't Poker unless his version of Snap was very, very slow. The idea of Snap is everyone is dealt the cards from a full deck and take turns flipping them over quickly as possible. The first one to spot a consecutive pair (i.e., a 2 followed by a 2) slaps their hand down on the cards and yells Snap. They get that hand and all the cards beneath the hand. I don't know how Jon thinks that's like Poker.

My favorite FPS of all time is Wolfeinstein: Enemy Territory, which was built on the Q3 arena engine. I put something close to 67k hours into the game, and you eventually hit a point where you get bored of the normal game play. I got pretty invested in the trick jumping scene and really enjoyed the break from the norm.
It had such an impact on me that I'm specifically trying to recreate the physics in an MMO 1st person RPG I'm developing.
