My husband is out for the afternoon so I watched you on the telly instead of my tablet. I had my cup of tea and honestly felt like the two of us were just having a heartfelt chat. Oh many times I've lost my sewjo! I think you are smart to just sew something quick and easy. It's wonderful that you are able to step back from your job and look for something more fulfilling. Someone once told me follow your passions. My passion is sewing so I started my own alterations business. I also worked full time at a daycare. I love doing wedding alterations and seeing the joy in a bride's face when her dress fits perfectly. It is hard when, even though other people say you look fine, but you are not happy with your size. It's a struggle and definitely a more female thing. I've felt like that for most of my life, and I know it's crazy. It's probably because i grew up super skinny and of course my body changed after 2 pregnancies and my stomach never was the same. I see my body so differently than others see it. I will watch that vlogger you recommended about decluttering, my husband and I have been trying to do that since I retired a few months ago. You are so lucky to have the sewing shows to go to. There is nothing like that where I live in Canada. It would be so much fun just to go and see new things and of course tough the fabrics. I would be so star struck seeing all the sewing vloggers. Sometimes I have so many ideas in my head of what I want to sew, that I get overwhelmed and don't sew anything. I think following some of the challenges has helped my focus on what to sew. I knew for the sewfrugal I wanted to stick to basics. And there is one in April, sew a blouse. I have some ideas for that and I actually need some in my wardrobe. I also have few WIPS, one being a pink gingham Heather Blazer. Perfect for wearing when I go out for lunch with friends or even just doing errands with my husband. I look forward to seeing what you have made for sewfrugal. I should be cutting out some things, but my sister just texted to meet for tea. So guess what I'm going to choose!?

Aahh bless you what a lovely message to receive.
I think getting involved in the challenges is such a good idea - it really does help. I’m hoping to be involved in the sew a blouse challenge too.
Hope you had a lovely tea with your sister.
Thank you so much for your message 🥰

Take your time to enjoy your home and creative life! After your planned vacation, something will pop up to inspire you. One day at a time….but appreciate each day in your heart. Who among us hasn’t needed to reinvent ourselves a bit as we transition thru decades? Each decade has its interesting and fun times. Just flow and go. Your sparkle stays despite an extra inch here and there!

That was a very interesting chat and thank you for sharing your thoughts. In some ways it's reassuring to know that other people have dips in their enthusiasm. I've been in your situation in some ways though it won't help you to know my lack of sew-jo lasted more than 20 years! But I decided last December to try again. Part of my problem had been putting on a huge amount of weight about 20 years ago and instead of trying to find a style that suited me I started wearing things that just hid my shape. But now I'm looking more at making things that suit my personality rather than what I look like. Sorry that was a bit of a ramble but what I'm trying to say is that it will come back and you will enjoy sewing again - just try to re-learn to be yourself and not to put yourself down for gaining a bit of weight - it happens and you can still be happy with your body.❤

Hi Angela, it is such a shame that the school wasn't the right job for you but it is important to take a step back to re-evaluate and find what you want. There is nothing worse than doing a job that isn't right for you.
I too have lost my sew-jo, for similar reasons to you. I hadn't sewn anything since November but in March I started to get back to doing a little bit. I love making baby clothes and have made so much for all my friends when they had little ones. But now that I am expecting I am finding it so difficult to find the motivation. My sewing room needs a good declutter but actually I will be losing that space soon. I have far too many fabrics and patterns to even know where to start. I actually stopped watching RUclips until yesterday because it was all a bit much. But I am determined to find the time and space to sew over the Easter holidays.
The stitching show looks fun, I have seen a lot of people talking about it on here and Instagram. I am amazed that you didn't buy any fabric though I can never avoid it!
I hope you manage to get your sew-jo back soon x

Oh I really feel for you, I’ve been exactly there except I couldn’t quit my boring job. My changing body also made me loose my sewjo for dressmaking, none of my old patterns fit me anymore. The longing for sewing was strong though and at 58 I suddenly I got the idea to start my small business (on the side of my job) and started sewing cushions from second hand textiles! That way I got to sew and create and use up old curtains and clothes and what not and get a little bit of money on the side. That was 12 years ago and I have kept sewing and developing my collection with bags and lots of other things and lately jackets. In the meantime I found a new style in clothes that I felt good in and started sewing for myself again. Now I’m retired and sew more than ever and enjoy life immensly!
Much love to you with a hope that you find your inspiration and sence of calm and harmony in your life 💖

I lost my sew-jo for a bit. I still sewed, I made other things, like bags, and did embroidery for a bit. It was because I'd gained a bit of weight and felt as you do. However, I am now 72 and decided it's time I stopped worrying about my weight and embraced the body I have now - especially while it still all works :-) Enthusiasms wax and wane, it will come back.

It’s great that you have a plan , you are keeping busy, you are engaging with colleagues on various collaborations etc and you’re still talking to us! This blinking awful weather has been enough to depress us all, which probably hasn’t helped.
Take the pressure off yourself and allow yourself some time and space, don’t rush and have fun! usually these things just seem to sort themselves out. Take my word as a “young” senior citizen I’ve been there and It usually all works out in the end. We’re with you my dear 🤗.

Hi Angela, Watched you yesterday and just wanted to say you are not alone and you made me feel like I wasn't either. My sewjo has been missing recently and I often can't bring myself to sew clothes I don't think i'll wear. I have also recently handed my notice in at work (only 4 days to work) with nothing else to go to. I was finding all the joy had gone from life. Feeling very positive now about a little me time and hope to get sewing again soon. Just altered a pair of trousers and planning to turn a dress into a skirt later. I need to find my new style after far too many years hidden under a lab coat. I think many of us need to get back into the old way of dressmaking ie buy a pattern and fabric and notions and then make that item - I find having so many patterns that I wont make(mainly from magazines) and fabric bought with no plan can make me feel a little overwhelmed. Look forward to watching your plans going forward and thank you for your videos - its like catching up with a good friend who understands sewing😊.

Angela you are not alone. I have lost my sewjo many times. I don’t put too much pressure on myself but go with the flow. I’ll visit my sewing room looking through my patterns and fabrics. Then I’ll leave thinking about what I might want to sew. I’ll watch RUclips videos including you 😊. I go on Pinterest to get some inspiration and motivation. Sometimes one or all of those things work. I’m trying to decide right now what I want to make for spring and summer 😵‍💫 decisions decisions! You’ll get back on track and when you do there’ll be no stopping you 😂 Always enjoy your videos 👗🪡🧵🥰

So pleased I watched your video as I was in a similar place 2 years ago, my job was just making me feel really low. I've done office work most of my life and 2 years ago I just found sitting still in front of a computer wasn't me. I gave my notice with no job to go to my hubby was so supportive and said just leave and take your time with finding something you'll enjoy. You've done the right thing it's good to take the time at home and clear your head and the right job will come along. My dream job would be to have my own fabric & sewing shop but that's not going to happen but I'm so glad I have my sewing room. I know work in retail in my favourite shop ( which is a little lethal as I keep buying things 😅) but I'm in a happy place and hubby said it's lovely to see me come home from work with a smile on my face 😊 x

I agree re job. If it is not what you need no point staying in it if you can do it.
I left my small corpo very stressful job 5 years ago (mainly to stay with Alice) and I don't miss it at all.
I, too, had to reevaluate the wardrobe I had and i am still not sure what my style is.
I have home clothes (that i don't mind cleaning in)
I am slowly working on making my "out of house" everyday wardrobe that will fit my needs.
Re sorting sewing space-Alisa from Thoughtful Creativity did recently brilliant series about it.

Hi Angela, what an inspirational video. I go in and out all the time with loosing my sew-jo ,I haven’t bought any fabric in about a 6 months just because I was overwhelmed what I already got, I have decluttered a lot of fabric and sewed up even more, I felt really good to doing that, and I now have better control over what I have and what I’m going to sew these coming months . My style is definitely changing ,from what I loved couple of years back and what I love today ❤ I do have a lot of patterns that just don’t work for me anymore,so those are my next project to get rid of. The way I get back to sewing and my humble advice is 'don't sew', basically don't force it. For me, I do other hobbies, classes, visiting etc that need mental stimulation and or learning and of course some good 'ol belly laughs. When I felt like getting back into it, I tried quilting, small things ... no commitment. Quilting is not really my ' long term thing', but i was learning lots and I think that's important. After a little while I found I wanted to sew clothing a bit. I looked in my stash at that moment, grabbed a simple pdf I had and sewed a simple top. I then sewed a couple of simple tops and simple shirts, no obligations, no stress, then took another break. I felt accomplished and satisfied but i didn't want to get overwhelmed. My opinion is if you feel you have to do something or should do something (even self inflicted), it takes the fun out of it. Take life as it comes. 😊Have a wonderful Easter weekend. I hope the Easter bunny comes to you 🐇🐰 I always enjoy your videos.

Also I find spending time with other people helps, have you got time planned with Helen, you could cook up some lovely ideas. Lastly I think the weather will make such a difference and when we start wearing lighter clothes you will be itching to make more. A change in employment situation, even one of your own choosing, makes for a tough wardrobe transition. My husband and I retired five years ago and we also moved ro a different climate. I've been sewing ever since because now I have the time after so many years of not having time to sew much but I still haven't figured out a "style". I also gained a considerable amount of weight during COVID that I can't seem to lose AND making pants terrifies me so there are a couple more wrinkles to the situation.I have tops upon tops and dresses upon dresses but very few pants that fit!. LOL! It's been interesting, that's for sure. I think the sewing challenges and collaborations will be a good way to get you motivated to sew something as you figure out what's next. X

Thank you for sharing. I have just started sewing again after 25 years (long story) and can relate to your ‘what size to make’. In the last 10 years I have put on 10 stone, lost 4 stone last year and then put it all back on by the end of the year. I didn’t want to sew until my weight was better but decided, as you have, to make what I want to wear now (and I need stuff) and deal with what happens to my body later. Thanks for your insight. Good luck at getting back your ‘sew-Jo’ and once again thank you for sharing and ‘being vulnerable’ . It has helped.

Totally agree with the not making anything due to body shape !
I’ve put off not making clothes for a year or so and concentrated on other sewing.
Gradually realising that I am the shape I am and just get over it 😊

Hi Angela, remember sewing is your hobby and it's ok to take time out and maybe even do something else for a while. I love sewing but I tend to make just one item a month on average and for me that's fine.
I completely get what you mean about your 'working/lifestyle' wardrobe. I'm retiring from my job as a teaching assistant later this year, and I'm starting to think about what I want to wear once I no longer need my smart casual but practical clothes. It's good to make a plan and be more focused on our sewing I think. Hope you won't be hard on yourself and that you can enjoy this time away from 'work' while you work out what you want to do. xx

In January I made a pledge to myself to complete my WIPs, I have now successfully completed this job. I also decided that I needed a way to organise my sewing patterns and for this purpose I have used Trello. This has been very beneficial because I have been able to discard those patterns I don't want any more and also I have revisited all of my patterns, which has been lovely. Lastly I am now organising my fabric stash in the same way. I have always had a problem of deciding which fabrics to use for which pattern. I now intend on spending some time creating a project board on Trello where I can do this so I will have some idea of how I will use my stash of fabrics. I have a very minimalist house and my sewing space is the only area where there is a lot of stuff. I have to have order for my mental health and having undertaken this process I feel so much better and in control, even though I still have a lot of stuff. Lastly I was in the same situation as you were in terms of a coat I had started to make and it was such a pain to make it took me a year to complete. It is now on the naughty step waiting to see if I will actually every wear it, so you are not alone.

Well done on completing all your wips too

Thank you Angela for the vlog and your honesty and openness 🤗. You’re going through some pretty big stuff aren’t you - job/identity and maybe a bit of empty nest syndrome? Enjoy just being you as you are today and find the joy in little things. A collab sounds ideal. Is there a local stitch and bitch group? Could you set one up? If I lived near you, I’d definitely join you as I think you’re so inspirational and so authentic! Watching others on RUclips can cause anxiety and FOMO - maybe time to slow down and celebrate everything that’s right ❤xxx spoil yourself and enjoy Nature xxx you deserve to be happy 😊

I can get overwhelmed with too much to sew as I teach sewing, so I decide what I want to make its always pattern first then fabric so I don't end up with too much stash, I only bought the Carolyn pyjama pattern at the stitch festival so now I have the joy of sourcing fabric for a sewing get away later on in the year. I think one garment at a time is the way to go xx

Ooh - this resonates with me so much! Conversely, I have lost weight and nothing fits, and I am still trying to adjust to my new measurements. I also went to the Stitch Festival but only bought some buttons and a new rotary cutter. I have a wardrobe full of clothes suitable for work, but have not yet worked out my style now that I have retired, and reach for the same thing (aka jeans) over and over again. I'm hoping the spring and summer will resurrect my sewjo too. Thanks for sharing how you feel - just reading the comments below clearly there are many of us that feel the same way! xx

Hi Angela you inspire me with your vlogs, I to have lost my mojo for sewing, however am going to get back into it again mainly because the clothes that are online are very expensive, and the cheap ones don't last , so if I make my own at least they will fit me and not cost a fortune, looking forward to your vlog on Sunday, Take lots of love xxxx😍

Angela, I feel like you’ve just put into words EXACTLY how I feel right now too. I haven’t lost my sewjo but my head is all over the place because I’m not the size I want to be either and it really affects you when you put so much effort into making clothes that may not fit. The weather and what feels like an endless winter is really getting to me too especially as I love wearing and making summer clothes! Come on sun 🙌🏻 I really hope that in time you get your sewjo back but I think you’re doing exactly the right thing and taking it easy. Great to see you briefly at the stitch festival 😉xx

I feel the same as you! I didn’t buy much at the Sewing For Pleasure show, just some fabric I’d wanted before that had sold out. I have a stash full of fabrics I want to make but for me it’s a bit of not having much free time and so finding it difficult to get stuck into a more involved make, and my style changing so being a bit scared of tackling a new pattern and all the fit and adjustments that will be involved. But I’m trying to just focus on 3-5 pattern/fabric combinations I know I’m really excited about and tackling projects bit by bit rather than thinking I need 4 hours to sew in one go. But still lovely to go to sewing events and get inspiration and share our passion with like minded people 😊

Thanks for taking the time to vlog, I find it difficult to do that when I’m not in the headspace to sew. I generally find I lose my sewjo if I’ve had an oversew but thankfully it doesn’t seem to last too long. It’s often watching another RUclipsr that re sparks my sew engine. I’ve mostly avoided Friday Sews as I think I’d put pressure on myself to churn out vlogs every 7 days and therefore have to make something and I know that timeframe doesn’t suit my lifestyle. Just do you Angela 😍💕

I can also totally relate to the lack of enthusiasm due to not necessarily being the size/shape you want to be. I am struggling with that a bit at the moment too - made a ball dress for a black tie do a couple of weeks ago, and whilst everyone else said it looked lovely, I just wasn''t happy with it on me! Still enjoyed myself at the ball regardless!! I am hoping to go to Westpoint, probably on the Saturday., but I haven't decided yet. Would be lovely to meet you if you are there. Sometimes I think doing something that is still creative but totally different to sewing is a nice way to take the pressure off, maybe try something new or take a class. I think periods of not making are also an important part of the creative process, just like the seasons, there is a useful time when nothing appears to be happening, but future seeds are germinating!
