I'm late to this party, but this is great. Thank you! And that fabric is so good. I love a spotty fabric and need to find a tone-on-tone one like yours. What a perfect make!
Thank you so much for taking the time and effort to film the very inspiring video on self drafting your skirt. Its amazing and I really want to make one of my own now. Your recreation is beautiful and looks stunning on you. ❤
Great video Angela! I love this tutorial type vlog, it’s great to see how to make your own pattern, even if you’ve a fair idea how to do it, it’s so good to actually see it done. I much prefer these vlogs to fabric hauls or subscription box openings etc, so much more satisfying. Well done and it may help to get your sewjo back and use up some stash!😉💕
Thanks for this lovely tutorial Angela - I didn’t have time for sew frugal this year but I’m definitely going to have a go at drafting a skirt like yours - I have several 1.5 and 2m pieces of gorgeous jersey with no plan of what to make ! ❤
Hi Angela thankyou so much for your reveal and pattern drafting instructions. I often copy garments and make a pattern. I also add the year to the pattern pieces and when I finish the garment I pin a scrap of the fabric I used. Makes it easier for me to identify which is the latest version of the pattern.
Thank you, thank you! ☺️ I sadly missed the sewfrugal 24 as I have/had lost my “sewjo” but after watching your video, you have inspired me to start sewing again. 😊
Thank you for the great informative sewalong. I loved how you explained the simplicity of calculating the self drafted pattern. The skirt turned out beautifully ❤
Wow, thank you so much for showing how to make these skirts both ways. As a short person, I love long skirts but find it very difficult to find any that fit. I’m going to be drafting my own pattern with confidence now and also using the 1 skirt that I do love to make more. Thank you!
Excellent tutorial. I will definitely have a go! I am always sad when sewfrugal is over. I know I can sew free patterns all year round but there's something special about knowing hundreds if not thousands of people are doing it with you at the same time. I made 3 tops this year, all turned out too short 🤦 but I learned from each of them.
Thank you so much Angela for taking tge time to make this video. I loved the end result and am certainly planning to have a go. Now off to seek out some appropriate Jersey fabric.
Thank you for such a brilliant vlog. That was the best instruction on how to draft a skirt I have watched. Also, you looked amazing. That dress was absolutely gorgeous on you. X
Thanks Angela for taking the time to explain, and oh my you make a great teacher, you explain things so well, iv taken a screenshot and going to give it a go 🤞 x
That was a brilliant tutorial Angela. You are a really good teacher. What about a new business? A sewing school. You'd be brilliant. I made a Tiana's Closet Hailey tank top with several alterations to it for Sew Frugal 24. I'm not sure whether it got entered though as I had problems with Instagram. Never mind, I'll try again with Sew April Blouse.
Ahh that's really kind of you - thank you. Ah no - what a shame - I hope you did manage to enter it. Like you say - hopefully you can enter it for Sew April Blouse 🥰
I had tins like those. I filled them with small pebbles you put in aquarium. Then I put cute stickers on top. I secured them. With e1000. Love this blog.
Thanks Angela, great idea and your skirt looked lovely as styled by you. That material would make great pull on trousers as well. Lots of inspiration as always thank you X
Thank you for this video, I purchased some viscose jersey earlier this year because I loved the prints. I was planning on making a Keillor wrap dress but have hesitated because I was worried fabric would be too thin/clingy (and one of the prints I’d bright pink/blue leopard print!). Now I’ve seen this I think they’ll make excellent skirts 🤔😁👍
That tip for measuring the length you want your garment was genius. So obvious when you show it but it's never occurred to me! On the cutting out of the skirt, you could have folded both sevedges to the middle to get 2 folds. Didn't matter at all with your fabric, but if it did this is the way to go. Love the finished product ❤
Thanks for the very informative tutorial. What is the width at the bottom of your skirt? I've made a similar skirt for a young girl using a cotton fabric. Because of lack of stretch I used the hip measurement with a couple of inches of ease for the waist measurement. This allowed the skirt to have enough room to pull over the hips. I then added about 4 inches to the hip width of the skirt. So there is a bit of gathering at the waist. The pattern just needs enough ease to pull on over the hips. The girl wanted a straight skirt, so i made sure to add a small slit on the side seam to make walking easier. While making my t-shirt for the challenge, I ended up piecing some fabric to the sleeves so they would be long enough. It's annoying when there isn't quite enough fabric for want you want, but as sewists, we can often figure it out to make it work. I'm going to use your tutorial to make a skirt for the summer. And that will be using another piece of fabric from my stash! Sewfrugal!

Do you always wash your fabrics before sewing them?
Always - it’s the safest way to make sure they don’t shrink after sewing 🥰
