Confirmed….you are a logical and sweet lady with core values that can improve one’s perspective well beyond being a sewist. You must be a joy to your family and friends. It’s going to be fun for viewing friends to see what changes, if anything, in your fashion design preferences.

I waited to watch this when I would have time to really soak it in. When you were speaking about really loving things you see on others and sometimes work for you and sometimes don’t. I was thinking SAME! I clearly did not know my style for me. I am on a style discovery journey. Spending more time thinking about what I love to wear, why I love it, why certain garments love me, before charging on with sewing things I love on other people.

Aaahh thank you so much for watching. I hope it was helpful. I think it is worth just spending a bit of time analysing and assessing your wardrobe and style for sure.
Good luck - and I hope you find a style etc that you love and makes you feel wonderful 🥰❤️

As I listened to you Angela, I realized I've been unconsciously also taking stock of my makes, taking photos of all my me makes for a while now because I haven't been happy with how the clothes look on me. But it didn't dawn on me till just now, that I've continued to be drawn to patterns and silhouettes that's match how I DID look and still WANT to look like and not so much on the end result on me now. I turned 60 in the spring, and needless to say, there have been oodles of changes in my body over the last 5 years. I guess being honest with myself is the first step for me. Thank you!

I think stepping back and seeing a photo of yourself in a full shot, makes such a difference, we instantly without knowing hone in on the things we don’t like or do like, that we rarely get the full “picture” of ourselves. The amount of times hubby has taken a picture while I’m ambling around somewhere or something, then I’ve seen it after and thought ‘Oh that outfit really suits me’ or ‘that’s not my colour’ and it makes such a difference compared to looking in a mirror ❤

    • @DevonThreadTales

It really does help so much doesn't it - I can't believe how different you can see yourself standing back.
      Thank so much Adam 🥰

One way I've overcome honing in on one thing or another as opposed to the whole picture is I stand in front of the full-length mirror, close my eyes, take a deep breath in and out, and when I open my eyes I see the full picture. It reminds me of "first impressions".

Hi Angela, I’ve loved watching your me made May vlogs. You are so inspirational, I desperately need to go through my wardrobe, taking pictures and videos is a great idea to see how I really feel about my clothes. I retired 18 months ago and I’m a bit lost as to what to wear at home, I need comfort with some style. I’m trying to push myself to wear more colour and pattern. I’m looking forward to seeing your summer plans. By the way you always look fabulous ❤❤

I found this to be really helpful in many ways. While I love watching other RUclips sewing channels, many advocate constant buying of fabric and patterns, regardless of cost. I'll definitely be taking pic's to see how I actually look in my clothes. 😊

A lot of very good advice in your presentation. We do need to dress to please ourselves. I was very much into everything fashion in my younger days and into middle age, but since an accident has left me somewhat handicapped, my style of dressing/ etc... has changed completely. But I still enjoy the topic of fashion . Love the necklace you were wearing, and your green dress was very flattering.

I really enjoy your video’s and I take so much inspiration from them. I’ve been sewing for 4 years but I’ve never really done a deep dive into my style before. Me made May has taught me that I’ve been focusing more on colour than style. I’ve made many items that I thought I liked (Autumn palette coloured fabrics) but didn’t wear that much because the style was wrong. I know that my body shape needs focus on my waist but I also need softer, more girlie pattern choices. Less shirts/shirt dresses, more blouses, maxi/midi summer dresses. I’m definitely going to go through the same consideration with my autumn/winter wardrobe. I would love to see something similar from Sewing RUclipsrs.

Another way I’ve decided to judge my success in my makes is actually a twist on what you’re saying about not letting other people’s opinion sway your judgement. There are some things that almost everyone compliments me on. Those are clearly items that are well suited for me. It’s often, I think, the color choice, but also the fit and style. And the opposite is true. There are some makes that I love and I don’t receive compliments on. Hmmmmm…….something to think about!

Really enjoyed watching your MMM series, you always look lovely, your green dress is fab. I think losing your 'sense of style' at a certain age is quite common, I've been on this journey too, watching vloggers make up patterns with different body types is helpful as you can imagine what might suit your own shape. I aim for a more quiet luxury style, simple shapes and lines with plainer fabric 😮 that's not to say I always achieve it!! 😂 Watching MM personal styling has helped me and she does courses which I'd love to do 😊

Thank you Angela. So much useful reflection and suggestions. A mini series would be great. I'm at a point of giving up making for myself as I so often end up not wearing them. I need to find a pattern I love and learn how to make it for me properly. Your thoughts are very helpful. I know what suits me from my ready to wear clothes but I've struggled to reproduce that. Maybe I'll keep on searching!

Hi, I met you at Andrea's open day in Poundbury. I admired your dress and told you that I was thinking of making the Shelby dress but I liked your similar dress. Anyway, I have been reading 'The Curated Closet', a very interesting book which advises to take photos of your daily outfits for I think 2 weeks. I don't know if you have heard of this book. I have watched you for several years and find this direction that you are moving your channel very interesting, thank you.

Great reflection Angela. I also try to look at what I'm wearing and what I like and don't like and why. I don't look right in oversized clothes as I feel they swamp me and I feel less confident in them. A set in sleeve suits me better than a dropped sleeve. By looking at garments and thinking what we like and don't like about them helps us to choose things that we will get lots of wear out of and feel good in. Hair style can make a difference too I.e hair up or hair down. Like your comment about latest trends too - we don't have to follow them. Let's be ourselves. Xx
