I've got the Xperia 1 And I'll have to say that the battery is very bad, the camera is not the best but it's okay. But I like it cause the 21:9 screen it's just amazing
i actually upgraded to Xperia 1 from an XZ2 ! this is the best upgrade i did in my life. Now the XZ2 feels like it's a small fat phone compared to the Xperia 1
had my Xperia 1 since early July 2019... absolutely love it... crammed full of cutting edge tech, and amazing features, the 21:9 4K OLED screen is just gorgeous and the phone performs brilliantly day to day... sure i still charge it pretty much around the same time every morning with normal use but sometimes get close to 2 days battery with light use... the video recording at 1080p 60fps is gorgeous and colour reproduction is excellent... the dedicated gaming mode for the phone is a stroke of genius and i defo want this to continue with the Xperia 1 MK II... hopefully ill get to see that phone this summer! you are one of the few reviewers on RUclips who give honest Sony Xperia reviews... you can tell you are unbiased and just a guy who loves tech... all kinds of tech. wish is refreshing... i got tired of a large number of sellout tech youtubers who are clearly paid by Samsung or Apple to give good product reviews but the same guys always slate Sony smartphones for silliest things... anyways take care mate and look forward to your Xperia MK II hands on soon!
Dynamic Vibration is not a gimmick. Just leave it on minimum and in a week it will feel natural and using other phones will make you realise that you miss it.
@@TechSpurt Yeah it's subjective but for most content that I consume keeping it on lowest settings feels like a bass punch from a bigger speaker and I kinda like it. I felt awkward at beginning and the higher settings just feels like vibrations, but now I've been using XZ2 for a year. I like to have dynamic vibration on the next phone I buy.
i have had my Sony Xperia 1 since early July and its been stellar... superb phone with the best cameras i have seen on a smartphone... my best friend Nadeem has has the Samsung S10+ and even he will say the Xperia 1 camera is superior... personally i love the elegant tall and slim design... the Xperia 1 is simply a gorgeous phone and sits in the hang comfortably... it is feature packed with a blisteringly quick Snapdragon 855 CPU (8 core @ 2.84GHz) and a generous 6GB of fast RAM... the screen is stunning and at 6.51 inches @ 4K 1096 x 2560 pixels with a pixel density of 427 dpi... the build is superb with an alloy frame and front and back Gorilla Glass 6.0 bonded to it... it feels sturdy and has a nice weight in the hand... with something this good i will honestly probably use the Xperia 1 for more than two years... i cant recommend the Xperia 1 enough... i upgraded from a Sony XZ1 and prior to that i had the Sony Xperia Z5 and the Z1... and the Xperia S... im glad Sony didnt abandon the mobile market and they do make some of the best phones across all price points... but their market share is small... however those who buy Sony phones all know how good they are and how durable they are... i noticed potato princess's comment about how she has a Xperia Z the past 6 years... and thats impressive but it doesnt surprise me... Sony tech. is cutting edge and built to last... but i wanna thank Tech Spurt for being one of the few RUclipsrs without an anti Sony agenda... the Sony bashing we see from many reviewers gets old fast and its obvious they get freebies from Samsung and Apple hence their lack of unbiased coverage of Sony gear... anyways many thanks for the great vids and i did watch all your Xperia 1 vids before i got my upgrade sorted out... it only made my resolve stronger to get the Xperia 1... catch you on the flipside! :]

I have my xz premium for almost 2 years and still have close to 5 hours screen on time. The only thing that decreased the screen time was the upgrade from oreo to pie, which reduced the screen time by about an hour
*It could have opted for aluminum full body design because it does not have wireless charging. *Would like to see a 5x or 10x zoom camera. *Smal battery is a problem and I worry that over time battery degradation will hit the phone harder than competition. *Also no hi dac 3mm jack. *Better manual camera controls and more fps options in video. If they would have improved 3 of those points it would have been an absolute winner for me.

Did get mine at begining of June, and did daily drive it for few weeks. Sony did a solid device this time..:) And that 21:9 most say..you don´t notice or i dont need it...when you switch back after a while on Xperia 1 you notice..:) For me display and Camera is very solid, battery on 3330 i was not a big fan of when i heard about it....But have made it full day with no problem for my use. Did go back to my 7Pro even if Camera is not up there with s10+ or Xperia 1 the overall feeling is Top on 7Pro for me. If you like SOny you should 100% check Xperia 1 out, it´s a good and solid device.

I switched to Sony when I joined the fire dept 2002, back then everyone had Nokia. But the reason I changed is it was the only phone that lasted. No idea what they did, but from the beginning Sony was bombproof. I still have the XA1 ULTRA. I keep it as a just in case phone. But even in 2020 the Xperia 1 still holds up. Looking forward to mk2
Just got this. Had a few Sony phones and liked them. This though is tremendous! Screen is superb and the slimness of it is great in your hand. Feels like a true flagship phone

I've had mine for 2 weeks. It's good but I feel it's just missing something but can put my finger on it. The screen quality is brilliant and gaming on it is the best I've seen.
For me, it's the camera software. The hardware is probably the best on any smartphone right now but the software cannot make the most of it. The bokkeh is a bit disappointing, as well as the image stabilisation. The leaks for the new Xperia are pretty promising with that ToF sensor which would help loads for the bokkeh. It's a shame though. I was so excited for this phone and now there's leaks for a new, far better version only 2 months after we've got our hands on it. :(
@@user-su8xv8lr4s I have it too and the cameras themselves are the best but the software doesn't help it. Raw images, it's the best but if you're an amateur just trying to take some good looking pictures with ease, Samsung and Huawei are both better than this in my opinion, front and rear. Mostly because of the bokkeh for me. That being said, if you take time with your images and edit afterwards, this is the best you can do other than that Nokia with loads of lenses (though I haven't tried the Nokia so I can't be 100% certain).
This was 100% my next phone until I found out about ditching wireless charging. I NEVER charge my phone with a cable anymore and this is a huge fail imo.
I'm getting it mostly for the beautiful display, I will be watching movies on it, mostly when i'm traveling and at the office. It is nice to hear the camera is better then expected. I can't wait to get it. coming out friday (July 12) in the US.
I like the cinema aspect, I don't like that a lot of content and games will have the black bars, I'm not a massive fan of the fact that it has no headphone jack as it is sought as a media beast, also the 3300 MAh doesn't fill me with much confidence and i would've preferred if they didn't have that floating icon during games, quite off putting, I was tempted to get this phone due to the 4k screen but I think I might just resort to the One Plus 7 pro or the Samsung S10 Plus
This updated 21:9 display seems right up my alley. Since I'm a diehard Sony phone fan (own the Xperia Z1, Z3, & XZ) and my 2-3 year phone life span is about up I figured I would pre-ordered via Amazon. I lucked out and found a deal for the purple Xperia 1 including the latest edition (M3) of Sony's Bluetooth wireless noise cancelling headphones. These sweet headphones typically sell for about $350 so it's a pretty sweet deal. I own the first edition (M1) and they're great so I've decided this M3 set will be a gift for a friend.
Hey, I doubt the Xperia 2 will appear that soon - more likely to see another budget-friendly option, or a niche Premium style device. XZ3 is still very nice indeed, depends how much you like that new form factor etc
if you can pick Xperia 1, I recommend it to pick Xperia 1 as im using too right now. IFA seems sony will launch another Xperia but like sony's history before there also delay between announcement and pre order. I don't think Xperia xz3 will give big impression to xz1 user, imo. then again if your budget only can pick xz3 , its still great phone. ofcourse feel in display will different because xz3 have oled
The problem of the Xperia 2 may be, that it's just going to be a Lite-version of the Xperia 1. That's what disappoints me kind of a bit. I would also recommend to get the Xperia 1, if you've got the money for the device.
The XZ3 is a good device. I had it side by side with the 1, but I will stay with my forest green XZ3. Looks and feels nicer. Is way cheaper now and has wireless charging. Fuck that 21/9.. No need for it. And the camera is as good.. Even with 1 lens setup.

What Apps are you able to stream/watch 4K Content on? I have Netflix 4K UHD Package and I can only get HDR & 1080p Maximum same goes with Amazon Prime are both these optimised for 4K Through the App or do they Upscale to 4K?
I have the phone and these apps are upscaled. RUclips works at full 4K of course, but aside from this you'd need to find native 4K 21:9 content to really enjoy the full experience 👍

Great review, and will be upgrading next week to the Xperia 1! Just £2.00/month more than I pay for an old huwawei phone now lol! What is not to like about this beautiful phone? No headphone jack? Great review! However I would have liked if you had spoken about the speakers. I've definitely been tempted by the Xperia 1 but the lack of the headphone jack is definitely a bummer for me, specially when the cheaper Xperia 10 and 10 plus have it, which doesn't make much sense to my simple consumer brain cells but definitely smell like a business strategy I'm not very fond of. :/
Have this phone for about 6 months now and I f'n luv it!! The battery is good and seems like to last even longer if you switch to a dark background.. also supper snappy, when you're scrolling through instagram pics just loads right away.. I've gotten used to the size now, was kinda too big at first.. call quality is crystal clear and so is the 4k display.. still haven't quite figured out the camera yet. Not the best in darks or low lights. I think samsung wins that category.

Still using XZ Premium, no issues with it, still looking new and functioning perfectly. But I am due for an upgrade, don't know if should go for this or wait for its successor. Maybe it will have better camera, especially low light and bigger battery. I have no issues with no headphone jack.
Undeniably the best screen on the market. Everything else, not so much. I switched from xz premium to s10 plus 10 days ago and I have been so pleased. Everything is a massive upgade. And still have a headphone jack.
I was on XZ premium which was great but the Xperia 1 is even better in all aspect, screen, ratio, camera (natural, not over saturated as many phones) etc. Another superb phone from Sony!
So far I really like the xperia 1 but there are still room for improvement like stereo speakers quality, point and shoot camera, low light camera and battery life as well. The camera is actually okay, not as bad as previous generation but it stands no chance against the galaxy s10, pixel 3 XL or huawei p30 pro. The speakers sound very good, but it's still tiny considering this is a 2019 flagship from a company that makes some of the best headphones and speakers out there. Battery life is about 4 - 4.5 hours of screen on time which is average for that price range. Also the screen is still running at 1080p most of the time and not 4K. There is no option for you to switch to 2K or 4K if you want to enjoy the 4K resolution at all the time. Other than prime video and netflix, I can't find any content that support the 21:9 aspect ratio for the xperia 1. Most of youtube videos are either 16:9 or 18:9 so when you watch it in a 21:9 there are black bars on both side and if you zoom it, it crops out a lot which is horrible. With that price tag, it's still a disappointment from Sony since it can't compete with other flagships in the same price range. I'm gonna give Sony one more chance when the Xperia 2 releases, but if they don't improve these flaws then i'm going to pass and I think a lot of customers will also pass as well. The biggest problem is that Sony fans don't accept the fact that the xperia 1 has flaws that should not be in 2019 with a price tag of $949. Rather than giving a free wireless headphone Sony could have knocked the price down to $700 and it would have made a good deal for a lot of people. But well Sony is tubborn like always
We have serious problem guys with our Xperia1... According to the official specification telephoto 52mm lense supposed to have F2.4 aperture value. I bought this phone mainly for this telephoto camera and its high aperture for outdoor daylights portraits to capture shallow depth of field. I noticed that something is wrong with the overexposed pictures and blurr. Then I checked the detailed description of the taken photos... Xperia1 52mm telephoto lense has aperture of F1.6!!! What now? This is serious for the quality brand and product which cost me more than 1000$.

Don't know if you know this but the Oneplus6t has all the audio codecs, also LDAC and best effort. Just open the developer options and there are very, very many Bluetooth codecs and bit rate options in there.

Huge black bars on either sides while watching non-21:9 content, which is mostly what I watch on my phone, RUclips and TV Shows, might be distracting. Also, the 6GB RAM on Android in mid-2019 seems a bit backwards to me, on most days 6GBs should be enough but considering this phone is a beast in performance, it can handle a lot more multi-tasking than 6GB RAM allows.

Raw images, it's the best but if you're an amateur just trying to take some good looking pictures with ease, Samsung and Huawei are both better than this in my opinion, front and rear. Mostly because of the bokkeh for me. That being said, if you take time with your images and edit afterwards, this is the best you can do other than that Nokia with loads of lenses (though I haven't tried the Nokia so I can't be 100% certain).

I'm getting it mostly for the beautiful display, I will be watching movies on it, mostly when i'm traveling and at the office. It is nice to hear the camera is better then expected. I can't wait to get it. coming out friday (July 12) in the US.
I like the cinema aspect, I don't like that a lot of content and games will have the black bars, I'm not a massive fan of the fact that it has no headphone jack as it is sought as a media beast, also the 3300 MAh doesn't fill me with much confidence and i would've preferred if they didn't have that floating icon during games, quite off putting, I was tempted to get this phone due to the 4k screen but I think I might just resort to the One Plus 7 pro or the Samsung S10 Plus

This updated 21:9 display seems right up my alley. Since I'm a diehard Sony phone fan (own the Xperia Z1, Z3, & XZ) and my 2-3 year phone life span is about up I figured I would pre-ordered via Amazon.
I lucked out and found a deal for the purple Xperia 1 including the latest edition (M3) of Sony's Bluetooth wireless noise cancelling headphones. These sweet headphones typically sell for about $350 so it's a pretty sweet deal. I own the first edition (M1) and they're great so I've decided this M3 set will be a gift for a friend.

Hey, I doubt the Xperia 2 will appear that soon - more likely to see another budget-friendly option, or a niche Premium style device. XZ3 is still very nice indeed, depends how much you like that new form factor etc
if you can pick Xperia 1, I recommend it to pick Xperia 1 as im using too right now. IFA seems sony will launch another Xperia but like sony's history before there also delay between announcement and pre order.
I don't think Xperia xz3 will give big impression to xz1 user, imo. then again if your budget only can pick xz3 , its still great phone. ofcourse feel in display will different because xz3 have oled
The problem of the Xperia 2 may be, that it's just going to be a Lite-version of the Xperia 1.
That's what disappoints me kind of a bit.
I would also recommend to get the Xperia 1, if you've got the money for the device.
The XZ3 is a good device. I had it side by side with the 1, but I will stay with my forest green XZ3. Looks and feels nicer. Is way cheaper now and has wireless charging. Fuck that 21/9.. No need for it. And the camera is as good.. Even with 1 lens setup.

What Apps are you able to stream/watch 4K Content on? I have Netflix 4K UHD Package and I can only get HDR & 1080p Maximum same goes with Amazon Prime are both these optimised for 4K Through the App or do they Upscale to 4K?
I have the phone and these apps are upscaled. RUclips works at full 4K of course, but aside from this you'd need to find native 4K 21:9 content to really enjoy the full experience 👍

Great review, and will be upgrading next week to the Xperia 1! Just £2.00/month more than I pay for an old huwawei phone now lol! What is not to like about this beautiful phone? No headphone jack? Blue tooth fine here! Always nice to have a bigger and better screen when you get old and struggle with small print!

I've definitely been tempted by the Xperia 1 but the lack of the headphone jack is definitely a bummer for me, specially when the cheaper Xperia 10 and 10 plus have it, which doesn't make much sense to my simple consumer brain cells but definitely smell like a business strategy I'm not very fond of. :/
Have this phone for about 6 months now and I f'n luv it!! The battery is good and seems like to last even longer if you switch to a dark background.. also supper snappy, when you're scrolling through instagram pics just loads right away.. I've gotten used to the size now, was kinda too big at first.. call quality is crystal clear and so is the 4k display.. still haven't quite figured out the camera yet. Not the best in darks or low lights. I think samsung wins that category.
It has a face recognition. Just move to settings - lock screen&security - smart lock - re-enter your PIN/password and tap trusted face.
Can't justify the price tag in a world with the One Plus 7 Pro.

Still using XZ Premium, no issues with it, still looking new and functioning perfectly. But I am due for an upgrade, don't know if should go for this or wait for its successor. Maybe it will have better camera, especially low light and bigger battery. I have no issues with no headphone jack.

Undeniably the best screen on the market. Everything else, not so much. I switched from xz premium to s10 plus 10 days ago and I have been so pleased. Everything is a massive upgade. And still have a headphone jack.
I was on XZ premium which was great but the Xperia 1 is even better in all aspect, screen, ratio, camera (natural, not over saturated as many phones) etc.

So far I really like the xperia 1 but there are still room for improvement like stereo speakers quality, point and shoot camera, low light camera and battery life as well. The camera is actually okay, not as bad as previous generation but it stands no chance against the galaxy s10, pixel 3 XL or huawei p30 pro. The speakers sound very good, but it's still tiny considering this is a 2019 flagship from a company that makes some of the best headphones and speakers out there. Battery life is about 4 - 4.5 hours of screen on time which is average for that price range. Also the screen is still running at 1080p most of the time and not 4K. There is no option for you to switch to 2K or 4K if you want to enjoy the 4K resolution at all the time. Other than prime video and netflix, I can't find any content that support the 21:9 aspect ratio for the xperia 1. Most of youtube videos are either 16:9 or 18:9 so when you watch it in a 21:9 there are black bars on both side and if you zoom it, it crops out a lot which is horrible. With that price tag, it's still a disappointment from Sony since it can't compete with other flagships in the same price range. I'm gonna give Sony one more chance when the Xperia 2 releases, but if they don't improve these flaws then i'm going to pass and I think a lot of customers will also pass as well. The biggest problem is that Sony fans don't accept the fact that the xperia 1 has flaws that should not be in 2019 with a price tag of $949. Rather than giving a free wireless headphone Sony could have knocked the price down to $700 and it would have made a good deal for a lot of people. But well Sony is tubborn like always

According to the official specification telephoto 52mm lense supposed to have F2.4 aperture value.
I bought this phone mainly for this telephoto camera and its high aperture for outdoor daylights portraits to capture shallow depth of field. I noticed that something is wrong with the overexposed pictures and blurr.
Then I checked the detailed description of the taken photos...
Xperia1 52mm telephoto lense has aperture of F1.6!!!
What now? This is serious for the quality brand and product which cost me more than 1000$.

Don't know if you know this but the Oneplus6t has all the audio codecs, also LDAC and best effort. Just open the developer options and there are very, very many Bluetooth codecs and bit rate options in there.
It's just a shame that it doesn't have a great DAC for wired headphones.

Huge black bars on either sides while watching non-21:9 content, which is mostly what I watch on my phone, RUclips and TV Shows, might be distracting. Also, the 6GB RAM on Android in mid-2019 seems a bit backwards to me, on most days 6GBs should be enough but considering this phone is a beast in performance, it can handle a lot more multi-tasking than 6GB RAM allows.
