They are incredibly durable phones. My 6 year old Xperia T just had it's FIRST major break, and that's when one of it's microphones stopped working. On the other hand, my mother's Samsung J(something) broke it's mic for the second time in less than two years.

I have a very well trained eye, and to me the difference between 4k and 1080p isn't blatant/prominent on a 40 inch TV. 4k on a phone screen is completely useless
I don't get these people that comment just to hate on Sony. The mobile industry is already such a boring monopoly as is, don't put down the underdog. Competition and innovation are exciting. If you're not interested purely because it's a Sony, don't waste your time watching the video.

And that black border when playing games and movies are expected as the very tall profile. And the design itself...I don't know man, is the design really looking good for you? despite the uniqueness of the tall screen and seems better for multitasking. Let's see if this formula is actually working or not. If you ask me...there's no things such "copycat" in smartphone industry, who knows if this design would be success and other brands make the same phone with similar aspect ratio, or at least with better design, I think that would be a good second thought. I'm not really satisfied with xperia 1. And for side note, I do not like notch trend at all, that pop up camera etc etc... I'm using s10+ (it has pill shape cut out, but oh well 😅 I know I hate it too, I'm fine as I so often change my daily driver tho). i bought mine a year about a year ago and it still blows me away how amazing this phone is. i don't think i could ever go back to sony or any other brand again after this, it's just perfect. i never understood people complaining about the bezels, having no bezels not only makes it look ugly, but i would imagine you would get a lot more accidental screen presses. i think this phone has the perfect size bezels and i would never want a phone without bezels. i just hope sony doesn't jump onto this stupid trend of no bezels and notches and all that other hideous crap phone manufacturers are doing now. it's like people won't be happy until they somehow create a phone that is nothing but screen, no bezels, not even a back, just a thin little flimsy screen you hold.
One of the classiest phones I've seen this year. Something about that phones makes it feel very elegant and timeless. Would definitely grab one if they launch it in the US.
Why do you want to look at a ugly lens hole in a screen if you just watch some movies like me everyday on my phone? She is complaining about the side black bars if you are looking to videos with 16:9. But at a phone with a stupid notch if you squeez the movies you see also the side black bars. So whats the problem with the new screen ratio. It is better then a ugly notch thats no make sense.
@@RRrafraj look i hate the notch so much but i have a samsung note 9 and trust me, the big thick black bars on the side are SO ANNOYING. they are just irritating more than the notch because the notch is just a small dot but the bars on the side are extremely big and annoying. I'm not defending the notch by the way.
Yeah with the mobile screen shift away from 16 9 it'll be ugly bars on the screen while watching most content unless you zoom, phones are just getting longer and narrower which doesn't help while watching 90 percent of videos

@@_Nosferatu_ Yeah I watched it. Just like his other videos where he always words and favours Samsung over anything else. Some of the pictures he compared don't even look like the same one, the lightbulb picture for example. It's almost like he didn't even the bulb on when he took the Samsung picture to try and make it look like Sony is "washed out". I even went and took a picture of a lightbulb in similar lighting on my S10 and it looks terrible, maybe he is a better photographer than me 🤷♂️ I like my Samsung but I know a biased/paid reviewer when I see one.
Not one mention or demonstration of the Cinema Pro app. The whole concept of the phone is built with filmmakers and content watchers in mind. Why not expand on that idea in the review?
I'm definitely a fan boy since all my older phones are from Xperia or ericsson. But this time I'm getting the K20 pro over this simply because of the lack of headphone jack.
@@borischan5252 I'm just getting the Pixel 3a over the Xperia 1 because of the headphone jack, the better camera and even faster software updates than the flagship Xperia phones. But if the XZ3 would get the camera software of the Xperia 1 in the Android Q update, I would give it a go because my favourite brand in general is Sony because they make stunning, quality products.

Honestly, I still have my Xperia Z2 (not XZ2, Z2) which had the first 4K camera in a smartphone and it's still running like new. I bought it in 2014 I think. It doesn't have a finger print scanner (which I don't need anyways) and for the rest I feel like it can still keep up with newer phones. Camera is pretty good (all though not the best for night shots). I dropped it several times and except for some scratches it looks like new and works like new. I bet if I'd reset the phone it would work even better. Therefore I might buy this Xperia 1, just because I want a phone that can keep up for the next few years and be durable. Before my Xperia Z2 I had a Sony Ericcson Xperia which also was a great phone. SONY for the win!

Hmm... do GSMarena get it wrong here. She says that only when Apps support 4K it shows 4K like Netflix and so on. But Isnt this the only and first phone that actually shows 4K all the time? It aint doing as XZ premium, or XZ2 Premium or the Z5 Premium did before them, use 1080p for all use outside media usage. I do agree that side-sense is kinda bad on XZ3. But since it came on Xperia 10 and XPeria 1 models, its actually not that bad. I tried it myself in the store, and had no problems at all to wake it up. I think it has to be done right. I had my finger kinda more on the screen when I was activating the side-sense bar. All people that has problems with it, kinda do it the same way as you should on the xperia XZ3 on the curved edge. And to be honest. It doesnt work that good close to the edge. So nudge the finger a little more into the screen and it will really work just fine.
No, people that have the phone posted on reddit that it only displays 1096×2560 and then switches to 4k once you are viewing videos, photos, gaming, etc...and at the same time, upscales any content below 4k to 4k using the x1 chip. Basically, everywhere where you wouldn't need 4k....like reading an article, on the homescreen, in settings, etc...you get fhd+ and when you "consume" content, i.e. watch videos, pictures, play games...you get the full fat 4k with all the bells and whistles.
If the same phone was rebranded as IPhone or Samsung people would be like "Best Camera ever, Revolutionary Display etc etc.." Since it's a Sony, only thing people do is find problems with it.

Hello im from the future and Sony almost made the perfekt mid Range phone in the Sony Xperia 10 ii but they chosed to use a Snapdragon 600 Series Chip. But the Xperia 1 ii is a amazing flagship phone. Both are coming with 3.5 Headphone Jack :)
So from what I can see is that many of these short comings can taken care of with updates and patches...overall I like the device overall and wouldn't mind getting one

If you want to do something constructive, buy Sony phones and promote whatever great features they bring to the table.

I bought them because they're actually good, the updates come forth really fast, they're snappier even than iPhones (RUclips it) and their build quality is also great. I'm not saying other brands are bad, I've seen other phones and they seem good as well, I'm just saying that Sony is also good and that you shouldn't look at sales alone, go to your local shop and test them, don't just come out here with your absolutely biased opinion.
@Az Lean oof i couldn't help but call you out on that. 6Gb RAM is available even in the budget segment of android phones. Some Fagships are coming with more RAM. Though I must say that 6 GB is enough for the current processing power and stuff. But there are options available with more.
Felt totally biased, horrible review, undermined the great points of the phone, havent gone in depth about the features, skin colors are looking really good compared to other phones, the design is one of the best i have seen, gaming apps that put it on game mode, and much more. This was not a review disliked it.
They removed the front speaker to make bezels smaller. What now, want them to remove the IP rating to make it look like Oppo Find X design? Then you all will complain that is fragile and unwanted touches.

Everyone knows Xperia 1 has a professional level camera tech with professional level camera applications... I think the guys in GSMArena are pro's... So, why don't you guys try out the camera in pro mode and give people a comprehensive review... Not just these auto mode snapshots reviews.....
these perceptions has been there from the original Z series (Especially Z2), There's always conception said "Sony xperia is a pro camera, you have to be pro enough to use the full potential of it", but in other side, almost all reviewer never get in touch enogh with the so called pro mode, as a smartphone is supposed to be "practical", but other side of ppl would say, "Hey you, you are very lazy human if you think pro mode in xperia is finicky", blah blah blah... these circle and side of arguments is never stop, In my opinion, what makes sony fail is...they do not want to satisfied all, using sony is always has its ups and down. Like they never tried hard to be trend setter, something everyone would sold on Sony xperia. I'm using almost all their flagship in the past, and the camera experience is always been the same. You would (at least me) never 100% satisfied with it's camera. Xperia has great camera if you know how to do it, but the auto is just "oh my goodness" I can't live with xperia automode camera, Sony never impressed me for quick snap photo. Maybe it's better since xz2 xz3 I don't really know, It's just my excitement is not for xperia anymore. And xperia 1 is great, but obviously not for me too... hmm, better luck next time Sony, I guess

Sadly you forgot the main cinema-camera functionality of this phone called cinema pro. It is supposed to record 4k 21:9 footage that can be used by professionals.
@@SonyEnthusiast not straight. But between playing games and RUclips and general browsing it comes up to around 7 hrs over 24hrs and if you add taking pictures when you are travelling then no stamina mode or pie can save you if the battery capacity is less to begin with.

I don't know, there is something about their prices in india, it is always more than other countries. I am a big sony fan but their prices are to much. Last sony phone i got was xperia xzs. Xz2 was launched at insane price of 72k.
I prefer Note 9 over everything you mentioned 😁 but yeah Sony phones are some of the most underappreciated phones in the market, they come up with features first and someone else takes the credit and glory.

Lived with mine for a week now - the fingerprint reader on mine is 100% reliable, maybe you had a bad model. I've never contemplated using cameras on phones for anything more than a social media snap but they seem adequate. You may have fun trying to update Netflix, there is an issue, but if you disable the app and then run the update from an apk it should be fine.
She double tapping quickly the fingerprint scanner is not the correct way. Fingerprint scanner is to place the finger on it force some pressure to trigger it.
My last purchase of Sony phone products? Sony Miro - 2013 . Cheap smartphone. 😂😭😂 Before that I used K800i Cybershot with 3.2megapixel 🤣😂, K618i, Sony Walkman (my first smartphone), Sony J105i It served me for 4 years until dead. Not a smartphone. Still use MMS back 2012. Hahaha..

Tbh I think your being a bit of a Sony pony. The xperia 1 seems great but it lack some basic things like wireless charging, only has a 3330 mah battery, and the fingerprint sensor doesnt seem to be all great. But even with these drawbacks i do think this phone is amazing phone and in ways this phone is way ahead like the 21:9 ratio, 643 ppi, camera quality. Also the build quality looks phenomenal but for this phone being $1000/ flagship I do kind of expect a 4000 M ah battery wireless charging and a near perfect fingerprint scanner.like I said the phone looks a mazing but does not deserve to called the best phone ever.

Excellent phone, ok camera with flashes of brilliance, and a display that serves as the breadwinner. I like the aspect ratio, but the review showed it might not be optimized enough for some games at least. But when a media conforms to the ratio, xperia makes it shine more than any other phones. Today it's still not of great import but I like it. The black bars go away when you watch in the dark anyway. As usual thanks to gsmarena for reviewing xperias, always neat, quick, and insightful reviews.

It took two and a half years of dropping my Xperia X to crack the screen in a very bad fall. It's pretty epic how durable it was
I accidentally drop my xa ultra while riding a motorcycle and it only get dents on the back. Sony is durable.

And that black border when playing games and movies are expected as the very tall profile. And the design itself...I don't know man, is the design really looking good for you? despite the uniqueness of the tall screen and seems better for multitasking. Let's see if this formula is actually working or not. If you ask me...there's no things such "copycat" in smartphone industry, who knows if this design would be success and other brands make the same phone with similar aspect ratio, or at least with better design, I think that would be a good second thought. I'm not really satisfied with xperia 1. And for side note, I do not like notch trend at all, that pop up camera etc etc... I'm using s10+ (it has pill shape cut out, but oh well 😅 I know I hate it too, I'm fine as I so often change my daily driver tho). And btw, In my country, Xperia 1 is priced above 1300$ which is godamn pricey, I didn't see this price tag is justified enough tho

In the past, I used to be sony fan too, as I've used their original Z, z1,z2,z3,z5 premium (stopped at z5 prem tho) and never coming back to sony sadly, I still remembered that old days when I always rushed to bought the newest xperias. For me, Sony is really reserved for their die hard fans tho...outside them, sony is kinda hard to make people fall in love again (you know, marketing)

i bought mine a year about a year ago and it still blows me away how amazing this phone is. i don't think i could ever go back to sony or any other brand again after this, it's just perfect. i never understood people complaining about the bezels, having no bezels not only makes it look ugly, but i would imagine you would get a lot more accidental screen presses. i think this phone has the perfect size bezels and i would never want a phone without bezels. i just hope sony doesn't jump onto this stupid trend of no bezels and notches and all that other hideous crap phone manufacturers are doing now.
it's like people won't be happy until they somehow create a phone that is nothing but screen, no bezels, not even a back, just a thin little flimsy screen you hold.

Why do you want to look at a ugly lens hole in a screen if you just watch some movies like me everyday on my phone? She is complaining about the side black bars if you are looking to videos with 16:9.

Yeah with the mobile screen shift away from 16 9 it'll be ugly bars on the screen while watching most content unless you zoom, phones are just getting longer and narrower which doesn't help while watching 90 percent of videos

Some of the pictures he compared don't even look like the same one, the lightbulb picture for example. It's almost like he didn't even the bulb on when he took the Samsung picture to try and make it look like Sony is "washed out". I even went and took a picture of a lightbulb in similar lighting on my S10 and it looks terrible, maybe he is a better photographer than me 🤷♂️ I like my Samsung but I know a biased/paid reviewer when I see one.

But if the XZ3 would get the camera software of the Xperia 1 in the Android Q update, I would give it a go because my favourite brand in general is Sony because they make stunning, quality products.

Honestly, I still have my Xperia Z2 (not XZ2, Z2) which had the first 4K camera in a smartphone and it's still running like new. I bought it in 2014 I think. It doesn't have a finger print scanner (which I don't need anyways) and for the rest I feel like it can still keep up with newer phones. Camera is pretty good (all though not the best for night shots). I dropped it several times and except for some scratches it looks like new and works like new. I bet if I'd reset the phone it would work even better. Therefore I might buy this Xperia 1, just because I want a phone that can keep up for the next few years and be durable.
Before my Xperia Z2 I had a Sony Ericcson Xperia which also was a great phone.

Hmm... do GSMarena get it wrong here. She says that only when Apps support 4K it shows 4K like Netflix and so on. But Isnt this the only and first phone that actually shows 4K all the time? It aint doing as XZ premium, or XZ2 Premium or the Z5 Premium did before them, use 1080p for all use outside media usage.
I do agree that side-sense is kinda bad on XZ3. But since it came on Xperia 10 and XPeria 1 models, its actually not that bad. I tried it myself in the store, and had no problems at all to wake it up. I think it has to be done right. I had my finger kinda more on the screen when I was activating the side-sense bar. All people that has problems with it, kinda do it the same way as you should on the xperia XZ3 on the curved edge. And to be honest. It doesnt work that good close to the edge. So nudge the finger a little more into the screen and it will really work just fine.

No, people that have the phone posted on reddit that it only displays 1096×2560 and then switches to 4k once you are viewing videos, photos, gaming, etc...and at the same time, upscales any content below 4k to 4k using the x1 chip.
Basically, everywhere where you wouldn't need 4k....like reading an article, on the homescreen, in settings, etc...you get fhd+ and when you "consume" content, i.e. watch videos, pictures, play games...you get the full fat 4k with all the bells and whistles.
Funny cause the xz3 is 2k all the time.

Hello im from the future and Sony almost made the perfekt mid Range phone in the Sony Xperia 10 ii but they chosed to use a Snapdragon 600 Series Chip. But the Xperia 1 ii is a amazing flagship phone. Both are coming with 3.5 Headphone Jack :)
So from what I can see is that many of these short comings can taken care of with updates and patches...overall I like the device overall and wouldn't mind getting one

I've had the Z2, Z3, Z5, Z5 Premium, XZ, XZ Premium and for now the XZ3.
I bought them because they're actually good, the updates come forth really fast, they're snappier even than iPhones (RUclips it) and their build quality is also great.
I'm not saying other brands are bad, I've seen other phones and they seem good as well, I'm just saying that Sony is also good and that you shouldn't look at sales alone, go to your local shop and test them, don't just come out here with your absolutely biased opinion.

Though I must say that 6 GB is enough for the current processing power and stuff. But there are options available with more.

Felt totally biased, horrible review, undermined the great points of the phone, havent gone in depth about the features, skin colors are looking really good compared to other phones, the design is one of the best i have seen, gaming apps that put it on game mode, and much more. This was not a review disliked it.
She lost me at the audio, Sony Xperia offers the best audio experience on the market with DSEE HX upscaling and LDAC support.

Everyone knows Xperia 1 has a professional level camera tech with professional level camera applications... I think the guys in GSMArena are pro's... So, why don't you guys try out the camera in pro mode and give people a comprehensive review... Not just these auto mode snapshots reviews.....
these perceptions has been there from the original Z series (Especially Z2), There's always conception said "Sony xperia is a pro camera, you have to be pro enough to use the full potential of it", but in other side, almost all reviewer never get in touch enogh with the so called pro mode, as a smartphone is supposed to be "practical", but other side of ppl would say, "Hey you, you are very lazy human if you think pro mode in xperia is finicky", blah blah blah... these circle and side of arguments is never stop, In my opinion, what makes sony fail is...they do not want to satisfied all, using sony is always has its ups and down. Like they never tried hard to be trend setter, something everyone would sold on Sony xperia. I'm using almost all their flagship in the past, and the camera experience is always been the same. You would (at least me) never 100% satisfied with it's camera. Xperia has great camera if you know how to do it, but the auto is just "oh my goodness" I can't live with xperia automode camera, Sony never impressed me for quick snap photo. Maybe it's better since xz2 xz3 I don't really know, It's just my excitement is not for xperia anymore. And xperia 1 is great, but obviously not for me too... hmm, better luck next time Sony, I guess

Sadly you forgot the main cinema-camera functionality of this phone called cinema pro. It is supposed to record 4k 21:9 footage that can be used by professionals.

@@SonyEnthusiast not straight. But between playing games and RUclips and general browsing it comes up to around 7 hrs over 24hrs and if you add taking pictures when you are travelling then no stamina mode or pie can save you if the battery capacity is less to begin with.

Lived with mine for a week now - the fingerprint reader on mine is 100% reliable, maybe you had a bad model. I've never contemplated using cameras on phones for anything more than a social media snap but they seem adequate. You may have fun trying to update Netflix, there is an issue, but if you disable the app and then run the update from an apk it should be fine.
She double tapping quickly the fingerprint scanner is not the correct way. Fingerprint scanner is to place the finger on it force some pressure to trigger it.
My last purchase of Sony phone products? Sony Miro - 2013 . Cheap smartphone. 😂😭😂 Before that I used K800i Cybershot with 3.2megapixel 🤣😂, K618i, Sony Walkman (my first smartphone), Sony J105i It served me for 4 years until dead. Not a smartphone. Still use MMS back 2012. Hahaha..

Tbh I think your being a bit of a Sony pony.
The xperia 1 seems great but it lack some basic things like wireless charging, only has a 3330 mah battery, and the fingerprint sensor doesnt seem to be all great. But even with these drawbacks i do think this phone is amazing phone and in ways this phone is way ahead like the 21:9 ratio, 643 ppi, camera quality. Also the build quality looks phenomenal but for this phone being $1000/ flagship I do kind of expect a 4000 M ah battery wireless charging and a near perfect fingerprint scanner.like I said the phone looks a mazing but does not deserve to called the best phone ever.

@@bortanradu oh so you buy a 1000euros smartphone for a 3 dollar component like 3,5 Jack and for for 0,5 inch better screen to body with a punch hole, and for 2 extra GB of ram that you often don't use ,unless you keep 20+ apps running in the background, and for an under the display fingerprint that is the same fingerprint mounted on the side of the Sony, and fast 15W charging(Sony is 18W), reverse wireless charging (I want to see you use that and on what), a cheaper chipset made by themselves which is proven to be worse, a bigger battery because the amoled screen sucks more battery that the oled, so you buy a phone just to show your friends you have an under display fingerprint and other cool stuff, I get it....you are just like the other 🐑 around, good for you

Excellent phone, ok camera with flashes of brilliance, and a display that serves as the breadwinner. I like the aspect ratio, but the review showed it might not be optimized enough for some games at least. But when a media conforms to the ratio, xperia makes it shine more than any other phones. Today it's still not of great import but I like it. The black bars go away when you watch in the dark anyway. As usual thanks to gsmarena for reviewing xperias, always neat, quick, and insightful reviews.
