Sony Xperia died, because of no compromises of quality. Sony Qualia did that before that. People were not interested of buying $200 headphones or $300 music players or $1000 TV's. Now they are considered mid-price. It is hard to be ahead of your time. If iPhone 16 would have same specs it would cost way over $5000. iPhone cost about $150 to manufacture. Xperia 1VI costs three or four times of that.
@Akasha92now a company can't only rely on their "few fans" doesn't it? products aren't produce for fans only but to target new costumers as well... Sony devices used to top notch at the beginning of smartphones industry they had a gigantic market but as the competition arise Sony lost it's market... Now they lost it because of some reason isn't it?they don't build products for you or few fans my friend
Many of them did. But they removed it because they can now charge you monthly for cloud storage, or forcing you to buy more expensive model with high onboard storage. Smart companies.
The design is always clean, literally five different focal lengths in 3 cameras instead of most of the Chinese and Samsung phone drill cameras like crazy bee nests. But again, cameras are not for one click heavy post processing users. If you really dig into it to use it properly, the results are amazing. Also, I don't think the price is off because it offers the headphone jack and up 1tb sdcard storage, how much do we save that if we go up to buy a 512gb+ among the main stream flagships.
Thank you Sony for keeping the SD card, headphones jack, and large battery. I wish updates would be longer though. I just ordered one so I'll give sony a try. No more samsung for me, at least for now.
I used the Xperia 1 V in Australia and was really nice to use. The Xperia 1 VI will also work in Australia. The only issue is you will need to order from overseas market. It would be much better to buy if it was sold through local carriers. I moved to the S24 ultra and will move to the S25 ultra due to local availablity.
Does anyone know if this will work on the Telstra network (with VoLTE)? I have used Xperia phones for years now, and don't like the others. My old Xperia 5 won't work when 3G shuts down, so hoping this VI does!!
@@PlaceOfTheLamb I believe as long as you get the HK/TW/elsewhere version (rather than JP version), Telstra works for VoLTE. No VoWifi if that matters to you. There's a thread on Whirlpool about it with more info.
Sony have always been streets ahead of the competition. Apple copying with them with the iPhone 16 camera button. Samsung copying their design for the S25 Ultra.
wanna see a bug that Sony hasn't fixed since the first xperia? set double tap to wake on, prevent accidental operations on. lock the dislay and the phone. then cover the proximity sensor with something and double tap the screen, press ok if the "prevent accidental operations..." pops on screen and then drag down with the finger until the quick settings become accessible and touchable. yes, this happens in the pocket. I often get my 1 iv out of the pocket with the screen on, heated up, drained battery, in airplane mode or with bluetooth off, in emergency calls menu etc. it's horrible. but it doesn't end here. activate the AOD as always on and set off the double tap to wake. you will see that double tap to wake still works if the AOD in always on.
It could technically happen with my Oppo but the slide up to exit accidental touch mode is pretty safe. A single click button is easy to accidentally touch lol
Double tap to wake is useless for me. You can't carry your phone in the pocket without the screen turning on at some point. I turned this feature off completely and AOD as well. If I have notifications they will come on my watch. I use s23 btw so this Sony bug will not bother me if I had one.
My Xperia 1 III tend to become stuck with a black unresponsive screen until you do a force reset (holding volume and power button), sometimes even during the night when you expect it to wake you up with an alarm at the morning, and it just decides to die instead. It's pretty rare, and I can't even understand what makes it do that. It feels like using the camera too much increases the chances of it to happen.
I actually love the way the photos look! These days you can tell when a photo has been taken by a phone because of all the AI processing, Sony’s ones look like they were taken with a professional camera 👏
The 1 VI is my first Sony phone in a very long time. I'm very impressed. I bought it as a camera phone to use alongside my Z Fold 6 but its quickly becoming my favourite. The sensors are excellent and that macro mode is superb.
I love my Sony. Insane battery life, 3.5mm headphone socket, SD card slot and more. However, you're incorrect about battery optimisation and Apple only being iOS 18 (timestamp 4m50). Apple introduced battery charging limits with iOS 13 (2019) and subsequent tweaks, unless you don't mean battery optimisation.I used it all the time when I switched from android to the iPhone 15 pro max as I could never kill the battery in one day. I agree with you about updates. The EU should require a minimum of 5 years. And Sony should be out there ahead of this.
I'm a Sony fan for a long time. Can't beat the build quality and always stands out from the crowd. I have an Xperia 1 IV with the 4k display , it's 3 year's old and it's in a top notch condition, and still better specs than the latest iPhone

Ai, Updates, cool features, are all made to find new ways to keep your personal data and other countrys data under control. Sony seems to have broken out of that chain. Which is the best thing.
Love this comment. Have to appreciate Sony's robust but elegant design. Everything about their phones is aimed at the purist/enthusiast. Their cameras prioritize raw photography and compatibility with a full size sensor. They will sacrifice trendy design to make sure they have good stereo speakers. I may just have to get one
Great video as always!. I can definitely get 2 days of battery life easily, no matter what the use case is. As for the brightness, this ''sunlight mode'' that Sony advertises, easily outperforms the likes of Samsung, Apple and Honor Magic 6 Pro. it's the brightest and most readable screen of all (Bravia engine works wonders i guess) Yes- too bad they only give 3 software updates.

Audio Quality: Just great, excellent balance and many configurations to match your preference Screen quality: In my experience, it beats every flagship in terms of brightness. Also note that it keeps brightness high all the time. Other phones usually dial down max brightness after a while to sustain performance. Photography: not the best, but still quite good. It suffers a bit in low light, but a software update may fix this. Performance: fluid and snappy, no lags, no heating issues whatsoever. Battery: Unreal run times. I have managed 3 days use, 9.5hrs SOT, with dark mode on. Haptics: strong for notifications, a bit mushy when typing (you need to keep it just a hair before max haptic feedback to get the best it offers). Price: overpriced, no doubt abt that. Updates: 3 years is a bummer.
@@b2bgood870 Anyone can steal a phone too 😅 You can encrypt the card if you are worried about that. All data storage methods can fail. It’s infinitely better to have the option to have cheap expandable storage than not. What would you prefer? Only the option to have expensive cloud storage? An SD equipped phone can also have this. Also having an SD equipped phone means manufacturers can’t charge so much more for a little more internal storage.
I have mixed feelings for updates because I personally don’t consider any updates except security ones needy, I even get annoyed by the system update when some things change unnecessarily like a notification center. And as far as charging is concerned, it really isn’t porblem when you’re not thinking about charging for two days, now, if you’re referring to a charger in the box, that’s a bit of a tragedy.
@@DejanDobrilovićWell my current Android is 6 years old but I have to switch now as tje sw updates has stopped making apps no longer working. (Huawei Mate 10 PRO) My best phone ever and I have had most brands.
6:50 And that's the way to go. A real flagship phone should capture the most realistic, most detailed photo from a smartphone possible, down to the intrinsic colors of the subjects, not dialing the saturation to 11. Same for video, I cherish phones that record video with a constant exposure, just like in the real world. Constant white balance, stabilization, name it. That is a true flagship in my book.
The beauty of Sony always takes my breath away. It's a good phone and love how they stick to just being Sony. Thank you for the review Ps if you don't want to use that phone send me a message 😅
Xperia 5 III user here, with Sony phone camera's they want you to experiment and see what you like, thats the point you have to understand. Most people just take pics to upload on social media.
3.5 mm jack and sd card slot with IP68! That battery life with the best camera set up in a beautiful sleek design! Sony has so many plus points that it's competitors lack. If only there was better service, software support and reasonable price! All of these are fixable issues and could be solved easily if Sony became serious about their phones
I just bought the 1 VI and (coming from an iPhone) it's absolutely ridiculous! It's sharp, fast and feels so much better in your hands with this textured back. I hate those slippery glas-to-glas-builds almost every other company does. The camera button is awesome and the headphone jack is top notch!
I like that the phone is different to the others currently in the marketplace, the battery life especially, but I simply cannot stomach 1.400EUR for the phone.
I wish it was officially available in the US, I'm still thinking about importing one though. Seems like a great option. I really think we are getting screwed as consumers by these companies not providing MicroSD card slots anymore. They want everyone paying a cloud subscription.
I bought this model, and I can confirm everything said in the review is spot on. There is simply no other phone like it, and I wouldn't buy anything else, even if it was twice the price. The camera is good, but really shines with the manual/pro mode as you can adjust ISO, shutter speed etc. The battery really does last me 2-3 days, I don't know how they've managed to make it so efficient especially with the brighter screen compared to last gen. The headphone jack and SD card reader are a must-have, and I wouldn't buy a phone without them. One thing to note about the software support is that the bootloader can be unlocked, so new software (such as LineageOS) can be upgraded even after sony stops releasing updates. For example, my old xperia 1 III is running LineageOS and is fully up to date with android 14, and will even receive an upgrade to android 15 in the future, even though sony stopped support at android 13.
How's the selfie camera quality? Everyone has been going gaga over the back camera but not much about selfie camera. Is it bad? I wanted to know about a dual recording. Is it available??
@@mayanksingh12 The selfie camera is decent, not quite as good as the rear camera but more than adequate for selfies. Just make sure you disable the 'soft skin effect' in the menu first. I don't think the standard camera app has a dual recording function, but maybe there's a third-party app you can use?
Gor the Xperia 1vi, it's fantastic. Audio quality is superb on wireless, wired (3.5mm headphone socket) amd speakers. SD card slot -using 512gb card. Handy for hires compressed audio and makes large data transfers easy. Screen, feel in the hand, battery life - this is a fantastic phone and I've sold my Samsung ultra and iPhone 15 pro. The camera experience is more enjoyable and exciting than my previous phones. And it cost less! If you're into audio and photography and want a top notch smartphone, with more flexibility than most, this is an easy choice.
Finally a really balanced and in depth review , I tried the vi but hated it initially , yes it was that disappointing to me , especially as Sony removed the music haptics which in my opinion enhanced content watching so much WHY SONY WHY ?? they have done things like that before of course .. notification light anyone ??? I honestly liked the former form factor and 4k screen of the 1v but I have to say the vi has now got an insane battery life which is important. So , after sending back my vi I tried another manufacturers phone and whilst it was ok I have to say I missed Sony . I missed the shutter button ( although the iPhone will copy that feature this year ... I missed the understated design of the Sony ... I missed the natural looking photos although I admit they did take some getting used to after using a saturated Samsung . Natural is best ! Therefore I am sending back my current android and I am rebuying the Sony 1vi . Despite the rather inept withdrawing of imo niche but great features Sony remains a brilliant manufacturer of smart phones . Hope this helps people on the fence of whether to buy or not . Believe me as someone who has tried most mainstream devices , you won't go too far wrong with this phone .BUT SONY , REINTRODUCE THE HAPTICS FOR MUSIC/CONTENT ... You already have the code for it , make it make it so in a software update !!!!!!

Was a super Xperia fan a few years ago, had 5/6 in a row. Then switched to Huawei ( also about 5/6 phones ), now on Oppo. Would come back to Sony if they did an Ultra again, LOVED that huge screen and 6.5mm "thick"ness...
The only thing I'm not really a fan of and why I jumped ship was that the camera module makes it difficult to use filters. He mentions other brands like Vivo and Xiaomi with the massive camera humps...but I love that because those are able to use adapters and normal external filters...
Only downside of this device for me is the side mounted sensor. I had multiple problems with the last version with it being locked out and activated in my pocket. Don't mind the downgrade in screen resolution as 4k was very rarely activated but I think 2k would be the sweet spot. I think most people want a really strong battery and get through the day no matter what buy let's be real, most people put on charge when they go to bed.
As a lifelong Sony user starting from Xperia Arc to 1 Mark VI, Sony is pretty much underrated and under the radar. Only those in the know appreciate its quality and features. I can't think any better phone than this.
Sony is a mammoth of a brand name. Bringing you a gorgeous phone that cost way too much! That's the problem. I bet you anything. If they did a two-tier spec and price difference they would make a more impact here in America. Bring it Sony!!!
They do also have AI-based image processing depending on the mode you're using for the camera. I heard they were implementing it for videos as well about now, but I haven't done further research. Either way, camera quality is one of the biggest concerns for me with smartphones, so this one is a no-brainer. I ordered one to a local phone store and can't wait to pick it up!
I agree with the pros and cons. I have had the Mark V and now the Mark VI. I loved the design intentions of the Mark V with the true widescreen ratio and 4K display. I also think the photography on the main camera of the Mark V is better, probably due to software. The new Mark VI has an unfinished camera app and is missing the three dedicated pro apps from the V...Photo Pro Video Pro and Cinematography Pro which gave the same menu systems as Sony's Alpha, Video and Cinematography camera lines. You could learn how to use an unobtainable camera that costs as much as a house by learning to use Cinematography Pro. I do hope those apps make it to the Mark VI with the promised August Firmware update. That will be the finished version of the Mark VI. The Mark VI will get better and better. I adore the new Macro camera on the Zoom lens...a true Macro. A little tricky to use, but when it wins it wins big.
I Love & Respect Sony Xperia V1 For The Technical Resons...... It's An Extraordinary..... But The Huawei P 60 Ultra With " Ximage " Truly Game Changers In The Every Technical Aspects..... 👍
I like that the Xperia is an amalgamation of all their tech rather than another "better iPhone". As good as the hardware of the Chinese brands are, it's still facing the same iPhone clone mentality that was adopted in the earlier days of Android. I hope they could at least compete in some aspect of their hardware. Bigger sensor next year maybe 😂.
@brownwallet942 That's old now. Nobody uses wired headphones anymore, and for several reasons, not just because most smartphone manufacturers removed the headphone jack.

I have bought a SONY Xperia ever since the first one. Always a flagship only for the headphone jack and sd card feature. Great review.
Sony xperia died because of high price.
Yeah, go buy iPhone 69 pro Max at 199999 rs.

I love the design and features like zoom, HP jack and SD card.
Also, great review!
All phones should have an SD card slot
Many of them did. But they removed it because they can now charge you monthly for cloud storage, or forcing you to buy more expensive model with high onboard storage. Smart companies.

God bless you for this review. Been a sunny fan for over 16 years now and I'm definitely getting this one 🔥♥️
Not sunny its cloudy
No more samsung for me, at least for now.
they have a tendency to deliver updates for old devices longer than the minimum 3 to 4 years that they promise for.
@Matt-ne6de Well so far i love mine! Its everything i hoped for
I have the Xperia ZL and the phone still looks fresh even though the design is called 'boring'. Sometimes boring is timeless.
I wish Sony Xperia phones were still officially available in Australia. This looks like a very good one, even though it's a bit too big for me.
Bro there is 5v ... It still good for compact phone
@@PlaceOfTheLamb the Xperia 1 VI works on Telstra it you get the correct model
@@PlaceOfTheLamb I believe as long as you get the HK/TW/elsewhere version (rather than JP version), Telstra works for VoLTE. No VoWifi if that matters to you. There's a thread on Whirlpool about it with more info.
Sony have always been streets ahead of the competition. Apple copying with them with the iPhone 16 camera button. Samsung copying their design for the S25 Ultra.
No. Huawei have. Sony is so behind it is crazy.

wanna see a bug that Sony hasn't fixed since the first xperia?
set double tap to wake on, prevent accidental operations on. lock the dislay and the phone. then cover the proximity sensor with something and double tap the screen, press ok if the "prevent accidental operations..." pops on screen and then drag down with the finger until the quick settings become accessible and touchable. yes, this happens in the pocket.
It’s terrible 😢
Wanna see how horrible sony was, after 10 years+ basic features like internet speed meter on top notification isn't available 😂
I love the notchless display.
I just wish they had 5-6 years of security updates. Would buy for sure.
I'm a Sony fan for a long time.
Can't beat the build quality and always stands out from the crowd.
I have an Xperia 1 IV with the 4k display , it's 3 year's old and it's in a top notch condition, and still better specs than the latest iPhone
OMG yes. The phone we have been looking for. Sony is here baby.
best review of any device i watched ever, bro keep it up. you are doing so well than those having million subscribers but thay still dont give honest reviews bcz they charge money from phone companies.
Ai, Updates, cool features, are all made to find new ways to keep your personal data and other countrys data under control. Sony seems to have broken out of that chain. Which is the best thing.
LMAO Smartphones are just a tool to get you personal data.
It's different from the rest, I love!
Okay, I’m in love with Sony now. OMG
As for the brightness, this ''sunlight mode'' that Sony advertises, easily outperforms the likes of Samsung, Apple and Honor Magic 6 Pro.
it's the brightest and most readable screen of all (Bravia engine works wonders i guess)
Yes- too bad they only give 3 software updates.
Does it have any heating issues?
No heating issues at all. Living in Greece with the hot weather and the Xperia not getting hot even in full load, you can call it a success.

@@ajithraju8384 lets sum things up:
Call Quaility: Hands down, the best out there. Clear, loud and punchy.
Audio Quality: Just great, excellent balance and many configurations to match your preference
Screen quality: In my experience, it beats every flagship in terms of brightness.
Sony is a brand. Love from INDIA to SONY. Hope in future they will back in India to sell their smartphones.
A Micro SD card slot is such a win for the consumer. I hope more manufacturers start pushing this. Have you seen how much Apple charges for storage!
SD cards break ... and anyone can steal them out of the phone
Beautifully explained and in very better understanding manner
Just looking on my Xperia1VI, thanks for your aspect ratio and your thoughts. 😊
The only issues here are the software updates and the lack of a charger. But everything else is very promising
I hope this design doesn't fade away until I can afford to buy one.
The beauty of Sony always takes my breath away. It's a good phone and love how they stick to just being Sony. Thank you for the review
Ps if you don't want to use that phone send me a message 😅
Xperia 5 III user here, with Sony phone camera's they want you to experiment and see what you like, thats the point you have to understand. Most people just take pics to upload on social media.
3.5 mm jack and sd card slot with IP68! That battery life with the best camera set up in a beautiful sleek design!
Sony has so many plus points that it's competitors lack. If only there was better service, software support and reasonable price!
All of these are fixable issues and could be solved easily if Sony became serious about their phones
Only thing it is missing from the "good old features" is a notification LED.
If I wasnt so attached to having a stylus, Xperia would be my daily no questions asked.

I am on my 4th Sony phone in a row. Get the newest one every 3 years.
Only 900 euros in Asia
Agree. this phone is mid range. not high end.
Wow....thks for a great vid. Ur the only video tht utilised my phone's fully screen without need to zoom in. Thks
That's a nice touch, I was trying to adjust the zoom 😂

No, samsung also make their own camera sensors

You already have the code for it , make it make it so in a software update !!!!!!
how are you returning phones regularly? Are your consumer protection laws that good where you live or do you have a special insurance or something?

This device's back looks so much better than others
Was a super Xperia fan a few years ago, had 5/6 in a row. Then switched to Huawei ( also about 5/6 phones ), now on Oppo. Would come back to Sony if they did an Ultra again, LOVED that huge screen and 6.5mm "thick"ness...
that battery feature is great hope other phone company do this too.
They do 👍 my old s10e has it
The only thing I'm not really a fan of and why I jumped ship was that the camera module makes it difficult to use filters. He mentions other brands like Vivo and Xiaomi with the massive camera humps...but I love that because those are able to use adapters and normal external filters...
Love the headphone jack & sd card slot.. Ppl should go for sony..
I wish they market this phone in America. Quality is amazing been wanting one for a long time.
There's a setting to fix the accidental fingerprint activation.
As a lifelong Sony user starting from Xperia Arc to 1 Mark VI, Sony is pretty much underrated and under the radar. Only those in the know appreciate its quality and features. I can't think any better phone than this.
3:57 Love the brutal honesty. It had me laughing!
This is my end goal phone. Sony Xperia 1 V as well. The only cons is the price which is why it remains as my dream phone.
The sd card is a HUGE benefit
I love sony phones, especially for watching movies. Love the dedicated shutter button also.
There was a time when Sony and Nokia were the kings of indian market , now the presence of both of them is nowhere in indian market.
Sony is a mammoth of a brand name. Bringing you a gorgeous phone that cost way too much! That's the problem. I bet you anything. If they did a two-tier spec and price difference they would make a more impact here in America. Bring it Sony!!!
3 years android upgrade is fineif it is Android 15. You buy it now and 3 months later it is already the first upgrade when Android 15 comes out.

I wish this design would be back. No stupid camera cut hole or notch.
Sony not available in UAE. How to get this phone in UAE? I love Sony Xperia
Ship it, you probably have zero taxes. Make sure it's unlocked.
A little tricky to use, but when it wins it wins big.
why do you buy a new phone every year? thats totally unnecessary!
How can I get this phone or buy actually am using Xperia xz3 now i want to change
