One of the major reasons I bought the Sony Xperia XZ Premium in 2017 was for the 4k resolution and at that time, especially, since there wasn't hardly any 4k content available, it turned out to that nearly everything was in 1080p format instead. In Japan now (Hachioji), did you know there's a 16GB ram version? 😮😮😮 I'll be going to SONY HQ next week and I may be getting it and returning my 12GB version.
Excellent review. Love my Sony. Audio with 3.5mm headphone socket and sd card slot is perfect for me. And battery life is double the pixel 8a. And I love the FPS on the side.
The switch to the typical aspect ratio is what really discouraged me. I don't really mind the switch to 1080p but I loved the 21:9 aspect ratio of the previous one and it made it easier to hold with one hand despite being a large phone. I just hate how phones are getting wider and feeling like a brick.
So lame that Sony's not offering this phone in the States. My biggest issue was the lack of bands which would affect 5G... No n260 or n261... So interesting to see what speed you get on T-Mobile
How is it for actual calls? I'm weird in that I still use my phone for... um... phone calls. And the Mark V dropped calls like mad. It also seemed to have sketchy Bluetooth connectivity... so i ended up sending it back. But I am hoping these are fixed now. What do yo think?
I live in the USA and was very interested in Sony's new phone, until they said that they are not going to service it in the USA. Today, I was talking with a friend who has his phone service via GOOGLE. He has been telling me how good Google is when traveling internationally. He said that Google uses T-Mobile network, so if the Xperia 1 VI works with T-Mobile, maybe you can get it to work with Google. Have you or anyone else had experience using Xperia 1 VI on the Google Network?
I ordered a Sony Xperia 1 VI and then signed up with Google Fi last night. I will try this out and see if I can make it work. If not - I will send it back for a refund. And I will let you know the results of this trial. P.S. So far, the trial of the Motorola Stylus 5g 2024 has turned out with some positives, but too many negatives, so I keep turning back to my trusty, but tired, Samsung s10.
It must be the Snapdragon 8 gen 3 that the 1vi earns its worth over 1v. Upon running Wipeout 2048 on Vita3k, the 1v can't handle it. It may be that the 1vi can run Vita3k Wipeout 2048. However, it seems news already has started for Snapdragon 8 gen 4 - perhaps ready for a future 1vii US release.
Adam I have been watching your content for quite some time Thank you for staying true to your morals and honesty on your channel I appreciate your coverage of so many devices
To be honest, I cant really see a difference in 1080 and 1440 unless it's a screen the size of a computer monitor or something like that, but that could be my eyesight
Quick question. I bought a Japan version of this phone, and it wouldn't let me use Google Wallet through the shortcut from the pull-down menu, and I'm unable to add the wallet shortcut to the lock screen. Did you have this issue? Were you able to fix it if you did? Thank you!
It is good to hear someone lavish praise on the Xperia V1. Other channels have been whining on about it's pronounced over exposure issues in auto mode, and it's 'archaic' two 12Mp sensors still in it's camera array. They also blabber on about the long term poor quality of Sony's software, and the overall software integration on the device. All this and worse at a steep steep price. And a lower resolution display with a more 'typical' aspect ratio. What does all this matter though when your device is fresh and new with a pretty macro mode?. Downgrading the display has helped with the battery life also to be fair.
Thanks for the great review. I purchased the Xperia 1VI from Amazon, I lucked out and copped the red edition. Can’t wait for it to get here to start enjoying the next gen SONY phones
Hi! Another great video! I have the pixel 9 pro (smaller version) BUT I am tempted with the Xperia 1 VI. Bar the headphone jack, One big attraction is the battery life. I don't take massive amounts of photos, nor am I a camera enthusiast. But Sony always seems more premium to me. Would you recommend the swap or would you say Pixel 9 pro is overall worth keeping?
Mine has frozen, resprung several times and lagged. I really hope that a software update will sort it as this is a lovely phone. Having it reset mid phonecall is super annoying
This model does not shoot 25fps. Why did they remove this? All previous models have this option and nobody comments that. It 's a phone made for photo/video-professionals. This model is not for America but they sell it in EU and we need 25fps here that we have 50Hz electricity. 24fps and 30fps is super flickering everywhere and our editing timeline is always 25fps. What do you suggest? Do you know other phones with a good video camera with 25fps? - except iphone and older Xperia models ( not enough future updates )...
I just bought a Motorola Stylus 5g 2024 because it still has the expandable memory and headphone jack - and it works on AT&T. It isn't a flagship, by any means, but I a stubbornly sticking with what I love about my Samsung s10 (just got the battery replaced/OEM). I am still hoping by the end of the year that this Sony Xperia 1 VI will work on AT&T. Any chance of this?
I kinda miss the old display. However, I like the new one just about as much as the trade offs of being brighter and having much longer battery life is well worth it. The VI is truly shaping up to be my favorite phone ever. I love your reviews of Sony phones keep them up sir.
I still would like you to talk about the Xperia working here in the us. There are some limitations but would really like it if you can cover it. Verizon is saying it’s not compatible.

If they switch to quad hd plus, they still need to process the content to that resolution, if it's full hd then native full hd content can be displayed directly on the screen without process hence save more battery life that way, I think, right?
What model are you using? And how is the signal? 4g/5g. I heard from Japan sellers that Xperia 1 vi sim free model is out. Do you think we can use it in the US. Thanks.
In believe I have the Taiwan model and I was able to get into the system settings and enable 5G on TMO. Signal seems to be ok but that’s not a guarantee for your area.
the system has settings to enable 5g? I remember reddit users said that they have to dial the code to get to the service to enable the 5g. You don't need to do that? I am using T-MOBILE as well.
So I got the Xperia 1 V back in November 2023 (I wasnt liking the S23 Ultra, my wife use it now) and been loving it. But how is the Xperia VI compared to Xperia V, like Camera, Speakers, termal throttling and battery? Also do you think the 3 year OS update will back track to the V or just stays with the VI?
For the algorithms - lets goooo !! :) Never heard of your channel untill I bought my first Xperia (this new one). Love your honesty - and especially that you admit if you´re wrong. No sugar coating. Big respect. Haha I have the EXACT same feeling when I pick it up - cant fell of im holding it upside down or what. But its a minor thing. Does your phone "rattle" too when you shake it, like something is broken or loose inside ? Doesnt need to be shaken hard. Sony told me its normal - its something with the image image stabilizer motor thingy.....ppl on reddit say have the same rattling experience - so I dont think its an issue. But overall Im really loving the Sony. Coming from Google Pixels (sorry Pixels - I still miss you). Wish you and ur family a good weekend 💪

Currently I'm deciding between iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 16 Pro and Xperia 1 VI, I learned that it is about compromise, I will plan to get myself Nikon Zf with 28-400mm f4-8 lens and want a waterproof phone to shoot Ultra wide, standard and macro, Xperia 1 VI has 2X macro on the tele but I prefer iOS, 15 Pro have 77mm tele, 16 Pro will have 120mm tele which means the 77mm range will be less quality but not sure iPhone 16 will have macro or not, what do you think?
It was probably only a minority of Xperia users who properly benefitted from the 3840p full display resolution height by enabling it to be constant via ADB. I did it with my XZ Premium and now Xperia 1. I miss the 2160p even compared to 1644p, but the screen was also physically wider on the XZ Premium. It takes a very sharp eye to spot the difference between the different rendering modes but to my eye it was obvious and confirmable with screenshots, and the battery impact has been unnoticeable. The main difference is every thumbnail or small text is far clearer, so you can see all of the info all the time. The Album app was one of few that enables 3840p due to the thumbnail advantage, but I also noticed the difference in the whole screen UI (taskbar etc.). 7 years later I have to upgrade my Xperia 1 for VoLTE by the end of August. The 1 VI would have been an incredible instant buy for me if they could have made it 2160p again, otherwise the screen brightness and camera upgrades over the 1 V seem nice, but I'm leaning to just going for that or even a Samsung. The 1080p would be perfectly suitable but the Moto G84 is 1/6th the price and half the features, I've already had one DPI drop from XZ Premium to Xperia 1 and not that interested in doing it again. I want to *upgrade*. But fair enough, I run 27" 4k 100% scaled monitors at work and nearly everyone complains when they look at it. Where are the phones for the eagle eyed tach enthusiasts these days? Or where are the feature rich phones other than this? Such a crap time to be forced to "upgrade".

Thank you. I appreciate it. Glad you enjoyed the video. 1. It doesn’t have tap to wake/sleep. It has something weird for double tap to see lock screen but it’s not he normal tap to wake and it doesn’t put the screen back to sleep. 2. Hello, I got mine last Monday, so six days ago. I’ve been experimenting with it. It’s really cool. I am a Sony Alpha camera user too so, this one was a natural choice. But, moreover, the technical specs convinced me. And I prefer this to any made in China phone. That means, any Chinese brand.
Furthermore, it’s quick CPU and GPU units provide excellent gaming performance, as they say. So, it’s not only an excellent camera phone but it’s at the same level or even higher of gaming phones.

Sony phones are typically great. I stopped buying them once the prices got a bit insane. Its interesting they arent dominant in the space when they were frontrunners with a lot of tech that's been normalized across the board. I loved my XZ Premium back in like 2017
Dial #*#*4636#*#* Select phone info Turn off DSDS toggle and importantly; Wait 10 to 15 seconds then turn DSDS back on. *Do not exit the diagnostic screen until this is completed.* See if 5G is connected. l think if you don't toggle the setting back on and leave the menu you can lose the setting, but it will still enable 5G. But a software update will revert it, and the setting will disappear from the dial menu unless you factory reset.

I use the 1 VI since 2 weeks now and I am very impressed with the battery life the performance. The Heat management. And I prefer this wider screen. Personally. I've used the 1 V Last year and my only complain was the battery life and heat management. And the telephoto lens. Now looks like Sony cleared most of the complains. From the S24 ultra I was coming and now I am using the 1 VI as my daily driver. And the Samsung as my second device. Nice video 🎉👍👍💯
I miss the 21/9 ratio 100%. It is so useful when doing splitscreen. They still used it with the 10 series. I think they made the change in ratio maybe too because of that optical telezoom optics need the space (i dont know, could be). The 4k gone i dont mind that much tbh. I think battery life is also more important. I hope they will make a new 5 series with a dedicated zoom lens and with the 21/9 . But lets see
I will (probably) never buy a Sony phone let alone any other product. I've had nothing but trouble with their products. My Experia phone was losing network coverage and finally was the only phone I've ever had to have it's screen failed. My Sony action cameras were made with poor quality plastic and developed cracks, TV failed, Sony Vaio laptop had constant overheating issues.. and I could list few more ..BUT the worst thing is that in each case Sony customer service was shocking to non existent. They really couldn't care less about their customers. I don't know why YT recommended this video to me lol. I am guessing to have me share my experience 😂

The number 1 question! 💯
Enjoy your Chicago trip. Their deep dish pizza is definitely not my thing though. Thanks again for mentioning Swappa 🙂
Thanks bro. I love the deep dish pizza it's my favorite. And you're welcome.
@@TechOdyssey there's just so much meat. Last time on the medium deep dish pepperoni pizza there was a solid 1/4 inch layer of pepperoni. So much that the cheese had nothing to adhere to. New York style all day long 🙂
Most Chicagoans don't eat deep dish pizza it is for tourists but all of them eat hot dogs and Italian beef.... Check Italian beef sandwich and Chicago hot dog in Portillo's.
Ps I can't wait to see your video about 5G and Sony Xperia 1 IV. I live in Chicago area
In Japan now (Hachioji), did you know there's a 16GB ram version? 😮😮😮
I'll be going to SONY HQ next week and I may be getting it and returning my 12GB version.
Excellent review.
Love my Sony. Audio with 3.5mm headphone socket and sd card slot is perfect for me. And battery life is double the pixel 8a. And I love the FPS on the side.
Do you have a issue of 2x zoom? I realized some weird color dots sticking at the middle screen, after I take the photo it still there...
Nobody talks about it, the sound is so good, especially the Atmos tracks on tidal
Please bring Sony back to South-africa
And America
@@TechOdyssey should setup a store here and call it SonEx (Sony Export)😅😅😅
The switch to the typical aspect ratio is what really discouraged me. I don't really mind the switch to 1080p but I loved the 21:9 aspect ratio of the previous one and it made it easier to hold with one hand despite being a large phone. I just hate how phones are getting wider and feeling like a brick.
I have have AT&T. Will the VI work with the 5 G bands? I also have Verizon GSM. What do you think?
So lame that Sony's not offering this phone in the States. My biggest issue was the lack of bands which would affect 5G... No n260 or n261... So interesting to see what speed you get on T-Mobile
4K in a phone is probably overkill (good in theory, but...) because I don't believe most peoples' eyes can resolve that on a small screen.
So how was the 5g? Does it work?
How is it for actual calls? I'm weird in that I still use my phone for... um... phone calls. And the Mark V dropped calls like mad. It also seemed to have sketchy Bluetooth connectivity... so i ended up sending it back. But I am hoping these are fixed now. What do yo think?
I've had the Mark V on Verizon since November and have experienced not a single dropped call.
Does it have a desktop mode similar to Samsung DEX?
It does not. Sorry
Adam I have been watching your content for quite some time
Thank you for staying true to your morals and honesty on your channel
I appreciate your coverage of so many devices
Shame about the old 12mp sensors on the Tele/wide lenses :-/
The screen with stock android feels like a phone from 10 years ago compared to any other flagship with excellent display.
Camera button, it's the case you have for sure. I've used mine without and with a case and can always find that button.
To be honest, I cant really see a difference in 1080 and 1440 unless it's a screen the size of a computer monitor or something like that, but that could be my eyesight
Great video. Does the phone work with T-Mobile?
Quick question. I bought a Japan version of this phone, and it wouldn't let me use Google Wallet through the shortcut from the pull-down menu, and I'm unable to add the wallet shortcut to the lock screen. Did you have this issue? Were you able to fix it if you did? Thank you!
Will be Xperia 10 VI rewiev???
It is good to hear someone lavish praise on the Xperia V1. Other channels have been whining on about it's pronounced over exposure issues in auto mode, and it's 'archaic' two 12Mp sensors still in it's camera array. They also blabber on about the long term poor quality of Sony's software, and the overall software integration on the device. All this and worse at a steep steep price. And a lower resolution display with a more 'typical' aspect ratio. What does all this matter though when your device is fresh and new with a pretty macro mode?. Downgrading the display has helped with the battery life also to be fair.
I love watching your videos. What is the point and shoot like on the camera? Would you say it's better than Samsung and iPhone?
Thanks for the great review. I purchased the Xperia 1VI from Amazon, I lucked out and copped the red edition. Can’t wait for it to get here to start enjoying the next gen SONY phones
Love your video. got a question. how good is the camera compared to Google pixel 8 pro an the software updates?
I want to know to.?
@josephseman5333 I transferred all data and apps from my old Samsung so it may be that. I will try a full reset 😊
@josephseman5333 that is one thing I can concur, I even forget that I need to charge it which makes a lovely change
except iphone and older Xperia models ( not enough future updates )...
I was a software updates fast or is it like every other manufacturer that has Snapdragon slow slow slow?
Wow nice job my friend
Thank you 👍

Is this XPERIA 1 VI the solution to change my camera and camcorder for my holiday? What is your advice?
Great review! Could you please share how to enable 5g? I plan on buying this phone for Canada/USA use.
Hi there
I went from iPhone to Samsung galaxy fold 4 to Sony Xperia 1 vi and as a iPhone uiim glad I went witg the Sony Xperia 1 vi the battery)asts from 8:39 an till midnight and still has 48 percent left. I'm badly disabled and can't move except for my right hand .I'm a heavy user . I need a phone to. Last a)l day till midnight , I even even thought about getting 2 phones a iPhone and a Samsung in glad I didn't .Im only buying Sony Xperia from now . this Sony Xperia 1 vi is a beast and the best phone I've ever used
If they switch to quad hd plus, they still need to process the content to that resolution, if it's full hd then native full hd content can be displayed directly on the screen without process hence save more battery life that way, I think, right?
Never heard of your channel untill I bought my first Xperia (this new one).
It's the lens shaking. Put your ears close to the lens and shake. You should hear it very close.
@@bloodytoad2010 I know. Thats what I said. That I can hear a rattling. But after talking to Sony, and reading some Reddit posts, Im not worried anymore.

I have the ec72 variant on att and it works on 4g lte no 5g, but he did say in the video that he got 5g to work so I'll wait for his next video to show us how. Everything else works fine on it, you will get a message saying that the phone isn't compatible but that was 7 days ago and it's working perfectly fine.
Если сравнивать с Марк 5 ,есть ли разница при просмотре 4к роликов в Ютубе !??
Just bought the phone recently and its being delivered today! so excited! is that 5G code working out and could you share it?
Go to his review video of this phone under comments section he pinned it.

After whole two weeks with it, I can confidently say: 1080 screen is not an issue. It looks great
It was probably only a minority of Xperia users who properly benefitted from the 3840p full display resolution height by enabling it to be constant via ADB.
I agree
If Xperia V and VI are such great phones, then why's nobody buying them? Sony even left the US market because of bad sales.

Nice video again, thanks for the content. Good to hear the screen is bright and ok in sunlight as well. 😊 I would have a few questions if you could answer thank you so so much.
Does it have double tap wake up? And double tap screen lock?
I had previous xperia phones and those vibrating weren't too strong is it strong enough compared to other phones like Samsung? What do you think?
And just one more question. About the flashlight.. Do you think it's bright enough (my sister had s8 and s23 fe and it's flashlight much brighter.. Than eg. Xz premium..) you think now it's better?
Thank you. I appreciate it. Glad you enjoyed the video.
1. It doesn’t have tap to wake/sleep. It has something weird for double tap to see lock screen but it’s not he normal tap to wake and it doesn’t put the screen back to sleep.
2. I think the vibration is better especially for the typing haptics. It’s good.
3. The flashlight is finally better. It sucked so badly the past few phones. It’s finally normal and decent this time.
Hope all of this helps.

I got mine out of Germany while being, myself, actually in Sicily, Italy.

I did upgrade my microphone. I’m recording in a hotel in Chicago. I just spent $400 on a new microphone to try and improve the audio quality, not that you care. It sounds great on my laptop when I play it back. Feel free to leave if you’re so petty and entitled. Maybe you should have asked before you assumed.
Is the vibration feature that was on the 1v still on the 1 vi that can be used whilst watching content
nope them haptics have gone, i used them a few times but it was a gimmick if anything
Nope sony removed them.
Sony phones are typically great. I stopped buying them once the prices got a bit insane. Its interesting they arent dominant in the space when they were frontrunners with a lot of tech that's been normalized across the board. I loved my XZ Premium back in like 2017
My go-to channel for the new phones 🤘🏻
Can you pls share the code/procedure this guy gave you to enable the 5g? I have the same problem. Thanks
it's probably the MSDS toggle.
Dial #*#*4636#*#*
Select phone info
Turn off DSDS toggle and importantly;
Wait 10 to 15 seconds then turn DSDS back on.
*Do not exit the diagnostic screen until this is completed.*
See if 5G is connected.
l think if you don't toggle the setting back on and leave the menu you can lose the setting, but it will still enable 5G. But a software update will revert it, and the setting will disappear from the dial menu unless you factory reset.
Wish they had a US version or an Int’l version that worked 5G in the US.

Hi! I changed my galaxy s24 ultra to Sony Xperia 1 VI because I'm used to the quality, and unfortunately the galaxy s24 ultra still doesn't offer quality but only quantity over and over again. The Xperia 1 VI offers quality, although the Xperia screen should be a little better than just HDR+, it is compensated by a very long battery life, a pretty good camera with its natural color gamut, a very fast phone, and the Xperia doesn't even have the upgrades that have been done on the s24 ultra and every update made the s24 ultra camera worse and worse and more! This is my description, knowledge and experience at this time and it doesn't have to be suitable for others! Thank you!

Yeah, you can get 5G working, especially if you have at&t or Verizon.
So as far as data DL/UL, I had an S20 FE with T-Mobile's bands, and I get better signals and speeds with the 1 VI. I work far inside of a thick concrete building and I get signals no problems. On T-Mobile network, in central FL.
So we can say that everything is amazing even with 1080p screen and the only disadvantage is hand grip became a bit uncomfortable like older versions which came with 21:9
I have this new Xperia VI and what I've recently done is with the battery 🔋 I've put it into a Max charge of 80% and because of it being so good with battery life it's still working out fine for my usage. It's got a few different battery set-up available and the forced limit has a 90% as well as the 80% I'm using. Just wanted to let everyone know that it's got this feature
I'm interested to hear your experience with the phone's cooling capabilities, specifically using the camera for long periods taking photos and videos, and gaming for hours on the Xperia 1VI
But lets see
Not only that. The besszels become even bigger with that screen ratio in comparison. So that sucks
