"Yo hair so nappy even Wilson couldn't Pickett!" That was from an episode from Martin! And I remember when you said you were gonna do Wilson Pickett's story too when you did the Bobby Womack story I think. And as always... you delivered!!! Thanks for this new episode Celebrity Underrated, & I hope you're having a good night!!! 👑👑👑💯💯💯🔥🔥🔥💪🏿💪🏿💪🏿
Ayyyyyyyyyye Yoooo. AIGHT!!!!!!!💯💯💯!!! Been waiting for this one for a very long time!!!!! Wilson Pickett's story is a wild one!!!! He truly was in a league of his own!!! He did not trust banks at all😂😂😂😂. I ain't mad at em though!!! My evening just got much better. Thank you Mr CU!!!
Saw Wilson Pickett at the Regal Theater in a 2:00 matinee show back in the day-also on the show was; The Mighty Clouds of Joy, The Contours w/Dennis Edwards, Kim Weston, The Volinaires, and Jerry Butler. 18:12
Loved your profile on Wilson Pickett! I hope that someone will do a movie or TV miniseries about him. He might be too old to play him, but ever since I saw the character that Eddie Murphy played in "Dreamgirls," he made me think of him playing Wilson Pickett.
Thank you for bringing us this video. Can we please get stories on the following singers: Issac Hayes Bill Withers Jesse Powell Billy Paul Curtis Mayfield Al Jarreau Maurice White
Ya’ll Wilson was my Dad’s 1st cousin on his Mom’s side and Nat King Cole was his 2nd cousin on his Dad’s side….the STORIES I HAVE about my family is INSANE!!! 😫😫😭😭😭😭
Always grateful for the stories you share. This is such a cautionary tale. So often fame exacerbates deep seated issues not dealt with. Wilson was a great singer, and I love his Midnight Hour song. But he was also a horrible person who seemed to enjoy his high conflict personality. I wish he didn't hurt so many people, including himself.
I live in Alabama, and I am related to Wilson Pickett on my mother's side. My grandfather's mother was a Pickett before she married a Brown. My grandfather told me that Wilson was his cousin. My grandfather, and Wilson Pickett are from the same area. Wilson Pickett was something else. He was very talented, but needed the Lord. God bless everyone!🙏💜
Another banger 🔥 but still waiting on that WWE Chris been asking for u to that one! Real soon CU ikt u still working on it but I'm just reminding Another good one my brother. #RIPWilsonPicket 🙏🏽
Funny his issues about Elvis but the Sweet Inspirations , who backed both Pickett and Aretha , left them to back up Elvis , whom they said paid generously, so much so that they made more backing Elvis than from royalties from their own recordings and all the other artists they backed treated them like employees whereas Elvis treated them like family . Btw James Brown was never jealous of Wilson cause he said Pickett couldn’t dance a lick and wasn’t the showman he was . Myrna Smith of the sweet inspirations said when she got married, she couldn’t except a Diamond ring as a gift that he gave all the Sweets because she was getting married, so Elvis sent her a powder blue Eldorado instead and gave her and fiancé the keys to his home in Beverly Hills that he wasn’t using for their honeymoon and made the cars in garage available to them.
Pickett wasn't tough when it came to Rudolph Isley. Rudolph Isley used to box. Rudolph was the muscle for the group. If anyone tried to cheat them out they cash Rudolph straightened it out.
3:08: Grandfather beats Wilson Pickett over the head with a bible because he was caught singing secular music. 3:18: Wilson Pickett's mother hits him with a wooden stick and breaks his arm. This type of child abuse produces an adult who exhibits serious anger management and alcohol/drug abuse issues. I liked many Wilson Pickett songs. Though his life story is heartbreaking, thank you for sharing the man behind the music.
@@TheRetroWoman80 So very true! I suspect that in the 1940s, there was not much attention paid to mental health for anyone, especially African Americans.
@@jenisemcintyre3839 You're right, not hardly. Any person who was internally disturbed was either put away and forgotten, or simply called "crazy" in that regard. We are different times but there are still ignorant and empathy lacking people who still think this way today.
I have been feeling like there does need to be a movie about this Man. He had some great hits. The ones you named, 6345789, In the Midnight Hour, Mustang Sally, and Engine #9. I would participate as an Actor if there is ever a Wilson Pickett biopic.
I’m a subscriber and I never miss an episode!! This was an EXCELLENT and WELL DONE 👍🏾 VIDEO!! This man was out of his mind!!! He was a very talented singer but out of his mind!! It makes you wonder 💭 if he actually got completely clean, what type of person would he be?!?! 😊😊😊😊😊👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
HE HAD A TRAUMATIC CHILDHOOD AND HIS FATHER WASN'T IN HIS LIFE, PROBABLY, PROBABLY HAD HAD A FORM OF AUTISM, BUT COULD HE SING AND HANDSOME AS HELL, NOW YOU ARE AT REST MR. WILSOM.
Very informative. Timely tempered material. Thank you for uploading it. Have you done one on Sam Cooke? If not, could you do a full length video for Sam sometime soon? I realize compiling the information can be tedious and you need VERY reliable sources, but Sam doesn’t get enough coverage. His story deserves a movie, too.
Thanks for sharing this, I really enjoyed it. I saw Wilson Pickett , at the Howard Theatre, in Washington, DC., back in the early sixty. I were 14 N my first time visiting the Big City ,from the low part of South Carolina. I fell in love with mr. Pickett then. Also, at that same time Wilson Pickett and some more singing artist were at the ,Howard Theater in DC., 😢Mr. Otis Redding and his groups, stop by (on their way somewhere) on Mr. Redding Bus, that had , " My Lovers Prayer ") written on it. Since then, Mr. Wilson Pickett and Mr. Otis. Redding , became my two favorite singers. I still have n play theirs songs today.
Otis Redding was not in the Soul clan, he had passed already, Arthur Conley was in it! They didn't record the two songs together but each one apart in the studio. This Arthur told me himself. ( He was a friend if mine)
I've said this before and I'll say it again.. You can make a 3 hour video and i'll watch it!!!! Your work is top notch!!!! Even if you won't shut me up and make that Heavy D story....😂😂😂😂
Man...Wilson couldn't wait until the midnight hour, this brotha was ackin' a fool all day! I'm sure there are other videos, but this might be the first celeb underrated I seen about the artist wildin out more' than about his singing. Reel talk
Awwwww thank you for covering wilson pickett i love this music ❤ i know his story is very interesting i heard wilson definitely wasn't no punk & didn't take no shits......i love you❤👑
No he was a damn bully. Like he said Pickett had to get a gun for Rudy Isley. Rudy used to be a boxer and he was the muscle for his group, if anyone came up short on their cash Rudy would always straighten it out. He didn't do nothing to that Memphis Mafia. Elvis & them white guys were prejudice they hated blacks anyways.

Wilson Pickett came out with an album in 1979 called I Want You, which was released on EMI America Records. It had the song Shameless on it.

Exactly Pickett was jealous of James Brown like many others of that era. Brown admitted the only singer that he was jealous of was Sam Cooke.
