I met David Ruffin about a year before he passed. It was 1990 in Philly and I was 19. I was somewhat familiar with the Temptations at the time but I wasn’t aware of how big they were. He was at a family friend’s house that my mom and I had visited. He came downstairs and he was so sweet. My mom’s friend had a piano and I sat at the piano with him as he played and sang My Girl to me. I’ll never forget that day. It was such a precious moment.
I saw him driving to Philly on the ben Franklin bridge and I was getting off going towards Camden NJ, he looked at me and I looked at him, he was getting ready to turn around. I can't help but think if he had turned around he might have still been here 😢💔 those split second choices can make a world of a difference.
David Ruffin was part of a Motown tsunami in the UK. He was the man who could deliver the soul of the Motown sound. Lean and tall like John Carlos he moved like he sang, silk and velvet. The finest top note in history. A magician of a flawed man. The greatest ever...
@MsFOXI I was 19…I was aware of who they were just not how big they were…I didn’t grow up listening to the Temps…at that time I was more into Hip Hop, Michael Jackson, Prince but thanks for reading my comment.
David Ruffin was watching his funeral like “Y’all can’t sing my song, at my funeral WITH! OUT! ME!” But to sing that powerful as that man, you had to have went through some painful moments in life 😢 I don’t judge, because we all have a story.

i seen an interview of nedra ruffin sadly before she passed away, she spoke about how she was the last person to talk to her father and she and eddie kendricks said david was sober. she believes david was set up by his younger gf because he had a money belt on him(which was missing when david got to the hospital) and she believes that someone gave him a hot shot to end his life(david also had defensive wounds). two weeks before his passing, farrakhan was supposed to meet with david to "help him get out of something". it's even more scarier to me that he was taken away from us on the first of the month. also sad that he and eddie kendricks said they would tell their own stories of the shady things that happened to them in the industry but unfortunately never got a chance to.💔i wish someone would make an ACCURATE film about the tempts! paul, david, and dennis all had suspicious passings may they get justice and rip and nedra🕊 Interview link> ruclips.net/video/rgDVR1sFckM/видео.html

This is the first I've heard of Ruffin passing away in a different state then transported to Michigan to be buried. All this time, I was under the impression that he died in Detroit.
He died in Philly in a area near where I lived in west Philly and it was a crack area. The temps were in Philly to do a show and main man didn’t show up I remember this very well it was all over the news.
@@thefamily5357 Naw he died in philly and the neighborhood was a dump in which its built up now where patti labelle helped to bring a Shop rite supermarket in that area inside a plaza. Where he died or was found was in or at a crack house a few steps away from the Mann Music Center in the Parkside section of West Philadelphia. He was taken to University of Pennsylvania hospital where he was pronounced. I remember it cause i knew cats from that neighborhood we all went to Overbrook high school. Sorry for the long story but that's the jist of it.
His voice was so beautiful,I’m 32 but I appreciate him “walk away from love” “heaven help us all” “put a little live in your heart” are my favourite songs ❤

This is from the movie in real life David was the voice and according to Denis they took David right back and fired him but his real interest was to go solo.
@@onionhortonjr Dennis says it in an interview a while back.He said something in the lines of he called his mom the night he got fired when they took David back him and David were already homies.
His voice should've been patented! He put so much into his singing it was unreal. Crazy though he said back then, "ain't nobody coming to see you, Otis!". Now Otis is the only 1 left & still performing 🎭.
An interview of Leon who portrayed David in the movie where that line originated said he ad libbed that comment thus I assume😮 David didn't actually say it but he probably should have as Otis mainly contributed to the downfall of the group
Finally at least one other person realizes what a negative influence Otis was! As for any positive contribution he certainly didn't exert himself If you observe his performances it's clear why he outlived the others who gave their all But maybe he was giving his all
David seemed like an intelligent respectful well mannered man who would not make comments like that If you watch his interviews and observe his performances it appears that some individuals wanted to discredit him Otis played a big part probably because he was jealous of David's talent and popularity Then there was Berry Gordy who took advantage of the group financially so David fought him and eventually left Motown and persuaded Eddie to leave also Berry held David back career wise because he challenged Berrys mistress Diana Ross

a correction: according to Otis Williams, The Temptations' first choice to replace Al Bryant was Jimmy Ruffin but the group quickly noticed Jimmy had 2 left feet, then afterwards took a look at David
I don't get it, why sue over the way he was portrayed ? He did do drugs, he did show lots of ego, he did hit his women, he really did use to show up and take over the stage during the time he wasn't with the temptations, he did have a great voice (which I don't think the drugs diminished much of ), and so forth. Was it really that bad of a portrayal?
it was the way his death was portrayed. he wasn't dumped out of a limo at a hospital. he was taken to the hospital by his driver but i guess they did that for dramatic effect.
@@demontemorton6381 I guess, but that's also (imo) a small detail. It just so happens that my uncle was a lab tech at the hospital when he was brought in, and was one of the first to know of his death being called, so I always knew how Ruffin was brought in. For me that detail in the movie wasn't that huge a deal. I hope his fam are okay now tho

Love the Temptations, not one song I don't like, my most favorite song is "just my imagination". Love the movie and watched it many times, I cannot watch it without crying every time Smokey sings "really gonna miss you". Each temptation was so talented and wonderful!
Just my imagination, my girl, wish it would rain, ain't too proud. They don't make songs or stars like this anymore. Love the temptations, supremes, ronettes, marvin, Stevie, Tammy, spinners, marvelettes. David shouldn't have beat Tammy though
@@AS-wj1du I agree on all your comment!
Yes u gotta cry when Smokey sings I think I watch this movie over 30 times
David looked just liked his mom in that 1941 picture of her RIP to both
What a gentleman as well as a true legend 👑❣💯 You are appreciated and missed. RIH❤🕊❤
Gentlemen? That gentlemen you speak of was a woman beater
And a woman beater
It’s crazy to think that all of them could still be alive. They died so young. Outside of Otis the original 5 all passed 55 and younger.
6:46 They should've made David's sudden appearances a part of the show. He was great but he got the big head. I just loved his voice and showmanship.
Me too
My favorite singer, I just visited his grave in Detroit he at the same cemetery alot of my family at, I always clean his grave off an sit an talk to him I like the new slab they got on his grave now
Much Love to that shared story. I was at Temple U in 1990. To know that I was doing my thing at time on that day and that you were as well and part of that day for you was hearing him is that we are all humans going about our business but moments are what lives on and we pass after we pass...
David Ruffin One Of The Historians Singers Of Earth's Times, There Will Never Be Another After Him Singing To Me And You! He Will Go Down In Our Hearts Memories Forever! I Whole Heartly Appove This Message! The Sounds Of Catron!
I don't care what the temptation say nobody sing my girl like David ruffin I aint too proud to beg like David ruffin no matter how hard they try.
David ruffin will always be my favorite singer. I just love that man's voice. I was so sad the way he passed on❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Imagine still being a slave to your masters god 😂
This is the first I've heard of Ruffin passing away in a different state then transported to Michigan to be buried. All this time, I was under the impression that he died in Detroit.
Nope he deff was not in Detroit
He died in Philly in a area near where I lived in west Philly and it was a crack area. The temps were in Philly to do a show and main man didn’t show up I remember this very well it was all over the news.
@@leefbucks So sad to hear that. Thanks for sharing.
@@leefbucksthought it was Cleveland.
We lost so many angels 😭 when we were under the curses of Deuteronomy 28. But we are still here and his voice will forever live. Thank you MH for the best music 🎶 on the planet. APTTMHGY acknowledge Mother Wisdom 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾.
One of the best that ever did it I love his voice
❤❤.......
RIP David!! We share the same birthday
I loved David he had a unique voice, never be another like his😍😚
Mr David Ruffin was my idol and the Temptations was and they all inspires me. I'm a entertainer and they work. 😅
I Had No Idea He Sang For The Soul Stirrers. Swear No Other Group In History Has Had An Insane Line Up Of Lead Singers Like The Soul Stirrers. Also How Fucking Wild Is It That David Ruffin. Rick James & Melvin Franklin Were All Related
The way you do the things you do….MY Girl….i wish it would rain…..Oh my My Goodness I will never forget the TEMPTATIONS
I was there throughout the Temptations origins with Motown and just as that great album they released which was overlooked by many, " Memories" is still my favorite!
David ruffin was a Wonder in my life at that time I was a young woman at that time.. a song about his life. A song about love. And growing up in this world at that time. Praise song about life and what you was really going through it was in his songs. In his life and in my life. He was a great artist I love this voice God bless his soul God bless his soul. 🙏🙏💐💝 Dave and Eddie was very close bless them they will always be missed. 🥰🥰
I saw Him in Chicago Arie crown theater it hurt Me when people walked out on his performance , reason being he Didn't sound like the DAVID Ruffin
We can to see
Later on the press leaked about his drug use. We All wanted sing like David Ruffin. He changed the way we dressed especially slim guys like Me.
GOD Keep Him 😢😢😢😢
Money Brings out the Worst in people
Amen ! 😂
David was the best singer the Tempts ever had. In my opinion the group wasn't the same after he left. Rest in paradise David, rest.
I agree
I do know for a fact that temptations had 3 of best singers in the group David Eddie Paul could know one ever ever replace them boys can blow
My sister she loved Eddie Kendricks she thought that David is the reason that Eddie deleted songs anymore I told her that David voice was just as good as Eddie's we went to every
❤Motown review
What are u even trying to say girl u gotta learn basic thinking and writing skills.. shessshhh
Tf are you talking about 🤦🏾♀️ none of what you saying makes any sense 😂
Nobody like him David Ruffin sang the way he did or ever!! He’s singing with the Angels 😇 Amen 🙏
why don't you shut up! we knew all this stuff! rip! David and Eddie both of them
were fantastic together and solo❤
😂😂
This is from the movie in real life David was the voice and according to Denis they took David right back and fired him but his real interest was to go solo.
How do you know, Pinocchio?
@@onionhortonjr Dennis says it in an interview a while back.He said something in the lines of he called his mom the night he got fired when they took David back him and David were already homies.
His voice should've been patented! He put so much into his singing it was unreal.
Crazy though he said back then, "ain't nobody coming to see you, Otis!". Now Otis is the only 1 left & still performing 🎭.
An interview of Leon who portrayed David in the movie where that line originated said he ad libbed that comment
thus I assume😮 David didn't actually say it but he probably should have as Otis mainly contributed to the downfall of the group
Finally at least one other person realizes what a negative influence Otis was! As for any positive contribution he certainly didn't exert himself If you observe his performances it's clear why he outlived the others who gave their all
But maybe he was giving his all
David seemed like an intelligent respectful well mannered man who would not make comments like that If you watch his interviews and observe his performances it appears that some individuals wanted to discredit him Otis played a big part probably because he was jealous of David's talent and popularity Then there was Berry Gordy who took advantage of the group financially so David fought him and eventually left Motown and persuaded Eddie to leave also Berry held David back career wise because he challenged Berrys mistress Diana Ross
1 of the best lead singers of all time of any group his voice was awsome
This must be someone who was born after Ruffin died. Better research needed.
he is a hater no doubt!
It is "AI" (robot).
@@idontknow7738dude that this was a human speaking 😂😂😂😮😮😮
@sourdiesel681 I am not a dude. And, that is "AI"/robot. We can all agree to disagree. No harm, no foul, and just keep it moving. 😆 P.S. Sadly, "AI" is the new thing now. It has been around for a minute though. When I pay bills over the phone, it is "AI" (robot) handling the call. You have to almost yell at the robot if you want to speak to a live person. That has happened to me more than a couple of times. 😂 People are losing their jobs because of "AI." Wake up. 💤😴💤
Some of these celebrities are some of the most flawed people walking around.🎤🤔
David Ruffin were a good singer. His voice were different from the others and everyone love that deep and great voice sound he had about his voice.
It's profoundly sad!!!😢
RIP, dear soul. I love you. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
A OUTSTANDING SINGER MET DAVID AT THE BANK I WORK AT IN HOLLYWOOD CALIFORNIA "HOME SAVINGS OF AMERICA.WELL DRESS AND SMOOTH ALWAYS IN MY MEMORIES.RIP DAVID
Eddie wasn't fired,he left the Temptation on his own shortly after recording,"Just My imagination".
Gets your facts right
“Ain’t nobody coming to see you Otis”.. “I’m the one selling the records”
My Girl...loved it! Its so sad that drugs and early death has plagued the music industry for forever. There must be something going on as we've been told. Now that there's videos not just pictures, there's receipts and 2024 its all coming out and folks are uncomfortable in both the music and movie industry 🤔 What's done in the dark is coming out in the light thru RUclips and more arenas smh 🙌🏽🙏🏽

Heres a fun fact terre haute is in a valley wabash valley to be exact! It's also where the okc bomber was executed. Never knew david ruffin served time there for back taxes i learned something new today lol
Along with Ron Isley too.
David died in Philly sir.
David was at home on stage singing ., a pure crooner and I know cause we can tell
His dance moves was as smooth as his voice 😊
David ruffin was capricorning before capricorning was a thing.
I think that's why my Capricorn granny loves her some David Ruffin.
David Ruffin was a magnificent singer
a correction: according to Otis Williams, The Temptations' first choice to replace Al Bryant was Jimmy Ruffin but the group quickly noticed Jimmy had 2 left feet, then afterwards took a look at David
Nobody cares

Man… that voice.
He didn't die in Detroit. He was In Philadelphia, PA. In June 1991.
David allegedly hit Tammi in the head with a motorcycle helmet during one (of many of) his fits of rage.
I was unable to finish my comment we went to every Motown review Detroit child's life we loved it we bragged about it for I can't even remember how many years cuz I am 69 years old and my sister and my sister is 70
David Ruffin is my favorite Temptation.. His voice speaks to me on so many levels. On my Playlist. When I woke this morning I wish it would rain was in my brain and I felt compelled to listen to it. Lost because of drug addiction gone never to record new music for me is sooo sadd. A spark reminder that no matter where we are in life we are human. Otis Williams in the movie which I have seen many times said it best. No man is bigger than the group. Leon Roberson capture D
avid Ruffin playing his character. Kudos to Leon Kudos Temptations Forever ♥ 💔
He knew AINT NOBODY COMING TO SEE YOU OTIS😂😂😂 if you know you know 💯
Freddie gibbs has that skit where he quotes that as well 😆
This is not something David Ruffin ever said it was interjected into the movie by the actor that played David Ruffin but people keep associating him to that saying' even though he never said that. movies are powerful.
Do you know that for sure? Is it written or was it mentioned anywhere? Not being A smart Ass, just curious@bobbyr888

When I hear anything about Davis Ruffin, yes his name is DAVIS, I see Leon!
A Greek church parking lot was on the corner of our house. You would find us girls, cousins, and sisters five ten yrs apart in age at night, dancing and singing. We had a dinky little radio. We were poor. We just didn't know it. We always had food, clean clothes and the Temptations. We had it all.❤
He died in Philadelphia, not Detroit. Please do
your homework, aka Google.
It sounds like an AI robot.
I think he just said he was buried in Detroit.
My mother was at the concert at the Fox theater in detroit where he stole the mic from Dennis for Aint too proud to beg...she said once that voice came back..no one was expecting it... everyone just lost it... She said it was otherworldly... And sounded amazing.
I Love his voice, so very sad how he died, what a legend.
