I haven't seen anything he has made in over a decade and I haven't missed a thing. He uses the same script over and over, so much, I'm over it! Im also a dark-skinned, college educated successful professional, but in his movies, we're always the ho's 😢.
Daddy’s little girl, Gabrielle Union- was guarded but very successful and not regarded as a ho. Diary of a mad black woman- Elise was a faithful, married woman, not regarded as a ho. A madea Christmas- Tika- married, educated teacher, not regarded as a ho. But he “always” cast dark-skinned women as ho’s?
Tyler Perry has been open about his father issues. This comes off and bleeds into his work. That's a result of never having had a black male hero in his whole life. Hope he can begin to do some introspection to heal those wounds through his work going forward.

The problem with us as black people is the fact that we don’t like to be told about ourselves no matter the color of the person who tells it. We cannot continue to place the blame on other races when we are the ones that do the worse to each other in our own personal lives. Our culture never takes accountability over anything that goes on with us as a people. It’s always everyone else’s fault why we treat each other the way we do! Let’s keep it all the way real!

Not being raised in the US, whenever I encountered drama in communities I frequented, even in some churches I attended, I would feel like I was in a Tyler Perry movie and walk away from that toxic energy…
They seem to forget that Wesley, Samuel, and Denzel WEREN'T Wesley, Samuel, and Denzel when they worked with Spike Lee! They were in the beginnings of their legendary careers. Spike brought out a lot of A-listers BEFORE they were A-listers, just like The Wayans. So maybe the moral of the story is we need more black producers period! And Spike Lee joints didn't always paint us in a positive light either. He had movies about crackheads, drug dealers and a cheating black married man.....soooooooo.....😔. Our community need more "Blank Pantherish" movie themes and less "We all from the ghe-etto" plot lines.
True, but Spike’s movies depicted the truth about US…good, bad, and ugly! I dont rock with all of his films, but majority are good, even if they show more ghetto than anything. He also had messages either throughout the movies or at the end!💯
The idea of Black panther was created by white people lol. There are plenty of black producers. The answer isn’t always more. Where are the Asian, Latino, middle eastern producers? There’s plenty of white producers who create white villains and white people don’t whine. There’s an insecurity complex. Black people are clearly picking and choosing to watch this and yet people are still finding a way to say black people are being wronged. It’s obnoxious.
One of the things that annoyed me most is at the end of “Why did I get married too” Malik Yoba got killed and then literally a minute later. The Rock showed up and everything was better. Like what?!
I'm a black woman who has NEVER watched any of Tyler Perry's movies. His offensive movies reduce women to caricatures. I believe he is a closeted gay man venting his frustrations.
Let that statement sit in "You vote with your money/pocketbook, you vote with your time, sitting infront of an idiot box" I felt that....Thats why Im always on the road traveling and not just starring at a screen day in and out. I monitor my screen time monthly.
As a white woman I find Madea movies hysterical. But I never thought his characters were typical black folks. I know too many intelligent, classy black people to think that way.
It’s entertainment for me-and Perry’s work helped me to make changes to a toxic relationship- changes that I’m not sure that I would have I made. I know how I was raised and his “stereotypes “ don’t fit the agenda that I was born with
You don’t know many intelligent people, you’ll find that people are not only easily led to believe it but it’s reinforced by black people acting like the stereotype. If you don’t see that huge increase your not intelligent either
Why does everything have to be sooo serious it's comedy and entertainment... we need to just take a breath and learn to 😂laugh more we'll live longer ❤😂🎉
I can honestly say that I enjoy watching the Madea movies, if Tyler wants to wear a dress on stage let him. But I don't agree with Hollywood pushing black actors into wearing a dress when they are not comfortable doing so, or it goes against their beliefs, just to keep their job. I agree with Spike Lee, When he says we can do better. There are much more positive ways to portray our black people.
My eyes opened a few years ago about TP. Not all black men are negative nor treat women badly. I found that I was drawn to his movies that seemed to identify my current state of mind. His spirit started to rub me the wrong way, when I realized he used few white characters like they don't understand "black issues", black men presented as being abusive, women that work low income jobs or not at all until something drastic happens in their lives that forces change, and how can a black man that portrays being a woman understand what and how women truly feel about their daily struggles. Men and women are forever different mentally, physically and emotionally.
It's comedy. He's not the first to don a dress (Nipsey Russell, Eddie Murphy, Wayans Bros.). He's not the first to play on stereotypes for comedy (Wayan's Bros, 90's Black comedies, etc.) He's just the one who's managed to make a LOT of money doing it. I don't care for all his work, especially the tv shows (those camera angles - ugh!!). However, I didn't always like Spike Lee's work either. The ONLY reason he was ever an actor in a film was because it was his film. He was a HORRIBLE actor. That being said, his focus has always been more serious, issues based, and thought provoking. Tyler is about the comedy or drama of it all - for pure entertainment. We need both.
One of my ex-girlfriend asked me to go see the first Madea movie when it first came out. I didn’t laugh once. The whole theater was rolling and I was sitting there thinking, “this is the dumbest low-hanging fruit comedy I’ve seen in years.” Never seen another thing with Perry’s name attached to it.
Same. I first saw his stuff at a family member’s house during holidays. My aunt noticed that I didn’t like it at all. I hate the stereotypical scripts that set us back several decades.
Couldn't stand TYLER PERRY from his onset. Never watched ABSOLUTELY NOTHING OF HIS. PERIOD. When you know you know. Its NOT just entertainment, he has sown horrible seeds. Smh. ALL MONEY ISNT GOOD MONEY.
This is why studying the Arts is so important. Going to school and studying the arts whether its writing, painting, film, dance etc., affords you the opportunity of truly digging in and learning what art is truly about. Most importantly, you sit through critiques and learn to critique yourself and others. Art--is a product of what it is like to be human. As artist we are responsible for creating human products. Sitting in class and learning to critique your work and what you are trying to say in your art is important. It teaches you how to THINK for humanity with your art. However, while Tyler Perry did not go to film school (Correct me if I am wrong) he is highly intelligent, business savvy and a nice guy who gives back to his community. However, his lack of training in the arts shows in how he thinks about his work. Filmmaking is a hustle for him. He doesn't think like an artist, he thinks like a businessman. He does not put in the full capacity as an artist and creativity. He does just enough to create a tv show. Spike and those other actors know it takes a whole specialized creative team. Script writers, various producers, hair, make up, production design, foley, lighting, sound design, film color, cinematography, editing etc to make a masterpiece or something that is amazing. His shows are entertaining but many of his characters are forgettable. The lighting and color are the same and don't push the boundaries and tell a story. I wish he would take critique. I wish he would turn over responsibilities to people that specialize in it and trust them. Go back to being an artist and not a microwave machine. Spike and those other actors went to school to perfect their craft. It would not hurt TP to take some classes, read some books, sit in some critiques, look at his work differently, let go of some of those reigns he holds so tightly, and hire and trust a creative team to push the boundaries. He could only go up more if he did. To me his most artistic work leans toward For Colored Girls and Jazzman's Blues.
Alex Trebeck passed away and had NO SCANDAL, so why is his STAR IN HOLLYWOOD shown when you spoke about the sleaze happening in HOLLYWOOD?? That was disrespectful!! You should correct that and change that photo!

I only found three of his movies to be entertaining- “ Daddy’s Little Girls” starring Idris Elba and the 2 “ Why did i get married” movies and other than those films the rest weren’t that interesting to me. One major positive i do take away from Tyler is his studio is completely his (1st black man to own a major studio independent to Hollywood’s big three), secondly he employs close to 90 percent black at the studio and third he backs other filmmakers through his 34th street films arm of his company. So its almost a double edged sword when it comes to Tyler. We hate the imagery in a majority of his movies, but him keeping brothas and sistas employed on a such a major level can not be ignored- so its the good with the bad i guess.🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️
That doesn't matter if you're self inflicting you're own people/audience & it hurts more than help he can hire 10,000 Black people he's hurting a lot more.
Both Tyler Perry and Spike Lee have their own issues. Tyler's are obviously outlined here. Spike often likes to speak out of both side of his mouth. He claims to support racial equality and unity, and showcased some of the contradictions and challenges faced by those dating outside of their race/ethnicity in "Jungle Fever", but has boasted about disrespecting and "shooting daggers" at interracial couples. I have issue with any one person claiming to almost exclusively represent or portray their group. I didn't like it when Olmos, George Lopez, or Salma do it for Latinos. Every person is an individual and experiences culture/ethnicity in a different way, even within their own family. Similarities are obviously there but how the person perceives is also going to be different. So unless you're willing to make a million different Latino movies or a million different Black movies, no one filmmaker or TV producer can claim to solely represent their group. They just give us a small glimpse into how ONE person may experience it.
The only thing I can see is Tyler Perry's success. The man is talented. Some of his best movies are of him playing madea. While people are criticizing, he is running to the bank.
Spike Lee wrote some BS movies himself about black men being depicted as stereotypical men who met women in the club had sex and left. Like she’s gotta have it if you want better don’t complain about someone else’s work. You know how to write a script,. write a better one . Tyler Perry told the truth at that time, grandmothers, great aunts, and mothers were taking care of the household, and the children themselves most of the time the black man was absent. Now things have changed in the last 20 years more black men are taking responsibility for their children Write about it don’t fight about it
My dad who was much more "Black" than I am, who grew up in the 1940's used to call spike Lee's movies coonery and bafoonery not in those exact words, he was always talking about how our depictions in tv and movies were going backwards from what his generation fought for, I tend to agree. I didn't see it when he was alive as a young man but as and older man he was correct and it's a damn shame.
@@michaelroberson7476 I just commented but I don't know where it went actually thinking back when my dad saw Malcolm X he was mad because they showed how black people straighten their hair back then with the chemicals and he said they shouldn't be showing white folks that.

The 80s had Benson, Cosby, Good Times, 227, Different World, Gimme a Break, Jeffersons, andany more. Then many supporting roles like Magnum PI, Siver Spoons, A Team, Facts of Life, etcetera. Idk what people are talking about when they say black people weren't on tv.
In the 1960s there are examples like "Mod Squad" and "Man from U.N.C.L.E." Sammy Davis Junior did variety shows. I worked with, lived next door to, went to school with, and hung out with black people (1970s through the millenium). You cannot be successful as a black person without criticism from people. Did anyone ever realize that he has evil characters as well as angel characters. He takes actors that no one knows and gives them a job. If they didn’t want to be in the movies, then they wouldn’t be in them. Y’all would be mad if he stopped casting black people all together and started hiring other folks. Let the man win- who cares what he chooses to do with his business. If you want success, you will be criticized. Who cares.
Its like this. Every black movie either trying to get money robbing banks or just got out of jail. Always has a black man or woman getting out of jail or going to jail. Tyrese movies for instance. He had to save his daughter how? Robbing a bank. 😢 Hollywood so racist
The only difference with that is they all had to in that scene or whatever right? Even the lead WHITE actor. It wasn't a situation where a lone black actor got singled out and ambushed with a surprise edit to the script and was asked to wear a dress. That would have made a difference for me too.
honestly diary of a mad black woman was good. it had shock value and i remember people went out in droves to see it. However, his movies haven't really evolved beyond those same concepts even after all this time.
On the topic of men wearing dresses. Before women were allowed basic rights and professions, only men were actors. The women’s roles in theater were depicted by men in dresses. Of course, this was long ago. However, the practice has never faded and many men of all races have worn dresses in theater. I remember as a child, Flip Wilson had a female persona and many thought it amusing. I do understand the desire of black men to move away from this practice and respect their decision to do so. My opinion, which does not amount to much, is we should respect the male actor’s right to choose the roles he enjoys and not assign too much to their decision to wear or not wear a dress.
No we shouldn't, it's an agenda. And if you can't see it, it's because you don't want to.entertainment is the devils tool for indoctrination, as well as revelation. Stay woke.or sleep , thee choice is yours.
"On the topic of men wearing dresses. Before women were allowed basic rights and professions, only men were actors. The women’s roles in theater were depicted by men in dresses. " This is why I don't put much argument in this, because it true. And to take it to an international level, you can go to Asian cinema. In Japanese & Chinese movies (Chinese especially) , the female roles were played by men and the male roles were played by women. Dresses and full makeup, much more than Madea's makeup. At some point , many well-known/famous Asian male & female actors have done gender-swapped roles and their sexuality hasn't been questioned. Is that Tyler Perry is just that good of an actor for his main character? It could be. Could his real-life experiences be a part of portraying Madea? Could be. Could it be how the African American community's view of the appearance of what could be homosexuality in a male making judgement calls to see what might not be there? Defintely.
And historically make up and wigs was exclusive for men and in the animal kingdom the male is usually the one with all the fancy colours it helps to attract the females so makes sense for males to reflect this in human society it's been perverted to make out by wearing make up and wearing dresses as being gay 😅

None of those latinos ever sell out their race and cross dresses. Wtf ate you babbling about?

The only thing I can see is Tyler Perry's success. The man is talented. Some of his best movies are of him playing madea. While people are criticizing, he is running to the bank.
Spike Lee wrote some BS movies himself about black men being depicted as stereotypical men who met women in the club had sex and left. Like she’s gotta have it if you want better don’t complain about someone else’s work. You know how to write a script,. write a better one

This is why I don't put much argument in this, because it true.
@@geronwilliams4447 are you gay?
I have never cared for him or any of his work. He makes the black man look as terrible as possible while he tries to simultaneously be a black woman.

Black men do not wear dress, Black men are strong. Black men are God's image😊

He wants non famous pretty boys so he can exploit them.
Yep
And even if that is the case there is free will to go along with it or not. No victims here.
Idris Elba in “ Daddy’s Little Girls”- he wasn’t a bad guy and didn’t do anything that would be deemed gay 🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️
Yes he was
@@Bobby-di1ve no he wasn’t. He was a guy trying to keep his daughters safe from their horrible mother- did you even see the movie?
I DISAGREED WITH SPIKE MANY YEARS AGO, BUT ALSO, I DID NOT KNOW TYLER PERRY LIKE THIS UNTIL YEARS LATER WHEN SOME FOLKS IN MY FORMER COMMUNITY BASICALLY PROMOTED THIS DUDE, AND I FELT A LITTLE WEIRD ABOUT WATCHING IT UNTIL I REALIZED HOW FUNNY IT IS! WHILE ENJOYING HIS WORK/ENTERTAINMENT, I ALWAYS FELT LIKE IF ANY MAN CAN PUT ON A DRESS IS NOT REALLY A MAN AT ALL SO WITH THAT I WILL LEAVE THIS, 20 YEARS AGO I REALIZED THAT SPIKE LEE WAS ON IT THE ENTIRE TIME! EVERYONE HAS SPACE TO LEARN AND GROW, REGARDLESS OF WHO AND HOW OLD YOU ARE! THANKS, SPIKE!
They are movies. If you don't like them, dont watch them.
Shut up..
That's the bottom line.
Shut up
Wake up you are part of the problem
Yes. No more. Its ONLY MOCKING GOD and making women and black people look foolish
Idiot box is the truth. No moee
Anybody that creates a business, and it is legal, and it feeds people…they’re good in my book.
@@mickymickymike4105 White folks created a business killing and lyncing Black men for entertainment, is that ‘ok’?
@@mickymickymike4105 Legal but what about spiritually!!! How does or can he build women or men in characters that are degrading.
@@anastasiadavis7529 I don’t know what you are asking, but when you are an adult, no one can make you do anything that you do not choose to do. If I were offered a role by Tyler Perry and it was a role that went against my morals and dignity, I would just tell him no and turn down the money. Even if I’m being offered billions of dollars. Your value and character is far more superior than a dollar sign. But if other people accepted the role, I would not judge them because that is their choice. They better not complain years later when they are irrelevant and don’t have much money, say that this or that director did stuff to them and made them play that part lol.
❤❤ I will always love and support my black brothers and I will always uplift them in anyway that I can and just because we have one director producer that always seems to put our brothers somehow and a negative way not flying with me love you my brothers always❤❤❤
Unless Tyler do something illegal or inappropriate, he's going continue having the support he needs. I enjoy Tyler's work. When it comes to bashing men, women have been fisrepected and under valued for decades.
Whether you like it or not, it works for Tyler Perry. You be you and let him be him.
@@jeffreyhunter4991 He’s trying to force his will on other actors that work for him. That’s evil 😈
"A lot of this is on us. You vote with your pocketbook." That's so true. Everyone is talking about what everyone knew about Diddy and a lot of these other people, but it didn't stop "y'all" from making them rich.
Black Comedians for many years before Tyler Perry made jokes about black society. And we attended their shows. So what's so different now? Tyler is doing what has been done for years
Time for a change!
Oversimplification. You missed the point.
It's a lot more nuanced than that especially when a movies is supposed to be taken "seriously"
But see.... that's the problem
Perry always try to include a rape backstory in nearly every movie for emotional weight that feels forced. And it's always told by a character instead of shown to the audiences that makes it boring.
I guess that's because he went through the same thing as a child.
