Right on. Thanks!
@@erikminamihata Is this age requirement for the ANG officer still intact?
@@William14094 As far as I know it is. Going to go for it?
Thinking of joining the military at age 29 the fact that you did it 10 years older then myself gives me so much confidence man. Thanks for posting your videos help a lot. You’ve never to old to chase a path that’s forsure.
Hell yeah awesome! 29 is a great age! I'm glad you dig the vids. Go get it! Keep me updated on your progress!
Hey Nomo if you are still thinking it, I suggest to try the Air National Guard! I was just sworn in, PA Air Guard and I am 29 years Old! Go For IT!
Thank you Erik! I just finished BMT last week. I learned a lot by your videos. Once again a Big Thank You!
Luis Villalobos Airman Villabos! Congrats brother! Glad they helped! How’s tech school going
@@erikminamihata Not yet there, Im still waiting.
Congrats Erik! Great information, thanks!
Thanks Manny!
Great Vid Erik. Hey, they raised the Navy Officer age too. There are some jobs that go up to 42 now.
That's awesome! Yeah that's for the email. That really opens up a lot of opportunities for us older dudes!
Great video and information. Keep rising!
Thank you, Sir! Your videos gave me the push I needed to join. Thank you for all that you’ve done for us older folks!
Man thank you for this video. My biggest concern was after 39 it's over. So glad there's still hope for prior service trying to get in.
Hell yeah!
Your videos have been so informative and great for me. I’m 36 and thinking about enlisting.
Hey thanks Bro! Glad they help out! 36 is a great age. Don't let that number hold you back. You'll do great!
You know what? I used to watch your videos around the time I was enlisting. I watched your videos the night I went to MEPS and it is good to see your channel again. I'm a Marine and have been in for nearly a year now. (Doesn't sound like long but it's been a long ride. Phew!) Hahaha, I am just trying to weigh my future and I'm hoping to do my 4 years and I might end up reenlisting in the Marine Corps or take a break. However, I've really been looking at the ANG, Navy Reserve, and Army NG for later in life. Since you got in I'm certain that if I tried I could do it myself. I feel like being a motivated little Marine will carry over into civilian life and I won't be able to shake the military lifestyle and I'll want to join again. Maybe even in my 30s or so.
Hey I appreciate that! Congrats on your career, Devil! You're making all the right moves. Glad to hear you're planning ahead. Seriously, if I can do it, anyone can....especially a Marine! Keep me updated on your progress!! Thanks for reaching out!
@@erikminamihata I appreciate this! I will most certainly come back one of these days to let you know. It's good to see you've made it! You are a good example! Thank you. Keep making content.
Hey what's up dude! Hope all is well on your end, and happy new year! I love all your videos, and thank you for reaching back out to me via email a few months back. Can you please put out more content in the near future? Thanks again for all that you do!
Hey Bro! Happy New Year! I actually made one a couple of weeks ago but the audio was all screwed up hah. I'm make some soon. I've been wanting to get back into it. How are things going on your end?
Thanks so much for this video and it's content. I'm a 32 year old civilian planning to apply for OTS for the next non-rated board. I'm super nervous and super excited all at the same time. My brother is 40 and wants to join too. Looking forward to more of your videos! Thanks for your service.
Hey awesome! Thanks so much checking the videos out. Definitely keep me updated on your progress. No matter what happens with this board stick with it!
40 is too old I think
Thanks for your videos I'm 38 taking my oath and swearing in next week for the Air Force. I'm excited and a little nervous.
Hell yeah congrats Michael! You'll do great! Don't worry, EVERYONE is nervous when they swear in. Just part of the process. Let me know if you need any advice or help along the way. You're going to do awesome! Congrats!
Great video. I joined the group! 🙋🏻♀️
Awesome! Thank you! Hope it all helps!
Congrats my man I’m 38 and this is very inspiring!
Awesome! Thank you! Let me know if you go for it!
@@erikminamihata I will!
@Rasheed Gooden, i enlisted when i was 29, happy to help on any questions. 👍🏼
Thank you for making these videos! I'm 35 (almost 36) and I have several barriers (fitness being the biggest one), but I always wanted to join the Air Force. I have a career and a family now, so active duty is not the best option for me, but the Air National Guard seems great. I have to get in shape, though... BMT terrifies me, smh.
Definitely don't let that stop you. Start working with a recruiter or find a basic training program and you'll succeed. But also remember, BMT is only 8.5 weeks. After that it's over and you won't have to do anything like that again. Keep me updated!!
@@erikminamihata thank you 😊
You can do it!! You can do whatever you put your mind to. Follow your dreams.
I went to BMT at 36. I didn't like it, but it wasn't terribly difficult either. When I first got to Lackland, I was very nervous though. But got used to it after a while.
This sounds like me lol
Erik congratulations on all your success man! I've been following you for about a year. Did you say that you come out to Ventura County for your duty? Yeah I live in Oxnard myself, that is why I have thought about joining the Air Force National Guard. I have a degree, but I am 43. Bummer. I wish I could have joined the Guard or Reserve earlier in life.
Hey thanks Danny! Yup, right in your neck of the woods. Have you thought about joining the California State Guard? We do have quite a few airmen that work with us around base. I'm seeing them get activated for this state emergency as well.
@@erikminamihata Yeah I am sort of interested because I am in a union with my local school district. So if I was called to deploy overseas or activated to be full time, my union would respect that. They wouldn't fire me. They would hold my job. I'm 43 but like you, I feel a lot younger. If I was required, I know that I could get into shape. But man, the thought of going through Basic Training sounds like a lot of work! lol. What sorts of jobs do they have at the base? I am a janitor and I do security, so I guess that I would be interested in a services of facilities maintenance sort of job.
Watched a few video of yours and others. I’ve been playing a lot of Onward too. Finally made a call to a recruiter. The first hurdle is the medical history. I need a doctor to “OK” me for military service. I will be 39 soon.
awesome, best of luck Angelo! Let me know how it goes!
Another great video! Quick question for a 38 year old police officer thinking about ANG. I had spine surgery (artificial disc replacement) in January. Recovery has been fantastic and my strength is back (been back lifting since March) as is my cardio (did my 5th half marathon last week), so physically feel fantastic.
Hey Danny, thank you for your service out there! I would definitely talk with a recruiter. I'd hate to give you some bad information but in my case and my wrist (plates, screws, etc) i had to go to an orthopedic specialist to get it signed off for my waiver. You might be in a similar boat. With your background I'm and level of fitness I'm sure they'd love to work with you! Keep me updated!
Hey nice video ! Congratulations on your success! Can you explain about the everyday. Are you only doing the job on your drill 1 a month and the 2 weeks yearly ? What about the rest of the year ?
Thanks Alfonso! I'm actually going to put up a video on that here shortly. Shooting for this weekend. But I would say, depending on your job and whats going on in the world, you'll be on way more than that. 1 weekend a month 2 weeks a year is just the minimum. And that's not a bad thing!
Erik thank you for your response ! The next question I have , do you know if the ANG has direct commission to officers ? I will like to know more info and explore that option
I'm gonna be almost 39 when I try to join ANG. I'll be going to college too, for my first degree, so I can hopefully become an officer when I finish my degree around the age of 43-45..
Right on. Yeah go for it! I have no regrets going in at the age I did. I love it. Keep me updated!
Whats the age limit for air force rotc
Erik nice video.
Thanks Geo!
Heyyy I follow you since you in student flight. I am at DOD fire academy tech school. I hope you the best the time in your unit. Is that true that as a airman first class you can flight first class with discounts jajaja take care
Super helpful!
I’m leaving the Army as enlisted with no degree to join the Air Force guard soon. Planning and starting my GI Bill immediately to complete my bachelors in engineering in order to go officer! However you mentioned ROTC is a safer bet. My question is am I able to do both ROTC and Guard so that I don’t have a break in service? Thanks again!
Hey Emerson. Sounds like an awesome plan. As far as I know, you can't do both. I could be wrong on those details though. I would definitely speak with the ROTC unit at the school you're thinking of attending to see how that works. I'll comment back if I hear something different. Keep me updated too.
@@erikminamihata thank you and will do!
Hey Erik. Great video. I live near an Air Force reserve base. If I were to join the ANG and the nearest ANG base is 6 hours away. Can drill weekends be out of the Air Force base or must they be at an ANG base?
Hey William thanks! I really do appreciate that. You'll need to find the closest guard unit to you. You may want to consider checking out the Reserve. Have you spoken with them yet? That commute is going to start sucking really fast. I'd definitely see what the Reserve has to say, just based on that driving distance. Let me know how it goes!
I'm in the Army right now, and I would love to come to the Air National Guard or Air Force Reserve as an officer. My dream is to fly.
Nice! It's definitely easier once you transition over. Let me know if you need a contact. I know California needs pilots
Re:Joining heard the 40% rule, does it apply to debt to gross income or monthly bills to expected rank pay? Thanks
I'm currently 37 and in the army my contract ends in 2025, would I be able to switch over to the airforce to comissioned?
Hi Erik. I remember watching your videos years ago. Did you actually join the military before the age cut-off? Are you still in now if you joined and how long is your contract? How old are you now? What branch did you join buddy? Thanks. 👌🏻
Hey Traveling Dude. Yup, got in right before the cutt-off. Ended up going Air Force! How about you?
@@erikminamihata Are you full-active duty bud or reserve? I was going to go in my late 20s and 30s but I’m almost 42 now so that’s no longer an option for me. I’ll be retired with three pensions from two different jobs within the next two years anyway. If I could go back some years, I definitely would’ve joined the Air Force but as a reservist and would’ve been done with the military with my Associate’s degree, Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree while literally traveling all over the world by age 30 with a paid off house and very well off financially as well as totally debt-free. It would be nice if the universe could give us a do-over in life. I’ve already been to all 50 states, the US Caribbean territories, many countries and have been on a few continents. By the end of 2022, I will have been to all 7 continents. My life has had lots of detours. Nothing in life ever really works out the way we exactly want it too. I look at life this way. The average person is the US lives to be about 85. No matter what we do or don’t do in life, we’ll all face death someday as much as I don’t want to. I plan to live at least until I’m 100. It’s so important we don’t waste our time in life doing things we don’t want to do for too long. Life is very precious but with limited time. How long is your entire contract? Are you married with kids in the military? Good luck to you bud. 👌🏻
Would you ever consider doing a house tour. Just wondering for us married older guys coming back in from another branch. Did you do base housing or out in town?
Hey bro absolutely. I don't live off base but would definitely would like to share what life in the Guard with family is all about.
In other words, if you have prior years, for example, somebody has 5 years of active duty time, that person would need to join before turning 45?
Yup, but check with a recruiter just in case.
Is this also true for the regular Airforce? I just enlisted active duty at 40 and want to commission.
Im going to email you an article about what’s happening to my unit, look out for that sir!
Hi Erik,
I’m going through the process to join the Air Force Reserve at 39. Did you have to go through a security clearance in order to enlist?
Hey Skyline. Depends on your AFSC. But yeah, for the most part you will. How's everything going so far?
I’ll ship April 5th. It’s pretty exciting 🙂
You’ll have to give us an update on your Air Force Career.
@@skylineleathercompany congratulations! Please keep us updated.
I understand that enlisted is more technical and officers are more managerial, so how vast are the duties different between enlisted and officers on your
drill weekends?
It's definitely a lot different. Officer handle more of the planning, orders, and assignments. Us enlisted have specific jobs skills or trades that are required to set those plans, orders, and assignments into action. It's pretty much like what you would see in a corporate work environment. Which direction are you planning on going?
I'm getting ready to join and my recruiter is heavily pushing Enlisting and then submitting a packet.. Is that my only option or am I getting funneled?
Hey Erik like the info I'm alan 34 yrs old just got my ged want to join the army for you what was it like going though basics
It wasn't too bad. The hardest part was being away from family. Let me know how it goes. You'll do awesome!
You can’t be the worst public speaker. Because I hold that title lol.
Ha!
Mannnn. I want to join and use my degree to go to OTS but I was looking at their salary and its significantly lower than what I am making as a civilian. They really should offer more for technical or engineering careers.
Definitely consider it. It starts to add up quickly. Even more so if you're married.
This may be a naive question, but I’ve read some different information on this. I’m 34 and have a bachelors degree and work in Sales at a Market Research/Consulting form. If I were to join, am I automatically starting out as an officer (doesn’t seem right, but I’ve read that). If so, are those older folks “resented” for not having gone through the ranks “normally”? Thanks in advance!
Hey Davon all good. You won't automatically start out as an officer unless you're getting a direct commission. I believe that's for Dr's, Lawyers, etc. You'll go in either as enlisted trainee or officer candidate. Each one you'll have to go through their basic training. You'll find that a lot of us enlisted guys have our degrees. It's pretty normal in the Air Force. As far as being resented, not at all. Everyone has their role and they're all respected for the most part. Let me know what you decide!
Erik thanks, Erik. I really appreciate the feedback and will let you know if I do. Thanks again.
@@erikminamihata hey Erik, is it possible to be a part-time officer in the guard or do you have to be full-time? Are you able to choose the location you serve in and could I keep my current career/job if I enlist to go directly in to the OCS? Thanks again for all of your help!
Erik as a Hispanic what changes do I have to get in what branch at 39?
Hey Jaime thanks for the comment. At 39 your only challenge would be to get in before the age cut off. I would definitely start working with a recruiter ASAP. Your choices are Air National Guard, Air Force Reserve, Air Force (Active Duty), Coast Guard Reserve, and Navy Reserve. Double check on the Sea stuff as I'm not 100% on those. You can't go wrong with any of those branches but definitely look into the Air side 1st! Keep me updated!
Nice video
Thanks!!!
Hey Erik,
I’m 37 and about to graduate with an IT degree in IT Security. What’s the chance of me going straight to OTS without any prior military experience? Are IT folks needed right now?
It's definitely possible. Just hustle and don't get discouraged. Make sure to get your packet together as much as possible before reaching out to a recruiter to show that you're serious. Let me know how it goes!
@@erikminamihata Thank you sir! Will do, love the content, subscribed!
How hard is it to be a medical officer in the ANG, and how long was your process to get in as an officer?
It really depends on the need of your local Guard unit. I'd high suggest reaching out and trying to make an appointment with an officer recruiter. For me, it took me about 3 years to get to the point where the opportunity presented itself but for medical it will be a different story. Let me know if you need any help.
To apply as an officer, do they only look at undergraduate gpa? Or do they also look at graduate gpa too?
Hey Justine, I believe just your undergraduate GPA. Double check with your recruiter but I believe thats the case. I think having the MBA will help with your package for sure though. Are you going to go for it?
Erik okay because I wasn’t sure if having graduate degrees would help. Undergrad I was communications. But I have my masters in information technology and currently have a career into it. I was interested in Air National Guard because of the IT security opportunities it has and I currently work as an IT systems analyst as well.
Hi Erik, I wanted to see how your experience in the Air Force is thus far? I contacted a recruiter and he wants me to fill out a pre-qualifying questionnaire. I am getting excited but I am at there maximum enlistment age which makes me worried whether or not they will accept me. Is there any way, I can reach you to talk more in depth about the air force?
How did it go with the recruiter?
Hi Erik, So far I passed everything except for the weight part on the pre-qualifying checklist according to the recruiter. He told me when I get down to the max weight limit to join to text him back and he would schedule me for an appointment. I also was able to take the PCAT and he said I would qualify for any air force job.
As a officer do you work part time?
Question. Why didnt you go full active duty? In instead of guard?
Hey Cofeel. Basically it came down to deciding if I wanted to uproot my family and my wife's career. We found that joining the Guard and being close to our family was the best of both worlds.
@@erikminamihata did you ever feel after going thru bmt. That you wanted to go full active? Because of all the hard work.
Being in your 40's, were you limited to certain jobs?
Not at all. Everything is wide open....except pilot of course.
How you doing now man? Are you still in? Are you still trying to commission?
Does this new Officer age rule still apply?
Yeah, I went through the Officer application, testing, and board process. I didn't make it but yeah definitely still a thing.
I just confirmed this with my recruiter. It's true.
Legit! You going to go for it?
Erik, any update on your officer application/journey?
Hey! Still just riding out the enlisted thing. I actually like being enlisted a lot. How are things going with you?
Hey Erik, any further update on your officer application?
I wish I could join the Air Force
Go for it if you can!
Would you have went Army if Air didn’t take you?
Absolutely! I just wanted to get in before it was too late and everything lined up for me with this branch.
I think the Air Force will take care of its members more. Happy for you!
Give us a update !
Coming soon, promise! Crazy year for sure hahah
Hey bro...what is the age limit for fighter pilots in ANG
Hey Jeff i think it's 28 but I'm not 100% sure. Which state are you in? Maybe I can get you in contact with the right person.
So i am not a US citizen....i will be getting my green card next year and will be 32 by the time i qualify for citizenship by naturalization....thats why wanted to know the age limit for fighters in ANG..any feedback will be genuinely appreciated ...thanks a lot again
