      GS, since you love making Me262 video's make one with the Me263, Bf109 and Fw190. Then leave the Me262 in the hanger.
      Then you could fly the Bf109 against the Fw190. Then the Fw190 vs. Bf109 and tell us which is easier to get kills with.😃👍

      just climb away and everything will be fine

    • @M4xPower
      @M4xPower 2 года назад +99

      The aircraft's best climb speed is near its top speed. Jets gain 'horsepower' as their airspeed increases. Nothing can climb fast with the 262, but steep climbs are a no no. At around 500 km/h and above, the 262 ought to have a climb rate advantage, and that advantage should get higher and higher as the chase becomes faster. The 262 will still have a major percentage of its climb rate above the P-38's top speed, at which the P-38 can't climb at all (while maintaining it speed by definition). I think escaping this situation could have played out like 1. Get out of guns range. 2. Achieve around 600 km/h TAS 3. climb at an attitude gains or maintains airspeed.

      You cant throttle the me262 engines up or down rapidly, you have to go up really slowly otherwise the engines will overheat and catch fire, and go down slowly otherwise you will have a flameout, the throttle also cant go under about 20-30% while in flight otherwise you will flameout, in the 262 you pretty much stay between 80-100% throttle the entire time until landing, normally when I land I take about 30 seconds to go from 90% throttle to 40%

    One of the biggest problems for the ME262 aside from being bounced in the landing pattern, was sheer weight of numbers fielded by the allies.
    They would dive in and blast some allied aircraft but then be swarmed by a ratio of as high as 15-1 by Mustangs and other air defense fighters while they were trying to engage an enemy.
    Even with its speed it struggled to survive against such heavy opposition flown by very experienced pilots.

      Yes! He nearly bought the farm so to speak. People don't realize how slow those old turbojets were to make power for take-off. It's why our runways were massively long for the USAF in those early years. The thrust levels were pitiful and you could not just firewall the throttle, you had to ease it in over 30 seconds or so, watching EGTs like a hawk.

    They have a real Me262 in the NAS Pensacola Aviation Museum and it's so interesting to check it out in detail and see the differences between the German engineering and the US Naval planes of the same era. It is very obviously a different philosophy.

    • @IrishCarney
      @IrishCarney 2 года назад +21

      @@DefinitelyNotEmma It wasn't that they feared the 262 so much they were protecting the Meteor from a superior aircraft. They were keeping the Meteor's tech from falling into enemy hands if shot down. So they were forbidden to fly over German-held territory (or even Soviet-held territory, by the way). The British were actually hoping to bait 262s into combat against Meteors -- over Allied-held territory.

    You can sometimes put out an engine fire in an ME262, if you shut off the engine that is on fire, and point the nose straight down, it extinguishes it, worked a couple times for me.

    My grampa was an aircraft mechanic in England during the war and he begrudgingly said that the sound of the me 262 engines was one of the best sounds in the world. Even compared with later jets.

    That silly movie about black pilots in their Mustangs had that scene in which one heroic Mustang pilot went head to head against a Me 262 and was hit with a torrent of 30mm bullets which he and his plane survived lol

    I remember flying the 262 in Chuck Yeager's Air Combat. It lures you into a false sense of security. You start to feel Invincible.

    Me262 is always fun until one of the engines starts flaming out, because you forgot and messed with the engine power controls. What I also liked in Il-2 1946 about flying one was the blinding cannon flash. That was also fun, but in a sick sort of way.
    Obviously the Gloucester Meteor was also a thing back then. Operational since July 1944.
    06:30 that's not the first time I've seen you go for the cockpit. Marseille also did that, I prefer to go for engines more, like some others. It's like a karma thing, even though it doesn't exactly work out that way sometimes, but other pilots do notice that about your style in RL.

    ME 262 was the 1st jet fighter......but it wasn't perfect! The UK's Spitfire mk 14 was the 1st plane to shoot it down.
    The P51 did it also.
    BUT the Tempest was by far the most successful.
    The ME262 wasn't a finished jet fighter (thank god) and in a dogfight the ME262 couldn't turn, it was only good at shooting then moving.
    A Germany pilot Hubert Lange said the Tempest was by far the most dangerous opponent.

    Trying to climb away from a P-38 is usually not an easy thing to do. Although the ME 262 has a considerable speed advantage over the P-38, and a better climb rate than most WW2 fighters, the P-38 has a greater climb rate than the ME 262. However, if a P-38 and ME 262 are both at their maximum climb rate the ME 262 should cover horizontal distance more quickly; but the P-38's combination of speed, climb rate and concentrated firepower makes it very dangerous for enemy fighters trying to climb away. It should be much safer for an ME 262 to dive away, since the P-38's maximum safe diving speed was limited.
