The aircraft's best climb speed is near its top speed. Jets gain 'horsepower' as their airspeed increases. Nothing can climb fast with the 262, but steep climbs are a no no. At around 500 km/h and above, the 262 ought to have a climb rate advantage, and that advantage should get higher and higher as the chase becomes faster. The 262 will still have a major percentage of its climb rate above the P-38's top speed, at which the P-38 can't climb at all (while maintaining it speed by definition). I think escaping this situation could have played out like 1. Get out of guns range. 2. Achieve around 600 km/h TAS 3. climb at an attitude gains or maintains airspeed.

I think your next video has got to be a 1v1 dogfight between the p38 and the me262. Only with a twist, both fighters will employ differential thrust. GS make it happen man!
You cant throttle the me262 engines up or down rapidly, you have to go up really slowly otherwise the engines will overheat and catch fire, and go down slowly otherwise you will have a flameout, the throttle also cant go under about 20-30% while in flight otherwise you will flameout, in the 262 you pretty much stay between 80-100% throttle the entire time until landing, normally when I land I take about 30 seconds to go from 90% throttle to 40%
@@2bidfilmsguyI will have to take your word about the me262, but the p38 is another story, it performs very well with the differential thrust . Anyway, I think this kan be a very good match up, and I think others would like to see it happen.

Yes! He nearly bought the farm so to speak. People don't realize how slow those old turbojets were to make power for take-off. It's why our runways were massively long for the USAF in those early years. The thrust levels were pitiful and you could not just firewall the throttle, you had to ease it in over 30 seconds or so, watching EGTs like a hawk.

Although the ME 262 has a considerable speed advantage over the P-38, and a better climb rate than most WW2 fighters, the P-38 has a greater climb rate than the ME 262. However, if a P-38 and ME 262 are both at their maximum climb rate the ME 262 should cover horizontal distance more quickly; but the P-38's combination of speed, climb rate and concentrated firepower makes it very dangerous for enemy fighters trying to climb away. It should be much safer for an ME 262 to dive away, since the P-38's maximum safe diving speed was limited.
