This review was spot on, loved it. I was thinking before you even mentioned it about how cool it would be to have an infantry module in Tank Crew where you could be a Panzer Grenadier and ride into battle on the Panzers or Soviet infantry. Being able to play as infantry would knock this out of the ball park instead of just having infantry implemented as non playable.
Great review - I enjoy flying IL-2 and your series is really making it tempting to jump in to a tank. Enjoying your IL2 flight and tanking careers a lot!

@@Wolfpack345 The free trial tanks are misleading as they do not include all of the features and thus the true experience of the module. For instance I do not think interiors are modelled.

I wish Tank Crew and IL-2 in general would convince more of the free to play users from War Thunder or World of Tanks. I really think the majority of the free to play games don't know about existence of IL-2: Great Battles and Tank Crew. I don't know how the company can raise the awareness of it's games to the player base. I think selling on other platforms like Epic Games would help, maybe a free week grab for Battle of Stalingrad, like it was for Elite Dangerous last November (it literally added a fresh line of new players to the ecosistem, and even they got the base game for free, a big portion of them might buy the upcoming DLCs full price). So it is to expected that for one week were players will grab the Battle of Stalingrad for free, there will be many of them that will buy the other IL-2 modules, enlarging the player base while increasing the cash flow to pay for future development of the game (this might be a good business case, since more players playing the game means they will discuss with their friends and family about the game).
Well done! I just purchased recently and thought I would start with an overview of its options and capabilities, and you did an excellent job! Great review. I like you bought IL2 tank crew full price, and fully belive it to be worth it for what you get with $80, and less when it goes on sale, is a fantastic deal compared to other tank games on the market.
Thanks for the video. I stumbled upon this game/DLC because I just bought an early access VR tank sim game that's only a pvp arena. After your detailed review on the facts of the game/DLC, I'm sold on the current sale.

I just bought it because of our boy Wolfpack and I've been enjoying it so much so far. They're planning on expanding it more as well, so there will be more content in the future. It's the best WW2 tank sim I've played. Short of Steel Beasts Pro (which isn't much of a game, much more on the simulator side of things), there's nothing better out there.
@@LordAlfrednl Yes, it is standalone. Here is a thread where Shramrock says as much: forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/38655-is-tank-crew-a-separate-game/ Every IL-2 BO:X product is standalone, there's no "base game" you need. That is of course only via their store. On Steam, one MUST OWN Battle of Stalingrad to use Tank Crew. This is why you don't want IL-2 on Steam.
An excellent and fair review, and also a love letter to the dedication of the developers who've delivered one of the best simulators. I personally can't get enough of IL-2:GB, and is my all-time favorite game. As a side note, and being a fan of Graviteam's Steel Fury and Steel Armor (and anything by Graviteam, for that matter), the IL-2 team could learn a few things from Graviteam's implementation of virtual armor with infantry. Keep up the fantastic work, Wolfpack!
In a dynamic campaign you could start as a commander of a tank and then try to work your way up to squad/platoon leader as for mission you could have convoy escorts or interception mission were you try to reinforce a battle, the possibility’s are endless, yes it would be smaller scale and a bit janky compared to the flight one but that can be worked out over time it would definitely add a lot more playability since I can see my self never touching tanks again after I complete the story missions, I’m not much of a multiplayer guy that’s why I prefer the dynamic campaign.

Great video and I really appreciate you spreading the word about this awesome game! I have played IL-2 for a couple years being mostly into planes. I never thought I'd be much into tanks unless it was destroying them from an airplane, but after spending some time in TC and experiencing servers like Advance & Secure, Finnish Virtual Pilots, and some well done single player missions, I'm hooked!
Very enjoyable review. I started flying on Finnish server recently after a long, long break from any flight sim in about 8 years (offline and online), so this is great gameplay integration with tanks and planes. Spot on re: keybinds...and that's also a flaw in IL2...very frustrating for old vets.
I enjoy tank crew a lot, just alone the fact that you can do complex combined arms missions with planes and tanks puts it way ahead of anything else on the market for me

They’re currently $20.00 USD each right now, and only available for pre-order last I checked, but should be here soon! As for the binoculars.... Can’t remember...

@@michaelewert9038 I bought pazer elite off gog few months back, hardly played it at all. Its truly archaic even with the mods made to modernise it. I think the mods were themselves made over a decade ago so modern by 10 year old standards I guess lol. Might fire it up again give it another shot
The crew management would be OK if you took a bit to set up Voice Attack for it. Then you can just yell at your crew like a real commander! I've been holding out for ages, but once this goes on a sale I'll likely pick it up. Nothing wrong with a little bit of variety in my IL-2 Great Battles series :)
Red Orchestra 2 does the commander well. If you are alone in the tank you can either move the tank directly by wasd with a bit of dilay because you are actually ordering the driver to move, or you can set a marker and the driver will drive to that position. You can also order the gunner to turn the turret by simply clicking in a direction. When you have real people maning the tank, you can still use these commands to tell the other person where to go even without voip. Quite unfortunate that combined arms maps arent very popular in the game.
I wish they would add VR controller support, I want to actually move my hands and do stuff manually. Unless they added that without me realising. I want to pretty much play Fury in full VR
In real life situations, you'll find that the drivers vision device gets grimey, when the main gun is fired in close proximity to the driver's vision device. And often enough, the driver must open hatch and clean the vision block by hand.
Good honest review. I bought on a 50% sale just now and am yet to try it out. I love tank games such as Post Scriptum and Hell Let Loose, but want something a bit more in depth (although PS is getting there). Will be cool to see how this game compares. Kinda keen for the single player element too
Another thing is if it wasn't mentioned. People who don't have TC but only the flightsim modules still can get allong with a friend who does have TC as a gunner and such because its multi crew.
I play on the Finnish Pilots server a lot, just flying and it is great to be able to play in conjunction with ground units will be interesting to see what happens when the player controlled AA units become available
great review thanks! How are you setting up comms with other players? How is multiplayer these days? still enough players and some improvements since your review with updates? Have you tried in VR?
You should check out Steel Armor. I hope IL2 goes in that direction for the damage visuals simulation. Right now the explosions as it stands now looks kinda funky.
reminds me of Aces High II. great combined arms game that is almost 20 years old. hundreds of players on one server, tanks planes and ships in a good simulation.
So.. is there infantry, AT guns, etc? I don't see a tank sim without infantry, (having played "Steel Fury: Kharkiv 1942" where the overall combined arms tank similation was top notch)
AT guns yeah but theyu are either useless or OP as fuck (depends on the skill of the missionmaker), infantry no but there will be there S0oN (TM). I wouldn't recommend TC to anyone anyway.
Did the development ever get around to supporting at least some form of AI infantry? And are there actually any plans to expand on more Tank Crew content?
Excellent Review. TC is an excellent module to accompany IL2...plenty of goodies(missions/campaigns/skins) avail on the Forum/Community...well worth the investment!
Nice review, I think totally like you on the key mapping section. They should add personalized key maps for every plane and tank, or at least separate the tank and plane ones... Personally I think I will wait for this product to be more polished, or for another DLC as Normandy tanks or something.
When you say that ballistics are properly modelled, does it model terminal ballistics accurately? Are you able to provide a source that shows how this game simulates ballistics. Thanks
3:49 Wolf: Talking about putting on and removing side skirts. Me: okay *Then shows a Panther without side skirts Also me: Oh my god! Put them back on! Put them back on!
I would have liked to know more about the crew / friendly / enemy AI? Do your crew AI perform reasonably? Do they follow orders? Do AI tanks do sensible things? Do they see through trees / smoke /darkness?
Very good review! However I disagree with you about the career mode! I think it will work like the career mode with airplanes and it should be added for Tank Crew as well. The historical narrative helps with the immersion, especially for single player. Well, scripted campaigns might do that as well, you might answer. But I still think the debrief and the rewards and promotions, not to mention the leaderboard, is something in the career mode that adds to the immersion and isn't part of scripted campaigns.
I see what you mean. It is just hard for me to imagine how it would work properly. Expanding the Scripted Campaigns to include medals, promotions and everything would be nice.
Thank you for this review. I Downloaded war thunder many years ago because I want a better Tank sim than world of Tanks. IL-2 Tank Crew is what I was really looking for. $79.00 is a little steep for me right now as My good gamming computer crashed. plus I don't have the time to play for it to be worth while right now. Maybe when Infantry gets added I will be in a better position to buy and play.
It would be cool. But i dont see that happening soon... All the modules are basicaly ONE single game. Thank crew, Clash at prokorovka made a Lot of sence, in the fact that it sits right in the middle of whats already been done. Ground assets, planes etc where already developed for existing modules (Battle of X) In going for early war, admitedly very cool, would meen the need of new asets solely to give life to a theoretical tank crew 2... So my bet would be a 1944-45 setting. Using already developed asets from bodemplatte or Normandy... That being said, if they turn the whole development towards early 39-40-41 I would be very happy
Thank you for this review. I really like the interior and exterior details of the tanks. I just hope my fave game Post Scriptum could somehow be inspired to improve/enhance the interiors and armor performance/armor gameplay. One minor nitpick for me, I noticed is that when the crew, most notably the TC is out on his hatch, it seems the human model is a bit too small (about 15%) when comparing it with WW2 photographs.
Unfortunately, most tanks were not made for Tank on Tank Combat but Infantry support. Games like IL2 and War Thunder doesn't reflect that. The best experience, if not true simulation of Tank Combat I've experienced is Post Scriptum where Tanks support infantry, engage bunkers, and yes other Tanks.
Great video!! Just awesome. Then 09:13 pops up and i'm loosing it. Sorry for asking but how can i damage control? What is the key binding for this and can you use it thru out the whole game? Thanks in advance and please keep making videos like this, super!
Can you buy Tank Crew as a stand-alone? I checked the price on the site a while back and I was sure you had to buy IL2 + Tank crew to play it, well above 100€. Edit: you do have to buy both on Steam: 120€ for 1 tank game (I don't care about aircraft). It may be good but...

I have seen some members on the forum use voice attack. I should get it set up :)
First thing I thought of when I saw the menus at 8:20 ! This would be great with voice attack
I'll just watch you for now. Enjoying it.
Thanks!
I play on the Finnish Pilots server a lot, just flying and it is great to be able to play in conjunction with ground units will be interesting to see what happens when the player controlled AA units become available
the IL-2 1946 soundtrack is appreciated
Great review.
great review thanks! How are you setting up comms with other players? How is multiplayer these days? still enough players and some improvements since your review with updates? Have you tried in VR?
Nicely done! 👍
I'm a recent convert to Tank Crew. Now, nothing -- not my family, nor my job -- will stand in the way of me tanking.
Gotta secure that first draft pick, tank for #1!
I am glad you have your priorities in the correct order comrade.
The reason I bought IL-2 was for this DLC. Thanks WP. Need another tanker ? -- Holla.
I am on Finnish quite often ;)
@@Wolfpack345 I got no notification here until just now. Thanks. Keep an eye peeled.
Yay. Now I can play Red Orchestra 2 tanks but more sandboxy. Justa bit more animations and this will be perfect.
So.. is there infantry, AT guns, etc?
I don't see a tank sim without infantry, (having played "Steel Fury: Kharkiv 1942" where the overall combined arms tank similation was top notch)
AT guns yeah but theyu are either useless or OP as fuck (depends on the skill of the missionmaker), infantry no but there will be there S0oN (TM). I wouldn't recommend TC to anyone anyway.
Great upload.
Thanks!
I agree!
Can you play il2 with the Fw190 campaing?
I'm sure I will eventually haha
It seems weird to me that they included the Ferdinand but not the stug.
I think the Ferdinand fits more than the Panther. I understand why they did it. The Stug lacks the sex appeal that the Panther does.
@@Wolfpack345 maybe it will come in a update soon.
Thanks

Wolf: Talking about putting on and removing side skirts.
Me: okay
*Then shows a Panther without side skirts
Also me: Oh my god! Put them back on! Put them back on!
😂
I understand the price is high. I am sure a sale will roll around soon :)
Might wanna check out steel fury for tank sim.
I'd love to see early war tanks such those used in the Case Yellow or even tanks used in the Spanish Civil War.
It would be cool. But i dont see that happening soon...
All the modules are basicaly ONE single game.
Thank crew, Clash at prokorovka made a Lot of sence, in the fact that it sits right in the middle of whats already been done. Ground assets, planes etc where already developed for existing modules (Battle of X)
In going for early war, admitedly very cool, would meen the need of new asets solely to give life to a theoretical tank crew 2...
So my bet would be a 1944-45 setting. Using already developed asets from bodemplatte or Normandy...
That being said, if they turn the whole development towards early 39-40-41 I would be very happy
Excellent exposé of the game.
"Warheads on foreheads." Brilliant.
How does VR work in Tanks?
Do you think it handicaps the player due to spotting?
Immersion is cool, but winning is cooler....
I know it is VR compatible. No idea really about spotting. I expect it would be harder due to the low resolution of most VR headsets.
I address this in the review. They are adding infantry to the sim.
@@Wolfpack345 lol, Well that's what I get for only being half through the review before writing a comment :D
Great video!! Just awesome. Then 09:13 pops up and i'm loosing it. Sorry for asking but how can i damage control? What is the key binding for this and can you use it thru out the whole game? Thanks in advance and please keep making videos like this, super!
To bring up the menu you have to press "enter" To commence repairs you have to turn off the engine and open up a hatch.
@@Wolfpack345 thanks man!!
