The P-47 can feel a little "Pig-ish" when you first get her into the air but what I found was if you can get high and develop some room to dive on bandits and just avoid turn fighting and getting slow the P-47 can be a deadly deadly dogfighter, especially since once you line up a shot with those 8x 50cals you don't need much time on target to make that bandit melt. Anyway thanks for watching and I hope everyone is staying well.

The P47 isn't understood that well in popular war bird culture, it is heavy and big so it doesn't fight well down low however it has a turbo and has really good high altitude performance. In real life at high level it will out turn a lot of planes due to that power advantage.

When the Brazilian Air Force was choosing which one of the 3 American fighters (38, 47, 51) available to them, to fight in the Italian campaign in 44, the USAAF arranged lectures by American veterans in each of the 3. The P-47 one was R.S. Johnson. Story goes that after he told about his mission where he came back in a Thunderbolt full of German 8mm holes, the Brazilians were unanimous in the P-47 choice.
Its only logical after all, if you can choose, you choose to go to war in a fighter that can bring you back home alive.

Best WW2 fighter in a dive. The later bubble canopy versions had great visibility. There were American pilots who actually preferred it over the P51 because the P47 could take a vicious amount of punishment, protect the pilot and get him home safely. It was essentially a flying tank. It's why it became very useful in a ground attack role.

Awesome aircraft! One of the best ground attack fighters of the war because of its firepower and ability to absorb ground fire. My Dad was with a rifle company in France 1944 / 1945. He told me that P-47s would come in low strafing ahead of them, sometimes so close .50 casings were falling on their heads. Later models had a bubble canopy which allowed much better visibility. It seems like you can competently fly aircraft from any era.

Love the P-47. Sure, the Mustang and the Spitfire may have been slightly more sexy looking, but the Thunderbolt was a beast. However clumsy the P-47 may have been when flying low and slow, it was fast and nimble at high altitude (particularly 25,000 feet and above) where that turbocharged Pratt & Whitney Double Wasp R-2800 really kicked in (which many Luftwaffe pilots discovered to their horror). Of course any German attempting to dive away from a Thunderbolt was toast, pure and simple.

I usually just click the thumbs up button but I thought it would be nice for you to actually get a comment from a person. A friend of mine talked about dogfight videos one day and in return I told him about some too. Turned out that we both sub to your channel! Thanks for the 4k resolution upgrade you made. I probably don't have to tell you how absolutely fantastic it looks in 4k on a 120 inch screen? Secondly - the vr thing is truly great. It is not translatable to people who haven't tried it. It really isn't just like having a screen that is "more big". It's sad that the games that are developed for vr are mostly just some piss poor bow shooting things but for car sims there really is no going back for me. I see the same for the ww1 plane sim you play here. I'm using the rift s too. For a combat flight sim other than ww1 planes I would like more resolution but for car sims I have to say that I made my choice. There is no going back for me.

I remember a couple years ago you posted a DCS video about VR. Your conclusion at that time was that it showed promise but was just too muddy and lagged out for massive flight sims. The video showed this too, as it was not nearly as clear as the ones you made with track IR.
Fast forward 2 years and you are loving VR, as well as producing solid videos while using it. Shows how quickly some technologies advance.
Makes me wonder if we don't end up creating a neural interface that allows us to see in VR _inside our heads,_ so the immersion is total. Imagine a flight sim where you don't wear a helmet to see, any more than you'd wear one to see IRL. 😱 Who knows, it might even be possible to simulate the feel of flying, G loads included. 💥🤟

What’s nice is that no one actually dies in simulator games. They live to spawn in again. 😊

I want to get back into VR. The thing that's stopping me is buying a new gpu at these prices. Still rocking the 1080ti.

IL-2 should be playable on a 1080Ti in VR if you're not using anything higher than an Index at 90Hz. I was playing it on a 1080 with a Vive Pro until a months ago - there is some judder on the enemy planes when they fly past you, but generally it's fine.

I realize that the P-47 wasn't our *best* aircraft, but it's still my favorite. Only after listening to the stories of how its durability and rugged design saved the lives of its pilots several times in combat.
