Thanks for this primer. I pried the lid off the sump pit, checked to see if it was working by lifting the float, and then spent several hours cleaning out the pit and clearing the pump of world class gunk - absolutely epic gunk. And now it is working again! Thumbs up from this 67 year old woman homesteader.
I've been watching instructional RUclips videos for so many years, by now I must've seen thousands of 'em. Well I've never seen one better than this and his Homeowner 101 Home Buyer Warning. Totally believable, understandable, and knowledgeable. Sure wish this channel was still active, I woulda subscribed in a heartbeat.
I’ve watched a couple of videos on sump pumps but this is the only one that stuck. Michelob Ultra, Finding Nemo, you really got a way with keeping peoples attention. Thank you so much 🙏
I really liked this video. Cleaning the sump pit in my new home right now. My main pump failed. Replacing it with a Zoeller pro pak 98 with battery backup.
Thanks for the vid! My basement stank for the last 2 months, figured it was a blockage to the sewer or something so called a plumber. As I was clearing the work area for him before he arrived, I discovered the sump pump had somehow tipped over so hadn't been working for most of the summer (Luckily a dry summer!). Pit and pump were covered with a half inch of stinky goop, explaining the stench. Cleaned it all out then stuck a hose in the pit and filled it up several times to flush the whole system, back in business and saved a plumber visit :)
folks. Thank You for all the feedback. Post below what the next home video should be about. I am very happy that this video has been useful to so many people.
Appreciate this video. I'm going under my house today to make sure I just need to unclog the weep hole or replace the check valve. My sump pump will not shut off. It is draining water but it seems the float switch is faulty. So now I can inspect more completely. I have a maintenance appointment set but not until February. Need to do something now.
Thsnk you for explaining how a Sub Pump works xnd maintenance requirements for a single girl like me. I am always worried and nervous even my Pump goes on but, I now know it's working fine. I have to replace the discharge hose outside though, so I'll work on that! From Toronto, Canada 🇨🇦
Hi, this was super helpful. My sump pump recently clogged in the pipe, I'm guessing due to the build up. Can we use vinegar or CLR in our sump pump pit to clear it out?
I was hoping a few tips on sump pump maintenance. I tried to clean the impeller and the darn pump - as soon as I removed the 3 long screws - came apart into 5-6 pieces and oil all over the place. Of course the manufacturer no longer supports a 3 yr old sump pump and finding a 9.23 viscosity dielectric oil and replacement seals is mission impossible. I have a 1/2 hp Ridgid iron cast sub pump and is a spitting image of the one in this video but Ridgid no longer supports its pumps. I will look into Wayne pumps but only if they support their products.
Nice video. Thankfully I have kept my sump pit very clean. But after 8 yrs of operation, a few days ago I noticed that the pump stopped pumping the water out of the barrel anymore, i.e. the water level stays the same! I am having to shop vac the water out manually! Pretty cold outside and there is un-melted snow. I do see that the pump kicks in when I fill water in and even notice that the water in the pit gets warm after a while. but no out discharge happening!! Any idea what might be going on? Thank you for your help.
discharges can freeze in extreme weather. or the pump needs to be replaced. the pump is water cooled so its constantly running and water isnt going anywhere.,
@@jordanjohnson2520 Your are right on! It was a blockage in the exit pipe likely becoz of sub-zero temperatures. Cleared up today when the weather warmed up. Thanks.
Any suggestions or ideas concerning my particular problem. I just replaced my sump pump with a Wayne 1/2 motor power. The problem is when the water level reaches a certain point the "float" bulb doesn't kick on allowing the water to be removed? This bulb is within a razor thin degree of turning on and clearing the water. However, for some reason I always have to manually pull the bulb or float up to engage the motor to remove the water? Why is that? Not sure.
The float slides up and down, the stroke. You need to use something to keep the float lower. I would call wayne, and see if they have a rubber grommet with a slit you can put on the upper part of the bar the float moves on. If that does not work, buy a verticle float switch, follow directions, set it to your pipe at a deeper level than pumps max float height, then tie the float of your wayne in the on position and plug the wayne into the verticle float. They run under $45
I made a sump out of a 5 gallon bucket placed a pump in it for my AC discharge It was a condensate pump it was leaking when I went sump pump route no more leaks and can collect alot more water than a little condensate Any one want me to do a video on it just ask 😃😃
Thank you first time owner of a sump pump

Informative! And, if you watch at double speed while drunk, hilarious.

Aww...I was watching and you disappeared at the end! Sorry you are not still putting up videos. This is good information. Thanks!
thanks for this video.
Really great information, should I let the hot water from my furnace drain into the sump pump pit??
EXCELLENT!
Are you sponsored by Michelob Ultra, LOL. 🤣 Good info.
Thank you!
Thank you so much. Did not know this needed to be cleaned every now and then??? Wow , no wonder it started smelling UGH!!
Water will go stagnant bacteria will cause a smell if pump doesn't cycle to often
Thanks from Wondertucky, Il
lololololol I say that too!
Good video. I understand with the shop vac. Kind of hard to carry that shit up the stairs though.
put vac in window well, open window, send hose sections to pit. vac is now 2/3 way upstairs.
Thanks for making this video!
Have the same one ,there the best

Hey I love your videos I think we would hit it off I'm into stuff like this I just subscribed to your channel
