#SumpPump #AppleDrains #ZOELLER - Хобби
Be sure to watch the follow up. Installed This Pump in backyard. Pushing water 300 plus feet! Will it work?? Thanks, Chuck , Apple Drains
Thank you for sharing your knowledge I really like and I appreciate your videos
Where can I buy the
sump pump Zoeller M98?
And if I use the perforated French drain pipe does the end of the pipe grounded do I leave it open or put a cap or wrap it up with something
Before I buried it?
You should plumb the discharge into the other basin so the pumps have to fight each other
I am a diy, I decided to try the Drummond 1/2 hp. Single family home basement w/ basin & sump pump. I was considering a 1/3 Zoeller and a 1/3 everbilt sump pump. I didn't like the Liberty because it has a magnetic pump switch. Magnet in water, its bound to fail in my opinion. Drummond had a great value and its cast iron. I have had it for 2 weeks and it works great. It clears the water in one cycle in a few seconds, it's quiet and powerful. I recommend it. So far so good. I hope it lasts many years. If your wondering I don't think 1/2 hp is too much for a home. I will clean it once a year with a brush it should be fine. I shall see.
Just bought mine haven’t set it up yet but this video and this comment made me pull the trigger.
I ended up going with a Drummond 3/4 horsepower submersible sump-effluent pump to replace a failed Everbilt 1/2 horsepower pump recently...the pump is used to pump "gray" water out of a septic system. One thing I've noticed is the "tethered" float switches on effluent pumps fail quickly, usually within a year or two, sometimes less. These failed switches either cause the pump to run constantly, or not at all. The Drummond has a snap-action float switch that simply works better than the tethered floats I find on most other effluent-sump pumps. The Drummond ($199) also costs $130 less than the Everbilt which is a great price considering the pump is rated at 3/4 horsepower with 5400 GPH of outflow, compared to the 1/2 horsepower Everbilt rated at 3180 GPH outflow. The Everbilt is priced out at nearly $330 by comparison. The Drummond 3/4 HP effluent pump does an excellent job...runs relatively quietly and removes water faster than the Everbilt. The switch on the Drummond is also more reliable. Overall the Drummond pumps seem to work as well as Liberty or Zoeller, at a fraction of the cost. As a general installation tip...always drill a small hole in the outflow pipe somewhere before the check valve. I've seen pumps destroy themselves over the years from airlock situations.
This is a pump that should be tested with others on Project Farm.
that was very nice of you Chuck to run those comparisons. thank you. I have a water problem too in my driveway and yard so I'm going to use your advice
Chuck I’ll tell ya buddy I hand dug a hell of a deal 3 feet deep and around my house to put in a drain I also sealed the foundation with your recommendation of sealer I’ll tell you I learned so much from your videos when I ran into a problem I had already seen you solve it. It was awesome. You saved me thousands of dollars. I had to work like a horse for about 4 days but I got it done. Thank you again I love the videos you are an inspiration for sure
I’ve had this pump for three rainy seasons now. It’s been awesome and a work horse. If it ever goes out I’m buying the same one again.
My sump pump is a must and is needed with virtually every moderate or greater rain. I trust your expertise Chuck. Harbor freight is always a purchase that I need to give strong consideration. On tools, my opinion of Harbor Freight is that to get through a house project or two HF is a worthy buy but if it's something that I'm going to frequently use and am going to be dependent on then I'll spend a few extra bucks elsewhere. I'll try it out from what your video shows Chuck.
Thank you for a detail review!
I’ve been using the harbor freight model for several years. The pump works great but I’ve had two float switch fails where I have to manually turn the pump on and off
Fantastic video!!!! So detailed and precise. Excellent presentation. Great advise....Great teaching! Thank you!!!
Good demo Chuck 👍
Thank you for this - so much work went into your review. Thank you!
Nice I appreciate the reviews and comparisons, this is helpful.
Great video I looked on Harbor freight Inventory now they're all out Because of this video Great video I just have to wait till they can get some more in I bought M53 I will use the Harbor freight for a backup
Don't forget to use the 20% off coupon when buying the HF pump! Been using the Drummond for over a year now in a sump without issue - bought a spare for the inevitable failure, but so far, so good! If you need something with a lot more kick - there's a '2HP' Hallmark pump that runs on 240v for $160 now - also been fantastic pump for me.
I bought the m98 on recommendation and didn’t even look at other pumps. Still trenching for the perforated, but I’m sure the pump will be great!
Apple, you the best! Thank you very much
Hey Chuck, Have you ever used or considered Liberty pumps? They are made in Bergen, NY and that's what I have in my basement. BTW have been watching for over a year and you are the real deal. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Good comparisons, man.
Can't wait to see you hustling Raycons, Chuck.
Apple Drains, Thanks for the comparison. Where in Florida are you as Im in Venus Florida. The palmettos and the Pine trees gave it away.
Awesome tips
thanks for the video - the most important thing that matters to me is reliability - curious to know how it holds up - so far, I've tried Zoeller and Liberty pumps - both eventually had float switch failures but overall, I've had better luck with the Zoeller - costs a LOT more but I think it's worth it
Great review. Apparently Harbor Freight no longer carries the Drummond 1/3 hp cast iron 3300 gph sump pump. Wondering what you think of the Wayne CDU790 1/3 hp cast iron that also has a vertical float switch? Thanks!
Thanks for your great videos. Since the Dru,mmond 1/3 HP cast iron pump is no longer available, what are your thoughts on the 1/2 HP Drummond cast iron pump? HF directly compares it to the M98 and at half the price. Thank you.
This vid is awesome .thank you
How about the everbuilt cast iron 1/3 and 1/2 and 3/4 sumps at home depot? 3 yr warranty
Hey Chuck I'm in need a pump to pump out rain/snow melt out my side pasture that is now seeping into my front yard....most of the water is several I inches deep but the deepest part is just over 1ft. We get lots of rain. Harbor freight has 3/4hp rated at 4400gph pump but it says its stainless steel, Vs the M98 you were talking about in the video..what are your thoughts on what pump to buy for this type of project? I appreciate what you are doing keep up the good work.
David, WA state
I have a auto detailing shop with a floor drain. In the drain there’s a approximate 50 gallon basin with the actual drain on top of the basin. It starts to stink occasionally and would like a way to easily pump it out & disinfect the basin. What would you recommend? I thought about maybe a boat bilge pump but not sure. Thanks
Any feed back on the RUMMOND
1/3 HP Submersible Sump-Effluent Pump With Vertical Float Switch 3300 GPH?
How low the water get before it stops? Can you hold the float up and pump a pool almost totally dry?
will the harbor freight pump stand the test of time? We don't want the pump going bad when you need it
How long can these be run continuously? Thankyou
I am turning on the power to the pump but not starting, is there any additional switch, or I missed something to get this pump started?
I just looked this pump up on HF, it is on clearance for $130.
Recently bought a new house that we've since found out was built on a natural spring. We live on a wet hillside so you can imagine we need good drainage and sump pumps. I want something quiet but still a workhorse, now that it's getting drier it's time to install new pumps, in this case, what do you rec? I can't find anyone local who I feel is unbiased or who really cares about our situation. I'm talking about crawl space pumps here, not yard pumps. The yard never takes on water unfortunately the basement has in the past (from what I can tell). Any guidance will be appreciated.
Hi! I have a concern. I purchased this Harbor Freight sump pump and it has 2 plugs...does the one in this video have 2 electrical cords. Secondly, why does it stay ON all the time? I understood the paper to say it is in standby mode when plugged up...not actually ON PUMPING
Would the stainless steel model be better?
What is the current draw from each. A good 1/3 HP pump will draw about 3.5 amps. A not so good one draws 10 amp amps. Important difference if you use a battery backup with inverter. I use Wayne pumps.
Nice video but I would have liked to see them tested under a load by making them lift the water by 25 feet this would tell which pumps are truly 1/3HP. The second test is how long they will last since they are all cast iron. How good is the coating that protects the iron inside and out.
Help,, help,,, I have 2 drummond 1/2 horsepower pumps,, the impeller has broken on both,,,, where can I find a replacement impeller,,, I cannot find it... thx for your help
I got this same pump yesterday I was pumping some water from a well and the power cut for about 30 seconds then I checked the pump it stopped and it won’t work can someone tell me what to do
What brand of catch basins are those? Where can I find them?
Ya, for a sump pump, I'm going to stick with Made in USA that has a track record. Great review though and love the channel!
Drummond are great pumps, but they have a metal shaft and not a STAINLESS steel shaft. For that reason I wouldn't leave it submerged. I'd use it and pull it up! Using it that way would make the Drummond pump last a very very long time.
I bought a Drummond and absolutely love it! I use it and pull it up.
I'm a lady who lives alone. My. Sump pumps float switch needs changing..can you do a video on how to change this. Thank you.
Is the impeller metal?
What up, I use Harbor freight sewage Pumps Instead of a regular one. last 12 years.
Sounds like a great tip - Thanx
Chuck, you don't recommend the Drummond for the backyard? Thank you for the video as always great job.
Hi Kevin! Actually it works pretty good. The one I installed has been functioning great. I still prefer Zoeller m98.
Half horsepower and I’ve been using it for so long without any real problems.
Thanks
Chuck
@@appledrains thank you very much for your reply and great videos, keep up the good work.
@@appledrains Over the last month we've had a lot of rain and my Zoeller sump pump quit on me after 22 plus years. I don't know which one it was because it's covered with so much crud. I want to get another Zoeller but pumps are sold out everywhere although I did see a Wayne 5yr. warranty one at Ace. I went to HF yesterday and seen the SP you were comparing and I'm intrigued. I don't know what HP my Zoeller was 1/3or 1/2 but it's in my garage right off of a 6in step up walkout basement. I've learned so much over the last few weeks so when I finally get a pump I'm going to make where I can detach it easier for cleaning and maintenance, something that was never done on the last one. Do I need a weep hole?
I call the longevity into question with HF pump which I base upon my experience in dealing with the products. lets see a longevity test in real world conditions.
I have a 2 harbor freight sump pumps that are over 7 years old. I have a zoeller m98 and a little giant pump as a backup if they ever fail. They get alot of use as my basement is half terra cotta and half stacked field stone with lime mortar. I have both hooked to basement watchdog float switches.
@@biffmalibu3733 Thanks, i'll keep that in mind when I need to replace mine... I have been hearing good thinks about the HF pump and hearing a lot of bad things about Zoeller pump switched going bad.
Good demo! I just installed a ridgid 1/3 hp in my basement. What are your thoughts on the pump?
The Ridgid line are rebranded Wayne pumps. I have one of their cast iron 1/3 hp pumps, and I can share my experience. Like many pumps, the switch is the failure point, and isn't covered by the warranty. Mine went after six months, my basement flooded, which is never fun. I bought a Zoeller and also a Hydrocheck electronic float switch. It's two sensors, never needs to cleaned, has been tested over a million cycles, and a 5 year warranty. For the hell of it I left the Ridgid in the pit with the float zip tied and it's been rock solid for 18 months, Zoeller sitting on a shelf in the box. I live in New England so it gets a workout with the weather and high water table. The two sensors let you select the on and off points, and has alarms that will let you know if you've got an issue. The Levelguard switch is excellent as well, and even simpler. Peace of mind knowing the main failure point is out of the equation with any pump. The pump itself is actually very solid, and the top intake pretty much eliminates the airlock possibility. I've since installed a backup Ion pump too. flooded basements suck
@@dubester1982: Had a flotec ¼ hp pump & didn't take long for the sensor to fail, so I'm curious if your hydo check still works 4u - Thanx
@@DonTerhune1200ccit's still working flawlessly, not a single problem. We have had a lot of rain here in the Northeast over the last month and my pump has been running quite a bit. Still very happy with it, and that Ridgid with the bad switch is still in the pit with the Hydrocheck. Highly recommended!
The question is how far will the druummond 1/3 hp utility 1600 gph pump push waste water ?
I'm using about 275' of 3/4" hose ?
Will this drummond do this job ?
Please advise
Yes
Would you use a half horsepower drama in your house basement
1/3 hp in basement is good 1/2 hp is better
Bro, do you even lift?
I'm a DIYER where can I buy a Zoeller M98?
Try Lowe’s
No cast iron 1/3 hp pump available from HF.
"Soooo much faster"?? What a couple seconds?
Honestly, the m98 is really not that much faster.
i hate magnetic floats also the Barracuta 1hp pump float is cheap plastic and breaks
Chuck-you know the main issue is long term quality. Zoeller made in Louisville, KY>>communist China. Also do we really want to do business with a country that tries to steal any intellectual property they can?
Too late now Joe is running the ship.
I hate Chinafreight! I would buy the Zoeller any day of the week even if it was crap. We need as Americans to stop buy crap from China. However it doesn’t seem to matter to anyone anymore 😔
sorry to say but the phone or tablet or PC you used to write your comment was most likely manufactured/assembled in China. Apple products (whom is an "American" company) is the worst of the bunch as all their products are assembled by Foxconn to minimize costs.
@Chill Will Foxconn exists, also your TV and most likely your "American" car was assembled in Mexico or in another country that isn't the US, those are just facts.
@Chill Will with parts made around the world....., that's my point, which you are trying to ignore, it's the global economy doing its work
Too late China owns your ass!!!
Good video, but I am done with supporting the red state. The overwhelming majority of products from HF are made in CHY-NAH. Any chance I can these days, I support USA manufactured items. Folks need jobs here in our country!!!
My stop working 6 months ..they mot want refund my money..just trash
