- In a slight departure from my recent content, a friend of mine asked me if I'd be willing to share his friend's (Phil Zarecki) speech for World AIDS Day in 2023. I happily obliged and I think continuing to share these types of stories in even greater depth is a huge value for our community.

Thanks!
Thank you so much!
Raif as someone diagnosed in 1987. I would enjoy hearing others stories. Thanks for not forgetting those who sometimes feel forgotten
Okay, great to hear. Thx Steve
Yes i would love to hear long term survivor stories.... they are unsung heroes.
I was diagnosed full-blown AIDS in Spring 1982 (62 T cells) ... I'm still here baby: 68 years young and healthy
Wow that's awesome and amazing.
How did you maintain yr disease yar?
Congratulations! You’re a shining example 🌟
At last, someone who also remembers GREAT disco music!!
The treatment of HIV has transformed over the decades to now taking a daily pill and achieving a undetectable status. However we should never loose sight of what it was like for a diagnosis in the 80's and 90's. No effective medication and what was available caused serious side effects to the body. People were treated like lepers, ostracised, pushed away by family , friends and the medical profession. Probably lost their jobs , homes and swept away as though their lives never existed.
But they are never forgotten and I show such gratitude for if it was not for them I would not have the healthy ,fit life I have today(diagnosed 2018) as basically they were the Guinea pigs for effective medication today
To all the long term survivors I offer my gratitude, love and rejoice in their courage and strength
Waiting for more such inspirational videos on long term survivors. We love everyone in the community and Raif is an inspiration for me since day one of my diagnosis when it felt like the end of the world to me.Its the videos on this channel that gave me the hope to rise and fight . Thanks Raif for the incredible work you doing 🙏🙂
Oh wow, thank you so much for that heartfelt comment. I appreciate you very much! and am so thankful that my content helped you in an otherwise difficult time ❤️🙏🏽
Hi Raif , by all means do more videos about people that survived with AIDS ! I think it's encouraging to all of us whether we have AIDS or not not to give up on life !❤️
Thank you for the input Dennis
I experienced that violent shivering many times, every time it was a sudden drop of my CD4 count sometimes with health consequence, and every time, just like Phil, it was due to stress.
Stress is such an under-appreciated factor in our health
Raif! Great video! Thank you for all you do! My only comment is, as always, big pharma has no advantage to coming up with the cure. I've heard that the cure is around the corner since the late 80's. You're looking great, and as always you're a great source of encouragement!
I was hospitalized in summer 2002, they told my parents I was gonna die really soon, I was 41.
A special nurse & doctor w/new Meds saved me...Seizures followed, but still kicking!
Having come out in SF in 1980.... AIDS survivor, 22 years now... kisses, David
Was here to help my parents as they died (am still amazed how bizzare life can be).
Stay strong.
Amazing, thank you for sharing some of your story ❤️
I think its a great idea.
As a survivor of 22 +years and an addict in recovery I have lost dozens of my friends. I'm only in my early 40s and am dealing with loneliness of having very few friends. I try to stay active in my recovery and working 25iah hours per week to supplement my SSD. I need d to make new friends but there is the fear that I'll lose them and as an extroverted people person this is a struggle and something Im trying to get over and work through. Only being sober for 9 months it's a tough void to fill. Wish me luck and prayers to get over this hurdle. This will pass, it's only a season of life and I know I'll get past this and shine! Ty.. ❤
Good luck and much love ❤
@@hugofabian1146 Thank you Hugo ❤️
Please forgive the ignorance of my question. I come from a religious background and family and was/am afraid of sleeping with another guy-but basic human wants/needs/biology are finally winning.
I am a bisexual man. I have been with women, but I really want to try with a man. I want both the physical and emotional intimacy that comes along with it. I want to explore my other half.
I have used condoms with women. How effective are condoms in situations where its two men? Specifically, I want to be the "active" partner (top). How effective would condoms be at protecting me from an STD? The reason I don't ask about how effective it would be at protecting the other guy us because its been over 5 years since I have slept with anyone and I know (100%) that I have no STDs. Thus, there's 0 danger in my infecting whoever will be the other guy.
90 percent I believe. I suggest the following
1. Don't stop using condoms
2. Go on prep and follow the treatment exactly
3. Get your partner tested before sex to know his status
4. Even if your partner is negative still use condoms because if he cheats and becomes infected your still safe
Undetectable does mean it can't be transmitted but it's better to know so you can be safe. Avoid bug chasers and gift givers at all cost and also respect yourself and no matter what anyone says or does stay safe and vigilant.
Sorry if I'm offensive to anyone. And I mean no disrespect
I'm hiv negative and I have no STDs because I always without fail have only safe sex. Stay safe don't let anyone or anything convince you to do otherwise . Also never be ashamed of your negative hiv status. U= U meaning undetectable does = untransmitable but in order for you to be safe it's better to know and also one other thing avoid bug chasers and gift givers at all cost. Avoid anyone who wants to get you infected with HIV in other words don't get into a committed relationship where the partner wants you to get HIV.
Please forgive me if I'm being rude and offensive
A lot of my friends and classmates died from AIDS and my friends all 4 of them are long term survivors who got infected in 1985 gave me this advice. Yes three were gay and 1 man was hertersexal and got it from a woman
I have been positive since 2007 and and I deal with anxiety and depression and medication for that as well.
❤
This was a fantastic video Raif… and yes, what a fantastic idea with regards to a podcast for long term survivors.
Thx Peter! ❤
@@RaifDerrazi Really looking forward to what you have to bring. Keep up the fantastic work my friend.👏👏👏
I believe those who survived had a slower reduction in CD4 cells and went many years without ART. I made it 6 years 😭
I was a hopeful person but I am not anymore I mean I have not like I did a few years with not taking my medicine and hoping I would get Aids already and die have been thinking of trying to see if it would work again and maybe I could get sicker but who knows. Thank you
Bro plz start medication as as possible they are many advanced drugs are available in our market so plz don't loose hopes even medicines are free of cost by governments ,I'm pretty sure you will be fine with medications ,think it's just like a multivitamin tablet
Can I expect cure by 2027 ?
Not sure it will be in my generation. I will be 45 in July so will not reach me.
I lost several friends to HIV/AIDS in the 80s and 90s. I'll never forget them
I'm so sorry 😔 I know what that's like I lost friends in 1990s due to aids. And In 2015 l lost a very close friend to Aids and hep c.
cure vaccine which year bro
No one can predict
In paradise on earth🙏
Anyone experiencing tinnitus as a POS? Could it be from the medication?
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏😪😪😪😪😪😪
There is a long term survivor playing the role of the former fire captain on the series "911". Very lipodystrophic. People looking like that have largely removed themselves from view due to stigma. Many people who took the first cocktails ended up looking like that. If this comment is too "outing", delete it, Raif.
