- Marc Franke, otherwise known as the 'The Dusseldorf Patient' chose to remain anonymous about his cured status for some time. Recently he has decided to be visible and more vocal in hopes to advocate for the cure and future stem cell donors. He is one of a small handful who have received a bone marrow transplant to treat his leukemia, and the donor has the CCR5 Delta 32 mutation that would render Marc immune to HIV-1. I was honored to sit down and get to know Marc, overcoming his cancer and HIV diagnoses and his new found inspiration to help others.

Such great news..Excellent! I can remember my MD the great F Pearl McBroom ( Marina del Rey) suggesting we have lunch to discuss HIV/AIDS. I had sent her a patient, a client of mine, that was always sick. I had never heard of HIV/AIDS....Over the next year I sadly saw several people I knew in some way, die of the disease.
Hope more success in curing the disease with stem cells....Think there is work being done in Medellin at a famous stem cell clinic.....Great story. Thank you and good wishes.

Why can’t the people who have the steam cells that are resistant to HIV donate it to the people who have HIV ?
Nobody is obliged to donate a part of their body to anyone else. It’s the same concept when it comes to pro-choice stance.

@johnferradino there are some genetic testing companies, you know ones like 23 and me, etc, but I'm not sure if specific ones look for that ccr5 deficient allele. Look it up or research them. They will list if you have ccr5 or not etc.

Im a hiv positive also but I already stop taking my ARV more than 3 years from now I dont experienced any problem even if I stop my medication but I know the virus are sleeping inside my body. Im just lucky that even if im not taking any medication my body still feel normal.

I only wish I could help get the cure for my current husband /partner of 25 years as well as my ex-partner of 9 years . I’m negative and it tortured me that I could not fight the virus for them ! Both are undetectable and both have the best current cocktail 🙏. But a true cure would eradicate the hidden virus inside their bodies that can quickly replicate if they went off meds . He received stem cells with a genetic resistance to HIV. Those stem cells went in his body and spread giving HIM the genetic resistance as well (is the simplest way i can think to explain it)

It's sad it's more men than women to be cured it's like they are only doing it on men . I'm a woman wishing and praying to be cured, but I get treated like crap from the medical doctors . I was once told to tell them that I was shooting up drugs and I have never done drugs in my life .
