This hit me hard, I once said I can't wait to grow up and get a job to buy all the games I want,
I grew up and got a job but I no longer have time to play.
8 hours working + 8 hours sleeping leave only 8 hours to do everything else in life!
I am now looking to play a game in the summer and Octopath Traveler has been on my radar, but a BIG negative that makes me hesitate to pick up is how every reviewer says it is a long game and you have to pace yourself.
Another game on my radar is Persona 5 Royal which also requires a lot of time to complete (a loading panel in the game literally says to "Take Your Time")
I wish I could sell something for a crazy amount of money to last me and my family a lifetime, then I could play as much as I want.

You definitely don’t want to exclusively pursue one storyline at a time. That’s why you’ll be a dozen levels or more shy of the recommended for the next chapter. It’s designed for all the characters to be experienced asap! Usually once you have a full party plus one or two, you can start looking at some chapter 2s

it's a hard game i would say. Or at least for me. Its not impossible, but its a grindy game.Chapter 1 is a breeze, but the difficulty really kicks in in chapter 2. Not that i have anything against that. But i think newcomers to jrpgs they will have hard and frustrating moments with it. Very rewarding tho. My favorite game on the switch this year. By faaar.

    • @LaLtheGaL
      @LaLtheGaL 6 лет назад +7

Daniél Pinto Gouveia It would of course be my intention to finish Ys. However in the past, whenever I’ve stopped one big game to start another big game, some other game would come out and then I struggle to get back to the original one I intended on beating.
My most successful gaming habits is to have two, maybe three games on the go; one meaty big game and one or two smaller, less involved ones.
That said, I’m having A LOT of fun playing Ys, so much that it’s the only game I’ve been playing for 2 weeks. Thus it shouldn’t be TOO difficult to resist Octopath for now (I hope).

I'm actually quite happy to hear that it is a style of rpg that really wants you to invest time into it in order to progress through it. I think too many people rush through games in order to play the next one when a game in itself should be savored and enjoyed to its fullest. I actually like the sound of this games approach when it comes to transitional difficulty. I think some games should force you to grind because its no fun if you can generally coast through a game right to the end. I'm looking forward to giving this game a try when i eventually get a swtich.

Only 30% of players finish any given game. So people aren’t even rushing through so they can get to the next game.people just want games to be passive entertainment like television. The widest audience will be available for the product that asks the least out of its audience, like pop-music, junk food, television and young adult fiction books,

One of the complaints I've seen floating around is that the story is pretty sub par, and that the different characters aren't tied together very well.
I have found it to be the exact opposite. I loved how the motivations for each character to set out on their respective journey were so varied, and how it made sense that they would each form a bond with the main character that was at first as simple as just needing a companion for an adventure.

I'm not really a big fan of rpg's that force you to grind, but I can understand compromises has to be made for a game as non-linear as this one. A much bigger compromise is the lack of interactions between party members. I understand why it has to be this way, but it's something I usually really enjoy in JRPG's of this style, so I can't help but complain a little. Other than that I'm loving this game to death. The soundtrack, and especially the boss tunes are fantastic.

I still can't believe the character artwork wasn't done by Akihiko Yoshida. It looks _exactly_ like something he would draw, but apparently it's done by a guy named Naoki Ikushima, who designed the monsters for the Bravely Series. Maybe he's just aping Yoshida's style, but he's damn good.

I liked how you made an effort to avoid using the word grinding. This is a game appealing to that generation that few with SNES/PS1 jRPGs. Can't believe we're so niche right now when every gamer played these games back then.

True! But we can't really blame this new new tho, bc kids grow up with cinematic-realistic games that are beautiful at first glance but falls short in terms of story and gameplay. These are the games that sells consoles and what not.

Late to the party on this one. When I first saw a trailer for this, I was instantly drawn to it. For some perspective, I have played one RPG in my life and it wasn't ever from this century XD It was the original Dragon Warrior for the NES. That was only because I got it from being a subscriber to Nintendo Power and it came with all these great guides and an overworld map! Needless to say, I don't play RPGs. I love everything about them except the turn based combat, that is the turn off for me. However, something about this game seemed really intriguing and I think it is the 16 bit graphics. Anyway, I started playing it a few weeks ago and am absolutely hooked. I love absolutely everything about this game. The story, the voice cast, the music, the gameplay,
its all fantastic. A bit contrary to what Johnny says, the game is really intuitive and doesn't leave you lost or hanging on what to do next. If anyone has a suggestion for something like this, I would appreciate it, thanks!

Aight so y’all gotta help me 😂 I finally bought the game a couple days ago. Although I love the graphics and the music, there’s a few things I don’t like. The main thing I don’t like is that it is very easy to get lost. There’s WAAAY too much terrain that they allow you to explore too early. I don’t think these areas should be available at anytime, they should be locked. There’s WAAAY too many pathways and the signs DON’T help me at all. Why do they point you in so many different directions?! And these areas don’t even hint to where you are trying to get to. And there’s so many save points that I don’t even know where to save because I keep getting lost. I’m looking on the map for one of the lands and they are showing every other land accept the one I need to get to. Why are these signs so confusing? I’m at the very beginning trying to find victors hollow. I’m stuck walking ALL OVER THE PLACE through these desert areas, long paved roads, encountering caves that I shouldn’t even be going into yet because it’s too early and these monsters strike at 250 per hit. They tell you to follow the green thing to continue the main storyline, yet it already vanished off the mini map smh. How do you guys play this game?!! It’s so confusing!! This is really discouraging me from continuing the first character’s journey. I chose Olberic. I enjoy figuring RPG’s out and I’m usually really good at it, but getting stuck this early in the game shouldn’t be happening. And the side quests? How the hell do you even do those? Why does it take forever to level up and build money for better equipment? Why are the normal enemies so damn powerful and difficult to destroy? So hard to run away from? This is so time consuming. The dialogue is also insanely time consuming. So much dialogue! Lol. I want to enjoy this game, but these things are kind of killing it for me. I just started a new character Therion. I like the beginning so far, but yet again I keep getting lost while trying to get to the next mission

A level grind game? Glad I didn't pick it up. I mean there are far better ways (as shown in many other RPGs) that can make gameplay such as this without implementing grinding as being mandatory.

This is one my favorite games of the generation, and most definitely my favorite soundtrack. The music here is sublime and perfectly captures that fantasy motif. The stories (each character has their own) range from the mundane to the dramatic culminating into one intertwined epic tale. Incidentally, they finally released an official strategy guide for OT almost 2 years later.

Before you get this game, try the prologue demo. I tried it and I found the combat tedious in the early game, especially the long boss battles and constant wild encounters. Since there's no health bars, you don't know how close you are to the end, so I got really bored at the first boss with the Thief. The story though, I loved the bit that I saw. It was pretty interesting. I hope the combat gets better maybe 10 hours in, but right now would I buy this for the full $60? No, not right now.
Edit : Also a main reason I might not get this is because I was thinking about getting Ys VII. I don't know which is better.

I save first and go into those dungeons to get destroyed. It was part of why I decided to stop the demo and just wait for the game, those danger zones are blocked off in it.
I've been hearing that the characters barely interact with each other which is a little disappointing but not a deal breaker. I love the battle system and game world from what I played.

DreamcastGuy says in his vid do side quests so yeh I was thinking do I have to power up? By leveling up? Thats whats I'll do. Side quests and level up a bunch. First thing I noticed is how personal it is. Seems like a really deep game and the looks awesome. Im playing Brave Story on my hacked Vita atm too so yeh these games are beautiful. I dunno how u cant love rpg's to people who don't. So good. Ive been thinking about this game all day. Like damn Im gonna play this all night. Dreamcast guy says go hard n fast in the battles n your saying take ya time lol I'll mix it up.
