EXELLENT video.I am sure glad i moved south before starting a mechanic career!! It's rare to see a rust bucket that bad here! Great video on communication side of he electric repair
Great vidya buddy, i love watching the diagnosis of the high and low network stuff, always really interesting to see your thought process. Seriously some of the best electrical diag ive seen on youtube, no guess work and parts changing lol.
Great Great job ,currently fighting a 2011 silverado 2wd work truck ,very similar issues, I don't have the technical knowledge you definitely have, but have done mechanical work most of my life so looking forward to getting my truck out of the weeds and back into the shop.Thank you
Great Video - Thank you so much! I have a 2017 Chevy 2500 that was fine when I parked it, exhibited just about identical symptoms as this truck. I have a severe critter issue where I live, the squirrels have eaten the harnesses on both my Avalanche and 2500, I was pretty sure they got it again. Spent hours crawling underneath and on top the truck, can't find any damage. All fuses are good and I have12v throughout the fuse block, pulled all the ECM connectors, all clean - no water or corrosion. HVAC, windows, locks, even remote start works so I ruled out the BCM. I also noted that I have no data on the screen other than the mileage and unit settings which are presumably kept locally on an eeprom or flash while the oil life, fuel mileage, etc. are supplied by the ECM which doesn't seem to be communicating. Being able to isolate everything like that is a godsend for troubleshooting (as is your excellent service manual). Does the high speed bus run thru nice splice packs like the low speed does? Where are they generally located? Until watching your videos, I had no idea they existed.
@@BustedtoBuilt Thanks for the reply. Yes, I finally managed to find a service manual online that was pretty bad, but I was able to find a diagram of the high speed bus. I was showing 60Ω across it confirming I had a break somewhere. Pulled the first connector going to the rear part of the bus and still had 60Ω so I knew it was in the rear. Just started going down the chain pulling connectors and checking resistance until I found the damaged wire @ the very last module in the chain. 1 wire had a half inch missing. Spliced in a new wire (soldered, dielectric grease, heatshrink then a layer of 3M mastic tape). Everything came back except stability control. Hook up my scanner and the only module it can see is the BCM, nothing else, not even the ECM. It runs and drives fine, just no cruise control or stability control. Haven't had time to troubleshoot it further, but I'm guessing there's an issue on the low speed bus? No idea, need to find some more time to troubleshoot the issue.
That piece itself didn't have much integrity left I believe the shop was going to put in a piece of round tubing from framerail to framerail and build a new shock mount. Thanks for watching!
New subscriber, hopefully this helps me with all my problems. Truck was running great 07 2500hd 6L. Got it for 2k with no PRNDM and towed it home, pulled the infotainment fuse and pet it back in and it started. Been a great work truck for 7 months but started having low cranking so wiggled the battery cords and negative fell right off... put it back on and now dead no PRNDL again and pulling that fuse doest help.. so changed every ground and turns out the starter power wire was held on by a few hairs and dead so changed it with a new starter, tried the starter by the relay and works but still no PRNDL and cant get her to work.. I can move it through all the gears without my foot on the break which is odd.. radio and climate control are the only things working. its like it doesn't recognize the key i thought. going to try some of these steps. Oh and my tube thing isn't busted on mine but my rails under the bed were so i used 2x6 and its so much better then what gm used IMO.
what is the model number of your scan tool? I am having similar problems with my 2009 3500 ltz hd 6.6 no frame rot like in the video but same things no crank no start ...
I'm thinking mine might need an ecm. I'm getting 0hms. I had the lifters replaced, and they didn't disconnect the battery. Now it's saying it's lost communication with ecm/pcm, and my power train relay is buzzing. The shop denies any wrongdoing even after saying they forgot to disconnect the power and said it wouldn't hurt anything and that it was probably bad before they took it apart, but yet I had no problems other than the bad dod lifter before they worked on it.
Bummer, if all powers and grounds check out at the pcm then probably needs one. Unfortunately a lot of shops aren't ethical enough to stand behind their work
@BustedtoBuilt right, makes it hard to trust them. They wanted 575 +tax to order and install a new pcm. I ended up finding one for 194 after tax @flagship one .
Flattered by your offer but I've got to much to do right where I'm at. I hope that you are able to get the problem resolved though other means. If you haven't looked into "pine hollow auto diagnostics" I would highly recommend. He is brighter than I and a bit closer to you and I know he will travel also.
Im having an issue where I remove the resistor my truck will start but if I keep it on it won’t start. I ordered a new one from GM and install it and same thing it won’t start. The ABS LIGHT AND TRACTION will be on and the PRND selector won’t be on display. Help please!?
I have a 2010 Yukon Denali that I can’t diagnose. The stibilitrak light will come on and the dash will go crazy making the rpm drop and the speedometer drop and they will go up and down. The door locks will also go up and down. It will shift hard also. The only thing that keeps it from doing it is leaving this device plugged into the obd2 port that is supposed to shut off the afm “active fuel management” witch it does work but as soon as I unplug it it starts acting crazy again… any ideas ??!!
Hello sir and thank you for your detailed videos. May I ask a question. How close to resistance does pin 6 and 14 have to be. Mines is 61.8. Also, when you put the test light in pin 16 power, I confirmed it at pin 4 and it lit up but did not light up at pins 1, 6 and 14. Thank you in advance
Do you take work? Or only referrals from other shops, I’m not really that far, pretty sure after watching I have a short to power, but don’t have half the tools it would take to diagnose.will run and driver all day long start and stop, get home for the day let is set for 2-3hrs then have the same symptoms
I wish you were near me. My 2011thinks its Christmas on the dash, electrical gremlins are no fun when I don't know how to troubleshoot like you. Thanks for the videos, I'm jealous of your skills. If you're in Georgia I could sure use your help! haha
No start and no response from EBCM(abs), on a 2007 Chevy Tahoe 5.3L…..check power and grounds all ok, can this module cause a no start? Only think i haven’t check is high speed can bus. All module other than abs are responding with my launch x431 scan tool… when it did start, abs Trac and stab light are flashing on and off
Found the problem with the 2007 Chevy Tahoe, it was not the ABS module BUT the Air ride module under the spare tire, this module was taking down the high speed bus, removed the module and found the whole module was balloon out with rust from 21 years of Canadian winters, disconnected the module, customer is happy as the vehicle starts now…
@@aaronkoivuI got a 2009 Chevy Silverado. Was working fine till last night. I turned into my driveway and abs and stabilitrack light came on. The doors locked. And then my I noticed that my gear shifter shifts but would not indicate. Once I turned my truck off it would not start no more only the key turns, still doesn’t indicate it’s in park. Do you know what could be wrong?
Thank you for the lesson on low and high speed can. This morning I knew way less than I do now. From a old guy.ck,wisc.
Glad to help

Thanks for watching and no they do not use splice packs, wires run from module to module
