  • Norwegian ski jumper Daniel-Andre Tande was in a serious ski jump crash during recent world cup training in Planica, Slovenia. Thankfully his injuries are non-life threatening but this was a scary crash nonetheless. In this video we'll review the crash and discuss some educational parts of managing such traumatic sports and ski jump injuries like this.

Well, I’m sorry, but this video actually proves the exact opposite. It is very clear that Dr. Sutterer has absolutely no idea about ski jumping whatsoever. Possibly the best example of that in this video is, when he says “He even competes in something called ski flying.” Well Planica is one of the two biggest ski flying hills in the world and the single most legendary. In other words, Dr. Sutterer has no idea what he is watching here. Also, it is really weird that he emphasizes that Daniel Andre Tande is an elite jumper as if he is trying to make him look stupid for making a mistake which almost killed him. I could go on and on but suffice it to say, that in this video Dr. Sutterer is pretty much just making stuff up as he goes and it is very clear he hasn’t done any proper research on the topic before making this video. This video made me lose trust in Dr. Sutterer, because it shows that he is comfortable talking about stuff he doesn’t know at all.

Daniels heart stopped for about 3 minutes, and a defibrillator on the scene saved his life. On a TV program here in Norway about him and this incident he mentioned that this particular video was one of the first he saw just after he woke up at the hospital. And he actually was proud of the way he was described in it. 👍🏼

Interesting that the arrhythmia wasn't reported back in the day, even though there were on-scene photographs in which it looked like he was receiving CPR. They probably didn't want to scare viewers and fans...
If he recovered that quickly from a heart arrest and there's been no setback since, that might mean this was commotio cordis - I'm guessing his tucked in arms put blunt pressure onto his chest upon impact, but of course Dr. Brian Sutterer would know better than I do.

To give you a scale of things the longest jump on that event specifically was about 244 meters

@Daler Mehndi i did skijumping. I never jumped from Planica or any other skiflying hill, but years and years from so called large hills. Jump lengths up to 150m.
Based on the height of Tande himself (182cm or 6ft) his skis are approximately 250-255cm long. Knowing that it's easier to estimate the height he was at when sh*t hit the fan. 4-5meters is my rough guess too. Speed at take-off was 102.6kmph and it's hard to say if it increased or decreased during his not so aerodynamic flight.

The Norwegian Head Coach said yesterday, that this was Tande's fault. He jumped too aggressive which caused his left Ski to come too close to his body in the first moment of the flight. He then overcorrected that initial mistake causing the ski to drop so low, that he couldn't catch it anymore resulting in his crash..

@@BrianSuttererMD Physically just fine, sportingly not too good, nonetheless, he recently came 22nd in the ski flying world championships on Saturday, while not as good as 2018 when he won, it is still a crazy feat to be jumping after the fall, especially ski flying, true legend

My son rectenly who jumped K90 by 16 years old and a skijumper and jumpes bigger hills too than that but he was in town where I live Lillehammer with his skijumping club to just train in the hills as he is on a sport gym longer away from home. He fell too just like Tande did after his 5 jump all well until next jump his ski went just like that by asking his coach what had happened during his one jump and he also was knocked out cold for 1 min and had to get ambulance tourists saw it and luckily me I was at work or else would have screamed and fainted to watch his fall. He got double broken arm which is healing fine now but his collarbone what is broken too was straight after he came in for a x Ray but second x Ray one week later it changed position like one bone went down like why not support broken collarbones too? Even it's attachted to nerves and muscles, as your'e a doctor why did move one of his collarbone position? And why can't that too stabilized just like the arm heavy bandaged up? The hospital now are seeing to might do surgery on his collarbone that broke and started to change position one bone of his right collarbone is lower than the other one now. How can it possible at it slipped off and would you do surgery on him since he is only 16 the doctor in the hospital was in and out to do other treatment or surgery but in fact he was about surgery. What is your'e thought on it? He had a straight 'normal' looking collarbone side which was broken but still looked 'normal' after first x Ray when he came in and now one week later a second x Ray done they are kind of 'depart' like one bone is right position but the other one dropped a few inches down below to the other one, how can that happen and why can't collarbone injury to been broken more stabilized like a arm or a leg?? He had also head injures too to been watched too but not to serious luckily but still to been looked for..scary sport
