I mean he was making manga in the 80s which got a lot of people growing up with it, and its around the time when japanese anime and games came to the west. Not to mention his artstyle were perfect for marketing to children due to its "cartoon/chibi style" depiction which meant it was easier to bring it internationally with the manga and anime compared to something like Jojo by Hirohiko Araki due to its "adult" nature. Even Togashi who came few years later with yu yu hakusho was not as much marketable due to its dark nature of the show compared to the "fantasy/adventure" aspect of Dragon ball and it wasn't until DBZ it got a lot more matured/serious and could reach older audiences too. His work was made to reach a wide popularity in mind and took the advantage of good marketing that resulted in more people knowing about his work and allowed it to go on for so long.
Akita Toriyama is like The Beetles of the animation and comic world. Without him so many shows, manga, comics and movies wouldn’t have come to be. Dragon Ball really changed the trajectory of animation and storytelling in the medium for both the East and West.
I mean there would eventually come someone who would have done it too, anime was in its very early days of the 80s and as there were other big animes around the time there were also about to come other big ones around the corner who would have taken his spot instead, even some videogames would have filled that gap and spread it back to anime if so. I agree things would have been different and some tropes would have been pushed in to later years and JoJo references would probably be even more frequent than it is now.
Akira Toriyama left a huge impact in global pop culture. Goku is an iconic character to several generations and the influence of his story rippled everywhere. In latam everyone mourned his passing.
Toriyama was a genius so by the time he was doing DB chapters within 2 days weekly, he still got tired partly because he didn't want to do Dragon Ball originally but also because he was tired doing Dr. Slump and Dragon Ball for 15 years. That said many mangaka are heavy smokers including Toriyama, so that does have an effect on their lifespan. Although Toriyama's cause of death was kinda strange.

The first anime that I actively watched as a kid was Dragonball then later down the line I started playing dragon quest starting with 11 and I thought the art looked similar, I then realised that Toriyama also did the art and character design for it and I fell in love with the game. Almost every single aspect of my life came from Toriyama's works or stuff that he worked on or things that inspired him. His greatness has sent ripple effects throughout media and everybody will miss him. RIP Toriyama, may you never be forgotten
Fujimoto slander right here! The message of *"Just Listen to the Song"* isn't "it's not that deep." The conflict in that story is that a teen made a love song and everyone but the person it was meant for interpreted meaning behind it. Everyone kept finding all sorts of hidden messages/imagery that wasn't there intentionally, but it was. None of that mattered to our boy though, because his intended message wasn't being received. So he tries again with a follow-up, and dissapoints the audience he'd garnered. There's a meta narrative going on here with how soon after Chainsaw Man Part 2 started.
After the trash taste live show in Toronto, me and my buddy briefly ran into the bois after the show. While walking past them, Connor complimented my shirt. I was wearing a goku and vegeta Tee that night. Even then Toriyamas work connected people and made a lifelong memory to look back on… rest in peace Toriyama.
Toriyama’s passing is the first celebrity death I think has ever really impacted me. Dragon Ball has been apart of my life way longer then it hasn’t and it’s really sad to know he’s gone. But the outpouring of love and respect for Toriyama is incredible and it’s amazing to see. It’s just a shame it takes someone dying for people to stop being assholes. On the topic of mangakas health, there’s some like Yoshihiro Togashi, World Trigger’s Daisuke Ashihara and Black Clover’s Yuki Tabata who have severe health issues that lead to their mangas being on long hiatuses.
RIP Akira Toriyama Adding to the topic of mourning someone who you are not a fan of, I mourned Kobe Bryant eventhough I never was a fan of him or basketball or have I ever watched it but the way he died and the impact he had on the world was so big of course I was sad and mourned him same with Miura I never watched Berserk but I mourned him too.
Same. I wasn’t a Kobe fan, but he was still a major part of my generation. I knew a lot of kids who loved him. Even w/o knowing anything about basketball, I know him and his daughter. So, his death especially the surprise effected me even as a non-fan. Also with Miura. Berzerk was a huge series for my anime gen, too. I know I need to see the series.
Doesn't matter how much we clown on Dragon ball aging as a show, the impact it has created cannot be overlooked. Akira Toriyama was a legend who will be remembered as long as this medium exists.

I'm an architect student, and I always love it when people talk about the infrastructure in Japan. The times I've taken the public transportation there helps remind me that the quality of it can be possibly this good, it's just sad that almost no other nation has made it as good. Also I'm hoping to go for exchange in Japan for the chance to explore opportunities there in the creative industry, not specifically in architecture though.
It's funny that the world knows of Dragon balls popularity on Latin America. But people forget that France is the 2nd market for manga. It is absolutely huge here and has been since the 80s. Still in awe how Toriyama-sama made such a huge impact worldwide.
Everything Toriyama touched was iconic in its own right. He took over gag comedy with Dr Slump, took over battle shonen with Dragon ball. RIP TORIYAMA. THE FATHER OF SHONEN AND ONE OF THE GREATEST CREATIVE MINDS EVER.
He's not the father. Stuff like kinnikuman ring ni kakero and ashita no joe already established everything prior. He famously called himself lazy, if anything he was the cool uncle of shonen
Hokuto no Ken
@@Kyuzo897 which was preceeded by violence jack
@@pheunithpsychic-watertype9881 Always that one guy brew. For most of us he is and always will be father of not only shonen, father of anime!
Rip 2 the Goat ❤
Respectfully i don't think any other series is loved this much globally and has brought together so many anime fans together. He created and left us something with some beautiful nostalgic memories. Ty Toriyama sensei. Rest in peace
Rest In Peace Sensei
Glad the boys dedicated an episode to the man, he deserves it.
Love Garnt's respect toward Hiro Mashima. Guy doesn't have to like Fairy Tail to respect his work ethic.
tbf dudes actually goated how he was working on FT 100 year quest and Eden's Zero and somehow still have alot of free time is insane lmao
I thought that they would each individually upload a video about this, however I am not too shocked because there was no way they wouldn't talk about this
Watching Trash Taste when they covered the passing of Miura and now the passing of Toriyama really does give me a new perspective of Trash Taste.
what perspective?
@@ryana5435 there perspectives about Mangaka’s in general. They talked about a lot of them throughout Trash Taste despite how you may feel about certain Mangaka’s
@@brodaforlife yeah, very mature and humane take. Based boys. Twitter mobs should stop gatekeeping and blame others who want to pay tribute to the passing of Toriyama. Twitter users are mad at Conner’s tribute tweet and said “you don’t even like dragon ball” are very childish and dumb😂
@ryana5435 yeah that was really dumb. I'll be up front and say that trash tastes takes on dragon ball arent very good, but just because they weren't super fans doesn't mean that they aren't allowed to mourn.
@@philswift8793 I totally agree with you. Non Dragon Ball fans should be allowed to mourn as well.
RIP Akira Toriyama
A real loss for humanity.
He inspired me to draw Manga.

Rip Akira Toriyama.
The man responsible for my love for anime
When I was cycling in Spain with all my camping gear I had to think of Goku en Krillin's training with Master Roshi, when they have to wear the turtle shells to gain strenght. Then without they are lighter and jump real high.. The original Dragon Ball manga was so much fun to read as a kid. It's influence still present 20 years later in my life.. So thankful for these stories. RIP Akira Toriyama
I love how confidently wrong Connor is about the Dune part lol.
Yeah, like please dont check it, i am right 😂
I mean the number of memorials that happened around the world, like the Argentina one, just go to show the vast impact he had on the world. Rest in peace to an innovator of shonen, you will be missed
I think the passing of Toriyama really hit me when my dad told me about it. Hearing my dad say his full name made me realize how big of an impact he made. Rest in peace to the biggest goat there was
The first anime that I actively watched as a kid was Dragonball then later down the line I started playing dragon quest starting with 11 and I thought the art looked similar, I then realised that Toriyama also did the art and character design for it and I fell in love with the game. Almost every single aspect of my life came from Toriyama's works or stuff that he worked on or things that inspired him. His greatness has sent ripple effects throughout media and everybody will miss him. RIP Toriyama, may you never be forgotten
The last plot twist that REALLY shocked me was in Tengoku Daimakyou, the entire story was insane.
Seeing Joey crush that cockroach with such glee actually explains a lot about Joey as a person
It was gross and weird.

Even then Toriyamas work connected people and made a lifelong memory to look back on…
rest in peace Toriyama.
1:23:00 That's not the Hyperloop, it's the Loop. Get your scammy transportation projects right guys.
RIP Akira Toriyama
Adding to the topic of mourning someone who you are not a fan of, I mourned Kobe Bryant eventhough I never was a fan of him or basketball or have I ever watched it but the way he died and the impact he had on the world was so big of course I was sad and mourned him same with Miura I never watched Berserk but I mourned him too.
Thank you Joey for the cockroach crunch and pop

Finally, I was expecting this episode sooner or later.
Doesn't matter how much we clown on Dragon ball aging as a show, the impact it has created cannot be overlooked. Akira Toriyama was a legend who will be remembered as long as this medium exists.
Once again, Connor BS’s his way through the Dune debate and demands that he’s right. Gigguk was right all along
@@Strat-o-casterYES!! Also when someone says fact check, I wish they’d just fact check it straight away in the episode. Poor Mudan has to do so much unnecessary work
I think another impressive infrastructure that Japan did was converting above-ground train to subway train at Shibuya station. Although the project itself was 8 years, but that platform wasn't closed for normal operation. It was done within 3 hours or so during the night between last train and the first train.
Dragon Ball was the first anime I ever watched on Cartoon Network. Definitely THE influence for me to become an anime fan. So RIP Toriyama.
Connor: I’m not wrong Garnt
Pop-up: “Connor is kinda wrong” 💀💀💀
I grew up watching DBZ before starting school. It was the game my friends and I would always play, the show we'd debate over. The first show I binged when I discovered you could do that on the internet, the first manga I fully read through. At 30, I found myself tearing up thinking how influential Dragon Ball, Dr Slump, Cowa!, and Manga Theater was not just on the world, but on me. He was our Elvis Presley, Princess Diane, and Mr. Rogers all in one. RIP Toriyama-Sensei, we hardly knew ye
The seattle light rail actually opened a couple years ago and a new extension might open this summer! It's been so nice to have a proper rail system
I haven't watched Dragon Ball but I am a One Piece fan and I felt sad about the news since I know how much Toriyama meant for Oda and how much of an influence he was for One Piece. Oda announced he was taking a 1 month hiatus to take care for his own health and I believe to mourn. RIP Toriyama
As someone who's been a life-long Dragon Ball fan, I love that you guys put such a focus on Toriyama's passing this episode and talked about it to such a degree. He's influenced the lives of so many people and touched the hearts and minds of more people than he would ever have expected to in his time, and his loss is a massive blow to everyone who has come into contact with anything he has influenced or produced in his life. Rest in peace to an absolute legend, gone but not forgotten

RIP Toriyama. It seems like my childhood is dead with him gone.

And he also decided to make some of the most iconic designs for some of the most iconic video games with Dragon quest and Chrono Trigger.
This man's influence cannot be understated.
