- I am on WIndows 11 using Fallout 4 installed on Steam on an SSD outside of the program folders with Fallout London installed via the GOG installer.

To be clear, I experienced crashing only at this instance. It occured after taking the train ride that ends the opening lab sequence, and is followed by the Fallout London title drop. The game then begins to load, and then crashes during the loading. This was my issue, this was the solution I found to solve my issue.
I am not associated with the Fallout London Dev team in any way, this isn't an official solution. Their word is above mine, if they post an update or solution consider this video outdated.

I had the same issue. Still have it. I tried this. However, I sourced both main files through GOG downloads for both FO4 and London. This Buffout4 fix broke everything giving a DLL error. I don't use Steam.
Buffout 4 isn't a fix. So many people report still having crashes after installing it. The problem with FOLON is that VRAM usage is absolutely insane, as are the frame drops in Thameshaven which seem to become frame drops in 'Everywherehaven' the more you play. Great example of putting 10 lbs of crap in a 5 lb bag. If you don't count the many crashes I got right after the loading screen at new game beginning due to HBAO not working with FOLON, my first crash was after the train, after the convo with those blokes and after walking north from there for half a minute. I was approaching a double decker and got a CTD. at least it wasn't as bad as the HBAO crashes, which required using the switch on my PSU to resolve. I was running 1440p Ultra on a RX6600 and did not have an issue with the FOLON splash screen during the train ride. Hell, this could have been a random fluke considering the randomness in the performance metrics I've been monitoring. I'll get a stutter (happens a lot since Thameshaven) and look at GPU utilization and it is like 9%. So I think, "CPU bottleneck?" but then note CPU utilization is only 4%. They simply threw too many mods at the engine and some of them are arguing amongst themselves, confusing the crap out of your PC.
I just finished a session after meeting the Ferryman for the second time. He tells you to lower some crane. The problem is there is literally only one way to get there and it is a maze. And I realized that everything in this mod is just a maze. The floor is lava. Dipping a toe in a puddle will end you in less than a second. it may look like Fallout but it definitely smells like something else. Considering all the issues getting it to run (which could have been avoided with a couple extra sentences in the install instructions) and the fact it runs like farts, it seems like stuttering will be frequent. The odd thing is that I get why Thameshaven Market is a slideshow - they just put too much stuff in too small a space - but when it started stuttering when making my way back to the ferryman, I realized this problem isn't going to be confined to Thameshaven Market and is probably only going to get worse as the game progresses.
I would love to play the game all the way through - if they would only make a downgrader for FOLON where you get the new story and environment but don't have to deal with the 300 mods the FOLON team dumped on top of it. That's the very definition of not getting what you have and trying to overcompensate with mods to make it look like a modern game. Starfield conclusively proved the limits of the Creation engine and the FOLON team thinks they're immune from those realities. But if the only people who can run it without it being a stutterfest are people with a 4090, just who exactly did they make FOLON for anyway? Elon Musk? Mark Zuckerberg? Yeah, everyone who has a 4090 that they now owe more for than the purchase price because they bought it on a CC with a 47% APR don't count here. If that's you, might I suggest you seek professional help...
I've played vanilla FO4 for 550 hours in less than 4 years (first played it in 2020) but the only way I am getting through FOLON is if I (de-)mod the crap out of it, lol. And taking a deep dive into the nebulous world of FO4 modding was the last thing I had in mind when I downloaded FOLON.
I've spent plenty of time over the past 48 hours trying to help the non-modding portion of the fanbase get the mod running by posting tips on Reddit and have been met with nothing but vitriol by those holier than thou types who mod FO4 so hard it turns into COD. Meanwhile, a lot of the people I was trying to help have already given up on FOLON. And I can't blame them. Hostile community, borked, over-modded game. Hell, I bought a second license for FO4 solely because GOG promised a turnkey installation. Well, they didn't deliver and I'm probably going to refund that purchase. If I do manage to work up enough interest to come back to FOLON at some point, I'll just use my Steam license because those extra half dozen steps translate into about 15 minutes of work, as opposed to the 6 hours I spent already, figuring out the stuff that was actually hard.
Frankly, as someone who has been a gamer for 4 decades, I haven't had this much trouble getting a game to run since the '90s and that's a really poor reflection on FOLON. It was easier to hack a Switch. Or any console, for that matter. I could have hacked 27 3DS consoles in the time it took me to figure out how to eliminate crashes in FOLON. I could have done a total conversion mod for DOOM using Borland C++ Turbo in the time it took me to get FOLON to not crash. That's my main experience with video game modding - coding it myself rather than arbitrarily installing 300 different random mods from random modders. This is literally the only reason the launch of FOLON was delayed. Do I believe Bethesda was trying to tank it? Sure. But the main problem was the FOLON team simply couldn't be satisfied with a new story and new environment. They had to try and make it look like a modern game. M*r*ns! Spent 4 years fleshing out the world and story and then ruined it all with a week's worth of Chad-modding. Or, maybe since they're British, Chav-modding?!? But then, curiously, they refer to the loo as a 'baaathroom'. No words.
All I know is 160 years post-apocalypse and I still gotta swipe a ticket to get out the damn Tube station, lol. No, no, in Boston, we just jump the turnstile. Or shoot it with a Mini-nuke. Team FOLON definitely got the realities of self-defense in Britain right. 4 hours in and my go-to weapon is a spiked board, like I'm some kind of mutant🤦♂
I knew there would be a cricket bat but it was pretty useless so I sold it. As opposed to real life, where I saved my cricket bat because it is such a fearsome weapon. You can hit 'em with the flat side and knock 'em out, hit em with the edge and put 'em in a coma or hit them with the backside and use the ridge to split their skull wide open. Much more versatile than the crude American baseball bat. You can either jab someone in the nuts with the end or take their head clean off. Not much middle ground there. But you know how Brits are -"Everyone's a fruit and a nut case...".

I have a scoped Enfield SMLE I can't actually afford to use, lol. But 10 quid a round definitely sounds about right for Labour Britain. Maybe if I find the Fallout Okinawa 1945 mod, I can grab some 7,7mm Arisaka and force feed it to the SMLE🤣
Also, the 'primitive revolver' should have been a Webley, lol. Sam Colt may have made men equal but Webley made them all piss themselves due to being under-armed. Don't forget to get plenty of that .32 Webley Extra Short ammo. you've heard of a 'double-tap", well it is time to get familiar with the sextuple tap.
Working on FITGIRLs shitty game... so far... And the load screens makes me want to stop playing!! And I have the game installed on a SSD and it still takes like 1-2 mins in between loading screens!!
As I have London installed in a separate folder alongside Fallout 4 GOTY, this fix worked when I installed it in the Fallout 4 GOTY plugins folder. Thanks so much for your help.

Even after adding Buffout to both the FOLON and FO4 folders... I was still crashing.... so I decided to try triggering the train, then getting off it with a no-clip console command (tcl). Once the train started moving, I clipped off of it and let it go on its way. Then I clipped back onto the tracks and walked about halfway across the first bridge and waited. The screen faded to black, but then it loaded up into the next part and (so far) all seems to be well. Worth a shot for anyone that is having extra problems. I think the train movement sequence into an event is what is causing the issue, but I don't know much about game coding.
Dude this works. Thank you. Watch an update just you getting on the train and it fades to black to fix it.

You can also try going into Fallout 4 and turning down the grapic setting, saving them, then going back to train this work for me, saving the game, and resetting grapics.
I have heard of this solution from others as well.

I had this crashing problem, I read someone's comment on RUclips say if you go back down the stairs and find somewhere to sit and wait until after 8am, then go and get on the train, the game doesn't crash. I tried it and it works !. Btw I'm playing the game on GOG.

sidebar but if you do use the GOG version you can manually do the same thing but put it in the folders inside the GOG Galaxy > Games > FO4 folders instead of steamapps
I downloaded the GoG version of Fallout 4 GOTY and then installed the Fallout London MOD. As soon as I got off the train and approached the first people you could speak with, the game would crash. Following the simple steps on this video fixed my issue. Thank you!
Thanks nv, I've had such a hard time getting F.London to work for me, 4hrs & 50 crashes in, I couldn't walk 20 paces without a CTD...followed your instructions &...so far so good 30mins no crashes. Your channel should have a Warning Sign: Wizard at Work! 🤪

Spent 4 hours trying to get it to run on steam deck. Tried heroic launcher, no dice, then figured how to get GOG Galaxy running. Got it working! And then got this issue and have no earthly idea how to fix it😅 help please!
was having this exact issue, followed your guide here and was still having the issue so copied the buffout files into the fallout 4 goty folder also and not one issue now for hours. Thank you very much
I think all Buffout does, besides making you a free beta tester with crash logs, is it actually tries (often unsuccessfully) to prevent exceeding the VRAM limit of your GPU. Without it, FOLON runs like a 20 year old game that will happily allow you to crank settings and totally crash your GPU by blowing way past the VRAM limit in 2 seconds flat. all you really need to do is properly tune your game and GPU (as we all did 20 years ago) to handle it. Still gonna be a stutterfest a lot of the time regardless. It wasn't enough for team FOLON to create a new story and environment. They had to toss 300 mods on the pile in a vain attempt to get it to look like a modern game. Sometimes those mods fight each other, which is how I observed severe stuttering with the game only using 9% of the GPU and 4% of the CPU. On the other end, FOLON can't seem to use more than 80% of any GPU and most of the time it is below 50% utilization. Frankly, it sets a new low standard for game performance. Makes Starfield seem like a well optimized game.
Also, if Buffout is working the way I suspect, it is just liable to give you more stuttering as it struggles to figure out how to optimize a poorly optimized game engine with a bunch of mods on the fly.
Thank you so much for uploading this fix! You literally saved my game, as I had NO IDEA what I was gonna do, aside from wait for a patch. Like you, I did not install the extra files listed under the Requirements tab on the Nexus and it's running perfectly. Also, as I did not wish to give the Downgrade files manager my Steam account name and password, I easily downloaded the files and manually installed the downgrade beforehand without any issues...until this. 😄 Thanks again and all the best! 😉👍

Just wanted to say this worked for me when I installed it in the fallout 4 file. I didn't have a fallout London file.
Spent days trying to get it to run on steam so I just ended up buying it on GOG and then this haha I'm at my wits end I hope this works
if ur getting crashes on "continue" try going to another save. worked for me. guess my save was janky. luckily it was minutes prior
there is a problem with the train crash scene , once u use the command "TCL" and step outside that train u can just walk behind and when the screen goes black just skip it . then u can play normally

I had the same issue. Still have it. I tried this. However, I sourced both main files through GOG downloads for both FO4 and London. This Buffout4 fix broke everything giving a DLL error.
I suspect this was because you failed to delete your previous */documents/my games/fallout 4 folder. Besides game saves (which you should independently back up), it is all .dll files and the FOLON installer just isn't sophisticated enough to fix the problem.
The main cause of crashing with FOLON is the fact that the mod uses like 50% more VRAM than FO4. It also doesn't really manage VRAM usage like a modern game, or even like vanilla FO4. It runs like a 20 year old game and it will go ahead and crash if you ask too much from your GPU.
Team FOLON appears to have thought only hardcore FO4 modders would even know about FOLON. But they ended up getting so much press that literally every Fallout fan wants to play it. It is the 'Fallout 5' Bethesda couldn't be bothered to have ready in time for the release of the series. Not only that, you have total noobs who haven't played a single hour of Fallout in their life. 90% of the people actually trying to play the game are not the people they expected and they can't work their way through the half-assed install instructions, especially when they bought the game from GOG, expecting it to be like installing any other game. So you have a lot of people just getting a loading screen and a crash because Team FOLON couldn't be bothered to let us know that HBAO breaks their mod. And the rest are getting on the train and then crashing, either when the splash screen pops or sometime after they 'disembark' the train. For me, I got through the chat with those blokes, walked north for half a minute and then crashed as I approached a bus. When I attempted to reload a save from moments before the crash, I had the Riva tuner overlay going and watched the VRAM usage creep up during the loading screen before suddenly spiking to well over 8GB and crashing before the game even loaded in. Regardless, all those crashes are being caused by exceeding the VRAM limit of your GPU.
all I know is I'm going on around 5 hours in and just keep getting more and more stutters. Still well within VRAM limit, it is just that FO4 errors caused by hack modding have a tendency to increase in severity the more hours you spend in game. Team FOLON is not a team of coders. It is a team of artists who came up with a banger of a concept, some beautiful artwork and some story building. Then they hobbled the whole thing with like 300 extant mods and did a piss-poor job of it because they clearly installed some conflicting mods. This is the only way I could see severe stutter with 9% GPU utilization and 4% CPU utilization. The only answer is that FOLON is confusing the crap out of my PC with bad/conflicting instructions.
Waiting for the 'FOLON Downgrade Utility' to continue playing. I want the story and environment but with standard FO4 mechanics and graphics, TY very much. I want the crappy weapon wheel gone and the overly elaborate Ballisong fidget animation out of there. All it does is make your weapon not respond when you need to use it and relegates the otherwise legendary knife to 'collectible-only' status. The first time I ended up half dead from a single radshrew bite because the game was too busy turning the knife into a fidget spinner to be bothered to let me use it as a knife, I was done with the Ballisong. "That's not a knoife...". No, it really isn't. I am fully convinced an actual fidget spinner would be a more effective weapon than a knife that is too busy being a fidget spinner to stab anyone. But that level of ADHD totally tracks with the game-breaking number of mods team FOLON tossed on the pyre.

I’m playing through gog and I was crashing every time I was following Sebastian right after the train. I had to put the buffout into both fallout4 and fallout London folders and it seems to have helped so far.
Oh so you placed it in both F4SE folders and it worked? Good to hear.
@@nvRanger yeah it didn’t work originally just having it placed in London, but being in both 4 and London seemed to help a lot. Only one crash in 6 hours of play.
So anyone reading whose game still crashes, try putting the buffout4 under both!

I saved when I was riding in the train and it always loads away from the train can't get to it
I didn't encounter any crashes when I installed buffout but now some of my Load files are crashing when I reload my game.
It worked.... but afterward the screen display was out of wack. My character's arms were in screen, but text/dialogue was out of screen as if the view was enlarged and not fully displayed on the screen

Thanks for the video - unfortunately it doesn't seem to have fixed my game. However not the end of the world - its a mod and Team FOLON seem pretty intent on supporting it so hopefully a fix is soon to come.

I was having the same issue. Couldn’t get past the train at the start. Playing on steam deck. Downloaded manually, extracted files and copied them over and worked first time. Now I can enjoy the game. Thanks a lot. Like and sub from me 👍🏻

@@nvRanger Yeah, I eventually got that mess to run without crashing. But it just keeps stuttering more and more. FOLON is the very definition of trying to shove 10lbs of crap into a 5lb bag. Waiting for the FOLON downgrade utility to continue playing😝

I fixed my crash by starting the game with f4se_loader.exe in the Fallout 4 folder (not the London folder).

All this does is break my game and it doesnt recognize fallout london being installed and loads the base game.

Has nothing to do with your difficulty setting. It is all about the fact that FOLON runs like a 20 year old game and has about 300 mods slapped on it. So it can easily use a lot of VRAM and during the process of modding the game engine, they made sure the game engine cannot do anything to prevent a buffer overrun crash. So, if you can tune the game properly, you can get it to run without crashing ever. But it still has a problem where the more you play it, the more it stutters. I'm getting major frame drops and then looking at single digit GPU and CPU utilization numbers. They literally went so overboard with the cut and paste mods that FOLON is frequently confusing the crap out of your PC. They've installed multiple instances of conflicting mods.
Team FOLON has some artistic potential but they are definitely not software engineers. They also could have met their April launch target if they had just shitcanned the mods and made the TCM totally about story and environment, using standard FO4 graphics and gameplay. The next gen patch (which was utterly pointless on PC) should not have caused a delay. They listened to a very small minority of regular FO4 modders over the regular gamers who would make up the vast majority of players. And the launch was still a total crapfest.
If I had a dollar for every sh*tpost I got on Reddit from one of those people who mod FO4 to the point it becomes COD, I would now be very wealthy. All I was doing is trying to clue people into why it was crashing.
The video game industry is now a parody of its former self and it doesn't matter what I think because they will give gen Alpha whatever they want, no matter how ridiculous.

I gave the mod a run and it let me get past the train sequence but it sill crashes every minute or so.

Downloaded and installed buffout 4 and it seems to have made a big difference. I used vortex mod manager and it all worked fine

You are a legend for this TYSM, I was stuck until I found this so I tried the clipping out I’d train and using fallout London a preferred INI setting and it worked a charm. No need for buff out 4. Cheers

So, I've been trying to play this game but for some reason the load times are terrible. I have a good pc and should be able to run this like it's nothing. I have installed Buffout 4 mod and tried another "load time" mod which didn't seem to do anything. Load times are 4 - 5 minutes per load screen. Any thoughts on how I can fix this?

Not sure if it was a fix , but I found during the train cut scene when it loads up the fallout London title screen hit a key and skip the cut scene and seemed to then work for me right away.

I qorked fo me, now I could reach the title screen with the train. But after that when I walking with the Vagabonds to a stion it keeps crashing. So this game is a piece of crap. Unplayable, full of bugs and errors. :(
Have patience for patches. I would try a fresh install and keep an eye on the Fallout London dev team for patches or the FOLON nexus page for unofficial patches.

I'm still unable to play; after following the video, it doesn't even load in the London setting. It starts in the intro for the base game. I'm not really sure what happened...
You might need a fresh install of Fallout 4, and Fallout London. Make sure you follow everything to a tee, and then add Buffout if it still doesn’t work after a fresh installation.

You must delete any prior instance of the folder */documents/my games/fallout 4
This also might have been caused by failing to run the FOLON installer, which is what actually mods the game. Or you launched using the regular Fallout4launcher.exe. While you use the regular launcher to modify graphics settings, you cannot launch FOLON through it. That is done by the f4se_loader.exe.
I could also see how failing to disable cloud saves and automatic updates might lead to this issue.

Check forums or Reddit for solutions if you gain hope again. Also hopefully the FOLON team is seeking to patch.

so i added buffout and it didnt change anything, i still crash after the train in the loading screen
get into the train > walk a little to activate the trigger > use command TCL > step outside > follow the train > skip de cutscene. that worked for me

@@ashwinbhandari1989Assign the ~ key to one of the back paddles. Once open use Steam + X to bring up the keyboard. However, I've tried this on steam deck OLED and it still crashes after the cutscene so ymmv

I can’t seem to get past the start new game
I start a new game and it loads into the monitor and then freezes
I would look at the installation video by Gopher. It is linked in my pinned comment. I would uninstall, start fresh, and follow that tutorial. Good luck.
@@nvRanger yeah uninstalling isn’t an option. It took me over a day just to install the mod lmao.
So what I did to fix it was smash the T key on my keyboard. I guess my PC was having issues loading the opening cut scene.
I had an issue of when putting it in the gog game files it transformed the game to normal fallout 4
Are you running through the GOG launcher?

Installed buffout and now the mod isn't launching at all. Not sure what's going on.
I had the same issue after loading the mod list, so I ended up having to do a clean install. Make sure to manually remove all fallout files before doing this. I then reloaded the game, which worked for me but did not load any suggested mods.

@@Remagenify good luck it did take me most of Saturday afternoon as first time left a file behind so make sure to get them all
@@jamesgodfrey1322 It worked, did a full clean uninstall and redid the whole process now it works and is fairly stable through the FSVE launcher. Had to do the load times mod fix cus that was a bit laggy overall, but everything seems to be good now. Appreciate it!

Working on FITGIRLs shitty game... so far... And the load screens makes me want to stop playing!! And I have the game installed on a SSD and it still takes like 3 mins in between loading screens!!
