In this video, I'll talk about HL3, also known as HLX, and shed light on what we know about this mysterious game, based on leaks and analysis of files from other Valve games, such as CS 2, CS2, and Dota 2. We'll discuss how the successful release of Half-Life: Alyx became the starting point for the development of HLX and how other Valve projects, such as CS:GO on Source 2 and Deadlock, helped bring the engine to readiness. "Valve can't innovate with HL anymore" All these stuff that I'm hearing sound pretty innovative to me. I'm hoping that they will do the real time moss for the shits and giggles.
There is still endless ways developers could innovate. Problem is, the gaming space hasn't seen much innovation after the release of live-service games. Lack of any real innovation thus gives gamers the illusion that innovation has hit a dead end, while the real issue is lack of effort and prioritising profits over anything original.
Half-Life is only made to innovate.
Really if they made something as interactive as HL2/Alyx or Duke Nukem Forever 2001 and then did something new on top of that then the game would crush the industry yet again.

Love my steam deck, things a fucking beast for its size and price.
The secrecy of Valve is what really sets them apart from all the AAA devs - that and being a private company that isn't owned by Blackrock.
They haven't exactly done a good job with the secrecy, no? We know quite a few specifics about hlx. We also knew a TON about Deadlock for like the last 3 years now

@@lukebelvin4900 I definitely agree. The secret sauce Valve uses is simply just playtesting. They do an insane amount of it during development and always have. It's why they're able to suddenly make a god-like VR game despite it being their first.

A half life style open world game doesn’t sound that bad lambda caches have always made half life 2 feel like a semi open world game, especially in episode two, and half life 1 always allowed you to back track pretty far depending on where you were in the game.
I am thinking that something in the vein of the original Crysis would make perfect sense for a Half-Life 3, maybe even a bit less linear than the missions in Crysis

I don't think white sands name is related to white forest, but white sands in New Mexico. half-life Alyx was "Jamiroquai", Jamiroquai made the song "Virtual Insanity".
The number of people that don't make the White Sands->Black Mesa connection (real vs HL univ versions) is sad, especially considering Oppenheimer came out last year, so people should be colloquially familiar with Los Alamos and White Sands.

Why toning down the horrific parts of it just to appease some playtesters, when that's the kind of things that are part of your universe in the first place? I am playing half life alyx like now, and have gotten some pretty bad jumpscares, almost broke my controllers....
Don't forget the playtester that kept going in circles choosing the same path in the antlion hive instead of taking the other path just once.

One of the reasons why they arent more common, I am afraid, is the same reason as to why things like good physics in general and good AI is lacking in many games. It is easier to sell games that look good on the surface but lack depth, Cyberpunk is one of the best examples.

@@kajmak64bit76 because forcing people into buying an at this point outdated 1000$ vr setup clearly has worked so well in the past with HL:A. Thats just delusional. I own a Index myself and played HL:A but demanding them to make the next major HL game VR only locking out the vast majority of the fanbase again is just crazy. There is a reason why the flatmode mod was more popular than the game itself. Nobody is spending 1000$ to play one game, hasn't worked with HL:A and won't work with HL:X. All it does is lock out the fanbase that has waited for over a decade at this point.
Tripple A VR mainstream gaming simply doesn't exist as much as I dislike that fact and even Sony seemingly has given up with PSVR since they opened it to PC and cutdown the price since nobody bought it with Meta barely scraping by by making everything quest exclusive they can get their hands on and even their department is burning money like crazy.

you cannot design a game to work well with both VR and Non-VR. Like you said, the Half-Life Alyx no VR mod feels uncanny because you're interacting with the game in a fundamentally different way than it was designed. A lot of stuff gets lost in translation
HLX has removed all of the VR components from HLA, so most likely not VR. maybe someday someone will make a cool VR mod like they did for HL2

6:55 I remember playing half life alyx for the first time, VR is somethign else and I had little experience with it, the first time I had to go near a corpse it was so tense, nothing like playing a fps, in VR its right THERE, feels like it can touch you, and don't get me started on the headcrabs latching onto you, or Jeff ...
Alyx is such a boss VR game, they've got to keep it up. No other VR title out there can match the tightness and robustness, the number of objects, and combat accuracy. It would be a great shame if Valve did not continue pushing the VR envelope.

Everyone seems to be saying White Sands is word play on Black Mesa. This isn't really how Valve's project names work, they tend to directly reference more information about the thing the project is named after. It's more literal. So I thought the more obvious connection was that White Sands was where they did the *Trinity* test, detonating a *bomb* .

If this is true, the last 6 months in gaming have been the most exciting in over a decade. Helldivers (before they ruined it), Black Myth Wukong, Delta Force, and now maybe Half-Life 3??? Please please please HL3 break the fucking mold and change the way games are made. We are in desperate need of it.
Mouth movements based on your voice is already in Half-Life 1 since 1997. CS1.6 also has this kind of technology because CS was a mod of Half-Life. The new tech will be better for sure but nothing new in Valve’s games.
That just detected whether a character was making a sound or not, and flapping its lips accordingly. Which resulted in Half-Life NPCs beeping and booping with their mouths whenever they interact with a retinal scanner. And micspammers in 1.6 playing songs with their mouths. This one is specifically designed for dialogue, and will probably be baked into the map like lighting.

I don't believe. Valve don't make games anymore. They have infinite money glitch from CS 2 and Dota 2. I doubt there is still any game developper left in this company. They can't even make a functional anti-cheat.

If Half-Life 3 is actually in development I wouldn't be surprised if it's another VR game.

Need official VR support day 1 or no buy. Makes no sense to go backwards and also not deliver on a promise again, they promised us 3 VR games.

Going non-vr is not going backwards. They are going the right direction. Every Half life game was on PC, and most people still play on PC anyway. VR is a niche market. No everyone wants to buy a 1000$ headset that requires effort to set up, can give you nausea and has a very limited game library
@@dieselgeezer18 there is no need to buy a 1000$ headset, indeed, 400 and 500$ headsets are a much better option than a 1000$ Index (I have now a Pico 4 and its much better for PCVR than Index, wich I had before my Pico) and you can even have VR for just 200$. What you are saying is just missinformation.
And yes, its a step backwards. The thing that in pc there are more players is a different story, but in terms of gameplay, VR is in a superior level.

VR is not a superior way to play games. Its a different way to play games. It can be clunky, tiring, and does not allow very fast paced action
Source 1 was the engine of the golden age of valve, this is why valve is taking their time to replicate that era with source 2. We already got a glimpse with hl alyx and that game was a masterpiece. We just have to be patient.
Fun fact: Todays on Lambdas Generation's Shifting the bar event (event where the HL community tried to break all time peak of Half-Life Blue Shift, VALVe said that they plan something special on 20th anniversary of HL2. I know this propably isnt HL3 but still. HYPE
