NFS is actually about rising above suppression of self, and anarchy. Or Ratchet and Clank is socialist manifesto
There best case arguments come from things like Cod, who are given funding to advertise the military. However even then, the best of these games show the horrors of war, and corruption that can be brought about from it. I thought it was just me because I'm 35. It's not just video games, it's music, movies, TV shows. Even social interactions are lack luster now due to social media.
for real, the amount of space needed just for one game is ridiculous. i miss when you could just pop a game into the console and pla it. no downloading or anything
Yeah graphics peaked in 2015, Arkham Knight, NFS 2015, Order: 1886 and MGS5 were released that year and still looks better than new games. Witcher 3 could be added to that list but they downgraded it massively and it aged as badly as Fallout 4.
I can't decide if it's being pushed for ideological reasons, or if it's a deliberate tactic to tank share prices to allow some corp to scoop up all the studios / devs / franchises at bargin prices. If I had to pick, I'd say ideology... but that it will lead to a firesale, inadvertantly.
Welp, everyone pull out your PS3's, 360's and other assorted consoles. Time to buckle down and enjoy the classics because it looks like we might be here for a while. Glad I still got em. Need to update my library again though, thanks for the recommendations 👍🏾
Hell yeah brotha. Got my 360, GameCube and N64 and they’ve been providing me with all the gaming fun I need. I thought I was just getting older and losing my taste for gaming…turns out new games just STINK. Bust out the retros and have yourself a time. Who the hell needs a PS5 that barely has any quality, original titles anyway?
Same. Been a PC lifer and never owned a console but my potato laptop was good enough to play most of these titles in the video and keep me sane all through campus. I already know I'll build a good PC to replay my favorite games from this era on max difficulty and settings
now that I think about it, the most "newly made" games I've bought are Elden Ring and Helldivers 2. Kenshi released 2019, and Bannerlord was 2020. Starsector is in beta. Damn, I've been playing old games without noticing xd
Somehow games now have more funding, dev time and devs working on them, yet they come out broken, half finished, charge extra to get all content and require constant Internet connection. Back then, games just had a soul to them that cannot be captured by modern games. Everything today feels like a marvel movie.
This. It's basically DEI in effect. The truly talented guys have LONG left the building or are in senior management positions/ collecting a paycheck. The people working on AAA games now are just not as talented or passionate about what they make.
Devs were given sometimes less than 3 years to make a AAA games, and they were actually good. Now they get 5+ years in development hell and the games turn out mid or garbage.
@@12ealDealOfficialI don't think it has anything to do with DEI in most cases, though there definitely is cases of it. I think its game companies chasing trends and trying to become the next "big thing", like Overwatch or Fortnite, all while pursuing the goal of over monetization. Contrast this to 10+ years ago where games felt like they were trying to be their own thing. Games as a service is what's actively killing games. I blame mobile games for starting it. I remember talking to my friends in 2015 or so predicting that mobile game practices would bleed into AAA games and be the death of them. Here we are almost 10 years later and I think I was right.
From my experience I find that the older games have a more heart and you can spend less time on them. Nowadays games have less heart and you spend more time on them. Now yes there are some good modern games out there but they haven’t been coming around as often as it used to. Oh and for this 3:15 I am one of those people who totally don’t mind playing as a less attractive character as long as they are at best interesting! But I know that it’s not for everyone.
Literally 95% of the games I am playing right now are older. So many older games I never got to play are getting played, and I am not complaining. By the time I’m done playing all these older games, most of these studios will be shut down anyway, and everything will change back to the way it was.
We are the correct audience though. Those of us between 35-45 are THE gaming generation. We were the ones who played games since childhood for the first time and now are all old enough to have the money to buy whatever games we want. We are the ideal market unlike younger people who may be gamers but have no money or at least less money. Any studio/publisher with half a brain should be focused heavily on the massive audience of 30 somethings who grew up with games, still want to play them, and have actual professional income to spend.
While I wouldn't say we are the main audience, the 30-50 year old gamers now are a MASSIVE chunk of total customer base. So, realistically speaking there should be a diversified market for games, there should be your fortnites, your amogus, minecrafts and robloxes for the younger people, but there should also be a veritable market aimed at adults with more mature and complex themes, something that the western game devs are so heavily opposed to making, there's an actual gold mine for studios that would be capable of making great games for this market as games like Wukong are proving.
The good thing about playing older titles is that you ALWAYS find something new to enjoy. I grew up with the PS2 and im still discovering either new games or playing franchises i have missed out on.
Other games I would add are Alien Isolation, Alien vs Predator 2010, Assassin's Creed 1, Bioshock 2, Brothers in Arms Hells Highway, Bully, Brutal Legends, Call of Duty Big Red One and World at War, Call of Juarez 2, Castlevania Lords of Shadow, Condemned, Fear, The Darkness 1 and 2, Darksiders, The Evil Within 1 and 2, Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon, Ghostbuster the Video Game, Halo 3, Greedfall, King Kong, Metro 2033, Ninja Gaiden 1 and 2, Nexomon Extinction, Rage, Resident Evil 4, Shadow Warrior remake, South Park the Stick of Truth, Spec Ops The Line, Terminator Resistance, Wolfenstein The New Order, and The Wolf Among Us.
Gta v, Skyrim, Halo 3, cod 4, mass effect, borderlands 1/2, red dead redemption, far cry, saints row, god of war just to name a few of the games that came out within the span of 5 years. All the games I listed are infinitely better than the stuff I see now, I’ve had conversations with people about this very subject and we all agree games nowadays SUCK

I recently played Mafia 2 again and it felt like entering another world. There are so many racist slurs and other things that would probably make headlines in woke media if this game was realeased today. But I enjoyed it :D
This is why I love my backlog list. I’m currently playing the Mafia series, and I just finished the Metro series and Resident Evil 7 a few days ago. I’m enjoying gaming again after months of not even booting up my consoles.
The quality just isn’t there anymore, and on top of that, I pretty much expect some sort of forced diversity in today’s games also. Not too much incentive to pay $70.
Every year I always re-play F.E.A.R. The story is dark, the A.I are clever and the overall feel of it is ominous. Another is the first Unreal, because it is just unreal.
a man of culture, also play fear 1 its so good, the enemies are cool, the gameplay is cool the only thing that ruins it is alma feel like they could have went with something else instead of a cliche. Unreal is goat, the devs put their heart into it and i could feel it, bot support is awsome something most new games dont do.
Damn, I need to replay FEAR, it was absolutely insane. I recommend the burnout series if you like over the top extreme action(specifically takedown and revenge).
I love metro man. It's immersive, great story and I always try to play in Russian. Lastly I installed exodus and it was good from what I remembered but I don't have the energy to play it. Would probably love it.
Home page recommendations pulled through today. I just turned 23 last week, and for I'd say the past 5 or so years I've just been going backwards because I got so jaded with modern gaming. I did play some older games growing up, DOOM 2, Half-Life, and some older console games, being inspired by AVGN back in the day, but I didn't delve in and focus on old games almost exclusively until a few years ago. Some of my personal favorites I've played in the past few years are Daggerfall, System Shock, and Fallout 1, which I had played before, but I finally sat down and beat a few years ago. There's plenty of other games I've played, mostly DOS games, but those 3 are the games that have in some way changed how I view video games, and what I want to see in games going forward in one way or another. Honestly having gone back far enough I've changed on what I would even consider to be an "old" game. I also like to try random games on myabandonware, and sometimes you can find something really good, or at least with some cool ideas.
I am with you man. After Spiderman 2 i bought an xbox x so i can start my collection of older backward compatible games. In 2024 i only bought Like A Dragon 8 and Dragons Dogma 2, and both disappointed me, that was the last straw on new games. Japan is no longer safe from the west influence. I have moved on to just emulating PS1,PS2,WII,Gamecube,Dreamcast and PS3 games and having a blast doing so. I have 0 interest in anything coming out from AAA, after 2015 it has gotten harder and harder to find worthwhile games. Last year 2023 was just a big heap of trash, the only original game worthwhile for me was Dave the Diver, an indie title.
I gave up on Consoles had both Xbox and Playstation and finally saved and got a good pc. Only play older games with mods, don't regret just regret getting Xbox and Playstation. With Steam and Gog you can have a very good and deep library of games .
It really was. It mirrors western culture in general. Everything got worse including music, cars, movies, and daily life. The economy might've been pretty good in the second half of the 10s but the zeitgeist was completely hijacked.
i cant stand eastern games very well either besides the women's character designs every other aspect is just as bad like western games gameplay is only slightly better, same bullshit applies to indie games

I recently discovered Mafia and I'm working my way through it. That game is fricking amazing and it is honestly refreshing to have a protagonist who is a normal straight guy who is masculine, and has a love interest that is a beautiful, good natured woman.
honestly, I've noticed how the game industry today have this tendency of appealing to a younger more immature and therefore a more influenceable, malleable audience, because at the end of the day any form of media is a form of indoctrination and during times like these, you bet they do use also videogames to push certain agendas. in the past, younger audience was also the target but somehow the theme and execution of videogames was literally the contrary of what they are today. meanwhile today, from the point of view of the consumer the ones making things move are not the youngsters, not at all, they have no money after all. but the 20ish, 30ish, 40ish men from older generations who experienced gaming during its goldtimes.
I couldn't exactly put my finger on it, and tbh I feel a little stupid that it took me this long to recognize the right word for it. But yes the real problem with it, thd true issue? Is in fact a lack of maturity and lack of care to a more mature audience in favor of immature little basrards instead.

I played the campaigns of the Call of Duty Modern Warfare trilogy, and I enjoyed the stories it told. Older games made you think about how to proceed, and completing all they had to offer granted you the competitive edge to keep going. Something new games stopped focusing on.

No? I’m talking about after PlayStation and Xbox decided to put online behind a paywall. Just because there’s a few gems here and there in between 2012-2016 doesn’t mean that was a good era. I could say the same for the current era. 2012-2016 had a shitty games released from a lot of great Japanese companies like Capcom, Konami, Sega, and Square. Western devs were beginning to produce industry standard generic shit. Consoles became obsolete compared to PC gaming. After games like Arkham City and SR The Third came out gaming was going downhill.

An edgy game that was high quality but will never come back due to Disney is Volition's The Punisher on PS2. It had fatalities that were as brutal as Manhunt & you could shoot limbs & heads off. The gunplay is basically OG Saints Row, but with challenge-based level design like Max Payne so every level felt like an epic shoot out. Punisher used to make Marvel-slop look badass.
The Punisher game certainly had an appeal, but that was mostly thanks to Thomas Jane's voice there. Mr. Jane has successfully managed to depict the ultimate personification of this action hero, and etch it in our minds and over the veneer of the somewhat average game. He does have a great voice and had a perfect Punisher look, gotta give him that... But on the subject of brutality, it was never even in the same galaxy as Manhunt. Manhunt managed to out-mortal-kombat Mortal Kombat for the next thousand years, at least. The only games that could approach Manhunt in that subject - are the legendary Soldier of Fortune, Rogue Warrior and Mad Max. (there is Manhunt's sequel too).
I am surprised you did not mention Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, its the most unique game in the series, very goofy story and guns (lasers and 80s synthase aesthetic ). Not to mention its not a DLC its its own game.

@@12ealDealOfficialActivists mate, you mean their activists
Nowadays games have less heart and you spend more time on them.

unless the economy is fucked enough then things will get so much worse
Having a backlog those days is needed.
Hell of a self centered comment but you got the heart I guess 😂
While I wouldn't say we are the main audience, the 30-50 year old gamers now are a MASSIVE chunk of total customer base. So, realistically speaking there should be a diversified market for games, there should be your fortnites, your amogus, minecrafts and robloxes for the younger people, but there should also be a veritable market aimed at adults with more mature and complex themes, something that the western game devs are so heavily opposed to making, there's an actual gold mine for studios that would be capable of making great games for this market as games like Wukong are proving.

Mr. Jane has successfully managed to depict the ultimate personification of this action hero, and etch it
in our minds and over the veneer of the somewhat average game. He does have a great voice and had a

But on the subject of brutality, it was never even in the same galaxy as Manhunt. Manhunt managed to

@@InfiniteDesign91 and it’s great.
God no... MP3 was fucking terrible. None of the noir style or mood from the first 2. It was literally just any other 3rd person cover shooter. Total disgrace to the series.
@@samuel5591 I do agree about the noir style, but I do not agree about terrible game. Shooting mechanics is the best in 3rd installment of series. I love the whole trilogy though. Second part had not needed Mona’s section…
Games before 2020 were awesome & more fun than games nowadays.
reality has been fucked since 2012
No, is 2017
2012 is fine. It's bad since 2016.
No
The only new game I completed 100% last year was RoboCop:rogue city. It felt to me like a somewhat classic FPS. It also helped that it was based around the 80s RoboCop film instead of the remake 😂. I’ve been playing older games ever since I was disappointed with Starfield. I own Metal gear solid
Silent hill 2
Morrowind
Oblivion
Mass effect
Hitman:blood money
Splinter cell:chaos theory and a few others
Id also add Gothic 1 and 2 to the list
Silent Hill 3 and Downpour
Hitman contracts
Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3
The "remake" was not Robocop. It was robocock.🤣
I can't agree more that Older games are just better, not in graphics, but in gameplay, story, soundtracks for some, and creativity in the games for another, and many of them are just a lot more fun
Besides that, most older games didn't take as many storage on your device as new games would
Also, new games that are great would be mostly made by eastern devs, and some indie devs
Older games cared more for players, art vision and gameplay. Now, they don't have any of the basic things that Made them good games.
Back in the good days quality is what sold copies. Nowadays micro transactions make more money for some reason
Glad we finally got one new AAA title here recently that actually is great. Highly reccomend "astro bot" to anyone with a ps5. Omg I haven't had that much fun playing a video game since crash bandicoot and Mario and sonic as a kid. It seriously makes me feel like that happy kid again every time I fire it up. And the best part is there is no paid DLC. Everything is included with your initial purchase. They don't want to nickel and dime us like most major studios anymore do... i respect that so much. Also it just dropped and has like zero bugs, which is unheard of for new games these days. That studio did a great job on delivering the old gaming experience for a newer generation and delivering a great game like what we used to get back in the good ol days of gaming
Would like to try it when it comes to pc. Playable solo right?
Army of two was a banger to play with your buddy. I played it so much I unlocked all achievements and weapons
7:15 one of my favorite games of all time.
Me too
Glad you brought up nfs hot pursuit. Pure racing, no cringe story or characters. And also, it’s crazy how games before tried to sell you on fun cause that’s what we care about. But nowadays it’s just…no.
My friend gifted me the game, at first i thought it was dogshit, but now im addicted to online
Man I swear the fact I can only count on 3 devs now to make good new games is crazy
Fromsoftware
Rockstar
And occasionally Nintendo
I think Nintendo is more than occasionally
@@SnipingIsFun probably true
Yea, but Nintendos copyright laws are trash and Rockstar abandoned their most recent game(RDR2) in less than a year(not to mention the scam that was the RDR1 "remaster" and sharkcards).
pfp is gay asf opinion disregarded
Add Game Science (Wukong) Sandlot (EDF series) and Granzella (R-Type Final 2).
I am so glad you've decided to include a list of recommended alternatives. I know and even own most of these, but it's a good reminder of what I still have available to experience and better yet, which ones to add to that list.
Gran turismo 2, Gran turismo 4, Xenoblade chronicles 1, final fantasy 6, final fantasy 5, Chrono trigger, Xenogears, Nier replicant, Nier automata, Castlevania symphony of the night.
Some of my favourites of all time
Crysis (2007) is the GOAT, probably my favorite game of all time. They did this game dirty and by C2 they took away most of the open-world feature. C2 should've picked up where C1 left it. The OG Crysis is one of the most underrated video games ever
Not underrated when it's loved by many
But can you run crysis?
Bad Company goes hard
Ill never forget the golden says of halo 3 online on the xbox 360 and playing it in my dark living room like i was in another dimension. That feeling is now gone and can't feel it ever again.
2007 halo 3: everyone had a mic..everyone had something to say. Everyone were gamers and everyone trolled hardcore and still had an amazing time and a roller coaster ride of social gameplay.
2024. NOBODY talks anymore. NOBODY plays those golden titles like they used to. Im still not playing fortnite. You get banned for trolling or account removed. You get recorded 24.7 on any shooter games or most games. Games are boring asf and the woke message makes it even more bland and uninteresting and unoriginal. Nothing exciting. Most games today in 2024 are cheaply made like its LEGIT still a remastered ps2 or xbox game on ps5/series x/s consoles. I seen more potential on ps3 and xbox 360. RIP xbox and Playstation. Ill never forget 😢
12:32 thanks so much for bringing up the saboteur. I’m actually working on making it into a mini-series script and I got a little extra motivation to crack out some pages hearing you give it some props
Mad max is such a great game, they had no right to make it so beautifully and they did
Only games I play now:
Halo CE - Reach
COD2 - BO2
RDR & RDR2
Far Cry 2 & 5
do you play RDR in a PS3 emulator, or do you have a *lot* of consoles?
Hey, another red dead enjoyed I see.
@@warmike A surprising amount of people emulate older games like rdr1 on their PC. Im playing RDR1 using ryujinx on my linux desktop.
Guitar Hero 3, COD WAW, OG MW 1-3, black ops 1-2, DMC 3 SE, sleeping dogs, king kong the official game, the 3D era mortal kombat games and Shaolin Monks, Area 51, metal gear revengeance, Budukai Tenkaichi, Turok reboot, dino crisis, og crash bandicoot, mirrors edge, dying light, resident evils 1-5, dead rising 2, left 4 dead 1-2, F.E.A.R., Amnesia, and Cry of Fear are all in my constant rotation
The Red Dead Redemption Series.
The God of War Series.
The ultimate duo
Only the PS2 GoW games r good these new ones r garbage... And red dead is meh IMO...
@@subzero308little kid trying to fit in with the older people.
RDR2 has to be the best game ive ever played honestly. Red dead 1 is just as great.
@@subzero308 You missed everything when you said red dead is meh.
I'm currently playing Bayonetta 1 Remastered on the PS4, the original was released in 2009 or 2010.
That game was the 7th generation's Stellar Blade. I recommend it to anyone who likes fast-paced action games and over-the-top fight choreography.
In that same vein (and same developer) Metal Gear Rising: Revenegance is top-tier and absolutely worth a playthrough
Recently I got gifted five games and it was such a beautiful and funny gift it was a letter, that had an Xbox account's email and password, anyways the account had :
Ac Valhalla
Watch dogs legion
Hogwarts legacy (already played)
Kcd (already played)
Shenmue 1&2 HD
Now here's the thing, i love this gift so much, because of one single game, people who played the game would know it the moment they read the name of that game, shenmue 1&2... Dude, there's no way that game was from 1999, the fact that we now have such advanced technology yet we rather make games that feel like chores, when in 1999 there was a game where even doing actual chores was fun. It's crazy
2 hidden gems for me is Overlord and Overlord 2 on xbox 360
Mordern gamers: What? You DON'T like paying for that half completed game that will never be completed, just glorified walking simulation, uncreative, need mulipte form of payment and account, made to fit corporate and woke activists strandards, and lose the right to own the game you pay for?
Sane gamers: Yes.🗿
Just imagine going to an appliance store and buying a broken light.
Why? No reason. And that's why you don't.
I couldn't agree more, I think civilization will look back upon the late 90's to early 2010's as the Golden Era of Video Games.
Playing God of War 2 for the first time and its absolutely *epic*
Im glad theyre a handful of people who appcietae old games. Ive been playnng these old games for quite some time. The game im currently playing is King of Fighters 13 and i can honestly say, im having a blast playing that game, i think more people need to realise theyre is a huge treasure trove of games in the past generations. Hell im excited for MVC figthing collection and i havent been excited for a new game in a long time.
Gaming took a dive after 2016. You'd be lucky to find a hidden gem underneath all the garbage in today's landscape.
Finally, the person who thinks like me, video games were good until 2016, only from 2017 onwards it was only decadence
Exactly like how I think. 2016 is really one of the worst years for gaming and as a whole.
@@arthurgamerpro6585 I also think the same. Most of the things not worth playing after 2016.
@@nikobellic8002 It seems I'm not the only one with this thought, video games were good in the early to mid 2010s, only in the late 2010s did they start to decline.
@@nikobellic8002 So let's say that the beginning and middle of the PS4 was good, only at the end it got bad, and I realized that video games started to decline after the Wii U was discontinued.
"Just play indie games"
Indie games are not safe from being broken and/or gay. I'd argue them to be of higher risk too
@@xmobius0ne will often throw away gameplay for a dogshit story anyway, indies have gotten so fucked up since undertale fucked the internets culture around 2015
Bullshit.
Any examples, proof or suggestions?
Older games are way better. No arguments there
Agreed
Currently playing gta 4 and it’s dlc/need for speed most wanted and fifa 10 in rotation. Having so much fun in the process
Skyrim, Fallout 4, Dead Space 1, Max Payne 3,XCOM 1 and 2, Red Dead 1 and 2, planet coaster, total war: Warhammer 2, Bioshock Infinite, Half life 2, Warhammer: vermintide 2, Metro 2033, Metro last light, Spyro the dragon, Dishonored 1 and 2, the outer worlds, most of the Halo series.
Loved ds1.
Max payne series still worth playing.
Red dead is amazing.
Oh metro metro! One of my favorite series of all time.
1:01 They changed Rim Jobs to Jim Robs.....😪. And I'm disappointed asf and I've never played Saints Row ever👀
Next video idea:
"Why i quit smoking"
"why I started drinking instead"
I would also throw in Alien: Isolation. Absolutely terrifying survival horror game, with one of the best enemy AIs ever made (ie the titular Xenomorph)
The "Statistics" will show people have stopped playing video games. But the truth is, more people than ever are playing old games, offline.
Some of my old game favorites: TES Morrowind, C&C Red Alert 2, Saints Row 2, Mass Effect trilogy, Dragon age Origins, Medal of Honor Pacific assault, COD 2, Diablo 2, Far Cry 3, Assassin's Creed 1-4 and all in-between short games, Tomb Raider Annivesary, Legend and Underworld, Heroes of Might and Magic 4 and probs few more I had played but forgotten...
Edit: thanks for reminding about Fallouts from 1st to New Vegas. Forgot these legends
People make fun of a game for being edgy. Even years ago edgy games were made fun of. Shadow The Hedgehog for example.
You're missing out by not playing indie games and just sticking to the triple A stuff.
Indie Games kinda suck tho, There are some really REALLY good indie games tho, Like Cuphead, Pizza Tower and uhhh Fnaf i guess (Does that still count as Indie Tho).
But see, those games are the EXCEPTION, not the rule, while most Indie Games are shovelware nonsense and mascot horror, not a lot that's worth playing, and it's all the same. I mean, i can't expect everyone to be 100% Original, but even just visually, they're all just pixel art and such.
That's just my opinion tho.
@@Fatih_M177 You still missed Hollow Knight, Celeste and Hades
@@feintexp-2530 i guess so, but i haven't really played those
