    There's a special eye setting, similar to the Dragon eyes or Frenzy eyes the player can unlock, which gives the player shiny, silvery irises, which the Silver Tears surprisingly don't use. It seems likely it would've been applied if the player completed the unused Asimi questline, drinking a silver tear and allowing it to inhabit their body.

    Something of note regarding the Silver Tears is that they turn inte the grey-skinned Nightfolk, who supposedly inhabited or at least are deeply connected to the underground cities.
    Personally, I think they are taking the form of former inhabitants they met at some point, instead of taking on something new like the player
    Edit: The Nightfolk are even said to have bled silver long ago

    • @Greywander87
      @Greywander87 10 месяцев назад +30

      That's an interesting detail. Do the nightfolk predate the albinaurics? Given that the albinaurics are still around while the nightfolk seem mostly extinct, I'd guess that probably the nightfolk came first. Were the albinaurics an attempt to recreate the nightfolk? Or is it mere coincidence that they both share silver blood? Are the nightfolk the same as the Nox (who were related to the Numen), or were they perhaps created by the Nox to serve as slaves? Perhaps the nightfolk and the silver tears are actually one and the same? So many questions.

    • @luna7157
      @luna7157 10 месяцев назад +26

      @@Greywander87I speculate nightfolk predate the albinaurics by virtue of being the result of intermarriage between silver tears and tarnished.
      Nightfolk can be chosen for the player tarnished in the character selection screen. It is said nightfolk once bled silver, meaning they no longer do- you can test this, player nightfolk bleed red. Silver tears still bleed silver, so I'm inclined to believe they had children by tarnished mates. The player character is either among the tarnished who were banished with Godfrey, or a descendant of one.
      Albinaurics pointedly have legs which do not work, and cannot procreate except by means of bestowing a silver droplet upon an enlarged member of their kind in the Consecrated Snowfield. They are purely artificial, having been created both by Carian royalty and the sorcerers of Raya Lucaria using Nox techniques.
      We do not know when the earliest albinaurics were made, but the first generation is mentioned as having served in the first Liurnian civil war.

    I always thought that the Silver Tear NPC's had a strong resemblance to the Nightfolk base template at character creation. The Nightfolk were said to bleed silver, which also seems to be a connection to Silver Tears. Curiously, the only other place I think Nightfolk were mentioned outside of character creation is the flavor text or Urumi, a weapon that also seems related to the Nox weapons in functionality.

  • @thomashoward5450

    It's a small thing, but the enemy mimic tear appearances are like the D brothers in that they have grayish-blue skin and silver hair and eyes. The Nightfolk background in the character creator menu also has such a character.

    • @michaelmannix1604
      @michaelmannix1604 10 месяцев назад +12

      I feel like there's a good deal you can gather about them without hard text, at least. For example, Albinaurics are man-made beings who also bleed silver, so it's likely the secrets of the Nightfolk were partly uncovered by modern sorcerers, who then applied this knowledge to fashion their own homunculi, albeit less "perfect." (Then again, the silver tear clones have extremely basic intelligence compared to Albinaurics. If you simply place a ledge between you and the clone, they'll mindlessly walk over the edge to their death.)
      Funnily enough, the silver blood detail seems to be carried over from Bloodborne, in which the man-made kin of the cosmos bled quicksilver. So maybe you could interpret some thematic parallels between the Nightfolk and the Pthumerians, lol.

  • @michaelmannix1604

    Regarding Magnus, there is mention of a Tarnished who befriended the Ancestral Followers, and who was gifted by them the Spiralhorn Shield. Although, you'd think Magnus would have wielded it if he was said Tarnished, so I feel like he was more so designed to look primitively savage-maybe more like a Demi-human. Besides, his weapon is made of metal, and Followers explicitly reject the use of such.
    (Speaking of, I always found it unusual that the Followers' blue eyes, hair, and skin have visual similarity to Ranni's doll form. It makes me wonder if Ranni's mentor might have been related to the Followers, seeing as some appear in the Consecrated Snowfield, a region with numerous yet subtle ties to Ranni.)

    • @michaelmannix1604
      @michaelmannix1604 10 месяцев назад +1

      @awhellnah__ I was thinking more that the two moons-the usual one visible to the northeast, and the second to the north, but only visible from the Moonlight Altar-illustrate the Mountaintops of the Giants and the Consecrated Snowfield as having fundamental ties to Rennala and Ranni, respectively.
      Before even getting into the implications of Ranni and Miquella's connections, the Consecrated Snowfield is the only surface region with white bowers, normally only found in Siofra River, another region connected to Ranni's story. Astel reappears here as well, perhaps another subtle indication of the Consecrated Snowfield's "purpose." Lastly, and more just kind of curious, it's the only region where Rimed Crystal Buds grow, an ingredient used solely to create the frost pots devised by Ranni's personal adherants.
      Also it's snowy.

    3:14 - This one got me thinking when I first saw it in the game.
    These Silver Tear mimicries aren't dissimilar to one of the selectable character phenotypes - the Nightfolk, whose description mentions that they supposedly bled silver in the distant past.
    I can see two possible ways to interpret this.
    1. The Nightfolk originate from Silver Tears that forsook the path of lordship (whether of their own volition or through their makers' will) in pursuit of trying to become perfect imitations of 'humans' (using the term loosely). Eventually, this succeeded to such a degree that the humanoid Tears were able to interbreed with existing populations, eventually becoming such peerless simulacra that they were literally indistinguishable - to the point where the inhuman qualities of the original Silver Tears gradually faded away.
    2. The Silver Tears were made by the Nox, who seem to have grey/silver skin. Thus, the Tears' human forms actually would have fit in among the grey-skinned inhabitants of the Eternal City, and only seem like a giveaway to those intruding upon Nokstella.

You would get to Prison Town only after the first assassination, and being welcomed into the Recusants as one of them. Rya will them tell you about strange noises comming from behind the wall. You would then explore Prison Town and whenever you got back inside the Ghost would be ready to spawn and tell you to not trust the Recusants and Rykard.

    Hey Zullie, I have enteresting curiosity that might be worth looking into if you haven't already.
    In Mogwyn's dynasty there is a seedling erdtree between all the big birds that has a golden seed loot as usual.
    However there is also a golden seed on some rocks higher up that can be reached with some risky jumping, I believe before heading into the cave that leads to the grace before Mogh.
    Curiously, from my experience at least, picking either of these golden seeds will cause the other to dissappear.
    Presumably these two pick-ups share the same item ID, similary to the items on the collapsed bridge in DS3 which you previously covered.
    It made me wonder if there are any other examples of this in Elden Ring.

    There's another rather inexplicable NPC who I at least don't recall in any of your NPC unmasking videos, that being Recusant Henricus, an NPC invader who attacks the player in front of the Limgrave colosseum. He's always stumped me because he's a recusant who's wearing the Eye Surcoat, implying some connection to Gideon. Whether that's because Gideon sent him inside Volcano Manor to learn of the recusants' activities, or if he's a turncoat who's joined the recusants for good is unclear. You also find the Eye Surcoat yourself on a body in Rykard's arena, of all places, which just thickens the plot further as to Gideon having some tie to the recusants (or just sending numerous pawns to their deaths scoping out Volcano Manor)

    The Nameless White Masks were a group of field surgeons. This is confirmed in the White Mask set, speaking of how Mogh drew a group of field surgeons into contact with his accursed blood, and only Varré maintained his sanity. The other surgeons, taken leave of their senses, stay within Mohg's domain, perhaps similarly to the astray Albinaurics. You find the field surgeon's signature weapon in Stormveil Castle, so who knows where and when they were deployed.
    The white mask set itself is claimed to be the uniform of field surgeons, the Dagger Talisman features a White Mask and presumably miséricorde dagger.
    Knights in the real world across Europe and parts of Asia carried a weapon such as this (the "rondel" dagger) and so did the battlefield physician, with differing design. Many armoured knights went to ground fighting, grappling with each other, striking and sometimes abandoning all grip on their main weapon to draw their rondel dagger and hunt a space between armour plates that it may be thrust through.
    For knights, this was in the most exposed and disabling places - in the armpit, behind the knee, or through your helmet visor. Miséricorde wielded by a physician, well, they'd target the same places. The visor from which your eyes are exposed can be pierced to destroy the brain. Under the arm, it may be pushed through through at an angle to pierce the heart. Incredibly brutal for "mercy." Some thrusts delivered with the miséricorde would be... ineffective. Some would neatly end the poor soul. Some would miss the heart, only accelerating death through the creation of further blood loss, shock, and pain. It's hinted this is how Varré became a sadist. "A sense of Mercy is a catalyst for bloodlust", the Dagger Talisman reads.
    Being battered with twelve broken/crushed bones, internally hemorrhaging from more than one place... it could take many agonizing minutes to die. It's interesting and sad that the physicians adopted carrying this weapon too. Sorry for the essay, thank you for the video
