  • We update you on the status of what we are working on in the shop. We have an all original 1971 Dodge Challenger in the shop. Joe's Dodge D100 pickup made its way into the shop after years of sitting idle. Also, Joe randomly picked up a Sun Distributor machine so stay tuned for more updates!!

The 67 Newport is super cool. That car must be able to do a lot of speed. I would think, with the 3.23 ... about 140 at 5200 rpm, maybe more. In an older video on the Newport, you said you wished you had a higher stall converter. I think its better that way, more efficient at speed, even if a bit slower on the take off. Did you ever time the car in the 1/4? On the video, it sounded like you were shifting too early. This will probably shift well at 5500 or more. It sounded like you were shifting at 4500. On my 68 Imperial, I have a comp cam milder than yours, and shifting at 5000 makes the car go real nice, but you have to do manual shifts. I bet it will be even faster if I shift higher. The Imperial is like the Newport. a high speed car. If you have lots of room in front of you, that car will go fast, and real smooth while doing speed. Its got 2.94 sure grip.
I have a terrible leak on the 440 rear main. How about dropping by Austin and help me fix that? ;)
    Cheers!

Demetri Dar has 3.91 in it currently. Also no tach...

@@joesgarage9953 This would be the ideal car for a gear vendor over drive. I prefer to keep my cars simple, but if you have to have 3.91 rears, you also want to have some good high speed performance and cruising. The tach (only $40) will make a big difference in your performance. The way your engine is set up, you need to shift at 5500. Old school 3 speeds have large gear ratio spacing, and higher rpm shifting helps keep the torque curve up. You also need a good size transmission cooler. At least I need it for extensive high speed driving. Maybe a brief 10 -15 seconds of WOT does not heat up the fluid enough. Cheers.
