At last! In a couple of brief sentences not only the function but an incredibly simple test of vacuum advance on a distributor is explained. Bewdy. Thanks mate.
Replaced my vacuum advance today on my 1962 Mercury Comet, it made the world of difference! Last year, the Comet began to get more and more sluggish. I suspected the carb, and had that rebuilt by All American Carburetors in Florida. It really need rebuilding, and it came back looking better than new! These guys know what they're doing. I replaced the points and condenser too, but it was still dogging out. So finally, I pulled the vacuum advance off, extremely easy job, and I could blow air through the unit (diaphragm shot). A $30 part, easy repair, she's all perky again!
Thank you very much - I'm replacing the vacuum advance on my 1951 Ford Flathead today. I ordered it from O'Reilly Auto Parts yesterday and it should be in sometime today. Thanks for posting.
hello good sir, my advancer doesnt hold vacuum, is it the cause of my car cannot go more than 80kph? if i try to do so the car jerks and loses power, is the vacuum advancer the culprit?
hi if the diapham arm conneted to the top plate of the distributor and the diapham does'nt move then the diapham has a hole in it and the vacumm advance unit neeeds to be replaced.
hi the top plate in the distributor maybe stuck, dirty, secied, bent or the points screw maybe stopping the top plate, also see my other comment. hope this helps Emi
