"It's just a flying saucer, Ed" - Peggy is SO realized that she had a 2023 reaction in 1979 to Aliens showing up.
The fact a throwaway line in season 1 about trouble in Sioux Falls led the writers to create this is amazing
I don’t think that was a throwaway line. I think it was intentional. Each season has some sort of reference to events in another season (even Season 4, which takes place in 1950, decades earlier).
@@TheTerryGeneI don't think Noah Hawley expected the series to be anything more than a mini-series initially.
@@ColombianThunder Correct. Hawley had no plans for anything beyond season 1. Fans of season 1 liked Lou so much that they wanted to know more about him and Sioux Falls. Hawley took some time, put some ideas together, and eventually came out and said there would be a season 2 showing exactly that.
Here's another funny theory about a throwaway line in a Fargo season resurfacing in a later season.
In season 2 Mike Milligan jokes that Lou makes him and the Kitchen Brothers sound :
" like a Prog-Rock band. Ladies and gentlemen, introducing MIKE MILLIGAN AND THE KITCHEN BROTHERS!! RRAAAAHHHH!!!"
Years later, the current season 5 opens with the most iconic anthem of THE most iconic Prog-Band,: I'VE SEEN ALL GOOD PEOPLE by YES.
It's playing over a slow motion pan over a school Fall Festival that has turned into an insane brawl! The scene looks like the beginning of a Rage-Zombie movie until they show the time/era setting: FALL 2019!
So I'm wondering: was the song choice a deliberate call back to this line or a coincidence?
After rewatching the first season I realized it's mentioned way more than I thought it was. I thought Lou only brought it up once during a scene in his diner early in the season but it's actually mentioned or alluded to by Lou and Schmitt several times throughout the season.
“History is written by the victors. History is full of liars”
17:33 I'm pretty sure this confirms Peggy was staring at the flying Saucer when she hit the youngest brother with her car.
Lou explains the UFO scene in season 1 episode 9 in his dinner to Billy Bob Thornton.
Samantha: Yeah wait, what the hell was that?
Me: It’s just a flying saucer.
Actually, it is teased throughout the season way more than you might think. Especially around bad stuff going down. There are subtle flashes of light after stuff, and overhead shots, like when Bear is leading his niece into the woods to kill her.
The narrator was played by Martin Freeman, using his native British accent instead of the Minnesota accent that he used when he played Lester Nygaard back in Season 1.
@tevinwms1104 Yeah, I figured that was him :)
Awesome! Didn’t know that either. So far so good on season 5 too!
There will be another character from Season 1 doing the narration in Season 3 ...
I love it when they do that ❤
@@superchango1 cannot wait for that!!! I love this show so much 💕
that’s martin freeman (lester) doing the narration if y’all didn’t notice
That head cop that turns the two-way radio off and says we are going radio silent is the biggest buffoon. I remember from when I watched this the first time, and he told someone, [you'll be up a tree without a paddle]..🙄
"It's just a flying saucer" pretty much sums up Peggy's character and mentality lol
That Flying Saucer came in clutch for Lou haha. 😂
Alien Leader: 👽 "Now is the time we make contact, head towards the loud bangs so we can say hello"
Alien Pilot: 👽"Above them now, activating spotlight....oh fuck that dude just blew a guys brains out!" 🛸
Alien Leader: 👽"They're crazy savages! Abort! Get us out of here!".
For me the most sensible explanation to why Peggy is the only one to not care about the UFO is because of how she often ignores reality and live on her own world aka she's crazy. So yeah what is an ufo for her? it's tuesday
She's also seen the UFO in episode 1 before she hit the guy with the car
26:20 Its crazy from that time there's still receipts for buying a young native American or ads for sale from those religious boarding schools
This is the episode that everyone was waiting for! Ready to see y'all enjoy this wild ride.
I was a bit sad when Bear was killed. I kinda liked him because he seemed to be the only Gerhard that at least had some real compassion for people.
But, despite his sense of honor, he was a killer.
Radio silence means don’t transmit, not don’t listen. Hilarious
This show rarely gives you what you're expecting, yet the unexpected turns make sense throughout the story as it progresses. That's part of its brilliance.💫💫
"Put the Bear down...." 🙂 Love it - and love this show!
The Fargo series references the movies of the Coen Brothers in themes and content but in a way that isn't a recreation or remake. Their film *The Man Who Wasn't There* has random UFO content. And they also use this kind of Deus ex machina (or maybe force majeur) for resolving critical conflicts in films such as *Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?".
Your faces when that UFO made its appearance were just comedy gold!
I love the cover of 🎶"Run Through the Jungle" they play over the credits of this episode.
"At least they didn't take the Creedance"
Expecting the unexpected, and it was even further unexpected… Craaaazy episode
Yes, exactly. The story is Kansas City got credit for it. But as you see the real events were totally different. Like they say "history is written by the victors". The real versions are known by the limited number of folks who were actually there, actually survive, and if they actually talk about it, plus be truthful. Hanzee knows the truth, why would he ever talk tho.
YES!!
MORE CRAZY EPISODES OF THIS CRAZY SERIES!
Also, don't forget to watch the Post credits scene of King Skull Island, it has a surprising twist.😊
The genius Dakota cops think "radio silent" means turning off their receiver. lol
It's just a flying saucer Ed.
17:53 "what..........the f*ck? the ufo actually shows up?" -daniel
i especially liked the 5 second pause between what and the f*ck. 😆
There is a theory that Hanzee was Ottos child with the maid/chef. Why else does Otto adopt a child, and bears comment about seeing him as family makes sense still. It would also explain why Floyd never spoke with Hanzee till the end when she had to.
It could also explain Dodd's "half-breed" slurs, although that could've just been typical interracial racism
Yup. 1979. Release of Close Encounters Of The Third Kind (special edition). Sioux Falls massacre. Hanzee goes off the reservation (as it were). It all fits.
And a MN State trooper was hit by a UFO in 1979. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Val_Johnson_incident
Season 1 talking Lou to malvo at the diner. “Sioux falls” “if I told you what happened and what I saw, you’d think it was made up”. The ufo was a cool bit.
18:07 "gasp!" -sam
professional 😮
I love this episode. If you rewatch it you’ll see that not did the UFO impact major events like what happened in this episode but it seems as though much of what takes place is shot from the sky like the UFO is watching what’s going on
15:57 "OHHH! excellent job peggy." 😆
The massacre at the motel is the stuff of true crime documentaries.
i subscribed to Hulu. #1 reason: 99 cents. #2: Fargo with the Schmitts.
Although Floyd and Bear treat Hanzee kinder than Dodd, the most complimentary thing they call him is 'like family'. I believe in the theory that Hanzee is Otto Gearhart's son from a Native maid(but not Wilma, I think Floyd sent Hanzee's mom back to the Rez before he was born and Otto hired Hanzee after he got back from Vietnam). Thus, Hanzee felt that was just as insulting and demeaning as Dodd's treating him like a guard dog. Because they were his blood relations but refused to truly acknowledge him as one.
So I think he was planning on betraying the Gearharts for awhile, just waiting for the opportunity. He could have easily killed Ed and Lou when he saw them sneak out the back of the police station. He didn't hear Bear's retreat order so that was his own decision. As he continued to track Ed, Peggy and Dodd, the only impulsive act he commits is when he shoots all those people at the bar. This of course was set off by the immediate hostility he received due to his race. However, I believe this wasn't a spark to his path forward as much as it was a resolution to treat everyone as an enemy. I suspect he always planned to kill Dodd, frame Ed and Peggy for it and use them to lure the Gearharts into a Kansas City ambush. So when he goes on his killing spree at Sioux Falls its a logical finale to his campaign against all his enemies. He may have continued to pursue Ed and Peggy for emotional reasons but stopped when he decided to go collect his reward from Kansas City and found his own empire.
2:04 😳
sam is professional.
*Peggy:* _"Its just a Flying Saucer, Ed"_
I hope _Kirsten Dunst_ is not Crazy like _Peggy_ especially she's married to the Butcher Ed Blomquist _Jesse Plemons_ in real life 😄
Y'all got me Fargo now 😂 i just finished season 1 EP 1 💯
The only thing I can fault Hanzi for is killing Peggy's boss (and maybe the shopkeeper). He could have left her tied up or something. Everything else, 100% justifiable 😅 The Gerharts treated him like a dog and were shocked when he bit back...
But she coulda got loose and called the cops or Peggy to warn them. Leaving her alive would have been humane but killing her would have been cold blooded logic. And you can see that Hanzee favored the latter.
Martin Freeman himself did the narration for this episode. Wonderful little wink to the first season.
2:11 number of days not killing innocent people: 0
Ufo ’s definately belong to that time period and location, but I find this ufo thing partly as a tribute to Brothers Coen who created original Fargo and also made excellent film called Man ”Who Wasn’t There”.
The poster of the UFO saying "We're not alone" is the theme of the season. The season is about miscommunication and failure to relate to others; I think that's why you have so much split screen, to visually represent the idea of separation among people. That's why the massacre doesn't come from a straight war, but from someone who was never seen as anything more than a tool by his own "family". This is why I think the UFO appears during the massacre, as a punctuation of that theme.
The theme of Fargo (the movie and the series) is also always family and unpredictability and chaos. Some tiny changes may have massive unpredictable outcomes.
Liking this video was as easy as pushing a button!💌
I am loving ❤ 💕 😍 💗 season 5 so far!! CRAZY and great so far.
I liked the conversation with Hank and Lou at the end he will see Betsy be patient
What an episode!!! Sioux Falls baby!!!
"It's Rapid CIty all over again!"
SUCH great television!!
Kirsten Dunst is fantastic. I've liked her since she was the vampire child in "interview with a vampire". She still looks the same just bigger.
(23:19) The best contemporary example of _Deus Ex Machina_
Martin Freeman-Lester from season 1-narrating the opening pages from the True Crime book.
I love this show!! Can’t wait for season 3 - my favourite 💕💕
Great Episode! ✌️
Awesome reaction
Holy crap, I don't remember any of this episode.😮
*ohhhh yea! I remember the ufo though! ☺️
Thanks for the video!!
See you later!!
Stay safe.😊
Happy Holidays
You know I'm not mad at hansi for what he did 🤷♀️
Actualize yourself and remember to diversify your bonds.
UFO for the win
Season 5 just started and it is 🔥🔥definitely on par with the first two seasons,so far.
I could have cracked down laughing if Hank would have coated Mary Jane Watson😂
When I watched this a few years ago I could not remember anybody's name, so I gave them all nicknames... Fat Damon, Indie Pop, Mary Jane. And Keith Carradine.
𝘿𝙚𝙪𝙨 𝙚𝙭 𝙢𝙖𝙘𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙖, quite literally.
🛸
Police at the police station are not dead where Lou is from
Hanzai is a killer
So you think we will not care about the law at the end we will see
Lou is a dedicated to the case of course he is not going to be home
What!? Episode 9!? Already at the end of season 2?
Alright dammit, whose the arseholes that turned on that hadron collider again? Times been flying by...its already almost Christmas for goodness sake.
Its so ridiculous that the South Dakota top cop talks about Generals and fancies himself one. Cuz he totally sucked as one!
He posted one look out, who promptly fell asleep, thus demonstrating why REAL soldiers post two when they can. He had nobody in over watch positions on the surrounding buildings' rooftops to keep an eye out and warn them (like, say if a bunch of gun-toting hicks drove up on them). And then his brilliant 'radio silence' kept anybody from warning them! He didn't even consider that Hanzee could screw anybody's plans over!
I guess its fitting that he died in such a pathetic way, squealling for his life like a pig and literally caught with his pants down(off)!
Let's have some UFO's in this cop drama show said no one ever.😮😢
I'm going to say it, I hated Peggy at first, she became my favorite character
Please don’t pass up Noah Hawley other show which I believe is his crowning achievement, it’s a series that was also on FX called Legion it has many of the same actors, and Noah Halle uses the same sound, guy and editing.
This was the climax right here. The finale is basically just a winding down/wrapping up of everything.
Thanks. Now we can all just skip it and you just saved countless hours of people's lives that might have been wasted. You're a hero.
@@zatoichi1 Kiss my ass, too.
The thing that made me feel let down by the Sioux Falls Massacre is that it was built up so much in Season 1 as this almost poetically tragic event that really displayed some deep display of the evil mankind is capable of and then it just ends up being a shootout between cops and a mafia family. The show even goes out of it's way to dehumanize most of the participants in the shootout, making almost all of the deaths have no impact on the viewer.
It hardy feels like the profound tragedy alluded to by older Lou.
Even though I enjoyed the season, I did feel like the last three episodes were a bit disappointing, for the reasons you said. It also felt like a lot of interesting threads disappeared to make way for Hanzi's revenge story.
Agree with this...I loved the season but this episode was a letdown to me
There's a crazy amount of death that happens leading up to it. It all gets lumped together.
I can't tell how much I hate that whole UFO stuff in Fargo. I loved the movie and season 1 when everything was only about human stupidity and greed and not some supernatural events.
I still hope you'll watch season 3. In my opinion it's the second best season after season 1.
The thing I didn't like about this episode was that the director totally changed the style of the rest of the season, so it felt disjointed from the rest
i think this season was good till the aliens show up.
I felt like these last two episodes were anticlimactic. I don't like the way the events of the finale play out at all and in this episode I thought the narration was annoying. And then season 3 was not my thing. It was all downhill after Loplop. 🥴
This is one of my favorite episodes but to each their own!
Well... là de da
@@zatoichi1 Or you give give your own opinion... Like a man. 😽
The episode was a letdown to me too tbh
I never understood why the x files overtones were necessary in season two. However, it was still an excellent season of Fargo.
My Theory:
Its to add a layer of ludicrousness to the story on retell by the survivors. If it actually happened doesn't matter, nobody believes the story played out like it did. What does it matter that a UFO shows up.
@@user-un9lw5cg2i I guess that's as good a reason as any.
@@user-un9lw5cg2iAnswer: not one bit
Every season is a remix of several different Coen Brothers movies, that’s the whole Fargo tv series brand. The UFO through line is a reference to their film The Man Who Wasn’t There, as well as a nice mirror to season one which had a similar through line of the devil and god and religion versus the primal forces of nature, but in this season the uncaring observer/force at work is a UFO which itself speaks to the paranoia and loss of sense of place in the people of that time
It's part of the style. There is always a supernatural undertone that make the narrative without making it fantasy
Your faces when that UFO made its appearance were just comedy gold!
