I wonder if Viki and Lia can tell that a huge part of the atmosphere and humor of this movie is the Minnesota accents of the characters. And not just their accents, but their stoic, innocent attitudes. That's why Margie at first seems like she might not be too bright or hard working. It's an exaggeration of the real Minnesota character -- seemingly very cheery, always thinking the best of people, but in reality quite down to earth and not at all stupid. And it works both ways too. Jerry too comes off as a pretty ordinary cheerful car salesman. But while he isn't a psychopath like the blonde criminal guy, Jerry is just as evil in his own, ordinary way. This is a brilliant movie!
I always wonder if non-native English speakers notice accents. Like the pigeon lady in Home Alone 2 who wasn't even trying to hide her Irish accent. Or Joan Cusack in Working Girl (although, sadly, I have yet to see a reaction to that).
I get the accent, and also, as a Norwegian, the last names, plus where in the US this happens, make it clear what sort of people this is.
They may not have noticed the accents, but they certainly noticed the mood. At the end they were discussing how it was unusual that the movie was mostly calm (i.e. Minnesota vibes) interspersed with the violence, unlike your usual bloody crime film.
@@leroylowe5921 reactors 'You, Me & The Movies' posted a reaction to Working girl about 2 days ago.
These are not Minnesota accents. I would know. I live there. These are Canadian and some North Dakota accents. Rarely ever do i hear people talk like this. And when j do it is very obvious. Even when i traveled around the country for 5 years going through 40 different states. Most people had no clue i was from Minnesota. From northern Minnesota. NOT the watered fown twin cities type of Minnesotan either.
Also no one says "oh yeaaaah". Or "dont-cha know". All made up!
The Coen Brothers do a great job of creating characters that are "quirky" but still relatable.
Another thing I've noticed in Coen Brothers films is the way they use the landscape. The snow-covered fields in this film, or the desert in Raising Arizona, create a sense of place for the characters and help set the tone of the film. These places can kill you if you're not careful.
This movie takes place in Minnesota. Minnesotans are like American Canadians. They're known to be uncharacteristically nice and naive. That's why the wife didn't run when she saw the masked man looking in her window.
22:58 "Making meatballs with him" lol Lia 😄
Lia is very perceptive doesn't talk too much but always thinking ,check out her very funny impression of her mum noisily doing housework on a Sunday morning ,lol , all the women on Homies are likeable and work well as a group .
@@barblessable I remember that short, it was pretty good
This is exactly why I hate dealing with car salesmen.
Because they kidnapped your wife? I think you're lying.
@@malcolmdrake6137 Because they kidnap their own wives.
The two hired killers/kidnappers were in the Big Lebowski, another Coen brothers movie you both have seen. The small one played Donnie, and the blond one played Uli, the nihilist.
Blood Simple (with the same actress,) Raising Arizona, The Big Lebowski, No Country for Old Men, are some of my Coen Brother favorites.
She's married to one of those brothers.
Barton Fink is underrated.
Despite what the intro states, it’s not actually based on a true story. Other than Fargo is a real place. It’s a great movie. The wood chipper scene has become iconic
The wood chipper part did happen though.
I hate the way they labeled it as a true story but the film is excellent.
The Coen Brothers love to fuck with people…
@@jimglenn6972
Texas Chainsaw Massacre did the same thing. I'm pretty sure that was the Coen Brother's inspiration for doing it.
I love how Coens' movies can range from some of the most brutal movies ever to zany madcap comedies. I don't know if there are any other writer/directors that have such a range. They definitely have a very dark sense of humor that is in pretty much all their films. I personally think they are the most talented movie makers alive today.
The reaction to the woodchipper is hilarious.
If you haven't already, you need to watch Fargo the tv series, Billy Bob Thornton is at his best in the first series.
Also Martin Freeman is great in the show. "I think I got kidnapped, that's the thing." 🤣
@@_Shadoh_ Tell you truth, the show was packed with great actors throughout the season's (only seen 1,2 & 3. Just noticed 4 & 5 on prime).
"I think that...they're making meatballs with him..."
20:13 "Won't the snow melt." Well, the actual Fargo is in North Dakota, and it's average high temperatures during December, January, and February are below freezing, so it's really not the worst plan in the world lol
Plus if he’d survived he would’ve almost immediately had gone back for it.
@@PauloHernandezXD assuming it didn't snow again and cover his tracks.
I love how the money's hiding place was so well marked with a small snow scraper.🙄
The bigger risk would be more snow covering the ice scraper he left as a marker.
Was trying to eat my breakfast during the chipper scene 😮
Margie called for backup before she approached the bad guy at the wood chipper. That's how she got him in the patrol car at the end of the movie. She had help.
Watching you guys react to this was hilarious! 😂😂😂😂
23:59 remember a couple minutes earlier the guy told Margie he would call in for backup. So she has some help in dragging him into the car
very good reaction, you should see "No Country for Old Men", which has a very similar theme, only here we change the snow for the desert area.
One critic who knew the story was not actually true says even the title is a little joke... the Coen brothers seeing how "Far" they could "go"
I don't understand what people get out of making up back stories. 😂😂
@@malcolmdrake6137 Do you mean the Coen Brothers? I guess they found it funny that everyone believed the movie was a true story. I know I did, along with everyone who reacts on here! Lol.
@@seanspalding9296 i heard if people think it's true story, they'll be accepting of the movie more, won't say "No way it could happen that way" 😅
I found it annoying to no end that the Coen brothers put that falsle disclaimer on the film. Almost ruins the movie for me, just sours it right off the bat.
@@mainmac it's funny 😁
It appears you may need to be from America or Canada to appreciate the humor in Fargo.
I wonder if they notice the accent.
23:28 - the reason Margie doesn't shoot immediately is that Police Officers are required to identify themselves and give the criminal a chance to surrender before opening fire
I hope you'll watch the TV show, too ❤
Season 1 has Bilbo Baggins 😅
For all the ugly people in the world its nice to know we also have beautiful people in this world like the two of you. This is a classic cohen brothers film, they make incredible movies like "No Country for Old Men"..."O Brother Where Art Thou"..."The Big Lebowski"..."Bad Santa"..."Raising Arizona"..."Millers Crossing"..."Barton Fink"..."The Ballad of Buster Scruggs"... And many others. I believe you have already watched a couple of these before. ❤❤❤
It's NOT a true story! The Coen Bros just put that in the film.

One of the Coen brothers and the 1990's best movies. The winter concept and scenario was impressive too
*Fargo theme: ordinary people, doing extraordinary things: extraordinary evil versus extraordinay good.*
Fargo, North Dakota. Heavy German / Scandinavian heritage hence "Ja."
The humor in "Fargo" may not work well with people in other countries - like in Eastern Europe.
The pronounced Norwegian-American accent & lifestyle are the prime sources of the comedy.
Canadians, though, should dig it! 😉
And us Norwegians, ja.

Great Movie, Great Cast , Great Performances By Everyone In This Movie & Great Reaction To This Great Classic Movie, Ladies
This is one of the best Coen brothers movies there is.
Conspiring to commit crime with a psycho and an imbecile...what could go wrong? Love the Margie character, no drama she just kept working the case and got it done.
Great reaction! Your screams were epic! Just another day in the U.S.A.!
Coen brothers made this as well as The Big Lebowski and No Country For Old Men.
Great reaction, ladies.
Lia is looking so lovely. I'm an older man, but if I were Bulgarian, I'd definitely be looking for her!
Sorry Kurtfrancis4621, but there's a line of men wrapped around the block waiting their turn to court her! 🥰
Good one, Ladies! So, it's not really based on a true story. The Coen Brother lied. It was sort of a joke. Coen Brothers' movies are always very quirky, filled with odd characters, and often quite dark, but they are always very creative. . My favorites are O Brother Where Art Thou (much more light hearted) and Miller's Crossing (a gangster movie), but they have a lot of good films. Thanks for sharing this one. 🙂
Blood Simple (with the same actress,) Raising Arizona, The Big Lebowski, No Country for Old Men, are some of my favorites.
14:20 what did Viki say?
Lia & Vicky are a good team! Also, don't worry. It's not really a true story.
I absolutely recommend the TV Series
William H. Macy wanted the part of Jerry Lundegaard so badly that he auditioned twice and even (jokingly) threatened to shoot the Coen brothers’ dogs if they refused to give it to him.
Great video.
Hello I frenchman and sorry for my english, you watch Disney zombies pls ( Disney+)
I felt so bad for viki....being a vegetarian and seeing the woodchipper scene. Poor vegetarian girl. 😢😅
k 19 widowmaker
It says its a true story but it isnt. Great cast, phenomenal movie.
Check out the Fargo TV series.
FARGO (1996) is a fictional, dark comedy about crime and bad decisions, directed by Joel Coen, and written by Joel & Ethan Coen. Much of the movie's charm comes from the Minnesota accents and from Margie’s humble, workaday manner as she investigates the case. The cast includes Frances McDormand (as Marge Gunderson), William H. Macy (Jerry Lundergaard), Steve Buscemi (Carl Showalter), Peter Stormare (Gaear Grimsrud), Kristin Rudrud (Jean Lundergaard), John Carroll Lynch (Norm Gunderson), Steve Reevis (Shep Proudfoot), Steve Park (Mike Yanagita), Harve Presnell (Jean’s father).
Love the hairdo Lia
Reaction to Cinderella 1950 pls😢😢😢😢😢
Wood chippers are intended for wood and p3dos
10/10
My favourite Coen brothers movie
The Coen brothers can always be guaranteed to deliver a quirky, diverting, off-key movie experience, and FARGO remains their most successful movie to date; a story of small-town life, dead cold temperatures, and a bloody crime wave. As with the majority - if not all - of their films, it's a densely-plotted, intelligently-scripted story, with a cold grasp on reality throughout but nevertheless some absurd situations to enjoy.
Things begin small and gradually build up to a blood-spattered climax, propelled by tons of originality and irregularity which propels this past most similar genre fare. Frances McDormand deservedly got an Oscar for her excellent performance as the pregnant cop, but William H. Macy is equally good as the nervous car salesman whose life spirals out of control. Steve Buscemi and Peter Stormare are also brilliant as the two psychotic criminals who begin by kidnapping and end in well I'll leave it for you to find out. In parts touching, warm, funny, frightening and shocking, FARGO is an example of the crime thriller at its best.
its not actually a true story
There's dark comedy and then there's the Coen brothers' version of dark comedy (writers/directors of this film). This happens to be one of their finest.
I'd do them both!
They don't detect the funny accent..
This is Not a true story. Directors do stupid things, like that, for some reason; it shouldn't be allowed.
People are reportedly more ready to accept strangeness in true story than in fiction.
in the beginning of the movie - it says its a "true story" ... but its not - it has whats called "directors license" ... that means the story has been changed & NOT 100% true
this is not really a true story. they lied.
Great reaction! The series is much better believe it or not
1996
Ciao Bella Regazza Hi
오
Aww
23:52 She should've went for the head, not the leg
Being a good police officer, she went for the leg, so he could be prosecuted for his crimes.
It finally dawned on me that the psycho quiet killer dude is the same guy that was the Russian cosmonaut in the Armageddon movie...duh.
Peter Stormare also played Lucifer in "Constantine".
Big Lebowski too
First two series is best.💯🪓
Bravo.
Although this film isnt a true story, shit like this happens a lot all over the world, so you could say it is a true story.
