By 2030 extreme poverty will be eradicated by many reports. It may not be a complete correct analogy, but you get the point, India may not seem to be working but if it wasnt working on this issue, then 273 million people wouldnt be removed from poverty in past 10 years. THIS STAT DOES SPEAK VOLUME. Overall since independence, where majority of the country, somewhere arund 70 80% of the population where sleeping hungry and living in extreme poverty, this is a huge step forward. India is the best example on this Planet for many other poverty stricken countries that today isnt the best day but tomorrow will be a better day. Negatives are such, but also fill yourself with positive stuff, you will find actually the country isnt in bad state like you thing, but also not in the very best state. We are constantly improving irrespective of the negatives in various fields. Stay positive and spread positivity, and you will see India will overcome its negatives in the coming years. Indians dreaming of India being a superpower isnt a joke. There are many stats that prove it will be the next super power, so just trying to prove my point i.e STAY POSITIVE.

This is very heartbreaking ! I am from M.P. I had heard of these places but did not know a community was going through this. Really heartbreaking to see they are made to believe that's the only way they can survive. A chance to live a dignified life should be a right and not a privellege. Sadly , we have a long way to go as a country to achieve it.
If temple economy returns no jati would have to survive like this. Take for example the town pf Shirdi, Tirupati or Mathura there even the poorest are looked after because their is no dearth of donations or food. Both are donated by Devotees to the gods who in turns gives it to the most needy ones.

I belong to Nimach and I had witnessed that highway , the houses where stopping vehicle is not considered good. Also last year one girl from this community get into naib tehsildar , a proud and rethinkable moment that social mobility can be taken up . Need is social acceptance

Gandhi supported the varna system which has a lot of merits . He never supported caste. It doesn't matter any way , in article 15 of the Indian constitution caste discrimination is already abolished. We Indians still do it, because our thinking is backward, don't blame somebody else for it, if we really wanted to end we would have ended it by now.

Firstly 'The Quaint' has got it all wrong right from the very beginning, the name of this community is 'Baanchhda', the underaged girls of this community are forced into prostitution by their own families, not necessarily males but in some cases women were found to be involved. The girls belonging to this community go far and wide for their 'work', as far as Mumbai. They visit their families atleast once a year on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, bringing various expensive gifts for their brothers who eagerly await their homecoming.
Girls having plain looks can't get to the greener pastures, they are left behind to strive for their livelihood. These type of girls unfortunately have to stand on the highway looking for probable customers. These girls often end up being treated badly and more often than not get a raw deal from their customers.
There is hardly any caste dimension to the whole affair, most of the customers hail from improvised rural backgrounds. The majority of customers include truck drivers, peasants, menial job workers, farmers, mechanics, etc.
If the caste altogether matters it would be noteworthy that the customers are mainly OBCs, Muslims, and yes Dalits itself. Less than 10% of the total customers per annum hail from the so-called upper caste triology.
Yes, you are right. Everyone is blaming all upper cast Hindus or the whole religion itself,when mostly it was the result of corrupt past generations and now they are pretty much themselves responsible for their current state.I have seen many lower cast government officers who forget their own community after getting rich, they do nothing for their own people and still these people want to blame the whole religion on the basis history of past centuries not even current century, where everything is changing and improving. But, no these media channels have to run agendas by showing fake news for filling their own pockets.

This is our 21st Century India? I really don’t know what to say? Where latest brands of latest Mercedes Benz and iPhones are goes out of stocks overnight. Many movies like Mardani, Simbha, Darbar and so on made on such topics but people just watch it for entertainment and forget. I think we need to openly talk about it, share it in our community and support those organisations who are working for such a meaningful cause.
We have a long way to go as a society. Thank you for continuing to show a mirror to our country on the unspeakable reality that way too many of our citizens face every day. Hope the government, NGOs, and the private sector continue to work hand in hand to uplift their lives.

Poverty and poor have no caste and religion.
There are only two caste in India is Rich and the Poor.
Inspite of 70 years of reservations and help from government still their life didn't improved .
Karthic K poverty can be removed by providing financial support....... caste is a social problem and theres no ending to it until social reform takes place.
Step down from your high caste padestel and accept the reality. Rich and poor are just two categories and they exist everywhere while caste system creates hundreds of them and without an option to escape.

@@kamartaj3010 Marrying in ur own jaati is not following caste system. The current form of Caste system was created by Risley with the help of Max Muller. Untouchability did exist before but every jaati got its due be it in terms of land or tax exemptions. Europeans did the same thing in Rwanda by creating permanent caste identities by forcefully making tribes identify with one caste that ultimately led to civil war. So me & other Brahmins will follow our jaati dharm but that doesn't mean u don't give the requisite respect to the Harijans. Caste exploitation started with the British Zamindari system and it would end if reforms are done in agriculture sector & India industrialises.
