I worked for a bakery. They used a textured paper towel while they gently smoothed to leave a slight impression on the icing. It actually looked great.
I'm watching this over and over to cram study before I try to assemble a 4 layer red velvet cake for my sister's 18th birthday. This video is so great! I feel WAY more confident.
You are a darling and you explain things really well. I love it so far! Thank you for the info, I can tell your channel is about to become a regular for me :)
You’re a cake genius! Thank you for sharing these tips. I just made a two-layer box cake and it looks pretty darn good. Thank you! You are awesome. That is all.
I have cake anxiety after failing miserably at my dad’s birthday cake years ago, but my mom wants me to make one for her this year. Thank u for this 🥲🙏🏻
Thank you so much for this video! Was such a help. I am making my grandmas birthday cake in March and have been buying the things to practise. This has really helped and I am feeling very confident now. I'm ready to begin and can't wait!
Thank you so much for these tips! I am not a 'Newbie" in the kitchen, by far. Have been cooking & baking for 30 years plus..... But was not aware of some of these tips that you've provided! Very helpful! THNX!
Yes all the things you talked about far as having problems with the balance and decorating the sides I had ..OMG !! Thank you so much for the information on the right way to apply the icing.
Thank you so much for making this video! Your directions are easy to follow and have given me the confidence I needed to make my niece’s birthday cake!
Hi there, For this first time last week I was excited to use my cake scrapper (new baker here 🍰🤗) but I kept taking off more frosting then necessary 😩. I think I was definitely holding it up against the cake to hard. Practice makes perfect, thanks for the tips.
I think you just saved me from one of my mistakes. I like baking but have gotten frustrated with a few things. Ready to try this decorating thing again
@BakingButterlyLove Thank you for the really helpful video❤ When we take our cake layers out of the fridge to frost, do we need to let them sit out for 10-15 prior to frosting still wrapped up? Or do we take the plastic wrap off and can frost right away? 🫶
Thank you so much, this really helped but I think I made the final layer of icing a bit too thin because a bunch of cake bits were visible but it still turned out great🎂
Thank you so much for the video...you can't imagine how badly I cry for trying this 😭 it help me alots.... thank you so much.you are a great teacher ❤️
Thank you for taking the time to do this video. Super helpful! I have one question: when baking the cake layers the day before, when do you wrap them to put in the fridge? Do you wait for the cakes to completely cool or slightly warm to keep some moisture?
Thank you for a great tutorial I seem to never get it smooth drives me crazy 😜 I also want to ask how can I get this Swiss meringue buttercream white? Would it work if I used half shortening? Thanks in advance
Thank you for this awesome tutorial it was very informative and just what I needed I really have the confidence now to make some beautiful cakes!!😌 Thank you!!🎉🎊🥳🎉🎉🎊💕💞🌷☺️
Hi! I'm wondering if you could comment about freezing cakes before using vs just refrigerating- i hear that esp in hot climates, frosting a thawing cake is easier
Thanks for this great video. I have a question. My family don’t like butter cream. Can I use whipped cream that I sometimes use for cupcake or whipping cream with cream cheese? I whip the 33%cream and beat it with cream cheese and icing sugar and forms well. If I can use that instead of butter cream are all the steps exactly same as this video? Thanks
Hello.. i have to bake a 4 layer 10inch cake. Is it necessary to insert dowels to keep the cake straight up?. The layers will be about the height of your cake layers
I’m going to be making my sons birthday cake. I wanted the inside to be carrot cake and vanilla . My question is would I still use buttercream for the outside and does it taste well together ? Ty in advance for the answer. I have no baking experience 😅
I have made cakes for decades with no issues with the frosting. BUT, just recently I tried a checked board cake ( made a trial then the actual). Stacking was ok. After frosting and decorating the icing/decorating slide off the cake pulling the cake off with it! I was horrified! Did this with both cakes. What a mess. Any idea what I am doing wrong? I am soon making a baby carriage cake and do not want a repeat. Help, please. PS I will never do a checkerboard or layers again.
it’s best to wrap the cakes when they are about 10 minutes out of the oven. so yes wrap them when they are warm because the plastic wrap will lock in than moisture and keep the cake nice and moist. and then chill in the fridge for an hour. happy caking!

Great tutorial!!
I’m here to learn before may 14th(mothers day cake) 😂
Do you wrap the cake while it’s still hot? Or cool on counter first?
Hello.. i have to bake a 4 layer 10inch cake. Is it necessary to insert dowels to keep the cake straight up?. The layers will be about the height of your cake layers
Do you wrap the cake immediately after flipping them out of the pan
I don’t know how to deal with the temperate in my kitchen in winter it seems like it melts while I decorate… 😢 please any tips?
I’m going to be making my sons birthday cake. I wanted the inside to be carrot cake and vanilla . My question is would I still use buttercream for the outside and does it taste well together ? Ty in advance for the answer. I have no baking experience 😅
Would this work with cream cheese frosting?
What size cake pans are you using? Please help!!
Thanks God blesd
questions while watching-
what can I use other than plastic wrap to cool them, I don't have any handy
Essa hora boa
When the cake is chilling, the rest of the composition (buttercream) is at room temperature?
I have made cakes for decades with no issues with the frosting. BUT, just recently I tried a checked board cake ( made a trial then the actual). Stacking was ok. After frosting and decorating the icing/decorating slide off the cake pulling the cake off with it! I was horrified! Did this with both cakes. What a mess. Any idea what I am doing wrong? Do you have a link for the tools you use?
Can I have your cake recipe they look so light and fluffy
Does this go hard in the fridge
Tyy
What’s the recipe for your butter cream
Where did you get the metal spinner?
Can you wrap while they are still warm? or is it best to wrap when completely cool?
I think when it completely cool because if it’s warm it’s gonna kinda melt the plastic wrap, it’s just better to do it cool. 🌸
it’s best to wrap the cakes when they are about 10 minutes out of the oven. so yes wrap them when they are warm because the plastic wrap will lock in than moisture and keep the cake nice and moist. and then chill in the fridge for an hour. happy caking!
Why size cake pans do you use for this size cake?
Looks like 6 inch
What inches in pan do you use for the cakes?
