A few bars of this tune is enough to put a spike of fear into the heart of even the most ardent jackboot. They know damn well what it means, but a reminder now and then doesn't hurt... much...
I have this version on a very old MP3 player. I swung by my favorite place to buy "Freedom Seeds" earlier this week and as I pulled into the parking lot this song started playing :)
"It is we who built these palaces and cities, here in Spain and America and everywhere. We, the workers. We can build others to take their place. And better ones. We are not in the least afraid of ruins. We are going to inherit the earth; there is not the slightest doubt about that. The bourgeoisie might blast and ruin its own world before it leaves the stage of history. We carry a new world here, in our hearts. That world is growing in this minute." ~Buenaventura Durruti, Spanish Anarchist, Died 1936 fighting the fascists
I am part Spanish, and I had not heard this quote before. Thanks. I knew an elderly man who had gone to Spain to fight against Franco in the American Abraham Lincoln Brigade. He used a cane afterwards, but was glad he had gone.

I had no idea Leslie Fish (I believe that's the voice) had her own rendition of Bella Ciao! Thus was a pleasant surprise
First song of hers I heard was Chickasaw Mountain, "she did a tribute to Phil Ochs? Well now I have to listen to her." So glad I did.
