@@DavidPedratscher communism among partisans was by no means a "very small minority" communism in Italy at this time was very strong, and for a couple of decades had been mainstream.
Actually, the verse 'che mi sento di morir' can be interpreted in two ways: the first one is as 'because I feel death approaching', as it was translated here; but the second one is 'because I feel ready to die (for the partisans' cause)'. The wording of the verse and the use of the preposition 'di' point more toward the second meaning actually, but Italian allows for a lot of linguistic freedom in verses/poetry, so both options are on the table.
The correct translation would be "Because I feel like (dying / I am about to die)" rather than "feeling death approaching". But you are correct on the double interpretation. It hints at both the dramatism of grief ("I feel like I'm about to die (of indignation) from having my homeland taken away from me"), and as a commitment to the anti-fascist cause ("Today I feel like I could die for my homeland/ideals") Italians use these dramatic expressions very often, like "I felt death creeping up behind my back" when you feel shivers (as my nonno used to say), or "you're going to kill me from embarassment/disgust/etc", but since "di" is used, that is correct, it also indicates willingness towards sacrifice.

This song needs to come to the US, in these sorry times. Fascism has returned in a new suit. It really never left. Has been festering in the hearts of the powerful for two generations, and now, with a century of imperial dictatorship of the rich and the heads of state, it has found its hold once more. Siblings. Vote, yes. But fight in other ways. Defend your siblings from the devices of fascism

No, that’s not a valid reason. America is still a constitutional democratic republic and always will be, so long it is still America. Americans from both the side and left side of the spectrum came to fight for the country in WW2 and take down fascism.
We see this in a lot of countries that fall into right-wing populism, like Argentina, Italy, or Hungary. Let's use the Yellow Vest Protests in France as an example. That was a left-wing social movement equivalent to Occupy Wall Street in the United States. When you have centrists like Trudeau, Macron, and Obama that prevent left-wingers from enacting change, _that_ momentum shifts to the right. Case in point: The Bernie-to-Trump pipeline. Jimmy Dore, Ana Kasparian, Glenn Greenwald, Matt Taibbi, the Red Scare girls, Tulsi Gabbard, Joe Rogan, RFK Jr. and Theo Von. This is *literally* what happened in the 1930s in Germany, Spain, and Italy, although I don't want to be melodramatic and suggest Trump will carry out the same actions.
The last verse is a recent addition, never lissened before. Actually, is false that "the CLN used it" and is also false that "It was first written in the late 1800s and sung by striking farmers in Northern Italy", there is no sign, nobody sung "Bella Ciao" before the '60s.

This song needs to come to the US, in these sorry times.
Fascism has returned in a new suit. It really never left. Has been festering in the hearts of the powerful for two generations, and now, with a century of imperial dictatorship of the rich and the heads of state, it has found its hold once more.

But fight in other ways.

Why is that? I'm pro Trump and have loved this song my entire life.
We know why we're here
No, that’s not a valid reason. America is still a constitutional democratic republic and always will be, so long it is still America. Americans from both the side and left side of the spectrum came to fight for the country in WW2 and take down fascism.
Project 2025 brought me here.
@@Us3r_2005I'm not a US American, but I wish you the best. I hope your country *stays* a democracy throughout it all.
Because the democrat regime is over!!!
Amazing version!
