    Lyrics:
For all the ills that plague mankind, there is a certain cure
For neighbors rude and rowdy and for prigs sublime and pure,
For holier-than-thous and nasty children by the store,
There is one man who shows the way, salvation is his store.
    Chorus:
So let us go a-Ramboing among the live grenades,
Yes, let us go a-Ramboing, all lively youths and maids.
With an Uzi in the left hand and machete in the right,
O let us go a-Ramboing out on the town tonight!
Your boss is full of fertilizer, but he's still the boss,
You therefore labor mightily to his gain and your loss.
    He hassles and torments you, nags and plagues you day and night;
Take heart, O pilgrim, there is hope, redemption is in sight.
    (Chorus)
And as for politicians, well, need anymore be said?
Their fingers are all in the till, their skulls are made of lead.
You'll never vote the bastards out, for guess who runs the game,
And no use yelling for the law, the cops are just the same.
    (Chorus)
Your neighbor mows his lawn at 3 a.m. on Sunday morn
And thanks to him you often wish that you were never born,
Especially when, after hours and one too many brews,
He alternates Ms. Dolly P. with polka tunes and blues.
    (Chorus)
Your neighbor's children play their wars at most unholy hours
And recreate Guadalcanal among your shrubs and flowers.
They decorate your trees with tissue normally found on rolls
And excavate your driveway like so many little moles.
    (Chorus)
    Your other neighbor has been saved and wants to save you too;
He'll gladly tell you endlessly exactly what to do.
Just put your soul into his hands, you'll go and sin no more,
Don't drink or smoke or anything, but be (like him) a bore.
    (Chorus)
Sweet polite persuasion here will bring you no relief,
For those who yield to reason aren't the kind that cause you grief.
So when you've had it up to here, and fear you'll grow unhinged,
It's no more Mr. Nice Guy, let's go out and get revenge.
    (Chorus)
Yes, there is a solution to the grafter, bore, and prude,
The idiot who bosses you, the neighbor brute and rude.
Just take up arms against the sea of troubles, toil, and fuss,
What's good enough for the new John Wayne is good enough for us!
    (Chorus)

I mean, I personally think the sounds of kids playing outside is a good thing (even if I find the screaming annoying) as it shows that the streets are (relatively) safe.

This was the first Leslie Fish song I remember hearing, back in - I think - 2013, sent to me by a friend of mine at the time over Skype. I actually found a tape my family had of Minus Ten and Counting years later that I may have heard when I was much younger, but this was the song to get me into Fish's music, and - through that - Filk.

Trying to ID the tenor. Kristoph Klover? We recorded this in Terry Lee's studio, one amazing sleepless week in 1987.

Do you know anything about the song “Route 40” - there’s a live version on Leslie’s latest album release, and it seems to be set in the same universe as at least some of ‘Firestorm’ (it’s about a post-apocalyptic convoy, and they use some of the same slang as the singer in ‘The Discards’) - but I can’t find any versions of it other than that live recording so I’ve got no idea what cassette it’s originally from?

I know a few things about “Route 40,” yes. First, it was reportedly inspired by the classic board game Car Wars. I'm not sure how much of a shared universe Firestorm was supposed to have, but to the extent that you can imagine one, “Route 40” would fit in very well.
Second, filk songs, unlike popular songs, are usually written for live performance, with inclusion on an album something of an afterthought. So it's not always meaningful to ask what cassette (or CD) a song is “originally from”-the song could have been sung at cons for a decade before it was ever recorded commercially. But I can tell you that the only other recording of “Route 40” that I know of is on Bayfilk 4 & 5: Limelight.

@@SongsfromtheStars Oh that's all really interesting! I know the aim of Firestorm was to be more of a series of "fables" about how to survive an apocalypse, but I do think some of them are or at least could be set in the same post-apocalyptic world :))
I hadn't really thought of filk like that, but it makes a lot of sense - now I'm wondering how many songs I would love have never been recorded at all.
Thanks for answering my question! :))
