Mike's budget challenges are my favorite content, so I'm glad to see him inspiring other people to take the challenges on and see how creative they can get with the restraints. I hope you do a few more in the future, the ones I've already watched were great!
I agree this is more relatable but i think the foraging is what makes shrimps videos unique as I'm yet to see any other youtuber forage in their videos
I'm always blown away by how much you can buy for just £1 in th UK. Sure, I know from watching Shrimp's challenges that the cost of other things, such as housing, can be very high, which obviously balances things out in the end, but the thought of me being able to buy all that for between 13 and 14 swedish kronor is just crazy. I'm fully aware it's a flawed comparison, but I have the same reaction of total amazement every time I see this happen. 😄
It's always surprising to see what's "affordable" and what's "expensive" in other countries! I was surprised when I found out how expensive food could be in the US, and then that tax gets added on at the END of the shop! Housing here is extremely expensive though, you're right, it balances out in the end
When I moved to Sweden our grocery bills doubled. I follow Portionen under tian but all staples here (bread, milk, eggs, rice, fresh vegetables etc) are more than double the UK prices. In a way though it makes me feel a bit happier that farmers and food producers in Sweden actually get paid a fair price for things such as milk and eggs unlike in the UK where supermarkets squeeze their margins aggressively.
I was very impressed by your creativity here. You didn't just have the food the way it came but instead thought of very clever ways to turn what you had into something else which I found very interesting to watch. Thanks for the effort that you put into doing this. Am sure the guy from Atomic Shrimp would be proud! :)
Thanks so much! I do think using the spaghetti hoops as they were was a bit boring to start with but as the day progressed and the coffee kicked in I was able to think outside of the box a bit more. Looking forward to trying a similar challenge soon :)
Can relate to the coffee/tea kicking in, both help to get the brain working and the ideas flowing! ☕ Would love to see another one of these, even one for a whole week would be great too if you would consider that! Thanks :)
I must say, I was a little worried upon seeing all the ready-made food but what an inventive/creative way of using the ingredients! The lighting and framing of the food/cooking shots are also quality👌🏾
Haha understandable, I was definitely a bit uncreative at breakfast but I think that got better through the day!! Glad you liked the shots, filming cooking is much harder than Babish makes it look
One challenge that might fun to try that Atomic Shrimp did is the chance cube challenge. Then you aren’t constrained with the financial and can focus on creativity. Good luck Junior shrimp😊
Fantastic video, I was disappointed that atomic shrimp hasn't done any more limited budget videos ( hint hints if he's reading), really please to find another uk channel !!! Maybe u could do a challenge together. Looking forward to seeing more videos Good luck on your channel will be watching you and atomic :)))))))
I am making the rice and curry for my lunch and dinner. I am just using the ingredients I have in my fridge and cupboards. Surprisingly had some pretty good ingredients!
Very good video my friends hope too see others of this in the future I very like the Atomic Shrimp vibes and no like other youtuber who only talk nosense keep up❤💪
This would be hugely difficult in America, partly because food is more expensive(not considerably but enough) than the Uk although I suspect with Brexit + Inflation + the weaker pound maybe the Uk is closer to the Us these days, but also there are literally so few non bulk options for people to buy. Ie. In most grocery stores, outside of bodega-type places in the bigger cities.
You're absolutely right! I saw a video recently showing how much more American groceries are than in the UK. But yep, Brexit, war, and everything driving inflation these days has made a challenge like this far more difficult than it would have been just two years ago, and wages haven't caught up to that yet.
so glad you mentioned Atomic Shrimp ! he is one of my fave youtubers ! You got a like and subscribe for it :D but you do you and that also will be fine. Thanks Harry
You should do a weekly and monthly meal prep guide tried to tap into the gym audience. Also, maybe do a challenge to do with universal credit. Really enjoy your content keep it up
@@harrywalbyoff2 well if you wanna go back that’s a perfect opportunity, but maybe content around high protein Mills would be awesome. I’ve really lost ideas on what to do with canned tune🤣
While not a veggie I do cook quite a lot of veggie foods, so I'd definitely be up for doing a veg or vegan version of this challenge! Thanks for the suggestion :) The only thing I'd be confident foraging at the moment is stinging nettles so maybe I'll try that in spring
Pretty good going and inventive use of your ingredients! Only in US, UK and other large countries could you get all that for a quid. No chance of that where I live (Netherlands), we get ripped off majorly. This is why I roll me eyes when people complain about cost of living in UK because if you put your mind to it you can eat very cheaply (and rents and energy are high everywhere, not just in UK!).
I think you're right and I'll definitely give that a go soon, first I'm going to give £2 per person for 2 days, I think that would also be easier than this and should be out in a couple of weeks!
Good work. doing it daily is hard I think because you cant save any over and the main ingredient eg the pasty is a one day protein. More of this sort of thing please sir!
It's a great way to use up ingredients, I find. And I suppose it could depend on the type of potato but I have seen that US groceries can cost a lot more than here
@@harrywalbyoff2 yes its harder to find most vegetables by the individual price, so I would have to check and see if my nearby Mexican style grocer is a little more forgiving than Aldi
Well done on the challenge. But I have to say the 'beef' in the pasty looked very grey, so grey I wondered if it had gone off. Anyway you survived to post the video so that's a relief. Another thing, I had to slow down the speed as you speak very fast and your voice is quite muffled. Otherwise a great start to your new career as a RUclipsr More please.
Thanks for the comment! I have to say the beef wasn't great but it kept me going for the day and didn't make me ill so not to worry!! And thanks for the audio feedback, it's definitely something for me to work on, I'm surprised how many great responses I've gotten on this video :)
People don't buy 1 days worth of shopping, should really be weekly or fortnightly budget (people get benefits 2x a month after all) and most wages are paid monthly. I appreciate this makes videos longer and more challenging to do but it's more realistic in the real world, £1 a day x7 etc minimum.
It's true that this isn't realistic, but it was never meant to be, it's just a problem solving exercise. Like you say, doing it this way is just a way to make it more challenging. I wouldn't want anyone to think I'm suggesting that people live like this. Anyway, thank you for watching and leaving a comment :)
@@harrywalbyoff2 It's not that, it's more to do with the fact you would buy at least 1 weeks worth of dinner at a time, people on benefits get 2 weeks worth of payments at a time and most employees paid once a month. Just makes it artificially more difficult splitting it into 1 day = £1 etc I think, unless you are asking for money on the streets it's not how most people on a budget shop.
Thank you! I'd like to give that a go eventually, but I'd have to find the time to plan and do that, maybe somewhere around the three day mark first haha
Definitely too many carbs, but that's the thing with this kind of challenge, you have to make a lot of sacrifices! £3 for 3 days for example would make it easier to introduce variety for sure, so might try something like that soon :) thanks for the comment!

Me too. Atomic shrimp is one of my favorite channels. :)
I'll definitely do some more, they're great fun! Thank you
More relatable than Atomic Shrimps version as this doesnt have things like foraging which most people dont have the required knowledge for. Good job
Thanks Harry! I do wish I could try some foraging but I'd just end up making myself ill
I like Atomic Shrimp. I think this young man did a fine job though
I agree this is more relatable but i think the foraging is what makes shrimps videos unique as I'm yet to see any other youtuber forage in their videos
pls do more budget challenges! would never get sick of them
I'll get another one done soon hopefully, thanks :)
I second that !!!!!!
I was looking for something like Shrimp's videos and I found on inspired by Shrimp's videos. Glorious! Thank you for sharing this adventure!
Interesting exercise! I'm certain Atomic Shrimp would approve.
I hope so! Thanks for saying this :)

Really enjoy these videos - keep up the great work. Videography works well, would recommend a mic if possible to help with the muffled audio.
Thanks :) I've invested in a better microphone since this video but still learning how to get the best sound out of it, just takes time!
how about doing just a veggie day for us veggies. Loved this, have watched Atomic Shrimp but don't have anywhere to foraged

is farmer's market not an option in UK? you can get good raw produce individually even
I used to shop at a market in university, they even gave student discounts! But they're often a bit on the expensive side for a challenge like this
