    A budget hint for the future: bags of dried lentils and beans work out far cheaper than the tinned varieties. With tins, half the weight is the liquid they're packed in. Buying dry lentils and beans does meaning planning ahead, as you will need to presoak them unless you have a pressure cooker.

    • @Ekdog

      I agree. We eat some kind of beans almost daily and save loads of money. One point: no need to soak lentils.

    • @gillallmond9145
      @gillallmond9145 2 месяца назад

      Depends. A can of kidney beans is currently 30p in Lidl. One kg of dried beans makes about 10 cans worth, drained weight. So if your dried beans are 2.65 a kg, factoring in the gas to cook them makes it not worth it. You'd be better buying the tinned beans and saving your time. Depends totally on the price of tinned and dried beans in your area.

    • @StakyAll
      @StakyAll Месяц назад

      Agree but by the time you cook them the price of gas and electric probably makes it more expensive

      Did you see him make anything from scratch? Everything was tins and jars, he could get untold vitamins from cabbage, baby spinach and lots of other vegetables... Stir-fry cabbage, onion, chips and rosemary herb is 80pence meal that's got more vitamins in it than those Bananas at 69p, and cost just little more than a tin of soup and cheap bread... He should try baking his own bread, take a couple of hours most of which is proving, you can read a book with a cup of tea and biscuits while it does so. £1.00 of 1.5kg strong bread flour will get you about 4-5 small loaves of bread or 3 large ones that cost 33p each small loaf, plus yer electricity so about 50p but the taste is just delicious.... Seriously if he carried on with that diet for a few months he'd be spotty, a fat gut from all those carbs, and his nervous system won't stand up to winter and viruses, he'll be down the doctor's and he'll walk away from there with pills and that's where it starts.

    Thanks for this video. I am going t have to live like this ( and already have been to some extent ) for the forseable future due to the rising costs of living and especially the hikes in fuel prices. I see lots of comments from Americans about how cheap food is here but remember petrol (gas) ia much more expensive here in the UK and the average electrcity and gas bills are rising really fast and by huge amounts. We are also very heavily taxed and wages are comparitively low. I am on a minimum wage of £9.50 per hour and that does not go a far at all. I never eat out, never buy take away - not even drinks, I can't afford biscuits, chocolate, fizzy drinks, meat, and eat low budget food all the time. Some days I do not eat anything as I have no money to buy any food. This is not a pity party, I am just telling it like it is.

    So affordable!! Can't get over how much cheaper things are in the UK!!
    This would all add up to close to $30 Australian, even taking into account the conversion rate we're still paying sooo much more for our groceries!! If I took this same shopping list to my local Aldi I would have to pick and choose and would need to leave out probably half of the items you bought in order to keep within what this spend would convert to, which is about $17.50 Australian dollars, so you are lucky to be able to buy so many things at such a low cost!
    Having said that though I really appreciated that this was a vegan challenge/meal plan being vegan myself and also definitely agree that eating this way does help to keep the costs down.
    I'd love to see another one of these kinds of videos if you were up to doing another challenge again sometime so encourage you to consider this, it was really helpful and inspiring! Thanks

    Just because it's possible, nobody, working, should be forced to live off 10 pounds per week.
    Great video.👍

    This video totally outlined that my country is price gouging. Even turning the pounds to dollars and converting currencys.
    (what did you do to make canned tomatoes on bread taste good)?
    Beans on toast is always a budget classic. No matter what it's always special

      Absolutely! I moved from the UK to Eastern Europe and I expected the food to be cheaper here: not at all! Food in the UK is the cheapest anywhere I've ever known and the quality is pretty good too (apart from the fruit that has to be imported from far away, doesn't taste so great generally).

    So I typed it in my supermarket app and found out that in Germany this shop would cost 25 euro with the inflation and stuff its just ridiculous expensive here now. It's 1,5 times as much as you payd but euro pound course is today 1,18€ to 1pound

    Love your videos! I'm just wondering what kind of caloric intake is average per day on the menu plan for that particular week. Our USDA recommends a 1600-3000 calories per day, based on gender /metabolism.

    Great meal plan ! Not easy to do at all ! I would of made those tinned tomatoes into a basic tomorrow purée soup so could have that with bread then use other half
    For pasta sauce ! I love these types challenges as makes you think outside the box !

    Buy some self raising flour next go to make scones and pancakes or quick bread like banana bread or coffee cake, it's cheap and would give you a lot of options😊

    A great video, with some excellent choices. You even had 13p left over! I envy you being able to shop in an Aldi, as where I live we aren't allowed to have ALDI or LIDL.

      @@plantbasedwell-being3309 I live on an island. The local government are greedy incompetent idiots who strictly control who is allowed to operate here. We have three supermarket chains: Waitrose, Co-op and Morrisons, which is run by a very greedy company here that has friends in government. It's this reason why we'll never be allowed to have a LIDL or an ALDI, even though a lot of the poorer people here would be helped out immensely by it.

    White bread, pasta, noodles, all turns into the same stuff in the body, sugar. But it’s fine bc you’re eating w fat and/protein and you’re not overweight and likely don’t have diabetes. Good stuff, keep up the great work! 👍

    Cries in American with your food prices. I know the full cost of living evens out mostly overall, but man I miss how little I could get by on in the UK food wise! Spending about $700/month(£570) buying the bare bones now. When I long for my British faves, its 4-5x as much. And especially bread, it is so sweet here and 10-12x as much for basically a small sugar loaf. I use these plans as a basic budgeting tool though, minus what costs an arm and a leg in the states.

    Starting from scratch is a problem. I think you did very well.
    For me: Oatmeal and fruit. Yogurt and fruit. Eggs. English Muffins with spread. Rice, Pasta. Salad. Soup. Done.
    Save a good bit by making your own soups. Even using tinned beans, corn, plus pasta and frozen vegetables will make an amazing minestrone soup. Or add to a cheap tinned soup, just chopped meat or frozen vegetable, whichever you like.
