    I've got a Belle Epoch and a Dirty Little Secret on order, purely because of Howard and his demos. Love his info, playing and narrative. A wealth of knowledge and tone!

    I've had my DLS for over a year and I felt underwhelmed; always tweaking my knobs looking for the right tone I could never find (it's not bad, just wasn't what I was looking for). I secretly wished I had bought someone elses' brand. But once I saw the Super Bass knob setting, with an 18 volt, I was blown away. No doubts anymore.

      I find it way to loud at 18 volts, I started running it at 12v. I believe it’s a great middle ground

    After I got my DLS, I said "well my quest for dirt pedals is over". I've picked up a few more since then, because, well GAS, but none of them have kicked the DLS off my board. Love this thing- thanks Howard

    I really appreciate the honest straightforward explanations of the pedal's design (I think you do a good job on all your videos). Particularly how you stayed "honest" to the Plexi design and didn't try to adjust the knobs. The graphs were extremely instructional. It saved me a lot of time knob-twisting and allowed me to get to "playing." You deserve a lot of credit for the extra functionality built inside the pedal (impressive), but would agree with some of the other comments that since the box enclosure uses screws and many of us "glue" our pedals to boards, having easier access to those features would be nice. If you want to stay true to the Plexi face, then access to these functions at the "top" of the pedal might be a good compromise. Looking forward to buying the Belle Epoch Deluxe to go with my DLS.

    Had this on my board for about 6 months now, and only just got round to trying Super-Bass mode, and it really does it for me. I'm running it into a Hughes & Kettner Grandmeister, which is quite a bright amp, and in Super-Lead mode, I sometimes found it a bit too aggressive and bright at gigging volume for my tastes - although I'll still say it's the best sounding amp-in-a-box pedal I've ever had. But now it's in Super-Bass, it is absolutely aural ecstasy in my opinion. And never mind a Fuzz Face, my 90's reissue Colorsound Tonebender sounds unbelievable in front of it, either with a Les Paul or Strat.

      You are correct. If I could offer one suggestion. Do not do what I did. DO NOT MAKE ANY INTERNAL adjustments while the pedal is plugged in. I fried my Bellepoch to the point it is stuck in the overdrive setting for good. I wil keep it for harsh stuff, as the delay aspect is still perfect.

    I was just watching a rig rundown of Daniel Lanois and this came on randomly. Very cool stuff I don't wanna create more work for you guys as I'm sure you are really busy but this would be rad to see on the RAH as well... Haha I love my RAH it's always on and now I'm curious what the graph would be like. Of course you don't have to do it but I love these videos!

    • @jumpboy29

      IcyBluesOfDeath I second that on the RAH, love mine to. I know it's a hiwatt-marshall blend but a demo comparing the two or how Howard prefers to use it or anything would be interesting. Those first demos of the RAh are just classic.

      WharfRat hey I know this is a bit late but how was the rah in terms of versatility I wanna run it with a marshall

    • @samapple490
      @samapple490 3 года назад

      Richard Mills I can answer that (sorry for being so late I guess that’s a trend on this video) the RAH is a really good pedal when you find that zeppelin tone everyone knows.....but
      After you’ve finished playing whole lotta love and whatnot the problems become evident as there is very little diversity you can actually get with the pedal which is probably why the DLS is your best option. By no means is the RAH bad but you would be able to mimic the RAH and get much more versatility with the DLS.

    ... are any future factory mods planned to add Variac-type output saturation and or a "jumped channel" simulation mode perhaps with a trim pot to balance the volume of the two "channels"? Also the presence trim pot being under the hood is less inconvenient read: less aggravating than having the SL/SB switch permanently inside... could placing a hole or slot on the enclosure to make that switch more accessible from the outside (with a flat head screwdriver?) be too much to ask for? :)

    I use SB mode usually. Run a strat in to fender blues jr. Do you recommend setting a flat eq on the amp and using the pedal controls? Or a mix of both?

    • @CatalinbreadMechanismsofMusic
      @CatalinbreadMechanismsofMusic  9 лет назад +4

      Short answer: mix of both. Set your amp to a good, balanced clean sound on its own. Then dial in your DLS to match that.

    You have a lot of knowledge about getting great sound. I have a question that I'm sure is universal for many home studio guitarists. How do you get such a robust sound using mics when I can only get thin and compressed results. I would like to capture the sound of my amp that I'm hearing in my studio, but what comes thru my head phones is very disappointing, and not at all the full robust sound of my amp.

    • @eddievhfan1984
      @eddievhfan1984 8 лет назад

      +rbauer1632 How do you usually mic? Distant or close? On-axis or off? Etcetera?

    • @rbauer1632
      @rbauer1632 8 лет назад

      +Kyle Tekaucic I usually mic up close near the grill cloth. I have experimented with various placements around the speaker cone, as well as 8" to two feet away. When playing with a backing track I can mix it to sound good. However, if I were to try to make a sound clip with just my guitar and amp alone it sounds nothing (going thru my mixer and out my headphones) like what he is achieving here. This video sounds like what I hear in my studio room in person coming from my amp. But not what comes out of my mixer with a shure sm57. I have read similar complaints about this disappointing result. It has nothing to do with the equipment. I'm going to get a good quality condenser mic as a 2nd microphone and see if that does the trick. I've gotten a reply from another youtuber who does a lot of these sound clips that this could achieve my goal.

    • @eddievhfan1984
      @eddievhfan1984 8 лет назад

      Yeah, close miking works best when multitracking for more control over ambience, but if you're putting the guitar at the forefront, distant miking (or close + distant) would probs work best.

    Well, it's 2021. I'm thinking, maybe take a page out of JHS's and Wampler's books: make a Deluxe version with a simple boost and name it Dirty Little Secrets Deluxe (Wampler style) or another of your pedals that is great to boost with it and give it another name (JHS style). Anyhow, what I also mean with taking something out of JHS boost: why not also make a jack for switching between Super Lead and Super Bass in that? Just spouting ideas...

      ProgressiveRock73 I had a Wiio a couple years ago, it sounded and looked great. I probably had it 3 months before I figured out it gets alot more aggressive when cranking the master volume up. It went from a good scooped rhythm drive.... to a lead beast really quick and LOUD. I not sure if a real hiwatt does that but that was my experience. I favor the Rah now since it can be very similar and clearer sounding, imo. Good luck with yours!
