- Zumanjaro: Drop of Doom, the tallest drop tower ride in the world, will be opening soon at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, New Jersey. Standing 415 feet (126 meters) tall and reaching a top speed of 90 mph (140 km/h), the ride is attached to Kingda Ka, the world's tallest roller coaster.

Rode it this summer. Highly recommend even if you don't like drop rides. You think its done getting faster and it just keeps accelerating until the last second. Personal favorite ride there next to Nitro.

This is the first ride video where I completely identified with the people riding, and I was very happy to see they all survived without pissing their pants or crying. Seriously. Bless you guys. I can handle some thrills but DAYUM.
They really should sync the towers with Kingda Ka!
In the original reveal video, it was synced. I think thats the plan. To have Ka & Zumanjaro drop at the same time.
That's not the plan that would delay the lines for each to run at same time
Magic Mountain does that with Superman: Escape From Krypton and Lex Luthor: Drop of Doom.

I went on yesterday and I give it a 10! It was sooooooooooo much fun!!! When you stop at the top, your heart is pounding so hard. I loved it can"t wait to go on it again next year!
This looks TERRIFYING!! Drop rides are so scary! I have to really force myself to go on them but I don't think I could ride this one..

I don't think they can do it like that. It would make the structure to top heavy. All the extra weight from the 3 gondolas and the coaster trains. I'm just guessing that you'll probably never see both rides at the top at the same time.

I was told they did it on opening day for the tower. It would add some adrenaline and nerves for the riders.
It may have just been for show. A promotional video to advertise the ride and park. It would be nice if they could do it like that all the time.
They are physically able to, the tower can handle it. However, New Jersey won't even allow them to run at the same time. they have to essentially "take turns" with 2-3 Ka trains launching while Zumanjaro is loading, then none can launch while Zumanjaro's gondolas are off the ground.

When I went on Zumanjaro a couple weeks ago, it was such a thrilling and unimaginable experience. I can't even describe the feeling in your stomach as you shoot downward. I definitely recommend it for someone with a daring side and this ride gives you a great story to tell! :)

Just looking at this ride makes me just wanna go back.
In all honesty I really think this ride isn't going to be at the park for long. 4 out of the five times I walked to the ride to get on it, it was closed. I saw it drop from Bizarro, and we got right off and ran to the entrance, and it was closed. The frequent downtime of this ride will cause it to lose tons of crowds. Another thing I really don't like is that how Zumanjaro and Kingda Ka have to take turns with operations, which made the lines longer than it should've been. Keep in mind, the day had a 50 percent chance of thunderstorms, so there were not many people that day. (In fact every ride was a walk on except for Kingda Ka.) All I have to say now is that Six Flags could've stuck with the world record drop ride idea, however have it as a free standing tower. (Hell, have three separate free standing drop towers for less than the price of Zumanjaro)

It’s pretty similar to the power tower at cedar point. The power tower is just 15 feet shorter than this one.
Cedar point also has that other ride that’s going around the drop of doom, but they call it top fuel dragster. Not sure what they call it at six flags.

Intentionally doing so would decrease capacity. As it is, the state won't even let them run at the same time. Zumanjaro can't start when there's a Ka train launching or on the tower and Ka can only launch when Zumanjaro's gondolas are on the ground.

Kingda Ka also shakes a lot, so I don't know how they would be able to safely run both at the same time.
jingo587 Shaking isn't dangerous, tall structures are always designed to sway. Besides, they added lots of extra supports so that it wouldn't sway too much in simultaneous operation. They did run them together for the commercial shoot.

did anyone see kingda ka's track wobble when the train was about to enter the camel hump hill?
Yes, but it was after the train passed. The train comes down the top hat at such high speed it produces enough force to shake the track as it goes by. A coaster track often shakes, but the riders don't notice it because the train is long gone when the shaking happens.
It's supposed to shake, all major coaster tracks shake a little bit, you have to have flexibility especially with the speed and force of Kingda Ka, and also, the earth spins and earthquakes exist and stuff.
If it does not shake, it will break.
Was this filmed from a helicopter? There was a chopper at six flags great adventure on June 29th

I rode zumanjaro drop of doom the same day i rode kingda ka, and trust me it was the best day ive ever had in my life.
I honestly think Lex Luthor: Drop of Doom is kinda better than Zumanjaro: Drop of Doom because on Lex Luthor, riders have an incredible panoramic view of the whole park, while Zumanjaro, riders can only see the park if they look infront of them. Also Lex Luthor is more themed than Zumanjaro. Sure, Zumanjaro is 15 ft taller than Lex Luthor, but I think Lex Luthor gives the better ride experience.
from the front you could see the whole roller coaster part of the amusement park.you could see all of the rides from there
you could even see Philadelphia or New York from from there.

1. On lex luthor, you can only see half of the park, on zumanjaro you can see the whole park.
2. Zumanjaro is going along with kingda ka's and the safari's theme so the theming will probably be just as good as lex luthor. So this is better than lex luthor.

For me, the worst part of a drop tower ride is the ascent. At Six Flags Fiesta Texas, The Scream doesn't slowly take you to the top. It shoots you up at 50-ish miles an hour. Because of that, I've gotta say that Zumanjaro ain't shit.
I thought Kingda Ka would go at the same time in the bid I have been to great adventure when they said they were going to open the drop ride but no they didn't but I still thought the roller coaster was supposed to go sometimes the same time as the drop ride

They should build another rollercoaster like Kingda Ka but make it 1,000 feet. Then put the drop of doom and 3 on the front and 3 on the back

It's supposed to. Almost all Rollercoasters sway. If they Didn't Too much stress would be put on the steel metal and the nuts and bolts that hold them together--it would eventually give way and the structure would be compromised. Same as tall buildings swaying in the wind on upper floors. You wouldn't feel it but the buildings are designed to sway as well.

Do all the gondolas drop in synchronization or just at random?
They're dropped at the same time, but because of various factors like weight and friction they won't be exactly side-by-side as they drop.
Considering it's the worlds tallest drop ride the OHR are very thin indeed

What is a b roll footage
"B-Roll" is the footage a production shoots to be the cutaway shots from the main story. It looks like it was done with a static "Go-Pro" type of camera strapped to the cage of the ride, just off the side. Someone commented that it was done with a helicopter---- not likely.... a Heli could get an up-draft and crash into the ride-and-or itself injuring everyone, including the heli-staff and shooters.
***** You may be right, for the Commercial Shoot... but for the B-rolls, I see no shots that would necessitate the use of a helicopter. Isn't it possible that the Heli shots, and the B-roll shots could have been done with the actors away, and not in the area of a hovering heli? Does a commercial shoot budget really have the where-with-all to afford tying up a HELI just for use on B-Roll? ... I dunno.... you say you were there, so I'm sure you know better than I. You say you were present for the commercial shots, but what types of cameras were strapped to the rides frames to get the cutaways and b-rolls? Go Pro? .... he did say " ridercam & off-ride HD b-roll footage" in the description...right?...just sayin...
