I've sort of ridden this ride. Last time I was at Magic Mountain, Goliath was under construction. I got a good view of it by riding Colossus. I have ridden Titan many times which is almost-but-not-quite identical. I've never seen what it looks like from the helix to the last curve because I gray out every time. Thanks for posting the PPOV so I can get a clue.
So many people give so much shit to Goliath, and I realize this is a super unpopular opinion…. But I love Goliath so damn much!! Yes the MCBR does kill the second half a bit, but the final helix is the only coaster section I’ve ever greyed out on, and u can’t beat a classic chain lift hill
i have NOT ridden this ride, and this ride really does look intense. im a roller coaster maniac LOL. i haven't traveled the world for this ride sadly :(.
It's not bad of a ride, but the brakes are necessary in front of the double helix. I Grey out even in the front. The G-Forces are insane in that section.
I cried when we got the top and I saw how high it was. Every inch of my body regretted being there. Yet when it was over I wanted to do it all over again, it's crazy how our body and mind react to these things 😂
I don’t care the scare but does your body fell like it’s getting stretched apart in the tall drops? I was in ghost ride at knots and it hurt cuz there in a lap restraint 😂
Yeah, I was reminded of how high up and how openly spacious the scene was when just going up and I vaguely recall it back then when I was on it years ago, but watching this video and the front car only being about half to 3/4 of the way up, the camera turn to the left to look out over, and I think to myself while just watching this video, I’m not even in the cars, but I’m watching this video, and I’m thinking….f*ck that’s high. 😂
This was my first roller coaster I've ever ridden in my entire life. I remembered my friend and I decided to do this one just because there was no loop so nothing crazy...we were so wrong. Half way up hill we were like "why was it taken so long" till we saw the first drop... After Goliath, every other ride in the park was like nothing to us. LOL
I only regret it when hitting that long break run. I miss going so fast in the helix turns. After soo long they had to make that break run stop the train more than it use to because soo many people use to blackout by that turn next to the ground.
underrated commentary from the guy running the ride. can't believe there are no other comments about it. "yeah!! three people liked it!" he's working for himself lol
I remember the first time I went on Goliath when I was 13. Was the only time I felt dread going on a coaster. Halfway up the lift chain. And then 3/4 of the way there. That incline is just so long and steep. Totally worth it.
I may be showing my age but back in Six Flags in Jackson, NJ we rode the Nitro coaster when it first opened - talk about climbing lol. 235 ft. I believe it was, then straight down. Front row - what an anxiety inducer but such a good coaster.
For those wondering why the train came to a stop on the midcourse, it may of been that the preceding train did not clear the track before hitting the next block, or the final brake run
To avoid accidents, the second break near the end, must be clear without the second train, so the first train can continue from the mid track and stops on the second break
No actually it’s becuz the rest of the layout after the mid course taken at any speed faster than that causes riders to black out from the high positive g forces
I’ve greyed out on this ride not going to lie it scared the shit out of my eye sight blacked and then it came back the helex was crazy intense idk if it still is I haven’t been back since.

Forever favorite, interesting full stop at the MCBR- most of all my rides had coasted through after a rather abrupt stop. This coaster still holds it's own!
I went on this coaster 20 years ago (this June) and I didn't think we'd ever reach the top of the first hill. It felt like it took 20 minutes just to get there.
For my first time going on Goliath my friend told me this rides wasnt that bad but once we got to the peak before the ride he apologized and said "i hate this ride"
Looks like a lot of fun but it also looks like it's not functioning to its full capacity. I also noticed an extreme amount of rust especially at the weld joints and bolts don't see this ride being in operation service much longer without a serious overhaul. It's one thing to do and inspection but it's something altogether different to do a metal integrity strength analysis.
Ah yes the amazing pacing. I love stopping for half a minute at a dead stop on the breakrun. Man this coaster gets worse and worse. SO much grease on the track too after the midcourse.
That's so strange, we have this coaster at six flags over Texas and the stop in the middle is like 3 seconds tops. Sooo rough for the ride to awkwardly stop in the middle.
@@shaodynasty1017 Titan is a big pile of garbage as well, just not as much so as Goliath. We went out to Magic Mountain a few week ago (Over Texas is our home park), and the first thing I noticed (aside from MM being an infinitely better park) is that Goliath creeps over the top of the lift hill. actually it is pretty cool. The ride is more intense that it looks. That stop gives you a great time to look around and take in the scenery. The end of goliath, in my opinion, is the best as you get to pushed down in your sear and so hard to move your head from the g forces, it is awesome.
Goliath is... picky sometimes. it's common for the train to be held in the MCBR for odd amounts of time, even tho the blocks are clear. they only ever run 2 trains max, and there are (at least) 2 block zones in between the MCBR and the station, so there's plenty of blocking. it's just an aging Gio...
@@realmackle sometimes you don't actually come to a stop, other times you sit there for a bit. there could also be some sensor management that determines how much force to slow the train down by, but I have no idea why it needs to just sit there... and don't get me started on the 1 foot track nugget at the end...
I was thinking the exact same thing! Been on RB dozens of times and instantly recognized it. It still is one of Great America's premier coasters 20+ years running.
Dude i remember riding this for grad night or some school event. Wow. Most insane feeling ever, that drop is long. Wicked experience. I need to ride it again for good measure.
years ago rode this and it broke down on the brake station before the helixes. we sat up there for 45 minutes until they got the hydraulics fixed and we finished the ride. scary sitting that high when not moving, but it was fun.
Check out the one at Six Flags Georgia! The cars are different. I'm 6'3 and my feet don't touch the floor and there's nothing to hold on to. Intense! I love it!
I went on this rollercoaster during a school trip back in middle school and man what a rush! I kept my head in my knees the first time I rode the coaster out of fear, the second time I managed to keep my eyes straight the whole time. (I also remember the father of one of my classmates losing his hat during the corkscrew at 3:00, one of the park employees retrieved it for him)
As was said before it is a block break. This happened to me on rip tide rocket at universal studios. Train stopped at the block brake near the end of the ride. We sat there for about 1 minute and then we slowly feel through and the coaster continued
I305 actually goes up to 94mph. That’s in Kings Dominion in Virginia. Live right next to it and I305 is hands down one of the most intense rollercoasters in the world in terms of pure G forces.
Not in California (although I wish it would come here) but King Da Ka in Jersey literally launches you at 125mph in just a few seconds to 456 feet before going over the top hat and plummeting back down at about 128mps. Magic mountain NEEDS a ride like this.
The worst part is when you're on top of a hill and regret every second of wanting to get on so you want to get off but realize the only way to get off is going down.
I’m so excited to finally come to this theme park in October 2023. Me and my partner are from New Zealand and have only dreamed of coming to America so we thought? Why don’t we just save up our money and go? Lmao. So that’s what we doing and we are coming straight for Goliath.
I last rode this coaster back in 2002. Nice first drop. Don't remember the complete stop in the middle. I do remember the Gs' in those last turns. What a good time
I've been preaching on this hill for 20 years. G is a bad hypercoaster and in a park full of good coasters time spent there just deprives you of better experiences
Me and 5 of my friends went to Magic Mountain at the beginning of the summer. We were all hyping up the rides like Goliath, Superman, Twisted Colossus and more. I had never been on ANY roller coasters before in my life. The first thing we did when we got to the park was Goliath. I was so scared to do it, but I didn’t want to miss out on the experience. Probably the biggest mistake of my life, since I definitely wasn’t warmed up and ended up passing out. After we did Goliath though, the rest of the rides at the park was a breeze and were pretty fun.
It was the dude that went before me and my friend. He was excited and smiling all that, and after he went he was shocked to death. I saw the fear in this eyes knowing I'm not gonna make it out alive either 💀💀
I’ll try to explain this as simple and understandable as possible. So popular coasters like these at big parks like Magic Mountain need to have a high hourly capacity. Hourly capacity or riders per hour is how many guests can ride the coaster every hour. Large coasters that attract crowds like Goliath need high capacities so they run more than 1 train. That’s where block zones come into play. A block zone is a section of a ride that only one train may occupy. At the end of a block zone is a method to stop a train in case the block zone ahead is occupied. This is how coasters can safely run more than 1 train at once. In this case, the reason the train stopped on the brakes mid ride is because the block zone ahead already had a train in it. Once the train ahead cleared the block zone, the train behind it could proceed forward into the second half of the ride. So yes, you are missing something, it is very needed.
@@dibble1331 Good explanation but wrong situation. Goliath has the mcbr cause of the following helix (but I suppose it does also double as a regular block zone break run) Nowadays it's common to grey out at the helix but before the mcbr would slow or stop the train, people were apparently full on passing out Also is that block run explanation the same one as ElToroRyan (I think that's the person)? Love it.
@@47ratsinahoodie I forgot to mention, the following helixes would be way too intense. Like, Moonsault Scramble’s pretzel knot intense. And I may or may not have stolen the block zone speech from ElToroRyan.
Thank you for taking Me down memory lane I remember when this ride had just been built I was 13 and my brother 😖Did not want to get on!!! I was Determined!😆
I don't remember the train coming to a complete stop at the mid section, I remember it slowed down to barely have enough speed to continue going. Maybe they changed it.
that's the break-run. depending o the loading time at the station, sometimes the train will come to a complete stop at the midway point. it's a safety feature.
I remember going on this the first year it came out. At the time Goliath came out it was the tallest full circuit coaster on Earth. It had the tallest drop. A few months later the opening of Millenium Force pretty much made Goliath a forgotten coaster for a lot of people. MIllenium Force was the worlds first Giga coaster. It’s a shame that Magic Mountain still does not have a Giga, but I digress. Goliath was super disappointing when I first rode it. It’s an ok ride now. Very smooth. Not a terrifying first drop for a lot of roller coaster enthusiasts (thoosies) but it’s still a solid drop. Titan at Six Flags Over Texas is very similar to Goliath. There’s some differences about that ride, but the biggest difference is that when you’re on Titan you have an incredible view of the AT&T and the baseball stadiums. It’s pretty awesome. Anyways, thanks for the upload! Maybe Goliath could use a repaint? And they need to fix the misters that they used to have at the bottom of the first drop. Magic Mountain doesn’t maintain the little special effects of their rides and it really shows.
@@LucasKimCARP Can confirm that the drop was a bit disappointing after getting on it yesterday. Though, I’ve recently taken a real liking to rollercoasters, so maybe I’m spoiled by coasters such as X2

You probably going to get a handful of people who say this drop is weak. It’s opinion anyways just go ride the ride yourself but it’s definitely not weak. Might not be the best but definitely not weak 🤦🏾♂️
@@MrOPM-vc6ow it’s because the trend in the roller coaster world was going for a more forceful drop. A lot of Alan Schilke roller coasters feature a very very steep drop. People have gotten so used to them that we forgot what a less forceful drop (Goliath) was like. People can’t go into Goliath expecting an RMC experience. It’s a totally different experience. Goliath is a coaster that I’ve grown to like more and more as I’ve gotten older.
Hearing the breaks stop to fall is absolutely the most terrifying sound to me.. I wanted to get on this ride but bitches out last minute I couldn’t do it lol
I miss in the early 2000’s when the break run didn’t have you come to a complete stop. However, I do appreciate that they added a seat belt because when I rode this for first time in May of 2001 I was very tiny my freshman year & I didn’t feel like I was secure enough. I thought I was going to have a heart attack going up that lift hill because I thought I was going to fall out. The rest of the ride was fun though after that freak out.
Rode this when my band took a trip to California, a ton of fun and was one of the first roller coasters I ever went on, tbh idk why people are scared the second time I just looked around at the amazing view up there 10/10
I remember going on this for the first time, I thought it was going to be nothing until I saw the drop. It looks like nothing from the ground but once you’re up there, the whole mood changes which is terrifying. And once it dropped i passed out and then woke up and around ( 3:01) I passed out again.😂😂
The only ride that I've actually almost blacked out on. It was at the part that I was going around in circles sideways, and I started to have temporary blindness, but as soon as it started, the ride went back to normal, and I regained consciousness. Still scary to think about.

I went on this ride last summer and gota be the best ride Ive been to! At one point their was so much g-force that the ride made my eyes close!
Hi, nice video. What do you use to hold the camera during the ride? Chest mount or something else?
What a great roller coaster!
But I think the Twissted Colossus next to it is by far the coolest roller coaster I've ever seen in the world.
If you see people in shock when they come back , its going to be a good ride . 😎
I LOVE this ride!!! We would use Scream roller coaster to hype us up for the Goliath (at least for me!!). Wish I was back in CA to enjoy this ride!!❤
That stop in the middle will drive me crazy!
actually it is pretty cool. The ride is more intense that it looks. That stop gives you a great time to look around and take in the scenery. The end of goliath, in my opinion, is the best as you get to pushed down in your sear and so hard to move your head from the g forces, it is awesome.
I kind of like the black repaint on the break run! 😲
That whole section needs to be rebuilt somebody pause life and have one of these Planet Coaster Artists redo the break run. Lol
Thats rust
@@ceramikxxx5882 it's oil
Ive been on this and that first drop is crazy. I almost flew out.
What is going on with the track at the MCBR? Looks like it’s been soaked in oil.
Probably had oil drip off the chain directly above it lol
Was that stop just a block zone clearance or is that part of the ride?
Goliath is... picky sometimes. it's common for the train to be held in the MCBR for odd amounts of time, even tho the blocks are clear. they only ever run 2 trains max, and there are (at least) 2 block zones in between the MCBR and the station, so there's plenty of blocking. it's just an aging Gio...
@@JoshStern ahhhh, I see
@@realmackle sometimes you don't actually come to a stop, other times you sit there for a bit. there could also be some sensor management that determines how much force to slow the train down by, but I have no idea why it needs to just sit there... and don't get me started on the 1 foot track nugget at the end...
I friggin LOVE this ride. I will never understand why so many fools talk crap on it.
Now I know I’m not the only one that almost passes out at that one turn towards the end. EVERY TIME. Thought it was just because I’m getting old lol.
This is the same track design as Raging Bull in Six Flags great America in Gurnee IL. These coasters were both made near the 2000s.
I was thinking the exact same thing! Been on RB dozens of times and instantly recognized it. It still is one of Great America's premier coasters 20+ years running.
This coaster needs to be seriously updated. Like tear this one down and build a replacement B&M Hyper Coaster with the Staggered Seat Trains.
Yes!!!
Absolutely! Same way you fix a bad car: Unscrew the gas cap, drive another car underneath it, and then screw the gas cap back on.
@@johnulmerRacing 🤣
Fuck no. This ride is perfect, I don't care what anyone else says
No way
Dude i remember riding this for grad night or some school event. Wow. Most insane feeling ever, that drop is long. Wicked experience. I need to ride it again for good measure.
No way I didn’t know grad nite can take place at 6 flags. I thought it usually take place at Disneyland or universal studios
Ah, the amazing fun to be had at Six Falgs.
You beat me to it!
years ago rode this and it broke down on the brake station before the helixes. we sat up there for 45 minutes until they got the hydraulics fixed and we finished the ride. scary sitting that high when not moving, but it was fun.
That drop looks sooooo intense man!!
This was my first only rollercoaster. Such a thrill.
just watching this made my stomach turn 😂😂😂 great video showing a great ride !
Check out the one at Six Flags Georgia! The cars are different. I'm 6'3 and my feet don't touch the floor and there's nothing to hold on to. Intense! I love it!
It's had the same coaster train as Nitro in SFGA in Jackson,NJ Fury 325 at Carowinds in Charlotte,NC
Love this coaster 🎢
I went on this rollercoaster during a school trip back in middle school and man what a rush! I kept my head in my knees the first time I rode the coaster out of fear, the second time I managed to keep my eyes straight the whole time. (I also remember the father of one of my classmates losing his hat during the corkscrew at 3:00, one of the park employees retrieved it for him)
What exactly makes the clicking sound on the way up the lift hill? Is it the gears that turn...
SFFMM must repaint this coaster I've notice the color of the rail is fading
They.need.to.get.on.the.ball.and.do.what.they.should.to.maintain.their.rollercoaster.ride
As was said before it is a block break. This happened to me on rip tide rocket at universal studios. Train stopped at the block brake near the end of the ride. We sat there for about 1 minute and then we slowly feel through and the coaster continued
this was the fastest ride I've ever been on until I went to Carowinds in NC and got on Intimidator 305 (80mph) and Fury 325 (95mph). crazy.
I305 actually goes up to 94mph. That’s in Kings Dominion in Virginia. Live right next to it and I305 is hands down one of the most intense rollercoasters in the world in terms of pure G forces.
Yo on xcelerator in knotts that’s 80
Not in California (although I wish it would come here) but King Da Ka in Jersey literally launches you at 125mph in just a few seconds to 456 feet before going over the top hat and plummeting back down at about 128mps. Magic mountain NEEDS a ride like this.
@@tlankey5490 right and I've been on kingda ka
@@anthonyhenderson3625 the Superman ride should’ve been a strata coaster like Kingda Ka
The G forces look insane on this ride
The worst part is when you're on top of a hill and regret every second of wanting to get on so you want to get off but realize the only way to get off is going down.
Why does the roller coaster stop right in the middle???
I’m so excited to finally come to this theme park in October 2023. Me and my partner are from New Zealand and have only dreamed of coming to America so we thought? Why don’t we just save up our money and go? Lmao. So that’s what we doing and we are coming straight for Goliath.
You should go on the raging bull too it’s a good one
I last rode this coaster back in 2002. Nice first drop. Don't remember the complete stop in the middle. I do remember the Gs' in those last turns. What a good time
It used to not trim the speed in the mid course brake run, they later made the train stop due to the high G-forces in the helix
Wow even the general public is beginning to notice how bland this ride is
I've been preaching on this hill for 20 years. G is a bad hypercoaster and in a park full of good coasters time spent there just deprives you of better experiences
@@BL-cc2nw Do you like I305?
Since Giovanola being out of business now, who keeps up with the manufacturing of parts? B&M or Intamin?
That was my first rollercoaster in the US 😁😎
How are you able to take a gopro/camera on the ride? Is it prohibited to bring cameras on rides, or did you sneak it on? Please answer!!
I love going to six flags on my birthday 🎂
Let’s say thanks for him making this video for us and going on it her or himself
That stop in the middle was completely needless or am I missing something. Otherwise looks fun😇
Goliath has the mcbr cause of the following helix (but I suppose it does also double as a regular block zone break run) Nowadays it's common to grey out at the helix but before the mcbr would slow or stop the train, people were apparently full on passing out
Also is that block run explanation the same one as ElToroRyan (I think that's the person)?
Great coaster! And the only one that consistently takes me to a near grey-out during that helix.
I experienced this ride today from the front, and I couldn't hear my piercing screams on the first drop through the tunnel until the second incline 💀
You wild for this.
The first drop isn't that good? It looks so massive.
@@LucasKimCARP That drop really sucks.. It's not steep at all so it provides a forceless and airtime less experience
@@LucasKimCARP Can confirm that the drop was a bit disappointing after getting on it yesterday. Though, I’ve recently taken a real liking to rollercoasters, so maybe I’m spoiled by coasters such as X2
The drop definitely isn’t weak 🤦🏾♂️ I don’t know why these people keep saying this and if this drop is weak please tell us about a better drop?
I believe they have changed the lap bar since 2005. I remember the lap bar being smaller and scary as hell
That's right.
Its the same ride at sux flags over texas in arlington called Titan
Never been on this...LOOKS AWESOME!!
This roller coaster is like life-full of twists, turns, and moments where you question everything 😂🌀
Still one of my favorite rides of all time.
That's what she said.
@@frankgrimesification bruh 😂
I miss in the early 2000’s when the break run didn’t have you come to a complete stop. However, I do appreciate that they added a seat belt because when I rode this for first time in May of 2001 I was very tiny my freshman year & I didn’t feel like I was secure enough. I thought I was going to have a heart attack going up that lift hill because I thought I was going to fall out. The rest of the ride was fun though after that freak out.
Excellent quality 🍾🍾🍾
Still scary to think about.
same I came very close
"going around in circles sideways" im just checking you mean the helix? search up a coaster helix and pls tell me so i know. btw if you do mean that, thats more coaster knowledge for you!
I rode Goliath in July 2021 and honestly loved the ride. The MCBR does kill off alot of the momentum
My favorite ride in the world. Miss you Goliath
I went to magic mountain in 2017. I spent 2 days at the park. Tbh I don’t remember a single thing about this ride, only that it had the longest line that day. I was so disappointed on this that I totally skipped it on the second day…
It was a great ride.... The view from the top of the hill was amazing. 4:06
2:31
I think it’s about time Goliath needs a repaint. Because, look at the track here.
Agreed… It’s scary how black the trash is near the mid course brakes.
When the lift hill started to slow down at the top of the coaster, I said oh shoot regretting wanting to go on this ride.
I RODE THIS AND IT WAS 5 STAR FOR ME BUT 1:55 ITS CRAZY LOVE THIS VIDEO THANKS.
I rode this opening year back in 98 I think? It was mind blowing. Start of the coaster wars.
To be honest its just feels smooth Not scary as twisted coslssus since you just go straight down and not like ur gonna fall out.
