Great video. I have been Running (yes you read that right) with mine for a year to get it started! It is over 10 years old and all I've ever done was add gas an oil. And we have cold winters and hot summers. When the neighbors ran out of jokes about me running to start it, I decided to try to repair it myself instead of getting a new one. More out of stubbornness than anything. This video inspired me. I was able to follow it step by step and ultimately .. no more running! Fires up first pull now and runs very well. The only additional thing I'd say is that after my first try at cleaning the carb by just spraying it out with the carb cleaner and reassembling, it didn't work. I found on a second try that I had to take a brillo pad to the inside of the bowl to return it to a silver color and clean out each nook and cranny of the carburetor to include the bowl bolt and the black swivel thing at top - there was junk under there I hadn't noticed at first round of cleaning - and only that second more thorough cleaning did the trick.
Hi Ryker. Thanks for a GREAT video! Gave me the courage to give it a try. (62 year old woman - 1st time lawn mower repair attempt) Lawn mower wouldn't start at all. I started with the air filter which was COMPLETELY gunked up - yuck - and cleaned it off. Put it back together and it started right up!!! WOW. I'll need to get a new one but it felt really good to give it a try and have success. All you ladies out there... give it a try! Thanks again Ryker!
Thanks - very well made video. Came for the cab clean out, stayed for the rest. A word of caution for viewers; disconnect the spark plug before you work on the blade. If you turn the blade through the compression stroke, it can start the motor (very bad for your hand). Yes there is a motor break, but error on the side of caution.Cheers
TheRykerDane Before the tuneup, the motor would run for about two minutes and quit (pump the primer and repeat). I sharpen the blade, change the plug and air filter, cleaned and rebuilt the carburetor (thanks for your help). Now it runs great. Cheers

My local lawnmower shop quoted me over $150.00 for a basic tuneup (no blade change) AND a 2 wk wait! After watching your video (less the oil change info), I was confident enough to try it on my own. Less than $40.00 and an hour of my time (rusty blade bolt), my mower is alive and well again. Running like new and slicing through the grass like a hot knife in butter. THANK YOU for the CLEAR instructions AND video.
That carburetor cleaning section really saved me. I thought I was going to have to take my sickle bar mower to the repair shop. Thanks for taking the time to create and post this video. You saved me a lot of money!
10+ years on and you're still helping folks! haha i realized my mistake when i cleaned my carb, the little washer with the lip....i cleaned it and air compressor cleaned it out....lol its now missing. thank you for helping me man! much love
Hey RykerDane you da MAN! I have the same model, & it was faltering/ stalling. With the help of your video, I did the plug, blade, & air filter (parts for carb' not available on a Sunday...so that's for another day). Changed the oil, & the BEAST roared to life! THANKS
I've had my Craftsman (model 917.388450 with B&S 126T02-1024-B1) mower since 2009 and it just started having some issues starting. Followed your video and it's running WAY better now. Thanks.
Hey RykerDane. Followed your simple video and got my mower from spluttering, smokey unreliable turkey to a 'starts first time' weapon. Thanks so much. Really like the way you fast forward through cleaning and screwing stuff to make for a compact video. Thanks again mate, you're the king.
725 engine Briggs and Stratton. Craftsman lawnmower from 2012. Garaged :-) Since last week was starting and dying after a minute or two. Instead of tuning up carb, decided to purchase new carburetor on Amazon that came with spark plug (original was never replaced before). Replaced carburetors, installed new spark plug. Now it won’t even start. I put new gas and fuel cleaner, new filter. Nothing happens. Unless new spark plug is not good, not sure what else it might be. Fuel line properly secured and no leaks.
i have a 9 year old briggs and stratton Murray 4.5hp that is still running good... bought it brand new in 2006 and it still gits r done all we did was never ran the mower out of oil always kept it full of oil, always kept the oil changed, always kept the carb clean and its still running good today!!!! :)
HUGE appreciation Sir. I had a Cub Cadet ST 100 walk-behind String Trimmer that I did not winterize, and it would not run - period. My fault for also using ethanol fuel too. It was evident I needed to perform an in depth carb clean. Your video got me back on track after a tentative hour of effort. First time for me opening up a carb like this. Thank you! Thank you!
Great video. You made it very easy to see what needed to be done. My mower was left out in a heavy rain and wouldn't start. I've never taken my mower apart but after watching your video, I went to work and cleaned out the fuel system and carburetor. Had the mower back up and running in about 10-15 minutes. Thanks
This video is awesome...my 10 year old lawnmower started leaking/spewing fuel after sitting for the winter. Changed oil, air filter, spark plug, and cleaned carb thanks to this video and it started right back up! Thanks!
Thanks for making this video! I've never done any small-engine work before, but after watching this I was able to successfully clean out my lawnmower's carburetor... AND get it started back up again.
OMG This helped so much. I've been messing with the mower for two days. One of the jets was clogged. Cleaned the carb and jets, put fresh fuel with fuel/carb cleaner in it and it worked the first pull. Thank you so much! Here have a sub!
Thank you so so much!! My son and I enjoyed your video and cannot wait to watch it again tomorrow and attempt to clean our Troy-Bilt Lawnmower's carburetor on our own!! I have to say we were more than a bit nervous about even taking the cover off until we watched your very well done and informative video!! After trying to start our lawnmower and having it fail to keep running way too many times!! Our simple Sunday lawn mowing job had quickly turned into our giant Sunday nightmare!!! We started with removing the spark plug which was terribly fouled.......... as well as being the wrong size, and headed out to Home Depot to buy a new one, came home installed it.......... crossed our fingers, said a little prayer and tried to start it up again.........to no avail, it started right up and ran for 3 seconds and died!!!!! So.......... my first thought was that the engine was not getting any gas and that the carburetor was probably clogged and/or dirty and OMG now what are we gonna do?!?! Because this is no simple undertaking especially if you're broke and cannot afford to take it to the local Lawnmower repair shop!!!! But before throwing in the towel I figured I should go to my favorite place for solutions and instructions on how-to!! Google/RUclips and that's how we found your awesome video!!! Thank you once again for helping us realize that we could actually resolve our lawnmower problems so easily and inexpensively!!! My son already got all the necessary tools from the garage and all we have to do now is go buy some cleaner and wait for daylight and bring you outside with us on my laptop!! Thanks to you I have all the confidence in the world we can do this job ;0) I will come back and post our results!!!
You are so very welcome, and I am glad that you found this video useful and hopefully you can get it running, or maybe you already did! Thanks so much for watching, and check out my channel and subscribe because I have lot of other helpful videos. Thank you so much again Lori Lennon!
Great video!! I was fighting with my lawn mower for a few weeks:). I had changed the oil and filter but nothing. It would start and then die, start and die.... I was already looking into buying a new lawn mower. But thanks to your video and cleaning the carburetor my lawn mower is working again. Thank you!!!
I have a slightly different model that's three years old. I put Stabil in the gas, change the oil, and generally take good care of the mower. But when I pulled it out this year, it didn't even want to try to turn over. In hind sight, I think maybe the carburetor was flooded or the pin holding the float might have come out. In either event, this video helped me take off the carburetor, clean it, and put it back on. After it was all put back together, it started on the third crank and purred like it was almost new letting me get the yard mowed. Thank you!!!
Almost bought me a new mower....until I saw your video! Thanks a lot for the important information that you have shared. I know that this video has helped a lot of people and saved a lot of money. More power to you and God Bless!
Omg!! Thank you so much!!! I am a single mother with limited funds!! This video just helped me get my lawnmower working by cleaning my carburetor! I'm soooo excited!!
I just want to say thank you! I have a Craftsman w/ an almost identical briggs and stratton engine. It was close enough that I was able to follow your instructions verbatim and fix my troublesome mower in about 30 minutes. Thank you!
Wow! 30 minutes??? Pretty cool! I just talked to the mower repair shop and they said it would take one hour at $75 per hour!! I think I will attempt this fix!
So I got a lawn mower for free from a friend. It hadn't been used in a couple years, and it has to be about 7 or 8 years old now. Anyway, this video was the one that helped me diagnose and fix the problem. Thanks for the help!
Excellently made video. I had no idea where my carburetor was on my mower until I watched this.... watched this video once and then took mine apart with confidence, cleaned it, put it together and it started right up. Thanks again.
you are welcome, yep I know what you mean, sometimes people take forever to explain and show something. Just get to the point already. thanks for watching and glad it helped!
Great video! I've used this video every year for reference. Majority of the time it's a dirty carb with old fuel and gunk. I cleaned the carb without taking out the whole thing off. Took out the bowl, float, and needle and sprayed them with carb cleaner. Let it dry. Also, clean the spark plug with carb cleaner and let it dry. Fuel stabilizer or Seafoam wouldn't hurt when cleaning or storing it for winter.
Possibly check your throttle cable to make sure it is not giving too much gas, or check your primer bulb to make sure it is not cracked. All I can say is clean that carb and you will notice a difference. Let me know if you need anything else.
TheRykerDane did everything, clean everything but my 6.5 lifan engine keeps shutting down if i accelerate to much from complete stop. If i accelerate too hard and leave it the engine stalls but once i stop accelerating or let it idle it stabilizes. It has a high flow intake KN, could it be the jet is not the right one? thank you
***** ah I see. Ok yes, then you probably need to adjust the jet, or you need to just take the carb off and clean it. Small pieces of debris can really make an engine not run well at all.
Hi there! I wanted to tell you thank you... my new mower was sitting for one year - I followed your steps to clean the carb with a paperclip and carb cleaner and it got it! Thanks a bunch!
And make sure the wire is far away from the engine block/electrode--I've had a mower bridge the gap and the spark plug still fired with the cable disconnected
Thanks!!!! couldnt figure out why my mower was choking out and running way too low. followed your instructions and its a brand new machine. Thanks again.
Thanks for the video, it helped me take my carb apart and install the carb rebuild kit. Mower wouldn't start, now starts on first pull again. Thank you.
Excellent video. I didn't realize how easy to get to the carburetor. Getting the parts was easy. I went the Briggs and Stratton website and all the parts are there to purchase. For $20 including shipping I fixed my mower. Thanks for the video!
I was lazy and cheap (dont want to break the gasket) so I only removed the cup and the needle. Then flushed all the fueld holes with cab cleaner and the mower run fine again.
I've got a Craftsman self propelled walk behind mower with a 6.75HP B&S engine very similar to the one shown here. The 'Control-bracket' broke. Just ordered a new replacement bracket along with a new OEM B&S carb from Amazon, should get here tomorrow. The new B&S OEM carb was $16 which to me sounded far more reasonable price-wise rather than using the old carb and purchasing replacement parts or a carb rebuild kit. Hopefully it'll start up and run like it should and not keep flooding out on restarts when the engine gets hot which would make for a whole lot of starter pulls to get it running again. Had been doing that for the last several years... major pain!! I'm guessing the float was sticking? Regardless, thanks for this video, might just come in handy!
Just from working with engines, and mechanical parts since I was younger. But this is simple stuff though. The hard stuff is working on an engine and you can't get to the part you want to fix without having to remove a bunch of other things. Hope this helped you. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for doing this video man ! I hold an IT expert job and feel so foolish, I wouldn't even try to learn about these things. I fixed my lawnmower and think I am gonna fix a second one I left in storage with the same "Mystery problem" Awsome !
Hey TheRykerDane- I was going to do the full clean up but when I took the carburetor off my lawnmower and priced the kit to change it all up I found a new carburetor was only a few dollars more so I went that route. I wouldn't have been able to do it without this video though. Thanks.
Rebuild carbs every day honda brigs kohler ect, have never had to replace needle or seat.If u have to u need a new carb. If people would read there owners manual about storing there small engines all of this could be avoided. The problem is called ETHENAL
Thanks man, this saved us about $75 at a lawnmower repair shop! Carburetor seemed to have water in the bowl which was causing it not to start even after changing gas, spark plug and air filter!
Thanks so much for the video. My mower would not start and after watching the video, I removed and cleaned the carburetor and now it starts with only one pull...just like when it was new. I was surprised how much gunk I found all around the carb, but using the carb cleaner and the paper clips worked wonders for me. Thanks so much!!!
Great video. VERY helpful to us folks that are NOT mechanically-minded. I've got a Scott's 25-year old mower that looks just like this one. B&S engine. It just quit yesterday, but I think it still has more life in it. Just cut my whole yard and put a new plug, filter and blade on it. So I hate to chunk it. But it just sputters when I try to pull it. Thanks, again!
This is a lawnmower, after all. It's not a rocket ship. I think all males should at least be trained at some point, in their primary education on these lawn mowers, which share the technology we've had for over 100 years now. Good video. To the rest of the folks, it's simple, and nothing to it.
Great Video Ryker Dane, I couldn't have done that rebuild without you. Your an A no.1 guy, all the other channels on lawn mower repairs didn't even come close to your expertise and easy to follow instructions. Thanks
Very helpful....I have a 3 yr old "Troy bilt" Briggs engine that will run for 3 minutes and then stop. This vid has encouraged me to get a rebuild kit and do it
Thank you so much for this video. I have the same motor on my mower and it just would not stay running. I followed the steps in your video and now it runs like new, one the first pull. The only snag I ran into was the carb kit came with a bowl gasket that was not tall enough to seal the bowl. But I just cleaned the old one off and reused it. Thanks again man!
There's too many parts and too many bolts how do you ever remember which bolts go where and how do you remember all the steps?!! I just bought my push mower in the fall and used it less that 5 times and it won't start and I have no clue why or how. I have no idea what I'm supposed to do or how to do it where to get new parts and I'm about ready to cry. How is my luck always like this!?? Why does anything with an engine that comes my way dies shortly after I get it?!?! =( Can you please just come to my house and fix it please? I'll make you some brownies! Brownies I understand! Brownies I can make happen! Cooking and baking I get. But motors and engines frustrate the living hell out of me. (cries)
BlinkinFirefly Oh, I am so sorry about your frustrations. I know it can be hard to understand at first, but its really a lot easier than you think. Just start slow and take out the bolts systematically so you can remember where you had it. You could also set up a camera and record, that way you won't forget anything. Keep your head up. The brownies sound great but I bet you are across the country somewhere. I am in SC. Good Luck!
Nah, I'm in North Florida! Like 6 hours away! Come on down! =P But yea you're right, I just want instant gratification. I don't want to take the mower to the shop because I KNOW its probably easy enough to do myself. I would wind up paying half of what I paid for the mower if I took it in. It's just...the work...ugh.
Just wanted to say thank you. Couldnt figure out why my mower wasnt working. The minute I took off the side plate gas started going everywhere. Must have been totally flooded. Took everything apart, cleaned the carb and replaced the plug and its running like a champ. Thanks again!
Thanks for the video! Used my 13-year-old mower fine one day, next time wouldn't start. Your video, $3 can of carb cleaner, and 2 hours later, works like a charm.
Hello RykerDane... I just want to thank you for this Video. My BRIGGS & STRATTON 6.5 has not started in weeks. The grass is getting way high and I really didn't have the Funds to put in my Mower... (no Way I was gonna dig into my Beer Funds) I came across your Video. I did the CARBURETOR CLEAN and the Mower is Purring like a Kitten... Thanks Dude...
Thanks. I have a mower pretty much like that. I feel confident after watching this that I could easily tune-up my own mower. Now to find the tune-up parts.
Thanks for the Great Info RykerDane! I watched your video twice and successfully rebuilt the carburetor on my Craftsman push-mower. I spent a ton more time trying to find the darn Briggs & Stratton re-build kit than actually doing the work. I never would have believed it could be so easy. Thanks again!
Holy cow, thanks for the closeup at 4:00, I had taken carb off to clean it and let it soak up the cleaner and the needle fell off and I had no clue where it was supposed to go until watching this video.
I had an identical engine on mine and thanks to this my non-running mower is running again! I didn't use it at all last year because the city had my parkway torn up for gas and sewer work and they didn't finish until December. The gas turned to sludge in the carb. Pro tip: don't turn your mower upside down to work on it! I found out the hard way. :p
female- thank you for this video. I was able to service my own lawn mower. And felt really proud that i done it all my self (with the help of youtube) cheer Mate !!
hello. GREAT video. Watched it once went out and tore mine apart!!! WOOHOO. don't know if you are still here and can answer this question for me but I'm gonna leave it here. I have a LT1000 you could get it started and then she would die. Thought carburetor, followed everything you did as to cleaning it. I even blew out the fuel line. I replaced the rubber gasket as it was brittle. Here's my problem, I put it back together. Filled it up full with gas. When I went to prime it gas squirted out the primer just a little and then I tried it after a few times the mower started up. I ran it and even cut a small garden area. Dumped the bag. Brought it back to house and I was pretty low on gas. Don't think it should have been low already. Tried starting it again and it fired up but started to die after a few seconds - that is what was wrong with it to start with. Any ideas on what to do next? I've looked all over to see where the gas is leaking out of but can't see anything... Thank you
I have an old Mastercraft mower that doesn't want to start anymore it has the exact carburetor system as this. This video is great for seeing what needs doing... now just to get to it. Thanks.
Man. Mad respect thank you! I may make my own video. Craftsman makes darn good mowers. Mine had its first oil change in longer than I care to admit. Will be doing this service this week. Gold 6.75. THANK YOU!! I learned a lot once she didnt wanna start this year.
Thank you so much!! I am 9 months pregnant and have been having financial difficulties. This is a new mower that just ran out of warranty. I thought for sure I needed yet another one. It's only 3 months old. Thanks to your video I got it running!!!
I have this same mower and thanks to this my mower is running great. I ordered a carburetor rebuild kit from sears and rebuilt it. I did notice though theres an air bleed jet on the side of the bowl thats very small. I couldnt get a paper clip in it to clean it out so i took a small piece of wire, stripped about 2" on it and took 4 strands and twisted them together. That made it small enough to clean that air bleed. my mower has never run better.
We have this very mower, and when I went to cut the grass yesterday it started and cut off repeatedly. I just gave up. Granted, we haven't taken very good care of it, so it's long overdue for a tune up. I told my husband - who is away - about it, and he said for me not to worry about it because 1) I have no patience and 2) I don't know anything about engines. Talk about throwing down the gauntlet! I WILL get this puppy going smoothly. Thanks so much for the video. I'll let you know how it goes. :)
TheRykerDane Well, good news, bad news. Hubby insisted on doing the repair, but I watched and he did everything you did as far as I can tell. We didn't have a carb kit so we cleaned up all the parts and reassembled it all, with new air filter and spark plug. The mower starts, but it has no power, certainly not enough to engage the drive. We're letting is sit for now, in case we'd flooded the engine. But I suspect we probably need a carb kit, because the gasket where the air filter assembly attaches to the carb has deteriorated, which practically fell apart when we removed the carb. I'd appreciate any thoughts you might have! Thanks, Janis
Well, unless you are leaking a lot of fuel then that would not affect the power as much. What about the spark plug you put in? Was it the correct one and same size? Also check the air filter and to make sure it is breathing good. The loss of power will happen if you are not getting the right amount of fuel, the piston is not firing, and the engine is not breathing. Also, check your throttle cable and where it attaches. To give it more power you can pull on it down by the carb, not just by the handle. hope some of that helps. let me know, thanks
thanks for the guide, lawn mower would start and only run for a few seconds before it died. Working great now after I replaced the air filter, spark plug, and cleaned the carburetor. All for less than $10
Thanks for the great video! I had never cleaned my carb before and was having problems with my mower. After watching this video, I have successfully fixed my mower! Thanks again!
Besides a construction screw, another good way you can also remove the needle seat (the tiny red 'gasket' in the hole that the needle valve engages) is to put your compressed air nozzle up to the gas inlet nipple and blow. The seat will fly out of the carb, across your driveway, never to be seen again. (Ask me how I know....)
You know, I dont even need to tune up my mower, but I was strolling through youtube and watched this video and I couldn't help but notice how well put together it was. I appreciate your attention to detail in simple things like lighting, clarity of shot, and cutting out unnecessary video (like screwing and unscrewing). Great Job!

Damn dude, this video is 1,000 times better than all the other mower videos i've seen (about 20 so far).
awesome, glad to help!
Cutting edge stuff.

Success! Even for a 58 yo female working with a very filthy mower. Bought the parts kit from my local outdoor equipment dealer. Thank you!
Thanks for making this video! I've never done any small-engine work before, but after watching this I was able to successfully clean out my lawnmower's carburetor... AND get it started back up again.
thats awesome! It feels good to do it yourself rather than pay someone else to do it right! thanks for watching!
Saved me $$$. All it took was 30 mins and it’s running like new. I was already thinking about buying a new mower thank you!
OMG This helped so much. I've been messing with the mower for two days. One of the jets was clogged. Cleaned the carb and jets, put fresh fuel with fuel/carb cleaner in it and it worked the first pull. Thank you so much! Here have a sub!
thanks a lot!
Avel Awesome! Glad I could save you from buying another, thanks for watching!
Thank you!!!
thats awesome, congrats on getting it going!
one of the best instructional videos I've seen on youtube yet. Thanks for sharing your expertise
Almost bought me a new mower....until I saw your video! Thanks a lot for the important information that you have shared. I know that this video has helped a lot of people and saved a lot of money. More power to you and God Bless!
Dale Laureano You are very welcome, and I am glad you got it fixed. that way you saved 350 bucks from buying a new one
Thanks for the help. My mower wouldn't start today after sitting all winter. I cleaned the carburetor per instructions and it started right up.
nice job!
Omg!! Thank you so much!!! I am a single mother with limited funds!! This video just helped me get my lawnmower working by cleaning my carburetor! I'm soooo excited!!
You are so welcome! Its great to save money right? Good job on getting it working again!
Thanks so much for the help! I fixed my 8yr old Lowes's mower (w/a B&S engine) this weekened & wouldn't have been able to do it without this how to...
I just used this video in May 2023 to clean and update the carburetor in my Sears Craftsman mower with a B & S engine--it was perfect. Thanks!
Excellent tutorial!!! My mower wouldn't start and the carburetor was the reason for it. Thank you for taking the time to make this!! Awesome
+R “RD” Leon you are welcome, I hope you got it fixed
I just want to say thank you! I have a Craftsman w/ an almost identical briggs and stratton engine. It was close enough that I was able to follow your instructions verbatim and fix my troublesome mower in about 30 minutes. Thank you!
You are very welcome, glad you got it running!
Wow! 30 minutes??? Pretty cool! I just talked to the mower repair shop and they said it would take one hour at $75 per hour!! I think I will attempt this fix!
Yep I think you can do it, Its easier than you think and cheaper too, good luck!
because of this video my mower runs like new again. thank you young man for the vid.
Zach Garn You are welcome, glad to help!
So I got a lawn mower for free from a friend. It hadn't been used in a couple years, and it has to be about 7 or 8 years old now. Anyway, this video was the one that helped me diagnose and fix the problem. Thanks for the help!
I love how simple and clear your demonstration is. Thanks for your help!
Thank you, you are welcome!
Excellently made video. I had no idea where my carburetor was on my mower until I watched this.... watched this video once and then took mine apart with confidence, cleaned it, put it together and it started right up. Thanks again.
This video basically fixed my mower. Cleaned carb, all good. Thank you, sir!
Mark Z. awesome, you are welcome!
no gloves?
Excellent video - well done! So many times I watch videos with LONG WINDED people. You did a great and thorough job!! Thanks.
you are welcome, yep I know what you mean, sometimes people take forever to explain and show something. Just get to the point already. thanks for watching and glad it helped!
Great tutorial video! Exactly what I've been looking for on how to learn to do my own lawnmower tuneup!
Your video was the best! You show everything closeup and exactly how to put it together. Great job
Awesome video. Got my mower up and running quickly.
Fuel stabilizer or Seafoam wouldn't hurt when cleaning or storing it for winter.
you got it, good tips!
Great video, thanks for spending the time to put this together. It was a huge help!!
+Jason W you are very welcome!
bought some carb cleaner and followed the video how to and started the mower in three tries. It wasn't even starting at all, love this video.
Thats great! Glad you got it running!
Check to make sure the right amount of fuel is coming out. And check your primer bulb to see if it is cracked.
It has a high flow intake KN, could it be the jet is not the right one? thank you
***** You have a High flow intake on a lawnmower? I have never seen that before.
its not a lawnmower is a go kart with a lifan 6.5 engine
***** ah I see. Ok yes, then you probably need to adjust the jet, or you need to just take the carb off and clean it. Small pieces of debris can really make an engine not run well at all.
This just saved me the trouble of buying a new lawn mower. I cleaned the air filter and mine started running great again. Thanks for the help
excellent video.did a great job of jumping through the boring parts
Pam McGee n
Hi there! I wanted to tell you thank you... my new mower was sitting for one year - I followed your steps to clean the carb with a paperclip and carb cleaner and it got it!
Thanks a bunch!
never work on a mower with the spark plug connected. disconnect the plug before tinkering with the blade.
VERY IMPORTANT WARNING ADVISE. THANKS FOR POSTING THAT.
You are correct Joe .... that puppy only has to kick once to remove body parts
And make sure the wire is far away from the engine block/electrode--I've had a mower bridge the gap and the spark plug still fired with the cable disconnected
I know right. 1st thing I said too..
It's cheaper and easier to just buy a new carburator.
Thanks!!!! couldnt figure out why my mower was choking out and running way too low. followed your instructions and its a brand new machine. Thanks again.
thats great! Glad to help!
Thanks for the video, it helped me take my carb apart and install the carb rebuild kit. Mower wouldn't start, now starts on first pull again. Thank you.
darink300zx awesome!
Excellent video. I didn't realize how easy to get to the carburetor. Getting the parts was easy. I went the Briggs and Stratton website and all the parts are there to purchase. For $20 including shipping I fixed my mower. Thanks for the video!
awesome!
I was lazy and cheap (dont want to break the gasket) so I only removed the cup and the needle. Then flushed all the fueld holes with cab cleaner and the mower run fine again.
cay du Thats awesome, glad you got it running!
Best how-to I've found so far. Though it is not my brand/model (Toro), I feel confident enough to start on it.
jenskimble awesome
Regardless, thanks for this video, might just come in handy!
daluke61 you are very welcome, I hope you get it going!
thanks man just saved me a hundred bucks on a repair. mower wasn't even starting now it's running super smooth. you rock
awesome!
Great vid... succinct and to the point... great eyes on each point of interest.
+charles jurgus you are welcome1
Hey TheRykerDane- I was going to do the full clean up but when I took the carburetor off my lawnmower and priced the kit to change it all up I found a new carburetor was only a few dollars more so I went that route. I wouldn't have been able to do it without this video though. Thanks.
That's awesome, sometimes replacing is the better route to go. Nice!
Rebuild carbs every day honda brigs kohler ect, have never had to replace needle or seat.If u have to u need a new carb. If people would read there owners manual about storing there small engines all of this could be avoided. The problem is called ETHENAL
Ethanol?
Thanks man, this saved us about $75 at a lawnmower repair shop! Carburetor seemed to have water in the bowl which was causing it not to start even after changing gas, spark plug and air filter!
thats awesome, glad to help!
Great video explained everything well thanks for posting and giving some guidance!
you are welcome
Thanks so much for the video. My mower would not start and after watching the video, I removed and cleaned the carburetor and now it starts with only one pull...just like when it was new. I was surprised how much gunk I found all around the carb, but using the carb cleaner and the paper clips worked wonders for me. Thanks so much!!!
make sure you remove the spark plug cable
Great video. VERY helpful to us folks that are NOT mechanically-minded.
I've got a Scott's 25-year old mower that looks just like this one. B&S engine. It just quit yesterday, but I think it still has more life in it. Just cut my whole yard and put a new plug, filter and blade on it. So I hate to chunk it. But it just sputters when I try to pull it.
Thanks, again!
excalibur1812 yep as long as the carb is clean, they will run a long time. I hope you get it going!
Ran briefly after cleaning the carb. But I decided to bite the bullet and buy a new one today.😢
This is a lawnmower, after all. It's not a rocket ship. I think all males should at least be trained at some point, in their primary education on these lawn mowers, which share the technology we've had for over 100 years now.
Good video. To the rest of the folks, it's simple, and nothing to it.
yes you are correct! anyone can do it
Sure Ray Charles, even a blind man can do it.
Great Video Ryker Dane, I couldn't have done that rebuild without you. Your an A no.1 guy, all the other channels on lawn mower repairs didn't even come close to your expertise and easy to follow instructions. Thanks
you are very welcome!
An oil change wouldn't hurt...
It wont need it with an oil injection pump, it will burn it off as you run it.
Are you high, drunk, or otherwise mentally altered? Because you've lost your damn mind lol.
No need to change it if he fixed it good
Very helpful....I have a 3 yr old "Troy bilt" Briggs engine that will run for 3 minutes and then stop. This vid has encouraged me to get a rebuild kit and do it
where did you buy all the parts at?
small engine parts shop
Thank you so much for this video. I have the same motor on my mower and it just would not stay running. I followed the steps in your video and now it runs like new, one the first pull. The only snag I ran into was the carb kit came with a bowl gasket that was not tall enough to seal the bowl. But I just cleaned the old one off and reused it.
Thanks again man!
SleepyR You are welcome, get ready to do some mowing now :)
My push mower is 245cc, I would smoke this mower in a race!
Its has total loss oil burn off lubrication?
thank you so much,I just fix my lawnmower 5 min ago,I follow your video step by step and now it's working like new !!!
thank you !!!
BlinkinFirefly I can understand. But I bet you can do it! You have pretty good musical skills, so cleaning a carb should be simple!
BlinkinFirefly Do what I do, set up your phone to video record everything you do. It helps in knowing how to put it back together.
cowabunga good idea, thanks
Just wanted to say thank you. Couldnt figure out why my mower wasnt working. The minute I took off the side plate gas started going everywhere. Must have been totally flooded. Took everything apart, cleaned the carb and replaced the plug and its running like a champ. Thanks again!
Thanks for the video! Used my 13-year-old mower fine one day, next time wouldn't start. Your video, $3 can of carb cleaner, and 2 hours later, works like a charm.
in my town there is no lawnmower shop with your videos im thinking of opening my own small engine shop thanks alot from a small town in tx
Sergio Ortiz Thats awesome! I hope you get your business going!
Glad to help
Thanks for the Great Info RykerDane! I watched your video twice and successfully rebuilt the carburetor on my Craftsman push-mower. I spent a ton more time trying to find the darn Briggs & Stratton re-build kit than actually doing the work. I never would have believed it could be so easy. Thanks again!
Holy cow, thanks for the closeup at 4:00, I had taken carb off to clean it and let it soak up the cleaner and the needle fell off and I had no clue where it was supposed to go until watching this video.
you are welcome!
Nice job! See it was easy and you did it! Thanks for watching!
Best video I've seen all day while searching for a video to help me clean my carburetor. Thank you.
That made it small enough to clean that air bleed.
my mower has never run better.
mvsfan33 awesome! Now you are ready for the summer mowing season!
Excellent video! I"ve never cleaned a carburetor before - thanks to you, my mower is up and running again!
Thats great! Good job, glad its running! Thanks for watching!
thats great, I hope you get it running! Thanks for watching!
TheRykerDane
Well, good news, bad news.
Thanks,
Janis
(Ask me how I know....)
ha ha, sorry. how do you know?
@@TheRykerDane Because it's still out there, brother! 😎
Thanks for doing this video! Showing how the needle attaches to the float valve saved my bacon.
