  • How to clean, repair, service, and rebuild lawn mower carburetor on a 6.75 Quantum L-Head engine using Briggs & Stratton #498260 Carburetor Overhaul Kit. This carburettor is found on many older lawnmower brands like Craftsman, Troy-Bilt, Cub Cadet, Husqvarna, Toro, Poulan Pro, Yard Machines, and others.

    Tachometer: amzn.to/3sHibiH
    Vessel Megadora JIS screwdriver set: amzn.to/363RFqO

    Long 1/4 Quick-connect Torx Driver Bits: amzn.to/3HUNgnm

    OTC Leak-down Test Kit: amzn.to/3CyUhJn
    Compression Tester: amzn.to/3IWd6sp
    Wear your safety glasses, or you'll put your eye out. Try on some gloves. Take off that spark plug boot. Clean your room. Open the windows, those fumes are nasty. Just 'cause I do it, don't think it's the end all, be all solution. There's plenty more ideas out there, I can't take responsibility if you slice off a few fingers after watching my videos. And don't just pour that toxic stuff down the sewer or in the ditch, dispose of waste responsibly. Just be safe, OK?

      I have an almost Identical engine on my mower and I recently just bought A new carb but as a technician I like to fix parts before replace them. I see all the parts you found from the mfg but do you search on their website or is there a place you download the complete parts and assembly documents?

      @@Echo3_ I do have access to B&S documentation, but generally I go to some major parts house (partstree, jackssmallengines, repairclinic, etc.) to get diagrams for all manufacturers. From there I look for who has it in stock at the best price point/delivery option. I'm partial to partstree as they have live stock qty on their website. They've never steered my wrong before. Thanks for watching.

      @@TheLawnmowerLady awesome thank you so much. I have a mower with this same carb system but it has the primer bubble I replaced the carb and it wouldn`t start, then it started once and died and I noticed that governor choke spring has no tension but when I put something on to create tension still nothing so i`m kinda lost lol. back at it again tonight 😂😂

    I have watched dozens of these carb rebuild videos and have been repairing my own equipment and vehicles for some 47 years now and this video gets an A+ for completeness. They may exist but I have yet to see a video that shows the removal of the throttle plate and choke plate AND the replacement of the small foam throttle plate and choke plate gaskets AS PART OF THE MAIN VIDEO. I have subscribed and gave a thumbs up!

      Older video. But still not cost effective. A rebuild kit is just as expensive as an entirely new carburetor. Add in the cost to the "mechanic" to do it, and you could buy and entire new engine, lol.
      If doing it yourself, these older metal carbs can be rebuilt up to a certain point, but still easier and less expensive just to purchase a new carb.
      I will try to disassemble and clean etc, but if it looks too bad, I just buy a $10 carburetor.

      I made a post about that here a few weeks ago: ruclips.net/user/postUgkxOuYTVShaUZmzWo_luhVM_Hfy1rgTbxpG Without that Tecumseh tool, you can get the old seat out with a drywall screw. Don't go too deep and damage the sealing surface. And use the back side of a drill bit (I forget the exact size, just find one that fits in the recess with little wiggle room) to re-install the new seat. I appreciate you watching. Cheers!

    Thanks so much for putting this together; I did a rebuild before on our old mower and it didn't go well, the mower went from starving for fuel to leaking gas like a sieve. I eventually got rid of it, then my stepdaughter bought a house - in the shed was yet another Quantum-powered mower with a junked-up carbuerator. Watching your video helped me figure out several places where I had gone wrong the first time that I had no clue about; certainly the instructions that come with the B&S kit are not nearly as helpful as what you have provided. This time I was successful, aside from zinging the choke return spring into the engine.

Yesterday it just lost compression. It'll will start but then dies out after about 3-4 secs. Cleaned the spark plug and air filter and now it will run but just loping along at about 25% power. Well done. very informative, and if there is anything to learn, it is, if yoy don't have everything you need, take it to someone who does. I was going to do mine, but my nephew, who has a small shop, has all the stuff needed.
    A suggestion: Don't be so hard on your brushes. If you look at your metal brush, you can see that the tines are all bent. It takes practice (and I still do it wrong) but work with only the tips of the bristles. Once you force it, you are actually working with most of the sides of the tines. Its like running your fingers through your hair with your knuckles.

    I have a 2010 Toro Recycler(identical mower)with the same engine that is referred to as Ready Start. It has an auto choke that is activated by air movement of the fins on the flywheel. When motor won’t start on the 1st or 2nd pull, the main jet in the bottom of the bowl is likely to be stopped up or the governor vane is not moving freely.

    I love your video. I removed my carb and did all the cleaning. I really really really need a new red needle seat for my carb. My mower is just like this one. I sure don;t want to buy a whole kit. Got any ideas? My mower still cuts out after running for about 5 minutes. Maybe I need a new magneto.

    • @TheLawnmowerLady
      @TheLawnmowerLady  10 месяцев назад

      Glad it was helpful! Next time the mower stops after 5 min, pop off the fuel cap. If you hear a whooshing sound, you might have a bad fuel cap (the vent is blocked) It should start right back up. Buy a new cap. If not check for spark. Hard starting when hot is a sign of a failing ignition coil. I've seen replacement needle seats in large quantities (likely from overseas) both on ebay and AMZN. I can't vouch for the quality, but worth a try. I appreciate you watching!

    Great Video. Thanks for taking the time and being so thorough. I have the same carb, but without the choke/governor plate. I noticed that you only used the "O-Ring", but the gasket on the mating surface to the engine. There is one that came with the kit (498260). Do I not need that gasket with this application?

    • @TheLawnmowerLady
      @TheLawnmowerLady  22 дня назад +1

      Lots of different models out there, so I can't be too specific... Only replace what you remove. Most of those kits include extra items to cover multiple different carb models. That said, if the fiddle faeries have been in there before you got this mower, it's hard to tell.

      Hard to diagnose online. Obviously go over what you did or changed, maybe a disconnected spring, then start with the basics. Make sure you have good spark, good fuel flow. I appreciate you watching.

    Lawnmower Lady - Love your videos, straight and to the point. I noticed its cheaper to buy a brand-new aftermarket Carburetor than buying the rebuild kit. In fact, they package an air filter, spark plug all the gaskets fuel filters etc for less than the rebuild kit. Curious what your thoughts are on the aftermarket Carburetors. Thanks!

    • @TheLawnmowerLady
      @TheLawnmowerLady  Год назад +1

      I think those aftermarket kits have their place. I personally steer clear, I've seen too many reports of hit/miss quality. I can confirm the spark plugs are usually fit for the bin. I'm also of the mind to try and keep as much out of the landfill as possible. That often means clean and work with what I have, rather than replace. I appreciate you watching. Cheers!

    Great channel, awesome video. Would you mind reviewing which (diameter, length, thread count) bolt goes where?
    I'd removed the plastic shroud held in with screws, then the fuel tank assembly. Then unbolted the metal top covering. After that I'd also removed the air filter and bolts holding the breather box to the carb.
    So yeah, I have this model in a few pieces and am missing a few bolts. Or have some in the wrong spot.😅

    • @TheLawnmowerLady
      @TheLawnmowerLady  22 дня назад +1

      I would go to any major parts house (partstree, jackssmallengines, repairclinic, etc.) to look at the specific diagram for your engine model #. Should be stamped on a flat metal plate peeking out from under the plastic shroud, covering the muffler.

    Hiya! I just picked up a Massey Ferguson 2107 ride on needing some TLC but it runs fine, same engine as this video apart from it says 65 on it so I’m unsure as to if it’s 6.5 Hp or what?? Good video though as I’m gonna keep it & this gave me a bit of insight into it, that heat induction automatic choke thingy is an interesting gizmo I’ve never seen that before but if it works it works, I don’t really do a lot of small engine work it’s mainly my own stuff I fettle & service so cheers for this video, I heard you say something about not enough views on a live recently so I just hit play all earlier on the TV when I went out so the dogs been watching you for a couple of hours now lol, every little helps! This is the exact type of mower I'm working on myself. I cleaned the csrb in the ultrasonic cleaner and now the carb is leaking fuel. Is that because the needle isn't seating in the carb?

    • @TheLawnmowerLady
      @TheLawnmowerLady  2 года назад

      That's most likely. Either a bit of grit in the needle seat, or perhaps the needle tip is damaged. You might try a Q-tip in a small drill to polish the insides where the needle travels. Might be some oxidation that keeps the needle from moving freely. Get out that magnifying glass to make sure no cotton fibers get left in there, if you went real deep. One tiny cotton strand will keep that needle up, causing flooding too. Good luck
