I've never commented, but your videos have solved problems for me in the past, and today you taught me what I need to know once again. Thanks for the most informative and easiest to understand small engine repair videos on RUclips. Have a great day!
Excellent video-you (unlike many others) showed EVERY STEP in a way that we could see all of them to understand for those of us who are not naturally mechanically inclined. Thanks so much!
DIYer here!! Thanks!!! Great tips!!!! I have a DR lawn tractor with a Brigs. 20 years old giving me fits not wanting to run!! Excellent camera work... outstanding step by step!!!
Looks very clean, so it's strange the carb would be dirty, BUT, I did follow a video and found mine had a clogged jet, used a paper clip to unclog it and now it starts and runs fine. Thank you, RUclips.
I was just given this lawnmower as a hand-me-down and it looked to be in great condition. I went to fire it up to warm the oil to change it, and had the same problem in needing to prime the mower to keep it going. Luckily I watched this video last night for kicks and knew exactly what to do. It now works like a charm. Thanks for saving me money and allowing me to add another notch to my DIY belt!
Thank you, thank you, thank you, for the explicit video on rebuilding a Briggs & Stratton carburetor. It made it easy for this dinosaur to be successful in rebuilding my carburetor without fear of screwing it up the first time correctly. 👍👍👍
Much Appreciated. Your instructions worked perfectly on my 2 year old snowblower which would not start. Turns out the carb was was gunked up with green sticky deposits , which I'm guessing might be copper carbonate caused by crappy ethanol in my fuel. I've subscribed to your channel which are the best quality videos I was able to find. You saved my 120 dollars by not needing to take to my small motor repair shop.
I just cleaned my carburetor assuming that I had a dirty needle and seat. However put it all back together still would not run. So found your video and realized that I never checked the passages in the bowl nut. When I checked I discovered the passages were completely blocked. Cleaned them out with carb cleaner and some small gauge wire. Mower now runs like new. Many thanks.
I am So pleased to have found this video. I have a "Greenfield" ride on mower with a 6HP Briggs and Stratton engine that will run for about 15 minutes then stalls. If I loosen the fuel line After the in-line filter, the fuel miraculously appears in the inline filter again, the engine starts and runs till the next time it "runs out of fuel!. I now feel confident about taking the carburettor off. Thank You for sharing your knowledge, and the very clear and concise videos'.
Thanks for the great videos. Our hand me down mower always had a really rough idle, then wouldn't run unless you pressed the prime button, as you showed here. I cleaned some gelatinous substance from the bottom of the fuel bowl (otherwise the carburetor looked clean), and once I remember to prime it, it started and ran as smooth as in the video; smoother than it ever had for us.
Thanks for another great video. As always, it was very helpful, clear, comprehensive, and professionally done. And thanks for making your videos "DIY-friendly". I really appreciate your focus on safety also.
This really helped me! 2 points: 1.next time I'd never remove the needle valve seat! just block the channel to keep the carb cleaner away from the tiny rubber seat. I damaged it on removal. 2. If you do and are replacing with a new one, know that the tube is TAPERED down to the needle valve seat location, at first the replacement appeared too small, but when tamped into place it fit fine.
Many thanks. You wouldn't believe how gunked up the carb on my pressure washer engine was....but cleaned it following your instructions and it started right up.
thanks dude got an old mower from the previous homeowner didnt even get halfway thru my lawn and the motor started dying on me, came back the next day and did everything you did now its purring
Thank you sooooo much for this video! One of three total videos I found that solved my problem! I needed to mow my lawn...the repair people had a two week wait just to diagnose and they said it could be more than $200 to fix it based on what I had described (I didn't pay that much for the mower, new!) Thought I was going to have to trash the whole thing. I ordered a carburetor overhaul kit online (under $7)... which hasn't even arrived yet...and a can of carburetor cleaner, and just went in and cleaned everything out...et voila! I'm overjoyed! Got the whole yard mowed and no more gas leaking out! AND!!!! I now know I won't have to keep buying and trashing lawn mowers on a regular basis! :)))))
Fabulous video. I'm a rank anateur, terrified of internal combustion engines of all stripe, (scared of anything diesel too), but thanks to you I can now confidently yank the carb on my mower and do yeoman work. Thanks. You have a gift for clarity.
Another great video from Don. I must confess that at first I did not understand what Don meant when he said that the bowl bolt is also a jet and why he went to so much trouble to clean it. I cleaned my carb body to within in an inch of it's life and could not get the engine to run for more that a second or two. After paying real close attention to the bolt one last time it fired right up. Basically the bolt is hollow and gas gets sucked up through it. If the orifices in the bolt are clogged the engine will not run. After going through this I now understand why Don was so meticulous with the bolt! It does more than just hold the bowl on!! Thanks Again Don! You have a great channel!!
A belated thank you for this video: was watching it as a refresher and realized this is where you mentioned using a tip cleaner for the little holes. I'm not a welder so it took me a while to find what you meant (a little $3 thing in the welding department) but now that I have one it's great. As a suggestion, I used a pair of side cutters to snip off the smooth end portion of a few of the files so they can clean shallow holes better.
I've watched maybe 15 videos and not one had the same carb that was on my lawn mower or had the same problem. This one does, I already bought the rebuild kit because the gaskets were shot. I'm going to the garage to whip this beotch back in shape. Thank you donyboy73!
Excellent video, great camera work. So much more informative and "watchable" than these weekend warrior videographers who hold the camera in one hand and work with the other! Very clear vocals and diction...I was thinking Canadian, then I saw the predominant French on the can of started fluid...that clinched it! The engine on my pressure washer had exactly this problem and I was a little leary about messing with it myself. After this video, I feel completely comfortable pulling the carb off and cleaning it. Thanks. I've subscribed!
+donyboy73.... thanks for your videos Bud. I've learned quit a bit by watching them. I've done a head gasket and adjusted the valves on my Briggs 18.5hp. I've got a Walbro carburetor, Do you have a video on how to adjust the Carburetor?
GREAT, concise and clear instructions donyboy! Unlike other instructional videos on lawnmowers etc, your video quality and narration is highly professional! i'll keep 'tuned' in!! Keep up the good work!
Late yesterday I removed this carb from a Weedeater mower. Will place it in my ultrasonic cleaner today and replace it. I am on a roll, repaired my JD GT275 lawn tractor yesterday and it is running like new.
Wow!! This video tutorial was just what i needed to help me get my mower back on track! I had viewed several others. But, this one was geared for my briggs&stratton engine. Apologies for the lengthy question... Got Troybilt with 675 B/S, no primer bulb, from a Lady whose young son way, way overfilled the oil. Somewhere along the line he hit something to bend the blade and shear the key on the blade adapter as well. After draining the oil, I first pulled the starter, and a bit of oil spewed from the spark plug hole. After a good Carb clean, oil change, blade and adapter replacement, I took off the muffler and about 2oz of oil poured out. Put it back together, started on first pull, smoked like crazy for about 7 min, then I mowed my back yard with her machine for about 20 min. Went to deliver it to her the next day, and realized I forgot the bend the tabs on the muffler washer and lost one of her muffler bolts somewhere in my yard. Made a mad dash to the hardware store for a new bolt and spacers. I over tightened the bolt a bit due to the spacer inside being slightly shorter than the other bolt, slightly denting the muffler. Got it unloaded at her house, pulled the starter and it lugged and chugged, finally dying. I took it back and figured to look at the last thing I did to the machine. I checked the muffler mounting bolts, all gaskets are in place and the choke arm is free. I reckoned it might be a partially sheared flywheel key that I finished off mowing my lawn. Replaced that, (it was not sheared, but starting to) Same problem, it starts, chugs and lugs along until I manually open the choke butterfly, and will sputter, eventually rev up, hunt around for speed for 15 seconds, and finally warms up and smooths out. I have adjusted the throttle arm to up the rpm from 2600 to 3250. I cleaned the carb again, this time replacing the valve seat, and new intake gasket and manifold o-ring, double checking with a fine wire that all passages are clear in the carb. The choke linkage and governor linkage operates freely with no snags or tension. I have now drained the oil and gas again, and have it nose down to assist draining any more oil that may in the top end, however none is really coming out the spark plug hole. I can't send it back to her with instructions to stick her fingers behind the airbox to jiggle the linkage around till it starts running right. I'm at a loss. Any ideas?
Yet again I have to say thank you for this very well done video. You do such a good job filming, explaining etc that anyone can learn from your instructions. I'd love to work in your shop 3 months for free just to learn from you. Thanks again.
Great Video but before working on any power equipment I always remove the spark plug boot just to be sure there are no accidents. Too many times I have seen people with injuries from there lawn and garden equipment.
Thank you for your in depth video and step by step instruction.,ihave fixed a rider lawnmower and a snow thrower that was waffling by drilling the removable jet.and a carb cleaning a push mower that wouldn't start. Thank you so much!! Oh I used a o18 micro drill the smallest in the kit!
Great video Donny !! .. another tip ..If time is not an issue for the diy-ers I usually just take it apart and let the metal parts soak overnight in varsol or paint thinner .. next day clean as a whistle. I know you`re in business and time is money, but I have more time than money ...lol
I just cleaned that carburetor, and saw the same jets in your great video. I bought a carb gasket, but the new one does not seem to have a duct in it....
Thank you so much. I'm having trouble with the bowl gasket leaking, but I see I may just have to fully remove the carburetor---it probably needs cleaning anyway---and hopefully will have better luck seating the gasket.
Hey dony its Nate I bought a Craftsman 25cc straight shaft weed eater yesterday and used it 2day it's starts and runs great but it has a high pitched whine noise when throttled up @ cutting head. It has a clutch also. It was made in august of 2013.
Great video the mower looks to be brand new to a point I thought i could see black paint over-spray on the spark plug indicating its still got the original plug from the Briggs & stratton factory.
Hey dony its Nate I bought a 25cc craftsman straight shaft weed eater yesterday & used it 2day it start n runs gr8 but when throttled up it has a high pitched whine @ cutting head. It has a clutch also.
Great detail Doc TU!.. just goes show ya you may think you have all the gas out on a new mower to store for winter or just plum forgot when the snow hits, it happens . best
To save a few minutes in the procedure, some viewers may plan to remove only the threaded nut beneath the carburetor bowl and the bowl, itself. However, on a dirty, dustry engine, dirt and debris are likely to fall into the bowl on removal. And after cleaning the bowl,, reinstallation of the bowl requires the bowl be aligned precisely to avoid dislodging more debris-- almost any speck of dirt can cause a problem, and may compromise the work completed. The best approach is hose off all the debris (from a completely cool engine) well before the carburetor operation, and to let the machine dry, first. Since cleaning the carburetor is done only occasionally, it may be worthwhile to use a car wash pressure spray wand for a more thorough cleaning of hard-to-reach areas. BTW, this is an excellent video-- well organized, with superbly lighted and focused close-up shots, and a clearly spoken narration. Wish all the videos had at least the production values of this one.
This video clip is the one I am looking for. Nice and easy to fix as a DIY. Just one quick question though, what if don't have the carburetor cleaner? Please give me options if any. Thanks.
I recommend having an ultrasonic cleaner. True you don't need to drop 3 figures on a large, heated one, but I use one for cleaning gun parts, paint guns, auto parts and much more.
You didn't mention, but, if the mower had been stored with left in tank and carb, should you flush the fuel tank and hose? Thanks for the great videos!!
Thanks for the reply! I decided to get the M12 -- couldn't pass up the $99 price at Home Depot, which included two batteries, a charger, and case! I think I lucked out!
Thanks for this video it helped me to rebuild my carburetor last year. I rebuilt this carb thinking it would help my surging problem, but i think it is my governor. Could do a video on how to adjust the governor on this type of engine. Since the throttle is already open which way do you turn the shaft to correctly set it. Thanks again for all your videos
You forgot to remove the gasket on the carb that seals the air filter housing to the carb. Also it seals for priming as you know. All the gaskets and seat, I take some Magic Lube and give a light coating. ML is a pure silicone super super tacky clear grease. Perfect for 0-rings and gaskets to keep them moist and non-sticking. Makes gaskets reusable and last a lot longer. Magic Lube can be found at your local swimming pool supply store. It's great on household plumbing o-rings and such. Makes your faucet handles turn real easy and water doesn't wash it away. Helps rejuvenate dry carb bowl gaskets.
The Quantum series is on the old side and especially when they have been unused for a couple of years or more,I consider the whole fuel system dirty. Remove and flush the tank. Replace fuel line. Replace the gasket between the filter cover and carburetor and most of the covers are warped and will not seal correctly for the primer to work. Replace it. Otherwise this is a perfectly splendid video. I have been snake bitten too many times from rotting fuel line and warped covers. Just do it all at once and be done with it and have a happy customer that will reccomend you every time.
Thank you, I have a running lawn mower again :) Not sure what the actually problem was (everything looked clear) but after cleaning it, three pulls and it was running again!
check spark, compression, make sure there is fuel to the engine, I usually spray quick start immediately after a rebuild to get it going quicker
I started mine as soon as I knew I could, then reassembled the rest after success.
You're the best
An excellent presentation by the mechanic who loves his job to helping others to solve their mechanical lawn mover problems. Thank you.

Thx for showing in detailed, how you performed this work. Kept my full attention thru out the whole video.
Oustanding video. Very methodical and thorough. Excellent.
Awesome video.... thanks for the advice. My snowblower works perfect now. It was the bull nose bolt, those little holes were plugged.
He's like the Mr. Rogers of small engine repair!
yes and make sure the gasket between air filter housing and carb is good
Excellent clear camera work. Thanks.

I keep watching videos you posted weekly. They are very helpful. I learned how to maintain even fix my tool properly.
Very well done. I’m doing the exact same thing but didn’t know about the float pin gasket. I hope my carburetor cleaner didn’t ruin it.
Excellent video, great camera work. So much more informative and "watchable" than these weekend warrior videographers who hold the camera in one hand and work with the other! I followed you video and it worked first time, Thanks bro.
Thank you for really great and clear breakdown of what to do. I will try and get mine going now.
Donyboy 73 you never disappoint [great video]I wish more videos on youtube were as detailed as yours [keep up the good work]
+Kevin Bolin thanks Kevin
Another great, detailed video Don! Thanks so much! I can watch these all day!
Wow!! This video tutorial was just what i needed to help me get my mower back on track! I had viewed several others. But, this one was geared for my briggs&stratton engine. Great video with clear instructions, thanks
Great job! Very detailed instructions.
thank you so much you saved me $60. Home Depot said they would clean it for that.
Manual choke works a lot better than the auto chock . Looks like a brand new mower . Thanks
That was the best detailed video I have ever seen!! Thanks Donny great job!!
YOU ARE THE BOMB! I feel like I could be a success now with my Briggs 6 HP tiller!

Used this vid, got my ranch king brush trimmer back up and going again. You’re awesome sir, thank you!!
I use the blue dove dish soap and Zep orange degreaser from home depot
Great Video but before working on any power equipment I always remove the spark plug boot just to be sure there are no accidents. Too many times I have seen people with injuries from there lawn and garden equipment.
yes it works better, this one retails over $300, but there are cheaper one on ebay. if you get one make sure to get the heated one
Using an old tooth brush is a great idea, thanks for the tip.
I paid $189 for the FUEL M12 with 3 batteries, one is an XC 4.0

thanks Jonathan
even tho i know this
i still watch your videos because they are nice to watch and the video has good quality
good job mate!
Great job! Took mine apart years ago but this was a good refresher. Thanks for posting.
Thank you for this video! I just clean the carb on my lawn mower. Could you please tell me the part number of the gasket kit for this carburetor?
I just cleaned that carburetor, and saw the same jets in your great video. I bought a carb gasket, but the new one does not seem to have a duct in it....
great. I just ordered the carb overhaul kit on Amazon for $9. Very useful video. Thanks!
Thank you so much. I'm having trouble with the bowl gasket leaking, but I see I may just have to fully remove the carburetor---it probably needs cleaning anyway---and hopefully will have better luck seating the gasket.
That mower is beautiful !
thanks man, greetings from Canada!
Excelente video y muy buena explicación. Las tomas de la cámara son perfectas para coger nota.
Saludos desde España🤗
gracias!
Another outstanding video. Always informative. Keep them coming.

Thanks for another great video. These are simular to tecumseh carbs.
it could, you should also replace the bowl and install kit 631021b

Thanks very much for sharing your skills via this video. I am going to see if you have one related to servicing the spark plug. Thank again!!
Came here from your earlier video. Thanks again for making these.
Professional technical video. Gained lot.
Thank you
I recommend having an ultrasonic cleaner. True you don't need to drop 3 figures on a large, heated one, but I use one for cleaning gun parts, paint guns, auto parts and much more.
Superb video! I have a similar mower that after 7 years will benefit from a good carb cleaning.
Thanks!
You didn't mention, but, if the mower had been stored with left in tank and carb, should you flush the fuel tank and hose?
Thanks for the great videos!!
Thx man!! So clear and to the point, I am really happy with you being on RUclips
ostaz007 thanks, make sure you are subscribed
Thank you, I have a running lawn mower again :)
Not sure what the actually problem was (everything looked clear)
but after cleaning it, three pulls and it was running again!
if it runs good then it can't be a big deal, however it's always better to have parts where they go
i been watching yours video and you are very good! well explained good voice etc. i wish you were at the corner of my street!😍
Great video - lots of good tips and detail!
Nice job, best one I've seen on here yet. Thanks for the tips and warnings about what not to do, as well. I had no idea carb cleaner was so dangerous.
Excellent video. Did not know you could spray carb cleaner on the float bowl, I thought it would slightly melt. Keep up the great vids.
Excellent. What if it doesn't start after.
